  1. I thought the portrayal of Cathy's mother's illness and the situation the family was forced into was very realistic for the times. They really had few options, especially considering they were not wealthy enough for private care of some kind. Leonard was very supportive of Mrs. M (or should I say Mrs. C), and he was the perfect one for the proper reaction and comfort. It was absurd for Will to propse...and her response was perfect....no way. Geordie is definitely back to being a good husband and father. I guess Cathy never really talked about her mother's mood swings, strange behavior, etc.
  2. Kathy has spunk and intelligence....glad Geordie is encouraging her in her new position. Her mother is another story. I think the kids now know their grandmother is not the sweeite they might have thought. Happy neither brother was the murderer. What a wonderful bond they shared. Will's mom will probably never admit being drawn to the same type of domineering men...so will no doubt continue to chose the wrong person every time.
  3. I liked that we learned more about Nancy...and that she really is a strong woman. Having a child as a result of rape, especially at that time, had to be an incredibly difficult experience. At least she has seen her son grow up and have an important career. (However, I think he is an idiot in some ways...like not grasping how frightening it was for a black man...and all of the jews in the encampment with him.) I have absolutely no sympathy for Lois. She has created all of her own problems...yet expects everyone to hate Harry as the villain who abandoned a pregnant woman, etc. Douglas has two truly dislikeable children. I admire him for handling all that he has been through, and remaining able to open his heart to others. He and Jan make a fine team.
  4. I think the meat cleaver guy was told to back off....just in time. Had he not gotten the message, then Genevieve would have been killed pointlessly. That was the suspense involved. I liked the entire season...but felt Niels was the one who should have died....not his mother. I wondered through the whole finale if the actress playing Genevieve was pregnant...not just because of the loose white blouses. Her whole body from armpits to thighs seemed to have gotten thicker. Not many of the characters ended with any happiness -- or even their lives in tact. Natalie's sister not surviving was especially sad.
  5. At least we got to see Herman, Caspar, and the little boy having a somewhat happy ending. Constantine and the other hired hands were evil, conscienceless men...but we saw that Niels demanded that kind of behavior and obedience. To me, that makes him the worst villain of all. It appears that he went to a Netherlands jail. Considering the crimes covered several countries (Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Romania, etc.) would he be tried in an international court eventually? I want them to use the laws of the country with the strictest penalties...and the worst prisons. Genevieve and Julien laughing hysterically in the car after they had been chased and shot at....loved it. "Did you get the license?" I, too, believe the man in the nursing home had been injured because Genevieve failed to protect him. She may have felt guilt about an affair with a married man....but that could not compare to the guilt she lives with for causing him to end up in a vegetative state. No happy ending for Edward....by far. As he said, he just wanted to help....and look at the havoc that was wreaked. Of course, he made some poor decisions along the way.
  6. I think Nancy Campbell tried to get some truth out on her broadcasts....but everything was so heavily edited by TPTB it was nearly hopeless. Of course, they attempted to keep the American reporter in the dark as much as possible....so I was not surprised she did not know about the elimination of the "defective." She did realize the Nazis faked so much about the cause of the Polish invasion...but no one (including her American bosses) encouraged her to broadcast the truth. In fact, her boss ordered her to ignore what she knew. Yep, I did love that she did not flinch when Mr. Rossler wanted her help in getting rid of the body.
  7. It appeared that most of the screens showed pretty ordinary venues - laundromat, outside of a garage, etc. Visser had to do some digging to get that shot inside the garage's bathroom. Of course, not sure if it was his camera for the bathroom...or he was tech-savvy enough to hack into the garage's CCV camera.
  8. I realize they could have been try to deceive us by the angle of the shots showing that someone was lurking and watching, but I don't think the attendant would have had the right perspective for spying.
  9. Did you mean Stratton not Stoddard? I can believe either situation with the money stolen from the car....the man who was so helpful or someone following Herman. My question if he was being followed....why let Herman live? I realize that it would have meant (most likely) killing the boy, too. Considering how ruthless the bad guys are in this story, killing a small child would not be surprising.
  10. Some questions answered this week...some new ones arose. I could not figure out who the woman was (visiting in a nursing home or hospital). Was I supposed to know her? Of course, later in the episode we did find out.
  11. Seen all the episodes....it does get more intriguing....but not necessarily less depressing. Harry's sergeant is one of the people that have some real depth. Keep on folks, it gets better.
  12. I am not participating just yet....don't want to be spoiled. I can binge it on PBS passport, but am trying to resist that.
  13. I had the opposite reaction....I'm anxious to see if Max and Oscar can overcome their respective obstacles. As far as Clara vs Lydgate.....Clara has more warmth and charm; Lydgate has a more logical and analytical mind. I am curious to see if Clara is truly out of the picture...and if Lydgate can eventually begin to open up personally. Regarding the girl's father committing suicide: he maintained that she was everything to him, yet chose suicide....leaving her totally alone. I never have understood decisions of that kind. That school was depressing, though....I agree with you.
  14. Clara was growing into a deeper, more empathetic character. Did not want the engagement broken. The inspector was right about not charging the soldier for the assault....for those times.
  15. I don't think Max is trying to lead his fiance on....so much as feels he is doing the accepted thing. He is expected to marry, take on family responsibilities, etc...and she is an attractive, good-natured woman who obviously cares for him. Hopefully, both of them will realize it is not a healthy relationship ... soon. I've enjoyed the show (up to episode 3)....and find the leads are appealing and smart.
  16. Could have cared less who won....so Hannah getting the mirror ball was a "who cares?" moment. Lauren should not have been there....even with the simplest dances provided by Gleb all season, she was barely adequate...and sometimes just bad. Another lackluster season...actually, last year's winner was the worst ever.
  17. Overall, I was really pleased with this new season. I probably would rate the first season a bit higher....but not by much. They surprised me with a some of the twists, without stretching things beyond credibility. That's tough to do in an action series like this. Some of the new characters (November, Bishop, Gloria, etc.) were great additions. Shame some of them won't be back.
  18. Let's see....does Lauren have a new single out...yes. Overscoring her might be their way of guaranteeing she remains for max p.r. for her new music.
  19. I don't think the whole show is fixed....but I think there agreements in place that say, a singer with a new single coming out, is going to be guaranteed to remain on the show long enough to boost their songs....no matter his/her skill level.
  20. Ooops....you are right. My goof. Stilll think it was a very bad idea to just show up at Jan's door.
  21. Don't know that I can be too critical of Jean Shepard;s reaction and comments. Not only did she lose one son in Viet Nam,and another to suicide....but if you will recall, when she was 8-months pregnant....her husband was killed in the plane crash that took Patsy Cline. I agree with a poster who pointed out that, since the protesters actually knew where she lived, they could have contacted her first with a letter asking if she would be interested in joining them. To knock on her door with no forewarning was a terrible idea.
  22. Just about to say the same thing. I also think Jan Shepherd was not being pro-Vietnam War. She just did not want people coming to her door asking her to join a protest when she was still grieving.
  23. I forgot another of my current favorites: Jamey Johnson.
  24. More traditional artists now in the mainstream: William Michael Morgan (dropped by his label however) Jon Pardi Luke Combs Mo Pitney (unfortunately, he's part of the Curb Records label...probably the worst in Nashville)- Scotty McCreery (dropped by UMG - then signed with an Indie - Triple Tigers. Best thing that could have happened.) Ashley McBryde Artists now seeming to find their way to radio play: Tyler Childers (saw him in Nashville - sort of bluegrass/country/Americana) Cody Jinks Sturgill Simpson (been around awhile....but getting more recognition by the general country community) Jason Isbell Margo Price
  25. Taylor Swift never really was country... just pop-country....then moved on to straight pop. I give her credit for cutting the ties so openly. I do enjoy some of Garth Brooks catalog....The Dance, If Tomorrow Never Comes, 'Til the Sun Comes Up, Friends in Low Places, etc. And I think he is a terrific showman. Why he was included IMO: as they said, he changed the expectations of record labels for financial success. They wanted that level of $$ return from every artist after that. They were no longer looking for new, promising acts...or even established artists that were not arena-level performers. As to Johnny Cash...I understand the Carter/Cash family providing a link through all the generations....but it went too far with the Johnny Cash portion of that theme IMO. They only had so many hours to tell the story of country music...so there are omissions, of course. Personally, I wish they would have spent less time on Garth Brooks and Johnny Cash...and given Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless and Don Williams some real on-screen time. But they did include a lot on Waylon, Vince, Dolly and Loretta....true greats. For the past 10-15 years, we've had to endure FGL, Sam Hunt, Thomas Rhett...and an endless supply of guys whose only appeal seems to be cute smiles and gym-rat bodies. And very little country music background.
