  1. This is really a reach. A & E and the set designers have done their homework. Hyperion Heights is clearly fictional Fremont and Eddy's description of HH does fit the actual neighborhood. If they had wanted "inner city", they would have modeled HH on a different existing neighborhood. So far we have not seen any slums. Fremont is a very diverse neighborhood that was once working class, then attracted artists and hippies (and their wall art) and now is becoming gentrified with the arrival of high-tech companies and upwardly mobile professionals.
  2. David Goodman is an executive producer but not a show runner. I doubt he was a last minute replacement since he also did the press interviews with Adam and Eddy.
  3. Masterpiece just airs shows that were produced for commercial networks in Britain and reflect popular taste for innocuous dramas over there. Grantchester is produced and airs on ITV. I wouldn't expect the quality to be any better than what one might see on the commercial networks in the U.S. The supposed cachet of shows under the Masterpiece umbrella is that they are exclusive content because American networks don't air foreign shows.
  4. Right? You can literally write sci fi anywhere. The girlfriend is an unwanted distraction because if she is in the picture Liam will not be 100% focused on the work like he needs to be. A young guy in love will want to spend time with his girlfriend every day, preferably in bed, and will be thinking about her when they are apart. They don't have time for that. They have a very limited amount of time to solve a hugely important problem. If they are successful there will be plenty of time for young love to bloom. If they are not successful it won't matter.
  5. After the latest humiliation, Peggy just wants Arnold out of her life. It's personal for her, not political. Working with Culper is just a means to an end. The way she touched her stomach suggested she was thinking that she and her child would be better off if she were a widow.
  6. Emilie didn't want to sing so they didn't force her to. She presumably knew when she signed on in season two that Belle was a supporting character whose purpose was to advance Rumple's story. Emilie had a similar role on Lost and sat out all of season 5 back then. It would appear she doesn't mind receiving a steady paycheck without having to do much for it.
  7. At this point the only way I can see for them to reconcile evil, deranged Simcoe with the historical figure is for Abe and Hewlett kill Simcoe, Hewlett assumes his identity, hightails it to Canada where he goes on to do great things and become the national hero we know. That would be a neat twist.
  8. Jane just said "too expensive", not that it was to accommodate a smaller budget. Reworking scenes to reduce costs is something every show does and this show has been doing that all along. I recall seeing a behind the scenes segment back in season 3 or 4 in which Helga Ungurait explained that when a script is finished she sits down with other senior-level people involved in production to go through the script page by page and cost out every scene. She gave some examples of a scene might call for two CGI dragons and they cut it down to one dragon, or they move a scene from outdoors to Granny's diner to eliminate expensive location shooting.
  9. VM has already stated in an interview that she won't be coming back. She was also a recurring guest star, not a series regular.
  10. Well, in Episode VII of Star Wars we learn that Han and Leia eventually split up and are estranged so no happily ever after for them.
  11. Yeah, the Fremont Troll is a well-known landmark and tourist attraction that's been around for ages. It's more likely it's just a shout-out and visual cue that the action takes place in the Fremont neighborhood of Seattle.
  12. I've seen all of season 3 and while I agree it's better than season 2, I've come to the conclusion that Broadchurch should have been one and done.
  13. In some article it was said that since Hook and Rumple are hundreds of years old their flashbacks can go back far into the past. The title A Pirate's Life is a nod to Pirates of the Caribbean and suggests a swashbuckling adventure rather than a romantic story.
  14. Filming is scheduled for Tuesday at the house used for Regina's home so I imagine Lana will be there. Robert Carlyle was still in Glasgow yesterday. Eddy mentioned in a post-finale interview about the future of the show that it's normal for young people to leave home and strike off on their own. My speculation is that Jennifer Morrison is needed for a short goodbye scene with young adult Henry and Emma as he leaves Storybrook to start his own life. Henry is the main character of the show now. An important part of setting up the season would be to show how it came pass that he left Storybrook. I thought it was pretty clear that ABC had Jennifer Morrison under contract for the premier episode. Emma's story is done so I doubt there will be any more episodes that focus on her.
  15. This is a show about fairy tale characters and magic and all, it's not a stretch that the memory loss was caused by a curse, plus we already know from interviews that there is a new curse.
  16. Well, it would appear that having the star of the show also in the role of executive producer with script and casting approval is turning out to be not such a great idea. I suppose Costanzo's main qualification for getting the job is that he is Canadian. Hopefully he is better than some of the other local talent they've had on the show.
  17. Well, yes that, too. As I posted in the show forum, this is the James Spader show. Without him they don't have a show. Without MB they could carry on quite well and would probably have a better show.
  18. Live+same day ratings alone are not the whole measure of a show's success. From a Deadline article appearing last month: It would appear the show is doing fine focusing their promotion on Spader. I don't think this is an issue of sexism in Hollywood, but more an issue of Megan Boone is not very good at her job and not very well liked by viewers and that is why the network is not promoting her.
  19. Yep. It's a business. The networks have market research departments that gather data about which characters and story lines viewers prefer and all kinds of other things. Promos are supposed to create buzz and entice viewers to watch the show. They don't have to be balanced with equal time for all cast members. It makes little sense to feature unpopular characters in the promos. Megan Boone may have been hired for a leading role but she demonstrated fairly quickly that she was not up to the task. The show adjusted and made her character a plot device for stories that featured other characters. This past season was a good example of that. Liz was the plot device that drove the main story arc, but Mr Kaplan was the main character of that story, not Liz. And I would say Susan Blommaert functioned as the female lead this season along side James Spader, even though she was a recurring guest star.
  20. The show is a business. If NBC's market research shows that Megan Boone does not draw in viewers or is not very well liked or viewers just don't care about her character then it doesn't make business sense to feature her in promos that are supposed get viewers interested in tuning this season. Posting passive-aggressive responses to promo tweets is probably not an effective way of getting the network to promote her character more. It suggests to me that something is going on BTS. Maybe her role is being reduced in season 5 or something. In MB's case, I would not automatically assume the lack of promotion is about Hollywood sexism and not about her being a mediocre actress who viewers don't enjoy. MB may have been hired to be the female lead, however, shows change over the years and sometimes lead actors drop back into supporting roles. I've always thought of Liz as the main plot device, not the main character.
  21. Does Megan Boone really not know that this is the James Spader show? Without him they don't have a show. Without her they'd have a better show.
  22. The comments here are probably not represenative of all viewers. The main character is POTUS so it can't really be a spy show because catching conspirators is not something the president would personally be involved in. The show is called Designated Survivor and has a big name actor in the title role. The show needs to be about him. I was expecting a show that focuses on the difficulties of a mild-mannered, idealistic political appointee who is suddenly thrust into the position of being the most powerful man in the world. The conspiracy story line should have been wrapped up in about 5 or 6 episodes. It dragged on for way too long and showed agent Wells to be a bumbling idiot. The loose cannon who has to do everything on her own way, causing a lot of unnecessary problems before finally solving the case, is a tired cliche. If they must continue with the conspiracy story I would rather see Forstell leading a team of agents doing solid investigative work. The show doesn't need to be balanced and present both sides of issues. I am very much in favor of the show shaming and bashing the current administration whenever it can, but it needs to do it with a lot more finesse. What we have seen so far is clumsy and heavy-handed. They need to smarten it up.
  23. The first thing that comes to mind with red thread is Ariadne. Maybe they are stuck in a labyrinth of sorts and the epic quest is to find a way out. Or Ariadne is Lucy's mother with Henry in the heroic Theseus role.
  24. Virginia Madsen and Malik Yoba were recurring guest stars, not regular cast members. While it's a shame they are gone, I wouldn't expect them to be carried over to a new season. I think the show needs to dump Maggie Q. Her character is useless and this show doesn't need an action star who is only a passable actor. It needs to focus on being a political drama with bite and get rid of the half-assed action story line.
