  1. Well the writers provided some updates (like Homer's search for Wifi, the Soarin' parody, etc) but the first draft was a 20 year old spec script written by Judd.
  2. Neighbor: I've Got Crabs: Hermit Crab Emporium Exterminator: My Fair Spray-dy Burger(s) of The Day: Blue is the Warmest Cheese Burger, Three Beets to the Wind Burger, The Grand Brie Burger It was nice to see the biker gang again. And speaking of characters we haven't seen in a while, Hugo came back. I'm not a big fan of him. I like how Louise brought up Tina's parking lot incident for why she shouldn't be driving the go kart. That was a serious low blow. But seeing Tina help Louise win and then seeing them both sleep with the trophy was such a great moment. And they were both holding the trophy in the credits! That was sweet. I also love how Bob and Linda were so supportive and actually didn't expect either of them to win. "Dibs on not handling it!"
  3. "Hey everyone, Brian is the new Meg!" This whole episode in a nutshell. Ugh. Well, they were right that being an idiot involves forwarding mildly funny emails that everyone's seen already. With twelve fonts in seven colors.
  4. "Dude, I'm not gonna buy a pot. We're not married." Oh, Rosa. What is with Boyle's obsession with the sensuality of shampooing someone's hair? It's gotta lead to something. (ETA: I'm also not surprised that Boyle's dog are incredibly horny all the time) Of course Holt would eat non-brand "Nutrition Bricks." And that his favorite breakfast is plain toast.
  5. Written by Judd Apatow...20 years ago. But anyway, this was an actually funny episode. "Snowmen Don't Have Carrot Penises." Really loved that couch gag. The worried face on Maggie was what made it for me. Really loved the reveal that there was another safety inspector in 7G and he's been covering for Homer all these years. That explains so much about his job and how he can get away with, well, being Homer. So much of Homer's dialogue just screamed "this was written by a kid in the 90s." Essentially, Homer got hypnotized into thinking he's Peter Griffin. I'd say I wish we saw more of Itchy & Scratchyland, but we already spent ten minutes in Disneyland last week. But I liked the Soarin' spoof, complete with MST3K reference.
  6. Jon Benjamin livetweets the Archer premiere, it's completely amazing.
  7. When I went to the Archer panel at NYCC last year, the only detail of this episode that they mentioned was that Edie will be voiced by Uma Thurman. At 2013's NYCC panel, Amber Nash said she wanted to see an episode at Poovey Farm where she voiced her whole family Nutty Professor style.
  8. Recreation of Brett's death. And that it was a part of trolling Malory was just a great touch.
  9. "Your authority is not recognized in Fort Kickass" was the moment when he became my favorite character.
  10. I caught this at the Archer panel at NYCC. It was a definite improvement over Archer Vice (and I LIKED that whole season). "You're up to your nipples in cobra whiskey and ladyboy hookers?" "...YOU DON'T KNOW ME!" The reveal that the cool new office was just a hologram for the regular office was one of the best things the show has ever done. I remember everyone going nuts over it at NYCC. But Pam & Cheryl essentially being back to normal was gold here. They got every detail of the office down exactly, right down to Brett's bloodstain. For no reason other than "the look on your dumb face." So...they kept the Krieger clone, I'm guessing? Or is it the brain-damaged one? They're still being vague about it. NEXT WEEK: The return of Christian Slater and Conway Stern!
  11. I only watched these first couple of episodes because of Gilbert Gottfried. And since he got fired for once again having no filter (he gave zero shits about talking about sex during a presentation on popsicles, what's not to love?), I am done with this one. These are the things I took away from these episodes: 1) Gilbert Gottfried is awesome 2) The women's team is Bitch Central (ugh, Kate Gosselin & Real Housewives are still a thing) 3) It's fun to shit on Geraldo (it's probably why he's being kept around) ETA: 4) With Ian Ziering on one team and Vivica A. Fox on the other, I realized that this season is Sharknado vs Sharknado 2.
  12. I love how Mr. Frond called Rudy "Regular-Sized Rudy" like everyone else does.
  13. Such a great episode tonight. Neighbor: Cat-Like Refluxes: Feline Gastroenterologist Burger of The Day: Beets of Burden Burger (served with too many beets) I love that Tina's groans make Mr. Frond nauseous. "Chinese finger trap, I got it as a party favor. But in America." Of course Tina would find being a Hall Monitor to be serious business. So THIS was the episode where Bob did the Life Drawing of Edith from Reflections. They showed this as an animatic at NYCC. "It's super yummy!" I loved that Linda eagerly showed the drawing to the kids. "Saggy and sophisticated." Gene was on fire tonight. "Nub party!" "All bowels are irritable." "And I'm going to eat this chalk. We all won today."
  14. Yes, Chris is that dumb that the first thing he does in a dream is to slice off his own hand. Thankfully the episode got much better once the time travel started. Yeah, we really needed to see Brian beat Pavlov to death with his own bell. And everyone farting with Jane Austen. But I liked seeing Vinny's VO appear, even for a brief moment. And yes, that was pretty much the 1990's in a nutshell.
  15. Brooklyn Nine-Nine finally takes a winning page from Parks & Rec: Get everyone drunk and hilarity will follow. Of course Amy is drunk after two drinks, she was great. Until she became Six Drink Amy and became sad (but still funny). "How untethered is Vacation Terry from his wife?" "Very tethered." I loved Vacation Terry so much. He even plays Kwazy Kupcakes! The ending was fantastic. I wish there was more than two minutes of Holt joining in on the fun! "Real Ray or Fake Ray" was such a great thing.
  16. That couch gag was great, that's totally like Homer to change the channel on artwork. Loved the riffs on Disneyland, they nailed every part of modern day Disney so well (like how expensive and crowded everything is). They even covered Disney's assimilation of Star Wars. There weren't even that many rehashes of Itchy & Scratchyland, either. Was not amused by the rehash on the "Homer eats chips in space" bit. But I would've complained if the chips weren't ruffled. I love how Homer's list of Earth's greatest accomplishments include free refills and moon rocks. David Mirkin explained over Twitter why the episode was held over for so long: they tried to retool this into a second Simpsons movie. It seems to not have worked out since we're seeing it now. And I'll admit, this episode really could have benefited from a longer runtime, this one lost steam once the family got abducted. Every single beat was so predictable, and most of those beats were not even funny. I really wish that Rigellian that looked like Lisa had more significance (but I bet in an expanded version she would have). The dullness of this one baffled me, especially since the episode suddenly turned into Star Trek at the end, and that part was fantastic. Although Futurama did it first, their version of the Star Trek credits was great. They even had Burns as that alien at the end (which Futurama did with Kif) ETA: Speaking of Futurama, I realize why this plot was so dull: That show did that one SO much better with "The Problem with Popplers."
  17. You really hit the nail on the head there. As a performer, I'm perfectly fine with her. She has total commitment to anything she does, tosses herself into any character she plays, and I love her impressions (ie, Suze Orman was always completely dead-on). She seems to me like she's such a great person, but just about every sketch she's in revolves around her character. Very rarely is she ever "woman #1," a member of an ensemble. It's always about her, and everyone else has to react to her. It's like Poochie from the Simpsons, it's almost as if a sketch doesn't star her, everyone should be asking "Where's Kristen Wiig?" A great example was from last year's episode where they parodied The Sound of Music Live. It starts off good, then Doonise (the weird tiny hands girl) shows up and shoves Kate's character out of the way and takes over. And that's on top of that every one of those sketches had the same joke every. single. time. The only thing that changed were the people reacting to her. It's a reason why I love Kate McKinnon. She has that same awesome commitment and talent, but she can also be part of the ensemble.
  18. They did take advantage of this the first time Amy Adams hosted. They played twins who always switched places with each other (but one of them got fat).
  19. I have friends who are cops that had to respond to that. It's awful, but that's neither here nor there right now. Cold Open: IT'S DR. EVIL!! Here to tell off both Sony and North Korea. Which, of course, was awesome. Monologue: I love Amy Adams and the whole thing was very sweet and sincere, but no more f'ing songs! And no more Kristen Wiig, please. It was a callback to the last time Amy Adams hosted, but still. Asian-American Doll: I loved that. Now if only they hired an Asian-American cast member... Christmas Rap 2014: This was a fun one. Loved Kate in this. Serial: The Christmas Surprise: Of course it was magic, that specific NERF gun wasn't made back then. I haven't seen Serial but have heard what it's about, but this seemed like a great parody of it. This was just funny on its own. Girlfriends Talk Show: I'm beginning to think Cecily's character is a horrible friend. At least the host isn't playing another cool girl that overshadows Aidy. And here's the requisite One Direction cameo. I'm pretty sure one of those guys was a robot. "Hel-lo Mor-gan." Office Christmas Party: This was great. "Why is there a goat here?!" WU: Loved Michael Che's talk to Kimberly Jong Un. And Bobby showing up as Kim Jong Un (and being called out on it). I even liked Kenan's super-positive neighbor. But that all came to a halt once Garth and Kat showed up. A Very Cuban Christmas: I'd appreciate this more if I was Cuban. I liked how they used Cuban celebrities, and then started to grasp at strings with Cuba Gooding Jr. And here's a better Fred Armisen cameo! Loved seeing "Fidel," and the requisite shoehorning of Obama. I felt like this could've been better. A Magical Christmas: This one was weird, and compared to other 12:50 sketches, that's saying something. Se 1940's dames want to eat garbage? Because they were raccoons this whole times? Whiskers R We: The weird cat people are back! I love Kate McKinnon, she was great in this. Also, those cats were adorable, even the one that has power of attorney. Kristen Wiig aside, I really enjoyed this one even if I felt like they didn't seem to do much with Amy Adams. The show returns January 17th with Kevin Hart as host (and with the lack of a musical guest announcement, I'm gonna assume he'll be covering that, too. A guy can dream).
  20. Helen Thomas passed away a few years back, too.
  21. Yeah, I knew I'd be corrected by that. And yes, color me shocked that they were both there. It's a shorter list to see which running gags/segments/characters WEREN'T namechecked over the past two weeks. I'd say David Cross as forgotten character Russ Lieber, and the On Notice/Dead to Me boards were the only ones not to come back. (ETA: Also: The Button, Killer, Wilford Brimley, and I would've loved to have seen Hans Beinholtz the German comedian in that crowd)
  22. As someone who's been watching this show since it was a fake bumper on the Daily Show, It's been a hell of a ride and I'm thankful I got to ride it with all of you. There's now a giant hole in America that won't be patched anytime soon, but I'm more than satisfied at how the show ended. The fact that it all turned out to be a 9 year long Daily Show report? Gold. Man, just about EVERY major guest was there tonight, except, unsurprisingly, Mike Huckabee. Elliot Spitzer was there, for god's sake! ETA: "Holland, 1945" by Neutral Milk Hotel
  23. That was everything I'd hope it would be, and more. The show went out the only way it could: Stephen, wielding Captain America's shield & the Elvish blade Sting, flies off into the night with Santa, Unicorn Lincoln, and Alex Trebek. If I saw correctly, Stone Phillips (the very first guest and the first repeat guest) was among the sea of cameos. That includes George Lucas, Barry Manilow, Eleanor Holmes Norton. Big Bird, Michael Stipe, Patrick Stewart, and Cookie Monster in the same room.
  24. So, any guesses to who the REAL final guest is going to be? Grimmy is slated to appear, but you know Stephen's gonna throw in some cameos. My guess is that Stone Phillips is gonna show up, being the first guest (and the first repeat guest) after all.
