  1. Which the Simpsons had already covered several years ago:
  2. IMHO, The fact that this death was hyped up for two year really let down the episode when the death actually happened.
  3. "I smell another cheap cartoon crossover." So...this episode happened. The Simpsons jokes came off MUCH better than the Family Guy stuff. Hell, I thought this was a better Simpsons episode than the Simpsons episode that was just on! They even managed to showcase lots of seldom seen characters lately: Apu, Dr. Nick, Patty & Selma, etc., and Hans Moleman being the car thief. Lots of unnecessary meanness though, but that's most likely from the Family Guy side of the writing. "Springfield eh? What state?" "I can't imagine we're allowed to stay." Sometimes it's the simple meta things. I got a little kick out of the Simpsons being concerned about Brian being a dog while being unfazed by Stewie being able to talk. "I matter!" "Shut up Meg, you don't matter!" As mean as that was, I actually liked Lisa trying to bond with Meg. Family Guy voices coming out of Simpsons characters, that's what I find the most jarring in this episode. You know what? Not that shocked that Pawtucket Patriot is literally rebranded Duff. It did seem to go downhill after Pawtucket Pat sold the brewery. Loved the hell out of the courthouse scene with the obligatory comparison between the show's characters. Showing both version of James Woods was my favorite part. Also, anyone else spot Matt Groening sitting next to Seth? And yes, I liked how Fred Flinstone called out both Peter and Homer for being derivative. I want to watch the story of Roger going to camp with Kang and Kodos, okay? ETA: "Worst. Chicken Fight. Ever." I liked it, but this show's style of violence just seems so off-putting in the world of the Simpsons. They're much more slapsticky, and I was cringing quite a few times during the fight.
  4. "I've missed us." Couldn't agree more, show. Terry Crews needs awards, and Andre Braugher got robbed. "Adelaide has successfully transformed back into a giant man."
  5. 26 seasons already! From SNPP: So we finally find out who dies (FYI: They're not even trying to hide it anymore that it'll be ). ETA: Well, that Don Hertzfeldt couch gag was amazing. The bit starting with Homer reverting to his Tracey Ullman version was a great touch. "Spoiler Alert: Unfortunately, my dad doesn't die." That opening had a bunch of death imagery. And we saw Flanders as an angel right at the beginning, Nice seeing Krusty get roasted. It actually parallels when Joan Rivers got roasted. She also planned to retire, but hated the roast so much she got back in the game. Sure, that was all staged, but Jeff Ross was at both roasts. (According to writer Michael Price, it more resembled Chevy Chase's. I'm gonna agree with him, that roast was just SAD). Appreciated seeing Sideshows Bob and Mel meet for the first time. 25 seasons and this never happened?! I also liked seeing Gabbo and Arthur Crandall's cameos. And David Hyde Pierce and Garry Marshall appeared as themselves, too. Seeing Homer with sleep apnea was more sad than funny. As was seeing Krusty and his father at what I'm assuming was his mother's grave. I'm gonna agree with Rabbi Krustofski, I give this episode an "Eh." It was okay, but some parts were just SAD and I'm referring to Lisa's plot there. I went through a couple of deaths over the summer so that hit me pretty hard.
  6. It's back! To reintroduce myself, if you followed this show on TWOP, you might remember me as InvaderNorbert, obsessive recapper of SNL. Hello again! Cold Open: Opening with NFL stuff I see. I like Jay as Shannon Sharpe and Chris as Roger Goodell. Not much happened except for Shannon Sharpe's randomly growing bow tie. I like Darrell Hammond and I appreciate using his own voice, but the intro is not the same without Don Pardo's cadence. Monologue: I love Chris Pratt and he's quite talented musically, but come on, STARTING with a musical monologue? Come on. At least it was kinda funny. Hey look, it's his wife and former SNL host Anna Faris! Cialis Turnt: I think I'm officially too old for SNL's references, I am not a fan of the whole "turnt" thing. I did laugh at "Congratulations, you're officially legally Lil Wayne." Birthday Wish: Chris Pratt & Taran as He-Man and Lion-O! This was so stupid, and creepy. That's a new feeling. Really loved seeing She-Ra too. I wish we saw a little more of the mom, Aidy was pretty funny here. She's really good in the "repressed suburban mom" role. Vets: We've seen this sketch before, where everyone's pets are dead and/or murdered. Too short and not really clear on why those pets kept dying. The orderlies just murder pets for some reason? Marvel Can't Fail: LOVED the hell out of this. Creatures of The Cosmos was great (A pastry chef, a Harlem globetrotter, an alien sign spinning real estate agent, some guy dressed as Grimace, & an office chair!), Pam 2: The Winter Pam, and my favorite "Bus People." You know damn well you'd pay to see that one. I lost it at Chris Pratt as Leia. Oh to be a fly on the writer's room wall when they were pitching for this one. WU: Hey, this is the first Update that's anchored by two men. How progressive. And I'm liking the spiffy new set and intro. Girl You Wish You Hadn't Started A Conversation With At A Party is back! Michael Che impressing me right off the back here with his reactions to her. He was great on Daily Show and he's gonna do just fine here. Hell, calling it right now, he's already my favorite anchor since Amy and Tina. "If Neil Grasse Tyson is so smart, then why'd he bite that guy's ear off?" Loved seeing Leslie Jones again! And hey, a showcase for the new guy! Seeing a 20 year old castmember makes me realize how little I've done with my life. Girl's Night: What the hell did I just watch? Aidy and Chris Pratt trying to rap their feelings to each other? The hell? Chris just gave a look to the camera that said "are we really doing this?" Maxie: This was silly and weird. I liked how the establishing shot of the apartment was a castle for some reason. I don't know if it was intentional that the music was louder than the dialogue but it was a nice touch. NFL Offenses: I liked this, and it was a much better way to cover that NFL bullcrap than the cold open. Loved hearing all the offenses (sorry folks, but I got a kick out of one admitting to being an American Taliban). Loved seeing Michael Che and Leslie Jones! I hope this trend continues with them in sketches. I was wondering why they didn't go with Zasheer for the wife, but I figured Leslie pulled that bit off better. Puzzle World 6: This was freaking silly as hell. I felt like Chris Pratt was mostly wasted outside of the taped stuff. I completely forgot that he was hosting after Update.
  7. "Furry Balls Plopped Menacingly on The Table, Inc." not quite as catchy as "CompuGlobal Hyper MegaNet." I like that the boys have finally adopted the Underpants Gnomes Business Model. Except "Collect Underpants > ? > Profit" has been replaced these days by "Start Up > Cash In > Sell Out > Bro Down." I got a big kick out of how ISIS ended up embracing the Washington Redskins. Using actual audio of Roger Goodell AND revealing he was a robot? I love you, South Park. I loved this one, and I hope this sets a trend of greatness this season. ETA: I loved how the boys were completely earnest & honest that their company was a complete scam. Can't get any more audacious than Cartman answering the phone with "Washington Redskins, Go Fuck Yourself" with that shit eating grin of his.
  8. It turns out that one of the reasons for Season 1's long hiatus was because episodes kept missing deadlines. "I want you to find a girl. Before I ascend to heaven to be with the angels." "And Grandpa!" "No...he is not there." I relate to Soos too much. I can't flirt to save my life. And that dating sim hit a little too close to home. "9 out of 10 basement dwellers recommend!" I got a huge kick out of School University, too. And did anyone else think of Archer with Giffany? She looks a lot like Dr. Krieger's hologram anime wife. Heh, "Meatcute." I see what you did there. I got really happy for Soos when he managed a date with Melody, and how he got out of it relatively okay. The Animatronic Band 1) was totally creepy and 2) Clearly based on The Rock-A-Fire Explosion from the old Showbiz Pizza joints from back in the day. (You can still find them in Fun Zone-like places.) God, I loved Stan and Goldie touring Vegas during the credits there. All in all, another fantastic episode. ETA: The code in the journal page before the Disney logo translates as follows: WINNING HOARTS BY DAYLIGHT POSSESSING ROBOTS BY MOONLIGHT HER EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE IS A REAL FRIGHT SHE HAS THE ONE NAME GIFFANY
  9. You know, this episode definitely reminded me of Rick & Morty. If you haven't watched it, you must. Twelve is the belligerent old scientist/time traveler and Clara is the young companion he drags along on his adventures because he needed another person with him. If Pink ever joins the TARDIS crew, I'd imagine this kind of relationship really forming between him and the Doctor. I'd ay "but you'd forget about the Silence as soon as you looked away," but yeah, lots of freaking New Who monsters are like that.
  10. Yeah, I'm quite surprised by that announcement. Michael Che is also the first African-American anchor of WU since, what, Eddie Murphy? I remember him hosting some version of Update back in the day.
  11. I'd love to see Kate McKinnon's take on Leslie Knope. But I do hope Amy herself shows up, or literally anyone else from P&R like Nick Offerman because that would be amazing. I want Nick Offerman to host is what I'm saying.
  12. Was just coming here to post that! I really hope they cover that one.
  13. I almost forgot this was on! D: So awesome to see Bill Cipher again. Making Dipper as a "puppet?" I literally said "oh shit" at this, ESPECIALLY when he destroyed the laptop. There's another mystery that won't be getting solved any time soon. Dipper with cat eyes just looked...not right. "Human soda! I'm gonna drink it like a person!" "Hey Soos, want to hear the exact time and date of your death?" "Haha, sure!" "Whoa, children fighting! I can sell this!" Stan was great in this. The Sock Opera was legitimately awesome. I'd pay to see it. EDIT: Haven't gotten the code for the end-credits, but the one on the Journal page right before the Disney logo is as follows: NO PUPPET STRINGS CAN HOLD ME DOWN SO PATIENTLY I WATCH THIS TOWN ABNORMAL SOON WILL BE THE NORM ENJOY THE CALM BEFORE THE STORM
  14. My least favorite is "Love is a Many Strangled Thing." If you don't remember that one, Homer make Bart accidentally pee his pants while on the Jumbotron. Then he goes into therapy for always choking Bart. This leads to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar showing up for some reason dressed as Homer to choke him out. There's a part in the episode where Homer almost accidentally hangs himself. It's the only episode out of 552 that made me feel bad about myself for watching.
  15. "It's gonna be bigger than ten super bowls!" Well, we've officially hit The Wall (aka, post season 9), who's still watching? I am, but barely hanging on as it is. And I've seen all 552, so we're in for some deep hurting after Seasons 13 and 14 are done. ETA: I had to miss it most of Thursday and Friday but I had the marathon running in my head. I didn't leave the house for the entire weekend and only stopped to go out for food and to watch Doctor Who & Space Dandy. One of the best weekends I've ever had.
  16. I was thinking that this was not too subtle jab at the fangirls who needed to be told to get used to an older Doctor.
  17. Sad day. 96 is a hell of a long run, and he'll never be forgotten. Who expected him to last as long as he did, even doing the opening from home? So...is it too soon to predict who will replace him? I'm banking on Steve Higgins.
  18. Also, the show totally got away with showing one of the golf people die. RIP Big Henry. BTW, one of the codes (the one shown on a title card just before the Disney logo) translates to "OLD MAN SLEEPING IN THE GREEN CAN'T HELP BUT WONDER WHAT HE'S SEEN"
  19. This was another great one! "Must. Follow. Newspaper." Soos continues to be weirdly hilarious. I loved his W-necks...and that Pacifica liked them. It was also a great touch seeing his garbage bag poncho. I want to see more of Mabel's stickers. I bet they'll show up again. Also, we need these stickers for real. The Lilli-putt-ians were great, I liked how each hole had its own society. We essentially had Patton Oswalt vs John O'Hurley vs Jim Cummings battle each other for supremacy of a mini-golf course. And it was awesome.
  20. And then Hannity proves it. (EDIT: Someone beat me to this. Point still counts.)
  21. I enjoyed the Foxy pirates, even if I knew it was all filler going in to it. But when the Water 7 arc started I was like "shit got real in this show." Yeah, that dumb 4Kids dub kept me away from this series until [as] picked it up. And I regret not getting into this sooner.
  22. Only if you're Ace and have a superpowered bat. As for most disappointing? The past few seasons have been disappointing, but I'll say the third Star Wars special. Not as good as the first two.
  23. That's a really good theory. Also, goats have square pupils, they always look weird.
  24. Gravity Falls is officially an Emmy-winning show! Dreamscaperers won one for "Individual Achievement in Animation."
