  1. Amy Schumer would probably say "yes." And Alonzo Bodden, Joe Machi, Iliza Schlesinger and several other hard-working road comics have been able to build solid careers as headliners after their experience on "LCS." I think it has had a huge effect. Like with "American Idol," not everyone is going to go on to fame and glory, but the exposure has been a definite boost for many comics.
  2. Incidentally, AT&T Park (where the Giants play) is "the only new stadium built since the 1950s that was paid for entirely with private money." (source) Mainly because voters in SF rejected public funding four times at the ballot box. And I do think the ballpark has contributed a lot to the area around it -- there is relatively little parking so most people arrive via public transit, which leads to a vibrant street life. As far as I'm concerned, the Raiders can go ahead and move to L.A. Good riddance. Another thing about football stadiums that always strikes me as insane: for the most part, they're building this huge structure that will only be used a handful of times a year. At least with a baseball stadium, you know it'll be occupied 90 days each season, and more if the team makes the playoffs.
  3. He did that all the time on the Report, as well, when he was upset or frightened. "Snap out of it, Colbert!" That was the only time he ever used that pronunciation.
  4. Another great Colbert video: Nice to see that whoever worked as the animal wrangler on the Report has found work on the new show.
  5. The Bugle podcast will now be a monthly show, according to the Twitter feed. I was sure the end was near so I guess one Bugle a month is better than nothing. (There will also be occasional Satirist for Hire episodes and other sub-Bugles.) Still hoping Zaltzman will cross the pond and show up on LWT one of these days.
  6. I was wondering if her segment was taped at a different time or something -- she was on several New York-based TV shows that day. Maybe she just had to rush off. I agree it wasn't a great interview. RIcky Velez is super annoying. I LOVE Mike Yard, though. It occurred to me that I hadn't seen Shenaz Treasury in a while, and it seems like she's no longer affiliated with the show... her name has disappeared from the closing credits and she's no longer listed on the show's web site.
  7. I am super, super excited about Ta-Nehisi Coates, who is a longtime favorite of mine (I went to a book signing in San Francisco for his first book several years ago and was one of like 20 people in the audience -- I recently bought tix to his local appearance in October, which is in a 1600-seat theater). 7/20: Paul Rudd (actor – promoting movie “Ant-Man”) 7/21: TBA 7/22: Jake Gyllenhaal (actor – promoting movie “Southpaw”) 7/23: Ta-Nehisi Coates (author – promoting book “Between the World and Me”)

  9. http://spendyourleapsecondhere.com/ I got "Harvey Keitel crying strangely in 'Bad Lieutenant.'" I wonder how many there are?
  10. And the flag was put back up by a black state worker. TNS has already declared Monday Big Gay Monday, and promised to focus on the same sex marriage ruling, but I'll bet Larry won't be able to resist a shout-out to activist Bree Newsome.
  11. I was watching Stephen's classic "Oops-A-Daisy Homophobe" video today because it manages to encompass both the Confederate flag and gay marriage, making it perfect for this week, even though it aired over two years ago. So unfortunate that Stephen isn't on the air to react to the news... but then he dropped this video about the Supreme Court ruling. Of course, the "Stephen" character wouldn't have been allowed to wave rainbow flags and rejoice, but his takedown of the dissenters on the Court is not too different than something that could have appeared on the "Report." These videos keep filling me with anticipation for the Late Show!!!
  12. I find it very, very unlikely that they'd live stream the last show that early in the evening. I think some enterprising group of fans should try to live-blog or live-Tweet the whole marathon. "Tune in now to see Steve Carell's first appearance," that sort of thing.
  13. I believe Schilling is a first-time guest, but the rest are old faves: 6/29: Taylor Schilling (actress – promoting show “Orange is the New Black”) 6/30: Jon Hamm (actor – promoting movie “Minions”) 7/1: Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) 7/2: Sarah Vowell (author of upcoming book “Lafayette in the Somewhat United States”) Weeks of 7/6 & 7/13: DARK! Followed by the final 3 weeks of Jon. (sigh)

Gordon We 7/1: Paul Scheer, James Adomian Th 7/2: Hannibal Buress, Bridget Everett, Nikki Glaser Looks like there will be a 2 week break after 7/2.
  15. It said "Vallauri" at the top of the poster -- maybe it was a faux Alex Vallauri? In any event, they did an AMAZING job of recreating that commercial. The production design in that bit was incredible.
  16. A few years ago, there was a documentary film called "Cinemania" about a small group of New Yorkers who try to see every single movie that plays in the Big Apple. Basically they spend their entire lives going from one film to another. I suspect that "United Passions" was seen only by (a) eccentric diehards like the people profiled in "Cinemania" and (b) hatewatchers.
  17. Wow, Lea DeLaria is SHORT. She looked like she came up to Joel's waist. At the end of the show Joel announced that they were taking 2 weeks off. I think this is the first time in the decade or so I've been watching "The Soup" that there's been a break. Usually they'll air a clip show or something. But no, a reality show called "New Money" will be airing in the "Soup" time slot next Friday. I guess "The Soup" will be back on July 10.
  18. Arby's Tweeted humorously at Jon Stewart after he announced his retirement. They can definitely take a joke. The writers definitely have a tough job on days like today. I wouldn't mind it if Malala gets two segments. The full Clinton interview is 30 minutes long!!
  19. Those people who were cheering Donald Trump at his announcement yesterday were paid actors.
  20. There were plenty of times that TDS and TCR covered the same topic, sometimes in similar ways. There may have been some coordination at one point, but I don't think that was the case all along. Back on Television Without Pity "whose take was funnier, Jon's or Stephen's" was an occasional point of discussion. Certain news stories, like Rachel Dolezal and Donald Trump's campaign, are too big (and too funny) to ignore, I think. Personally, I feel like Jon Stewart owns the Trump-is-comedy-gold franchise, but I don't blame Larry and his writers (and panel) for taking a whack at it.
  21. Starts at 5 minutes 19 seconds in. Molly Bloom's Soliloquy
  22. I wasn't 100% bowled over by the Trump video, but there were some funny moments and at one point, Stephen quoted James Joyce's "Ulysses" -- on Bloomsday. So that was awesome! As far as I know, this is unprecedented: we're getting a look at an upcoming late night talk show as a work in progress, as it strives to develop its comedic voice. The "Late Show" that debuts in September won't be an unknown quantity to the people who have been following along all summer. I find that very exciting.
  23. Drat... in that case they will be taking 2 weeks off in July. It'll be like a small taste of the sad Jon-less future to come.
  24. No. I don't have the guest listing for the week of June 29, but @Midnight has some of its guests for that week up, so my guess is that the following week (July 6) will be dark. Last year the show took 2 weeks off around the 4th of July (6/27-7/13). Maybe because of Jon's impending retirement they'll only take one vacation week this year? After all, there won't be a "Daily Show" from Aug. 7-Sept. 27 (Trevor Noah's first show is Sept. 28). I can't remember how many shows Jon has left... I'm kind of in denial about it still.
