  1. From USA Today: UPDATE—McDonald’s Tainted Salads Have Now Sickened 395 People in 15 States
  2. I don’t think I’ve noticed any. But I could be wrong & I just haven’t seen them when I’ve been watching the channel.
  3. It’s actually expected to be a three week lag between filming & airing an episode this time. I think it was a little longer last time.
  4. Honestly, I’m glad it was shelved too. The original was my favorite show in Junior High & early High School (I think it was). I don’t do Amazon Prime Video (or Prime anything else), & as much as I loved the original I’m not sure I’d have joined Prime Video just to watch 2 guys other than Paul & David play them. And I loved the chemistry they had, back in the day, & that they’re apparently still besties all these years later (though I don’t know how much they actually manage to get together, except when they do the very occasional personal appearance, with the Striped Tomato, Antonio Fargas, or both, since Paul lives in California & David moved to England years ago—& I guess David’s only daughter lives there too). I was especially leery of watching a potential reboot because of the way I heard the characters were in the movie (I’ve never seen it & I’m still not sure I’m ever gonna watch it, but I have thought about it sometimes). The whole thing of Starsky being the serious 1 & Hutch being the goofball, in the movie, just feels wrong to me.
  5. Apparently 3 weeks ahead is the closest they can tape the show, put it through the postproduction process, & get it aired as scheduled (for what it’s worth, I think they film daytime dramas 6 weeks ahead & you’d think those would take less work to edit & get on the air than a nighttime show). I know that sounds weird for a half-hour sitcom, but I’m sure it’s accurate. I don’t remember what the specific scandal/crisis/corruption of the day was 3 weeks ago, but I think it’s safe to say it probably involved the government, specifically the Executive Branch, somehow. And that’s where I’ll leave that.
  6. According to Wikipedia, Anne Schedeen (the actress who played Kate, the mother of the family), is still acting. I thought I read/heard a few years ago that the actor who played the dad had died; according to Wikipedia, he’s still alive, but he hasn’t acted since 2005. He was treated for Lymphoma in 1995, & remains in remission to date. He was arrested for DUIs in 2000 & 2003. In 2017 (last year) his wife of 52 years, & the mother of his son & daughter, died. As of May of this year, he was reportedly living with a same-sex partner in Germany. The actor & actress who played the kids don’t act anymore. Benji Gregory, who played the son, enlisted in the Navy in 2003 & was honorably discharged in 2005. He was married in 2006. Andrea Elson, who played the daughter, was an actress & model until 1998, according to Wikipedia. As of 2008, they say she’s a yoga instructor.
  7. From WANE-TV.com: USDA Issues Alert About Salads, Wraps Due to Parasite Worry A public health alert has been issued about more than 2 dozen beef, pork, & poultry salad & wrap products as a precaution due to possible parasite contamination. The products, distributed by Indianapolis-based Caito Foods, may be contaminated with cyclospora, which causes intestinal illness. Caito Foods was notified by their lettuce supplier, Fresh Express, that the chopped romaine in some of the salads was being recalled. The products were sold by grocery stores including Trader Joe’s, Walgreens & Kroger. They have the establishment number “EST. 39985 or P-39985.” The USDA has posted a complete list online. Customers are urged to throw them away. NOTE: The linked list of recalled items is, unfortunately, in sort of small type. That wasn’t my decision. I hope you can read it. Depending on your reading device of choice, if needed, you might be able to click on it & get it to expand so you can read it.
  8. I saw Candice Bergen (Murphy) being interviewed on The Talk the other day. Not actually live, but in a clip CBS & the show put up on YouTube. She said this season of the show would be taped as close to air as possible—she said no later than 3 weeks ahead, probably—in order to remain current as far as national/world events were concerned.
  9. From TV Line: Timeless Lives! NBC Revives Cancelled Drama with ‘Two Part Finale’
  10. From ET Online: Brian Christopher Lawler, Former WWE Star, Dead at Age 46
  11. You asked where the comedies are? Murphy Brown actually was 1 in its original incarnation & it is again in its new version. If your cable/satellite provider carries a channel called AntennaTV, they air the now original version of Murphy Brown Monday-Friday nights at 11PM Eastern/10PM Central Time & late Saturday & Sunday afternoons at 5PM Eastern/4PM Central Time. Just consult your local listings/cable or satellite TV guide for the correct channel in your area. If you don’t have cable/satellite TV (you watch “over the air” TV) & AntennaTV airs in your market, it will be a digital subchannel on your tuner (1 of the channels on your digital tuner that starts with a local channel # followed by any number above 0). Take Two, if you weren’t aware, is currently airing, & has been since around June 21st. It’s on ABC Thursday nights at 10PM Eastern/9PM Central Time. I don’t watch it, but basically it’s the same premise as Castle; only with a gender swap as to which character is the cop & which is the “fish out of water” paired with them for research purposes. Eddie Cibrian plays the police detective; Rachel Bilson plays an actress who had a “spectacular” meltdown on TV, ended up in rehab, & is now trying to get her career back on track. She’s shadowing Eddie’s character researching for what she hopes will be the role that will get her acting career back on track. As for Magnum, P.I., it might hopefully surprise & stick around awhile. I know I’m looking forward to it. The guy behind it is Peter Lenkov, who’s also behind the very successful Hawaii Five-0 & MacGyver (no U between the G & Y) reboots—both of which I watch & love. I plan to watch the new show, & expect to love it just as much as the others just based on seeing the preview trailer. Lenkov’s “signature” in all 3 of the reboots is to gender swap a character (so far, all male characters) from the original version to the new version. Hawaii Five-0 had a female version of the Kono Kalākaua character, until Grace Park (who played her) left the show in a salary dispute between S7 & S8 (last season). MacGyver had the character Pete Thornton (played by actor Dana Elcar in the original), Mac’s boss at The Phoenix Foundation, gender swapped to Patricia Thornton, played by actress Sandrine Holt. But she only lasted until midseason of S1, at the most, with no explanation as to why she was replaced. The character was discovered to be a mole & she went on the run to elude prosecution. Her replacement was a totally new character, Matilda “Matty” Webber, played by Meredith Eaton. In the Magnum, P.I. reboot the character of Jonathan Quayle Higgins III—who was played by the late John Hillerman in the original—is now Juliet Higgins. She’s being played by Perdita Weeks. As for A Million Little Things, the part of 1 of the characters in the Pilot (I think she’s a wife, mom & lawyer) has been recast. That character is now being played by Grace Park.
  12. Colony got cancelled recently. The post is upthread. The upcoming 3rd(?) season will be its last.
  13. From TV Guide: AMC Announces Renewals of 3 Series AMC has renewed the following shows: Fear The Walking Dead for its 5th season Better Call Saul for its 5th season McMafia for its 2nd season
  14. If you weren’t aware, Talking Rain also puts out Sparkling ICE brand fruit flavored sparkling water, iced tea (with lemon & other flavors) & lemonade (original & other flavors). I’m in NE Indiana & we get it here. But sometimes 1 store will have a flavor/flavors another doesn’t. Amazon carries the L’Orange Perrier. I think in cans & bottles.
  15. Also Ruby & The Rockits, the 10-episode TV series which aired in July-September, 2009, on what was then the ABC Family Channel & was basically a Cassidy family project (& perhaps really loosely based on David’s relationship/lack of a relationship with his daughter Katie), is available at iTunes, Amazon & Google Play. As I said, it was basically a Cassidy family project (but sadly without Jack, thanks to his untimely, & too early, passing). For those who somehow haven’t heard of it, it starred David & his real-life half-brother Patrick as estranged brothers & former bandmates in The Rockits, who have to at least try to resolve their issues when David’s character’s newfound teenage daughter, Ruby (Alexa Vega, now known as Alexa PenaVega), comes into his life (of course with eventually discovered musical talent) &, as David wants to continue living the unencumbered rock star life (though he’s really just reliving his glory days performing what appears to be a regular gig at a local casino), he enlists Patrick’s character & his family to help him raise her, by letting her live with them & basically palming at least most of what should be David’s parental duties regarding her off on them & being more like a friend to Ruby than a parental figure (which I’m sure I remember David once saying about his relationship with Katie—she was raised by her mother & stepfather, & David was more like a friend, from their generation or close to it, that [or so he said] she could go to with stuff she didn’t wanna tell her mother & stepfather). The show was created & produced by David’s half-brother & Patrick’s brother Shaun Cassidy, himself a former teen idol pop star like David; David’s youngest half-brother & Shaun & Patrick’s youngest brother, Ryan, worked on the show in an unspecified capacity behind the scenes; & David & Patrick’s characters’ mother was played by David’s stepmother (& co-star on The Partridge Family, where she played his character’s mother) & Shaun, Patrick & Ryan’s mother, Shirley Jones. Had he still been alive, I’m betting there would’ve been some sort of role for Jack Cassidy in the show too.
  16. Lay’s introduces 8 new (but limited time availability) “Tastes of America” flavors, based on popular foods in 8 areas of the country. They will be available July 30-September 23. But... the chips will only be available in the region they’re designated as coming from. If you wanna try all 8 flavors, this article says you can get a variety pack with all of them from Lay’s (I think I either read or heard that all 8 flavors will also be available other places online, like Amazon, but don’t shoot the messenger if they’re not. OK?) The article also says some past flavors, it appears mostly in Lay’s Wavy Chips style, will be rereleased with the 8 new flavors. By the way, I didn’t try them personally (honestly, I’m not sure I’d try any of them—most, if not all, of the foods the flavors are meant to represent aren’t in this picky eater’s usual dietary preferences). A group of People magazine writers &/or other staffers tried them though. Their impressions of each of the 8 new flavors is the basis for the article linked above. So the post is still in the spirit of the thread title, in my opinion.
  17. In case anyone’s interested, this special is available on iTunes, Google Play & Amazon.com (scroll down to season 2, episode 4 on this page; I couldn’t get a separate listing for it).
  18. The first name of Frasier & Niles’ dad on the show is/was Martin Crane. You forgot to mention the regular female characters, Roz & Daphne. Roz was the producer of Frasier’s radio show; Daphne was Martin’s live-in Home Health Care Aide (due to an on the job injury—he was a cop who got shot & had to use a cane after—&, eventually, she was Martin’s daughter-in-law after Niles & Daphne finally admitted their long hidden feelings for each other.
  19. 20. I remember Jell-O 1-2-3, which probably makes me ancient. I think my mom actually got it & made it at least once; probably more than once. I don't remember what flavor(s) she got (the embedded commercial said there were 5), but I seem to remember thinking it wasn't that great the first time she made it, but I think I somehow got to try it again & I ended up liking it by the time it was discontinued, & wishing it hadn't been.
  21. From WGN-TV: These Foods Linked to Ongoing Outbreaks Might Make You Sick Recalls reported in this news story, & NOT previously mentioned in the thread are: Pasta Salad: Hy-Vee stores (based in Iowa) have recalled a pasta salad that might be linked to at least 20 people getting sick from salmonella. The 1-pound & 3-pound plastic containers of Spring Pasta Salad were sold in 8 states: Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska & South Dakota--where the salmonella illnesses were reported--& Illinois, Missouri, Kansas & Wisconsin. The product was produced between June 1 & July 13. The packages have expiration dates between June 22 & August 13. ****** Cut Melon: The US Food & Drug Administration is warning people in 23 states that cut melon & fruit salads containing it may be contaminated with salmonella. The outbreak has affected 60 people mostly in 5 Midwestern states, with about half of them hospitalized. Cut watermelon, honeydew & cantaloupe as well as fruit salads containing these melons have been recalled in Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin. The fruits were sold in stores such as Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens, Sprouts Farmers Market, Costco & Whole Foods/Amazon. ******* Swiss Rolls: Flowers Foods announced a recall of Swiss Rolls because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The ingredient whey powder was recalled for possible contamination. There have been no reports of illness from Swiss Rolls, according to the company. Swiss Rolls sold nationwide, under these brand names: Mrs. Freshley's, Food Lion, H-E-B, Baker's Treat, Market Square & Great Value, have been recalled. Captain John Derst's Old Fashioned Bread distributed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, & South Carolina have also been recalled, the company said. ****** Ritz Cracker Sandwiches: Mondelēz Global LLC announced a voluntary recall of certain Ritz Cracker Sandwiches & other Ritz Bits products because they contain whey powder that has been recalled for possible salmonella contamination. The products are available nationwide. The voluntary recall is a precaution, as no complaints of illness have been reported, the company said. The recalled product list includes Ritz Bits cheese cracker sandwiches & mixed cookie & cracker variety packs.
  22. The third hour of GMA has been given an official name, GMA Day; Co-Hosts have been named: Michael Strahan and Sara Haines. Sara will be leaving her current Co-Host job at The View, which she's had since 2016, for the new job. The new show premieres at 1PM Eastern/Noon Central & Pacific (the current timeslot of The Chew) on September 10th.
  23. From ABC News: Michael Strahan and Sara Haines to Co-Host ABC's GMA Day, Premiering September 10th at 1PM Eastern If it's not abundantly clear, this is the 3rd hour of GMA, which has been talked about for awhile & replaces The Chew on ABC's Daytime Schedule. Michael & Sara also work together on the Monday-Friday original version of GMA. Before joining Michael on the new show, Sara was (if I remember correctly) the "Pop News" reporter on the weekend edition of GMA (a role she also fills on the weekday show when Lara Spencer is off). Sara has also been a co-host on The View since 2016. She announced this morning that she will leave this job for the GMA Day job.
  24. From TV by the Numbers/Zap2It.com: The Man in the High Castle Gets Early Season 4 Renewal at Amazon
  25. We may have to agree to disagree on this. My American ears definitely think Ron Silver had at least traces of a "US regional" type accent when he spoke, though I will admit he was probably trying not to let it show too much so he would be able to play all different kinds of roles. Kind of like Alex O'Loughlin & Beulah Koale (a male, not a female, despite the name), who are both on Hawaii Five-0. Alex is Australian & Beulah is a New Zealander. Their characters are Americans (& former Navy SEALs, to boot). Admittedly, Alex's Australian accent has slipped out occasionally in an episode here or there (mostly in earlier seasons); but Beulah, who plays the new character of Junior Reigns, who just joined Five-0 this past season, sounds completely American (to me, anyway); I don't think I've heard his real accent slip out once in character. I've only heard his New Zealander accent in, like, video clips posted to his Social Media.
