  1. With the way they set up a social classes Gilead actually did a good (good as in terrible) job of making it so that no matter how bad your life is (especially if you are a woman) there is always a whole group of people way worse off that you can look down on and be thankful you are not part of. Like if you are a commanders wife it sucks but at least you are not a Martha. Hell if you are a handmaid at least you are not working in the colonies. And even if you are there at least you are alive. They reinforce that whole thing with the extremely different uniforms for women and it probably cuts down on a lot of the legitimate complaints. Even if there is no way to move up in the ranks.
  2. Which was the reason why his therapist dropped him as a client. Because she realized that he wasn't going to therapy in order to become a better person, he was doing it in order to feel better about the terrible person he was.
  3. Are there preferably insults that someone like Johnny would use that would be in character? And even if it is the other kids using it, I am pretty sure they picked that up from him, since with his personality he would be a huge influence on his students.
  4. Even one who is kind of repentant but still very much stuck in his ways. It would absolutely be Johnny's style to casually throw around gay insults, even today. It would be weirdly out of character for that guy with that mindset not to be using that type of insult, the same way it would be weird for him not to call guys girls as an insult.
  5. Because she isn't a legal resident of Canada? The same with any staff Gilead tries to send up to work with her. Just because Canada is a free country doesn't mean people from other countries can show up and say they are going to start working.
  6. Yeah she isn't going to be meeting with politicians and doing negotiating. She is going to be doing meet and greet sessions with those candle people, and maybe things like morning news shows and AM radio talk shows where she will get super softball questions. Although I am not sure what happens when Canada just decides not to let her staff into the country.
  7. I definitely want to see that guy, because you know it's not wanna be tough guy losers like Fred or Putnam making up these sort of things. Just look at their fake ass military uniforms.
  8. I can see that. John Stamos isn't that great an actor but I feel like he would attract the same type of viewers that Patrick Dempsey would.
  9. I don't think he would either. I mean in the first movie when Miyagi took Daniel to the Cobra Kai dojo the bet he made with Kreese was that if Daniel won the tournament, Johnny and his friends had to leave Daniel alone. It wasn't that CK had to be shut down even though Miyagi knew the type of karate Kreese was teaching. The only group I am aware of that Miyagi was ever interested in shutting down was the Nazi's and I am not sure if he volunteered or if he was drafted.
  10. I hear Bean from Disenchantment, but it is basically the same issue. That was harder to get around than the more modern dialogue and music. I mean it's not like they were listening to Barracuda, I was the same way I was watching this show in a screen that way way clearer and had more colours than anything available in the 1940's. Still a pretty great show, though although I have only seen the movie once and that was just a year or two ago.
  11. The whole blimp thing was weird. Like I have never been in a blimp before but would it really crash if one of the engines went out. It was still full of helium right so wouldn't it keep floating? Also why was Athena working by herself on probably what was the biggest medical emergency in that whole stadium? For that matter what happens when she advances to the part of med school where you have to start doing hospital shifts?
  12. Which was also weird, if she was going to be a fake ambassador with a staff and security and an office, why not send those people with her and then set her up in a hotel or something, or wait until arrangements can be made.
  13. Just them talking about all the way the kid sucks would have made it a top level video. But add to that Beavis doing his stand up comedy bits and it is possibly one of my favourite videos ever. I mean it is no Damnit Pantera get your dad a beer but it is still pretty great.
  14. I imagine that Gilead doesn't do a lot of PR so all they probably know is they follow the rules of the bible. Any stories that make Gilead look bad can just be written off as fake news from its enemies or bitter ex-handmaids who they feel deserved what they got. They all see themselves basically living the life of Mrs. Putnam, not Janine.
  15. That might have been my favourite one. Them watching that tattoo show and trashing MTV was hilarious, as was the shark video and Butt-Head's made up shark facts. But the video with that kid was hilarious "he's listening to Mozart for brain development". I don't think I have laughed at anything this season as hard as that. The stories were pretty good to especially time travel. Plus we saw Cornholio (although I hope we get a real. Cornholio episode).
  16. The more I think about it the less sense it makes. She asked for a budget but how would that work? Does Gilead even have a currency? I doubt there is any kind of standard exchange rate between milk coupons and Canadian dollars. And even if they still have bank vaults full of US dollars, or I guess gold, are they going to by flying her money deliveries every month, because if the rest of the world wants to isolate Gilead it's not hard to cut off their banking system (like they did with Russia) It's kind of a small thing that will probably never get explained but it's just another weird annoying thing.
  17. I am pretty sure they are like pre-Gilead Serena, they are pro fascism because they assume that if a fascist regime comes in they will be on the top level. And all the other people that they hate will be below them where they belong (their likely feelings, not mine).
  18. That is the one part of this whole thing that kind of maybe makes sense to me. Just because commanders in Gilead think so lowly of women that they probably think, how could she be smart enough to come up with a plan to get her husband to Canada, turn him in and make a deal for herself. And if she did well then that is obviously Fred's fault, since he was clearly such a shitty man of the house that he couldn't keep his handmaid nor his wife in line. Either that or it was Fred's idea that just sort of backfired in him, because again he was the man so he was supposed to be in charge.
  19. I am also wondering if she gives birth in Toronto is the baby a Canadian citizen? Would baby have dual citizenship if Canada doesn't recognize Gilead as a country?
  20. The stuff with Serena makes no sense. If she was free enough that she could decide on her own that she was going to be staying in Gilead why was she even in custody in Canada. And then the reverse, if she is now a Gilead global ambassador, why was there talk about taking her back to the detention centre? Not to mention people can't just show up in Canada and say they are ambassadors and get to stay. Especially if you are the ambassador from some bullshit country that no one actually recognizes. Also on a much more minor note, why was Nick talking to June on a landline? You would think someone who used to be involved with surveillance would have some concerns about people listening in on his calls.
  21. On the other hand Serena's mom is somehow single (I assume that her husband/Serena's dad died), but she somehow still has a ton of freedom and a comparable level of status to a Commander's wife. So if they didn't expect her to get married right away maybe there is a chance for Serena, if they blame the crimes on Fred.
  22. The flight that saved all those kids should have made June a celebrity in Canada the leftover US. I can see tons of people wanting to give her, and by extension Luke/Moira money, either for appearances, or just to help take care of her daughter. Imagine what a Like/June go fund me page would look like?
  23. Watched it today, and while I am sure other thoughts will come to me, my big take away is I am super annoyed that cancer is still a thing in the MCU. They figured out flying cars in the 40's, they have Pym particles and interstellar travel and Tony cracked time travel in an evening. But somehow chemotherapy is still the best option. It makes all the super geniuses of the MCU look like assholes. Also why didn't Thor just make a wish for Jane not to have cancer? Or did only the first person through the door get to make a space god wish?
  24. That was so weird. Especially since it is not like Fred was the big boss of Gilead he was one of dozens (hundreds?) of commanders. Which is one other weird thing about this show, if every important dude is a commander, who is actually in command?
  25. Finally got around to watching it tonight and I really liked it. It was slow to get going, although I was also distracted by my kids a bunch so that didn't help. But from the bear attack on it was awesome and I was super focused. I have only ever seen the Arnold Predator (once when I was a kid in the 80's probably shortly after it came out on video, then maybe once in the late 90's in university). I liked that too. If they had made her the biggest badass lady Comanche warrior right from the start it wouldn't have been nearly as interesting. But they built up the story and she learned and got better, as the predator got beat up and weaker. But if she had tried to fight the predator at any other point before the end, it would have killed her probably quickly.
