  1. ...Better the science teacher than the used car salesman.I ♥ your whole post so much, Camera One, that it was hard to edit it down to the best bits. It would be a great start to a thread of, maybe, "Why Watching Under The Dome Will Give You Mental Whiplash" or something--not quite sure of the title.* If someone was writing about this show in a PhD thesis in pop culture, the words "influenced by Sharknado" would surely appear. *Maybe the thread would be titled "Things That Make Us Shake Our Heads And Almost Keep Us From Becoming Brainless Zombies While Watching Under The Dome." Regardless of the title, this would be on it. Ooo! Ooo! I got this one! They actually said this at the beginning--which made Joe's hostile reaction to Norie's attempt to comfort him for the loss of his sister right after her own mother died make no sense at all--although what probably makes no sense is Norie making out with her new boyfriend days after Mom dies. But when Joe pointed the gun at the girl in the jail cell, I was sure that The Dome was making him do it. Maybe that would be the thread title: The Dome Made Them Do It
  2. I was hoping the camping trip would create sparks between Branch and Vic, who actually seem suited to one another, IMO. When Cady climbed in Henry's window, I thought: She really did grow up on a ranch. But then she went all stupid once she got inside.
  3. I think it's an interesting choice, linguistically, but don't actors get paid by the word? I wonder what the budgetary impact for the show is. It just occurred to me that she didn't have to pay for it after that.
  4. Not enough to warrant the carnage we saw, but: it would be pretty easy to destroy bodies and claim they "disappeared," plus: --which is not unheard of in times of war, past and present. I hope it's not supernatural. I would really prefer that they disappeared into a parallel universe because someone like Walter on Fringe had an experiment go wrong.
  5. I LOLed at the flashbacks. Jay Ryan has been nailing the comedic lines this season, but I guess neither he nor Kristin were up for old timey accents. When this show ends, I hope he gets to do straight comedy.
  6. I realize there are no detectives left in Domeville, but surely there are folks who have watched way too many crime shows. 1. Find the murder weapon (and dust it for finger prints) 2. Find the motive (Barbie pointed out the handprint on the locker, but New Sheriff DJ stopped him from checking it out). So if Junior didn't kill her in a drunken blackout, Big Jim might have done it and planted the evidence on Junior. Didn't Junior tell Big Jim that he and Angie were planning to kill him?
  7. Good idea. Better yet: http://www.lewiswaynegallery.com/tom-jerry-magic-slate-magician-1985-unused-magic-p-4983.html
  8. Probably. But I would prefer if it turns out he's a eunuch, and it's a twist that would fit with the level of violence we've seen thus far.
  9. Me too. Score one for linguistics and closed captions! Yes. More please. <begin Russian Grandma's accent>Or your leetle show will die!</end accent> I know!
  10. Seriously. As a small person who chopped cords and cords of fire wood over 15 years in my 20s and 30s and now suffers from herniated discs, I looked at the scene as was worried for Liv Tyler's health. The bagel subplot was the best part of the episode. I really thought it had disappeared like the 2%ers, but, nope, it wound up being a literal Leftover! Hah! So those two words from Liv Tyler's character: "hot cop," told us that yes, he really is supposed to be good looking in this world (it's not just because he's an actor) and she's likely going to get involved with him at some point. I wonder if there will be a fight to the death between her and his wife. :(
  11. So Carrie is a boxer too. Did I detect Al rolling his eyes at other characters' observations about her specialness? Or was that actor Dylan Walsh's reaction? Or maybe the director was using Dylan's character to express his own eye rolling over this plot convenience. And given how many times her specialness was remarked upon, likely the writers were rolling their eyes too. Anyway, kudos to the show for having the romantic triangle guy and Carrie carrying on off screen. Other shows should take note. This way they get the inevitable effect of Carrie and Al finally realizing how perfect they are for each other without having to spend precious screen time developing and disposing of Mr. Dreamy Plot Device.
  12. Having barely [mentally] survived last winter myself, I would wager those scenes were shot late winter/early spring. I'm guessing they figured with all the other weird crap going on, unseasonable amounts of snow would be par for the course. Or maybe it was supposed to be four to five months after the celebration? But, if so, when did the dog shootings take place? Both of these make sense. Maybe Nora volunteered to help process claims so she could get info since her entire family disappeared. I'm guessing with that many questions and folks in general being trigger happy (like the FBI/SWAT guys), Nora's gun was for self defense.I have to admit, I'm still watching in part because of favorable reviews. But I bailed on Orange is the New Black after the second episode and never started Walking Dead, so if it gets much weirder in violent, graphic ways, I may quit.
  13. And his daughter saw "the bald dude," so score 2.And Liv Tyler referred to him as "the hot cop," followed by his wife writing, "I remember." I'm guessing the chief reacted like the fiancé of Liv Tyler when his wife joined, and wishes he had tried to talk her into coming home. So if the son hadn't shot the SWAT guy, I'm guessing the girl would be dead, right? I mean, they were shooting a lot of people. I guess life's not so precious anymore? Unless you're a feral dog? The title of the episode, "Penguin One, Us Zero," was explained by the shrink (kids take out their aggressions on the inflatable penguin), but are penguins often used that way? I remember from the one-season series, Awake, the main character kept hallucinating a penguin. Probably no connection, right? In the credit at the end, it showed "Brendan Burke" played "A-Hole," so maybe that's the only humor? I mean, there were a lot of A-Holes, right? And there are 3 Brendan Burkes listed in IMDb, LOL. Is Mayor Lucy the chief's father's wife or lover or friend or...?
  14. Adam Rodriguez is always playing good guys who might be bad but not really.
  15. I imagine Stahma preferring to preserve Kenya's body in a Cinderella-esque glass coffin-ish alien structure.
  16. Seriously? Or are you just channeling Temperance Brennan? ;-)
  17. If so, good choice. I've seen moms who have yelled at their crying kids, so I thought this mom, in contrast, was acting appropriately, even sympathetically. I was wondering at first if she was going to crack and express her frustration, but she never spoke unkindly about or to the baby. Laws require that the baby be strapped into a car seat in the back seat, which visually does seem to give the impression of the mother distancing herself from the child. Anyway, babies cry, often because they're tired, and there's nothing like a nice ride in the car to put them to sleep. Strap 'em in and take off.
  18. @DittyDotDot, I don't lock my doors either, but I started locking my car door at work after I noticed smells of BO and cigarettes in it on cold sunny days, and especially after I heard of a someone who never locked his car until he found a drunk in it who have vomited and passed out. So, not locking doors at home really does depend on your neighborhood, and probably appearances of wealth worth looting. Upthread someone mentioned the Only On TV trope of ending a phone conversation without saying goodbye. Do people IRL ever do that?? And: Do people on TV ever say goodbye before ending a call? Sometimes I think I catch a look on the actor's face that seems to telegraph that they're thinking something like: I can't believe they wouldn't pay me for one more word so I could say "bye" like a real person. Sheesh!
  19. Yeah, either it's a tease without an answer, or it is something yet to be revealed. Crying babies do often stop momentarily when they start to fall asleep but don't quite get there, but if we were clearly shown that the baby paused to look at something, well, then there should be something to notice. Oh, ganesh, please don't use the "e" word. Heh. Wasn't it not until the second season of The Event that we learned what "the event" was? At least with this show, the title references the people we meet in the first episode.
  20. Didn't Jessie already know Saul at the time he was first introduced on Breaking Bad? Or did Badger or Skinny Pete refer Jessie to Saul?
  21. I first bookmarked this graphic in 2010, but the apparent abilities to extract crime solving details from photos still seems to be the stuff of science fiction:
  22. This episode could easily have been the basis for a 10 or 13 episode miniseries a là True Detective or Fargo, but with a courtroom component. I wonder if Murder in the First (currently airing Mondays) will get to the courtroom.
  23. And was so much more appropriate for Walt than Vic! *sigh* Why, Show? Why are you going there? Because of some book source material? Grow a pair, Show, and be your own person!
  24. If I were a show writer/runner who had just noticed this flaw in the script, I'd have the cult started by someone who was an heir to a tobacco company when the owner of more than half of the company disappeared and was later declared legally dead. Of course, that's assuming the insurance companies have settled on allowing the Clean Platers to be declared dead--which they might not have done.
  25. Okay, I've been thinking about this for awhile, and this episode-to-be is triggering it even more so: Barbara Kingsolver's 2013 novel, Flight Behavior, heavily featured monarch butterflies and a red-haired female protagonist. Not sure if there's a connection, but... In the book, the butterflies were threatened by climate change, and this caused them to relocate. The dome is by nature a microclimate. Is this just a coincidence, or was the writer who introduced the monarch butterflies in the first place stoned when s/he read Flight Behavior, or maybe his/her partner was listening to the audio book version in the car or in bed while the writer was dozing off, and then when s/he saw Rachelle LeFevere's hair thought "Monarch butterflies!"?
