It seems like student loans would make the most sense. I know it's generally not a great idea to weigh yourself down in debt, but if he has a plan and is going to go for a major that is in demand and leads to a good paying job, a student loan may be worth it.

Grey's Anatomy in the Media: Incident Reporting
txhorns79 replied to stopthestatic's topic in Grey's Anatomy
Can't say that is too surprising. They've done very little with the character this season, and the longer they stay on the show, the more expensive an actor gets. -
Yes! The actor looked like he was closing in on 50. The acting was fine, but the casting person really should have tried a little harder to find someone who looked age appropriate. It was amusing watching Olivia squirm and try to come up with a justification for pursuing the cases when confronted by Sykes. And Sykes was essentially right. Olivia was doing it for herself, not because she cared about getting justice for anyone.

I think at least the New York County DA refrains from prosecuting because they really are busy doing other things (they oversee hundreds of attorneys and a huge office), and their presence at the prosecutor table would immediately turn a case into a spectacle. The handling of the perp's former victim did make things feel like a SVU episode. I also thought we might get a "Is this because I'm a lesbian?" moment when Baxter and Nolan were arguing alone in Baxter's office, as it seemed like passions were running high and they might just kiss.

Yeah, the ones they showed weren't exactly hard hitting. I did wonder why the introduction for DJ was so mean spirited. I did like Ava and Deborah showing some growth, with Ava insisting on some boundaries and Deborah accepting them for the most part. I really did love Deborah's workaround of having Josefina read off insults to Ava. I also really liked the NA meeting. It gave you a good idea of how Deborah's mind works. Something just clicks inside her head when she hears applause, and her five year chip speech to DJ suddenly morphs into a stand up act. DJ was right that it is like an addiction for Deborah.

I was very confused by the episode. Can an ambulance, even a private one, really just drop off a person with a serious injury at a fire station instead of a hospital for care at the patient's request? I would think all parties would be setting themselves up for a serious lawsuit if something went wrong. And so Ben isn't actually taking pain killers, just testosterone? And I can't even with Carina throwing a tantrum and flouncing out of her arbitration. It shouldn't effect the claim, but it makes it look like she doesn't treat the process seriously. On a positive note, I did think the actress who played Maya did a good job at telegraphing how big a mistake she instantly realized she was making when she initially invited her brother to come live with her. Finally, did those people douse the interior of their car with gasoline? Even presuming the embers from the fire did hit the fireworks they had in the trunk, I'm not sure it would cause the entire car to explode within seconds.

Seriously. In the course of what, two minutes, she had four or five shots? Boring episode. Winston really serves no purpose at that hospital now that Maggie is gone. And I know the show has a history of the doctors yelling at patients or their visitors like the true unprofessionals they are, but Adams was way over the top yelling at those people.

I agree. Though it sounds like Ben has done some research because he was saying the magazine appeared to have a decent amount of loyal subscribers. I just hope it's not another bike shop. I liked it. I think Becky's in that phase where she has a large amount of knowledge through her schooling, but doesn't have the training or experience to be able to use that knowledge in a fruitful way. She's also an addict herself, so she has trouble separating herself from women she sees as being in a similar position that she was in. Whoever was supervising her at the facility should have been more on top of that, because Becky's behavior was out of control.

Three celebrity cameos in one season is too much. Having said that, I appreciated that Hart looked like he just woke up from a deep sleep before he did his filming. I was also curious how old Janine is supposed to be? Kevin Hart is only ten years older than Quinta Brunson. I was also a little surprised Janine hasn't tried to find her father through one of those DNA kits you can send it to see if you match anyone.

You aren't missing anything. I wasn't sure why everyone acted like Ben was doing some big favor for Dan, given Dan would be entitled to his share given his ownership interest.

Yeah, if a review indicated to you that you wouldn't have needed to see the first season to watch this season, then I can see how confusing for you the last episode was. Everything you described were events from the first season. The twist was that that Dawn and Edmund's birth mother was the older daughter from the first season of the show. The minstrel guy tormented the father during the first season. I thought I remembered the father defeating him, but I guess he came back once again as some kind of representation of intergenerational trauma, maybe?

Yes. That she was interfering in the doctor's treatment plan was just gross. I get tired quickly when Catherine swans in acting like she is Queen of the hospital. I get that she owns the place, but it gets old.

Rivers did have a late night show on Fox when it was a new broadcast network. The ratings were not good, and she was fired after a season. Her hosting that show was what destroyed her relationship with Johnny Carson. To me, it makes sense that Deborah would still care deeply about that kind of opportunity, given her history. I don't know if she would realistically still be considered for that job, even if she was having a big moment, but Jean Smart really sells Deborah's ambition.

I'll ask the obvious question: Why is the Mayor of Seattle making decisions about whether to fire individual firefighters? I get Hughes embarrassed him, but I would think disciplinary decisions about a firefighter would be handled by the department.

That was mostly a boring filler episode. I wonder what is going on medically with the Chief this time?

Ava and Deborah really do have magnificent chemistry, even if the girlfriend was totally right about how toxic the relationship got. And Jimmy's mother is Deidre Hall? So random, but funny. I presume we'll see her at some point during the season then.

I thought Inez's school pulled out of the librarian program. Is she still working at Abbott? I don't know what it is about this season of the show, but I really haven't loved it. I'm tired of Gregory and Janine circling a relationship. I also feel like the main characters are kind of losing their human side to just being a bunch of eccentric weirdos who crack one liners and cater to whatever character beat the network has told the writers to play up. It's like the Urkel-ization of the show.

I had seen the first season of this show, and while it was not good, it had some interesting ideas, and decent performances. This season just got too campy and weird for me, along with feeling very padded. It was too: Nightmare on Elm Street meets Raggedy Ann and Andy to be taken seriously. I also get that the character of Edmund was already supposed to be very disturbed when we met him, but I felt like the actor needed to be told to dial things back a bit. The connection back to the first season felt unnecessary, and now I realize the whole setting in 1991 around the time of Rodney King was more a way to make the connection back to the first season work. And honestly, the whole six months later, happy family scene at the end was kind of ridiculous. Even if Dawn was cleared of murdering that kid, I would think she'd still have a lot of people suspecting that the cops covered for her and she'd be living under constant suspicion. And that doesn't even get into the trauma of finding out about her twin, the murder he committed, the murders he then committed as a vengeful ghost to get her attention, her son being put in jeopardy and her own adoptive mother's extremely violent and horrifying death. On the positive side, I did think Deborah Ayorinde did a good job with what she was given. Pam Grier deserved better than having her head chopped off.

I think she said something similar to this last season. She made a comment about not wanting to visit Central Park because it was wall to wall ghosts and it was too much for her.
