  1. One of my fave couples of all time, is Dmitry and Mya so I'd love to have Dmitry back. I have been loving Oti and Danny from Strictly. Here is there Paso, it's amazing. Male Pros: Val, Dmitry, Alan, Mark, Benji Swimmer (he would never in a million years but it'd be interesting to see him on screen, 10 years post SYTYCD) and the one newbie from Strictly or SYTYCD to shake things up. If Derek is gone for good you have to offer up some new exciting prospects. Female Pros: Never been fan of any of Julianne's partnerships but it'd be fun to see the dynamics change in the female pros if Julianna competed for a season, all the ladies would have to step up their game for sure. So Julianne, Anna T, Lindsay, Chelsie Hightower, Sharna, and Oti.
  2. Ummm all the YES to Debbie Allen and now that you bring it up I'm that's something that's never come up. Or even Tony Basil who's still an incredible dancer from videos I've seen. And the opening number could be this really awesome non-cheesy (well a little bit of cheese) 80's dance. I'd eat that up.
  3. I have been living with my roommate going on 3 years now and have pretty much gotten her into watching DWTS. This is the first time she's actually cried during a dance. So good job Val and Laurie. I didn't cry but I thought it was one of Val's best dances of all time and the song is perfect for Laurie's spirit. On a more critical note, anyone else think that Jenna completely out danced James? I was watching her the entire time... which I guess is kind of the point for ballroom but I feel like the choreo and performance was completely geared towards Jenna and not James which is the first time I've ever felt that way about his routine.
  4. Why? because she did something that literally every other character on the show did to her on multiple occasions? Hell once Damon was back from the Upside Down or whatever you call it, it took episodes for any of them to get her back. That's ridiculous that Bonnie doesn't get the same leeway that other characters get to selfish decisions...
  5. I'm totally here for a James and Calvin bromance. They have a great chemistry together and should do Dance Center together every now and then in future seasons when they need time slots for the results show. I may be in the minority for really liking the future dance. I'm a sucker for Dystopian though so... I may be biased. However, I'm a big Outlander fan so... I could have gone with either. However I will say I was more interested to see the dynamics between all the pros in the future dance than what was going on with the celebs lol. Too many "cooks in the kitchen" potential there that could have been interesting to see. I must have missed Sasha speaking Russian, I'll re-view to see that. Happy that Calvin and James are growing! I'm all for a Laurie-Calvin-James finale. Oh yea, shoutout to the best 70's Samba that's been on this show (not forgotten)
  6. I was just about to say that by far my favorite seasons with Maks were the ines with Laila Ali and Mel B. Even though she wasn't a fan favorite, I also liked him with Brandy. I honestly Maks' beast seasons are ones where he had a solid friendship with his partner. With the exception of Kirstie Ally, I found her SO annoying lol.
  7. In response to the consensus of Jana and Gleb's routine, I was actually more uncomfortable by the bed section than i was the shower section. I think if the shower section was simply just water/rain rather than the imagery of the shower, it would have been 1000x more effective. I think honestly this is just Gleb's aesthetic for better or worse. Also count me as someone who believes that if Artem was Jana's partner, we'd be given the sexy without the undercurrent of skeaviness. I think Artem knows how to toe that line a bit more gracefully.
  8. Quick note unrelated to this regarding Alfonso vs. James: I think we all had an idea of how Alfonso was as a dancer before the show. Whether it be the "Carlton" or his Pepsi commercials back in the way back day. Although Alfonso is a fantastic dancer, he never really stopped dancing like Alfonso. Val's choreo being generic is an interesting point and honestly I think you might be on to something and that's coming from a long time Val fan. I remember really liking Val during his season w/ Zendaya because I think she brought out a new/different engergy then what he had previously brought w/ partners like Kelly M. Plus, since Zendaya was already dancer, she brought an interesting foundation for Val to build on that definitely influenced his choreo, for example their Beyonce/Samba routine. Since Laurie has a great personality, great work ethic, great musicality, etc Val's choreo has been good for her, but not particularly memorable. Honestly I think he should have a convo w/ Mark about how to jazz it up for a youngster like Laurie.
  9. While I think Mark and Laurie would have been a great pair, his imagination and her talent could have went to interesting places. However I will say I was getting a little tired of Mark always getting younger partners, I feel like Mark's last partner that was around his age was Christina Milian, who I think would have went further if her personality was a little bit more ... dynamic. This also goes to say I'm just as tired of seeing Artem always getting the older contestants. I'm actually just remembering Mark's former partner Paige but I think she could have been great with Artem as well. Basically I always thought Artem was pretty great but he's never been given a partner where he didn't have to hold himself back.
  10. I loved the opening number! Was taken aback by the song choice at first but it was very pretty and a change from the norm. Even though I will say it was a little weird to see Val and Whitney together during the opening. I don't know what it is, it could be just that I'm not used to seeing them dance together but I wasn't feeling it, I don't think they have good dance chemistry together. on that note... it was not the Chmerkovsky brothers' week huh? Definitely got the mean teacher edits this week. Even though I have to say Erin is right, we've all seen Maks way worse than what he was during the dress rehearsal. Also, it's interesting how much different Laurie's edit is, in my opinion of course, than other below 18 contestants in the last, especially Val's old partner Zendaya. I remember being reminded on a weekly basis how young she was and thus couldn't look, dance, or dress a certain kind of way and I feel like we barely hear that stuff about Laurie. Purely an observation, just think it's different than how maybe Sadie, Zendaya, etc. were edited.
  11. Derek's performance was one of the most self-serving things I've ever seen. If Valand Maks got a performance last week and Derek got one this week, I hope other pros will get the same opportunity...
  12. I'm curious that the people who find this dance vulgar, haven't found Val and Kelly M's underwear dance vulgar, or Gleb and Jenna's boob grab/several innuendos during their Jive vulgar. Both dances had costuming or choreography that could be deemed as unnecessarily "sexy." Disclaimer: This is pure curiosity/devil's advocate. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone really.
  13. Not for nothing but I feel like A LOT of this should be going in the Ryan Lochte message board... just saying lol.
  14. Hmmmm, I don't know if I'd go as far to say that she's acting like she's too good for the show, she has seemed to be nothing but gracious. Saying something isn't personally her style isn't acting like she's too good. Plus... she answered the question that Erin asked her lol.
  15. Quick question: is there no more FaceBook voting? I don't see it as an option on the DWTS page.
  16. Vanilla Ice has definitely been able to reinvent himself through reality tv. I haven't watched any of his home improvement shows but I've always heard good things about it. I did watch The Surreal Life back in the day when he was on w/ the likes of Ron Jeremy and Tammy Faye Baker so it was a bizarre show to say the least but really paved the way of celebrity reality TV. He had a fair amount of anger issues on that show so I'm glad to see he seems to have moved past that. In terms of his foundation of being famous, I'd definitely put him in the rapper category. I mean... him and MC Hammer, no matter how corny they were both thought to be after their hit singles, really had a big part in making hip hop mainstream and accessible. Not just the rapping aspect of hip hop, they also made hip hop dance more mainstream as well. Also, since sampling music was/is so big in hip hop music, I'm sure his case with the "Under Pressure" sample to make "Ice Ice Baby" set a legal precedent in the music industry for how sampling could be done. I'm sure that wasn't his attention as that, on top of his perceived corniness, was pretty much the death of his career but I'd venture to say that just because he has a hugely successful rapper, doesn't make him any less of a rapper.
  17. Pretty sure both Donny and Jennifer were like what... 50-52 at the time of their season... that's not the same as 64-65.
  18. An older person has never won the show. They may make it to a finale but be honest, they can BARELY dance and they get there on nostalgia/likability, and in comparison to the other finalist, the older contestant never really stood a chance of actually winning. Marilu has dance training, but maybe she needs that to actually have a fighting chance to win. Marilu is no spring chicken but it'd be nice to see an older person on the show who can actually dance and is not a joke.
  19. Cast picture I saw on tumblr today. If the extra dancers are apart of the troupe then I am so here for the diversity!!!!
  20. Quick question, if anyone out there has knowledge about this. Does Mandy Moore have an exclusivity contract with DWTS? Why is she like... the choreographer in residence for the show? I'd love to see the pros/cast do opening or the big time numbers with a different perspective. Many of their pros are Emmy nominated (and I'm not just talking about Derek) plus you know... there's a lot of choreographers out there.
  21. Vanilla Ice is on DWTS??? That's hilarious. I always thought he gave up dancing after his hey-day and especially the Suge Knight incident, even though I thought in his own way he was kind of a hip hop dance pioneer. Makes me wonder if Mc Hammer will get in the mix at some point.
  22. As far as I can remember, Val has never had an athlete as a partner so it'd be a welcomed change for him. Also, judging the floor routine, I think Laurie was the best in terms of quality of movement and hitting the beat during the dancing sections. Height will presumably be a challenge but... Other pros have had bigger physical barriers than height difference so I'm sure Val will be fine, if that's his partner. Also, Val and Zendaya are still quite close. Maks was in one of her recent music videos from a movie soundtrack, I believe it was a Peter Pan remake. Also, I've seen IG pictures where they've spent Christmas together and she went to the Maks and Val tour, not to mention being Val's partner in one of the Sway tours. Zendaya always seemed to be, though generally pretty bubbly, serious about performing and rehearsals especially for a teen which is most likely a result of the Disney training. In terms of partnership relationships being successful on the show AND longevity of relationship, Zendaya is probably Val's most successful partner.
  23. Color me shocked that Babyface would do this show, as from all appearances he is so well respected and his a definitive legacy in RNB music both in front and behind the scenes. He must want to get his name back out there to a wide audience to promote something. In regards to the Hough's return. Even though I've never been a huge Derek fan (except for oddly enough his season with Lil Kim), I simply don't see how Julianne is somehow magically qualified to be a judge. Like... honestly I'd much prefer her be a pro, then you'd REALLY see the other pros step up their game I think. To have both Hough's against both Chmerkovsky's, whether completely producer contrived or not, would make for a damn good rivalry during the season. To have Julianne as a judge is a waste of what could be a really entertaining season if she actually competed and to me just makes her look like she thinks she's too good to compete with the pros.
  24. Here goes my wish that I wouldn't have to see his mug again. His PR people are a sham, I echo the idea that he should have done something redemptive, like rehab or volunteer/charity work, before coming on the show. I mean... I remember Michael Phelps doing something illegal, was it weed? I honestly can't remember what it was which shows that he handled it the right way. If that's what it was, I also do not think that's worse than what Ryan did by a long shot. To be fair, Jenna has been doing both DWTS and SYTYCD for years now. I think she's been behind the scenes, and in front of the camera enough, to at the very least have an idea of how to handle a Ryan Lochte situation. Especially if her and Val or as close as they are rumored to be, she'll be getting good advice from someone who knows the ropes as well. From any of the new pros they may bring on, she's probably best equipped to deal with him as a partner. I honestly think a partner I don't want to see him with is Emma. I just don't see those 2 personalities meshing. I see him with Allison, Jenna, or maybe Lindsay if she's a pro.
