  1. Didi Conn & Barry Pearl, who played Pink Lady Frenchy & T-Bird Doody in the film version, have been added to the cast. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/grease-live-team-promises-pay-856349
  2. I don't want them to cast Rebel Wilson. I love most Australian actors/actresses (& singers) who've worked/are working in American-based projects (like Rachel Griffiths, Alex O'Loughlin, & Olivia Newton-John, for example) but, for whatever reason, I cannot stand Rebel Wilson. If she's in Hairspray, I'll either have to pass or grin & bear it because I do wanna see it.
  3. I'm not sure you're accurate in saying the late Bruce Paltrow--Gwyneth's father--was an actor. I knew of him as being more of a producer, writer, & director (for shows like St. Elsewhere & The White Shadow, among others, & maybe some theatrical films). Her mother, however, is an actress, the very well-known Blythe Danner.
  4. Abbey's maiden name, according to the Wikipedia page for the character of Josiah (Jed) Bartlet, & also the show itself, is "Barrington". Her name is Abigail "Abbey" Barrington Bartlet. I don't believe we ever learned what Charlie's Mother's name was. But his sister's name is Deana (Deanna).
  5. Seeing as Mary's never really held a steady job in show canon, they didn't mention she had 1 now, & 1 of the things on Aunt Deb's "Bucket List" was "Make sure Mary & Joan are taken care of", I'm wondering if Mary's, as they politely say, "between jobs" right now (& maybe she & Joan got to Hawaii for Aunt Deb's visit by Steve or Aunt Deb paying for their tickets)--&/or Aunt Deb maybe didn't have a lotta faith in her ability to hold a job longterm, so she's gonna make sure they can survive when Mary's not working by transferring her assets to Mary (we know she provided for Mary & Joan, who seem most in need, but I would assume Steve got something from Aunt Deb as well, even though Deb has more of a "history" with Mary, having taken care of her when John sent Steve & Mary to the Mainland, for their safety, as kids after Doris "died"). Or maybe Mary really is getting her life together now, & isn't so much the sort of "substance abusing ne'er do well" the character started out as, & she does have a job but they forgot/didn't choose to write in a mention--just like they forgot/chose not to mention where Danny was in this ep (just saying--& I know Scott Caan's apparently contractually allowed 5 ep "absences" per season; I think this was at least #2, if not #3, for S6). *Steve* isn't even clear how Mary got to adopt Joan, considering how flaky she at least used to be. They never really explained that very well. I think allowing Mary to adopt was probably Lenkov's & the other writers' way of trying to allow Mary to "grow up" some & hopefully become more responsible, & stop mostly being the flaky person from earlier seasons. Do you consider 6 years a fairly large age gap? That's the difference in ages between Steve & Mary which was mentioned in an ep from a previous season. I remember the age gap, but I can't remember in which ep it was mentioned now. There's something about Taryn Manning's voice for me too. But I kinda think it helps with the perception Mary at least started out kinda flaky/was a substance abuser & I don't have a problem with her in the role--& she's not on the show that often anyway; especially not since she got the part as Pennsatucky in Orange is the New Black, & she's also still doing movie roles, & DJ gigs in nightclubs in Vegas & other cities, making music, & other things. I know what you mean about no Kono pregnancy (so far). But yeah, Adam's only been in Hālawa a month or less so it could still happen (presuming the characters had sex before he went to prison... which seems logical, including in real life for couples who know something like that's about to happen for 1 of them).
  6. You're right. The song, as you wrote, also has a/an Hawaiian title. I know Iz was Hawaiian; maybe he chose to also give it an English title to make it easier for people who were looking for it & didn't want to attempt to say, or write, (& butcher/misspell) the Hawaiian language version of the title (a valid reason, perhaps). I think they use the song over things like paddle outs & ash scattering scenes because it sounds appropriately sad for events like that, & it's in the Hawaiian language (at least the brief part they always seem to use, which includes the state motto phrase, is), which is appropriate for the setting of the show overall, & because at least a paddle out is a/an Hawaiian cultural thing. You're welcome for the help. By the way, there is a site, tunefind.com, that's supposed to list the songs in episodic TV (& maybe some other stuff). They have the show overall, & they had this ep listed already, but for some reason they didn't have the ash scattering scene with Hawaiʻi '78 among the songs from this ep. So I Googled the lyrics I always remember from the song (i ka pono o Hawaii) & found it that way.

  8. The song's been used in at least 1 other H50 ep, from a previous season. Maybe, but I'm not positive, over the scene where the ashes of Chin's wife, Malia, were scattered on the ocean after she died, OR the scene involving the "paddle out" for Kono's surfing mentor who was murdered in an S1 ep. It may also have been in other eps, but I'm not positive. I recognized it when I heard it, so I Googled some of the lyrics & watched part of a YouTube video that came up in the search results, to be sure it was correct, before responding. Anyway... Google says it's Hawai'i '78, from the album Facing Future by Israel "IZ" Kamakawiwoʻole.
  9. That's what I thought/was wondering too. Happily (at least so far) it looks like we were wrong.
  10. Somewhere back around the 3rd or 4th season (I think it was), he & CBS came to an agreement that he's allowed to do 5 episodes less per season than Alex O'Loughlin. This probably deals with Scott's noted preference for the faster-paced LA/Hollywood lifestyle than the more laid back atmosphere of Hawaii. Plus, at the beginning of filming for S5 (the 2nd day of filming, to be exact) Scott & his longtime partner, Kacy, became the parents of a now 18 month-old daughter, Josie James Caan. Josie & Kacy live in LA, though Kacy formerly worked in the Wardrobe Department for the show, in previous seasons. Scott's reduced schedule also allows him time to spend with them. Tonight was apparently 1 of the 5 eps he's allowed to sit out for this season. Sometimes Steve, or another character, explains why he's/Danny's not there; sometimes they don't. Tonight/this week they didn't happen to.
  11. He's also on the cover of Billboard (& probably the "celebrity" weeklies, like People, & a number of the other entertainment industry publications which use cover photos & have cover stories, like The Hollywood Reporter).
  12. I think this goes here, since I think this is planned more as a TV-movie than a stage version. If I'm wrong, Mods please move it to the Live Musicals thread. Thanks! Anyway... Debra Messing has been cast as Marjorie Houseman, Baby's mother, in ABC's upcoming remake of Dirty Dancing, starring Scream Queens' Abigail Breslin as Baby. http://www.ew.com/article/2016/01/14/debra-messing-dirty-dancing-remake
  13. Spanish-born actress Lita Baron has died at age 92, from complications of a broken hip. She was the ex-wife of actor Rory Calhoun & Ricky Ricardo (Desi Arnaz)'s Cuban dance partner in I Love Lucy. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/lita-baron-dead-actress-nightclub-856005
  14. Awhile back (unfortunately I'm not sure when; maybe after the first year they had 10 nominees), they changed it so the maximum number of movies in the Best Picture category was 10, but they were no longer required to nominate 10 if that many weren't worthy; they could nominate fewer. Or so I've heard.
  15. Unless I'm forgetting something else, Ann didn't have a grandson. She had a granddaughter, little Annie, from Julie's marriage to Max. So Annie can show up at the old homestead. Or Valerie Bertinelli, either as Barbara or as a totally different character.
  16. 1. Whether Ellie should've looked pregnant at her wedding or not probably depends on how far along she was supposed to have been when the pregnancy was discovered & how close the wedding was to that after Ellie & Vic told the Bartlets, & we don't know any of that; we just know that she told her parents she was getting married & pregnant simultaneously. I'm going with "not necessarily" on this. Also, during the ep where they're juggling the wedding planning with either some important meeting or something that unexpectedly came up, they discuss Ellie wearing a gown that has an "empire" waist--which I guess was either to account for, or help camouflage, her growing waistline (while the world obviously knew about her getting married, I'm less certain the fact she was already pregnant was made public at the same time), & they discuss omitting certain foods which aren't supposed to be good/healthy for pregnant women from the reception menu. 2. It can make sense that Kate had two failed marriages if she married, at least the first time, fairly young (I mean, she probably wasn't that young when she entered the Navy--& I forget if she was supposed to have gone to Annapolis or not). As was said, though, her marriages are really irrelevant. As for her haircut... The bangs style in her first season, as I also said in another thread, was supposed to help camouflage any weight gain in her face that might've shown on camera because she was pregnant with her first child while filming her first season. I wouldn't say her personality changed, if it did, as a reflection of her different hairstyle. Probably that's more likely as a reflection of new writers who saw Kate differently than the writers when she was introduced did. And I don't think she ever sported cleavage in the Sit Room. The only time might've been during Ellie's wedding, when Jed had to defuse some situation with China &/or Russia, I think it was. But that was a unique situation. And I think she & Jed worked out of the Oval Office then, instead of the Sit Room. 3. I don't think Will is a cad. I think he cared about Kate. And I think he's better than a 5. Maybe not a 10, but definitely higher than a 5. 4. Toby as the leaker was definitely surprising. But Richard Schiff wanted less screen time, so... Yes, I think he was probably covering for someone. I don't think it was CJ, though she looked guilty, to me, in a certain scene at the end of S6, I guess it was. I think it was probably his brother, David (not Dave)--who was in his own situation with the shuttle simultaneously with the shooting at Rosslyn--or, as someone else mentioned, he "fell on his sword" for Jed (although you couldn't tell it by Jed's behavior when he fired Toby). I don't think it was Toby's sister-in-law, the teenage daughter you mentioned--whom I don't even remember being mentioned. I really don't think it was his ex, Andi. She'd only know that stuff if she were on a NASA-related Congressional subcommittee, & I don't think we know what subcommittees she was on. 5. Well, Zoey & Charlie did seem to get back together in S7, so hopefully they were still together when the show ended. But we don't know for sure. There was speculation, back in the day, the wedding should've been theirs, instead of Ellie & Vic's, but that didn't work out because Dule Hill & Elisabeth Moss were also already doing the first seasons of their next shows--Psych & Mad Men, respectively--& were unavailable. But we also don't know that for sure either. Small thing... It would've been easier to read/answer the questions if there'd been a blank line after each 1.
  17. In the S5 premiere they were having a mandatory session, just the 2 of them, with a counselor at the beginning of the ep, about their relationship as work partners. Then, in the S5 ep where they were on the stakeout (aka the ep Daniel Dae Kim directed), they had a workbook of some kind they were supposed to do, while they were on the stakeout, as part of apparently further counseling they were undergoing connected to their relationship as work partners. And then there was the "Couples Counseling" retreat in this ep, which was actually meant for married couples but they somehow ended up registered for it, & the session leader (& I guess the HPD counselor or other counselor they were seeing) apparently agreed to sign off on their attending her retreat & count it towards the counseling they were supposed to be getting. The counselor actually mentioned that in the ep. Those are the 3 instances I remember of Steve & Danny in counseling connected to their work partners relationship that we've seen on the show. And the only instance that involved others besides the counselor was in this ep. It's been a recurring storyline for the characters since, literally, the beginning of S5.
  18. Entertainment Tonight has already weighed in with their dream cast: http://m.etonline.com/news/179983_dream_casting_nbc_hairspray_live_musical/ So has People magazine: http://www.people.com/article/hairspray-live-musical-nbc-dream-cast And... The Wall Street Journal: http://www.wsj.com/articles/BL-SEB-93091
  19. Thanks for the correction on Masur. I guess I didn't remember his role being large enough for a main title credit, though he was supposed to have been Ann's boyfriend when the show started. Plus they wrote out his character after, what, S2? So he wasn't around that long anyway. So I suppose my point should've been--if it didn't start that way--the Romano/Cooper family characters (except Grandma Romano), & Schneider are probably the characters I'd consider "legacy" enough to make an appearance in the reboot; especially since most of them were there for most, if not all, of the series. But the daughter characters are the only ones currently surviving from among that group.
  20. Nick Carter was arrested in a Florida bar, apparently after a bar fight. Details in the article linked in the Tweet linked below. https://twitter.com/eonline/status/687493106518913024
  21. As far as I know, this linked Tweet, from a NYC-based (mostly online) gossip writer, is accurate insofar as the Grammys are probably planning a tribute to Bowie this year (just as they did 1 for Whitney Houston when she tragically died right before 1 year's ceremonies, only probably "bigger" for Bowie as they have more time to plan his); I'm just not certain how many of the artists he mentions will actually end up participating. https://mobile.twitter.com/NaughtyNiceRob/status/686964442958053376?p=v
  22. Valerie's cooking show isn't a travel-type cooking show. She does it from her home kitchen, or a home kitchen set purporting to be her home kitchen, like Giada De Laurentiis & a lot of the other Food Network hosts.
  23. I'm aware of that. But I was concentrating on the original "core" main title cast, as I said; they're probably the only characters who might be important enough to bring into the new story. Of those 4 (Franklin, Phillips, Bertinelli, Harrington, Jr.), Phillips & Bertinelli are now the only 2 survivors. As for Masur, Wilson, & Fabray (who's actually, if I remember correctly, the aunt of Shelley Fabares--Nanette changed the last name spelling to look more "phonetic", while Shelley maintained the original spelling, again if I remember correctly), I remembered them, but forgot to mention them. As it is, I don't think Masur or Fabray were ever credited in the main titles--though Fabray might've been, eventually--& I was, as I said, trying to concentrate on the actors who were credited in the main titles & were the original "core" cast.
  24. Even if Jen/the family doesn't have Amazon Prime (a paid membership thing that includes free 2-day shipping on all orders, among other things... explanation for anyone who doesn't buy from them), if she bought 2 of those Chore Charts--which I suppose she might/would, having 2 kids--& just bought those, at $18 apiece she'd still have gotten free shipping on the order if that's all she bought & she didn't choose to upgrade the shipping speed. Amazon has free shipping on orders over $35, & 2 of those Chore Charts would've just made that threshold, at $36 total.
  25. Bill & Jen "Live Tweet" on Twitter during the eps (basically, they watch the eps like everyone else, & comment on their Twitters about various things that are in the eps as they air). Bill took responsibility for Zoey's pixie cut during the show last night in the linked Tweet. He also said he's been getting comments (he used a different, but similar in meaning, phrase I don't remember now) on the cut. https://mobile.twitter.com/ReallyBillKlein/status/687103985967169536?p=v
