  1. I did look up Dave Hill--I know I've seen him before, and I was wondering if he was part of the "alternative comedy" scene that was big a few years ago--and found this fun fact on Wikipedia: That's kind of a cool theme, so maybe he needs to stick to music.
  2. Dude-heavy week... 6/22: Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) 6/23: Seth MacFarlane (actor, writer & director – promoting “Ted 2”) 6/24: Judge Andrew Napolitano (Senior Judicial Analyst for Fox News Channel) 6/25: Richard Lewis (comedian & author – promoting book “Reflections from Hell: Richard Lewis' Guide On How Not To Live”)
  3. Yep: 6/18: Malala Yousafzai (Student, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Co-Founder of Malala Fund – launching documentary “He Named Me Malala”)
  4. Latest update. Since there will be new shows airing through July 3, I would assume the following week will be a vacation week. Mo 6/15: Margaret Cho, Dave Hill, Matt Lucas Tu 6/16: Paul F. Tompkins, Ron Funches, April Richardson We 6/17: Hannah Hart, Matt Mira, Chris Cubas Th 6/18: Spike Feresten, Greg Fitzsimmons, Alison Rosen Mo 6/22: Randy Sklar, Jason Sklar Tu 6/23: Lauren Lapkus We 6/24: Jonah Ray, Cameron Esposito Th 6/25: David Koechner, Will Sasso Mo 6/29: Doug Benson Tu 6/30: Jonah Ray, Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon We 7/1: Paul Scheer Th 7/2: Hannibal Buress, Bridget Everett
  5. That is what the bottle looks like now. They changed it a few months ago. Ironically, I probably wouldn't have paid attention to the commercials were it not for the fact that I now have some kind of Bud Light Lime radar due to John Oliver and Stephen Colbert. (I don't drink beer so I generally tend to ignore the advertising.) I think John pokes fun at BLL for the same reason Jon Stewart jokes about Arby's -- it just turns into a running gag that, I'm guessing, somebody on the writing staff particularly enjoys. Eventually it gets a little wearying, like the "country in wrong place on the map" jokes.
  6. Oh man, TNS just HAS to cover this story next week. It's nice to see a hilarious (as opposed to sad/tragic) story about race making news.
  7. I don't know what I love more -- the fact that he repeatedly refers to John as an "American" comedian, or the dramatic orchestral music that is turned up so loud toward the end that I couldn't even make out what Warner was saying. Also: in the comments section, the composer of the music played in the video accuses Warner of using it without permission!! He does say he would be happy to provide music for John Oliver to use in a reply video. Seriously, Sunday's LWT should be EPIC.
  8. I saw Hard & Phirm 10 years ago at Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco -- they were opening for someone else (Patton Oswalt maybe?). I had never heard of Chris Hardwick at the time (didn't watch "Singled Out"), but I do remember that they did a number called "Rodeohead" which was a bluegrass/country medley of Radiohead songs. I was a huge Radiohead fan at the time so I found it hilarious.
  9. Well, I was close... (wrong Clinton) 6/17: Bill Clinton (Former President, talking about the work of the Clinton Foundation) 6/18 is still TBA.
  10. I'd be willing to bet a good amount of money that Hillary will show up on TDS before Jon's retirement. I don't know if she's one of next week's TBAs, but I just can't imagine that she won't appear at some point this summer.
  11. 6/15: Judd Apatow (director & author – promoting book “Sick in the Head”) 6/16: Aziz Ansari (comedian & author – promoting book “Modern Romance”) 6/17: Bill Clinton (Former President, talking about the work of the Clinton Foundation) 6/18: TBA
  12. I really hope that the TV-watching population of Trinidad enjoyed "John Oliver: The Mittens of Disapproval Are On" tonight.
  13. The Late Show web site posted a list of "25 things you didn't know about Stephen Colbert" My favorite is #13, because it's a callback to the Report.
  14. Tu 6/9: Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, Mike Nelson We 6/10: Jon Daly, Brandon Johnson, Megan Neuringer Th 6/11: Kyle Kinane, John Hodgman, Chris Gethard Mo 6/15: Margaret Cho, Dave Hill, Matt Lucas Tu 6/16: Paul F. Tompkins, Ron Funches, April Richardson We 6/17: Hannah Hart, Matt Mira, Chris Cubas Th 6/18: Spike Feresten, Greg Fitzsimmons, Alison Rosen Mo 6/22: TBA Tu 6/23: Lauren Lapkus We 6/24: Jonah Ray, Cameron Esposito Th 6/25: David Koechner, Will Sasso
  15. Speaking of L. Ron, take a close look at Stephen's desk in this video:
  16. He's been announced as a new cast member on the revival of "X-Files."
  17. I was really curious to hear what the title would be, actually, since after Jimmy Fallon took over "Tonight," the name changed from "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" to "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." I like to think Stephen's mention of "The Late Show With: Starring Stephen Colbert" was a dig at Jimmy Fallon, but that might just be 'cause I can't stand Fallon. Anyway, glad Stephen is sticking to the more humble "with."
  18. Wow, you were so right: 6/8: Nicola Sturgeon (First Minister of Scotland)
  19. Friend of the (old) show Jon Batiste is the new Late Show bandleader.
  20. I'm super curious to know what Comedy Central plans to put in the 11 PM slot after Jon retires but before Trevor takes over. Maybe @Midnight will temporarily move to 11? (I'd be fine with that.) In any case, I think it'll be interesting to see what TNS' ratings are like without the strong lead-in of TDS. Of course, CC could put a test pattern in that slot and it would still be preferable to the weird "crime time after prime time" reruns in the old Letterman hour...
  21. 6/8: TBA 6/9: Nick Offerman (actor & author – promoting book “Gumption: Relighting the Torch of Freedom with America's Gutsiest Troublemakers”) 6/10: Colin Quinn (comedian & author – promoting book “The Coloring Book: A Comedian Solves Race Relations in America”) 6/11: Mark Ruffalo (actor – promoting movie “Infinitely Polar Bear”)
  22. I wish he'd just have a one-on-one with the guest -- when Rashida Jones was on, for instance, the two comedians kept trying to get their "funny" lines in and Rashida didn't get enough of a chance to talk. I would have liked it if she'd been able to discuss her movie a bit more, since it sounds like an important and serious topic. Think along the lines of Bill Maher's weekly interview with his non-panel guest. I realize "TNS" is a comedy show, but even Stephen Colbert didn't feel obligated to make every interview segment all about humor. The opening segments are usually good, but the panel almost always brings the show down.
  23. TBS used to air a late night talk show after Conan: George Lopez. Actually, I believe he was originally on at 11 and was moved to midnight once Conan came along. Then his show was canceled and TBS is currently airing "Office" reruns at midnight, followed by a "Conan" re-airing at 12:30 AM. So Sam might go on at 12.
