  1. I agreed with your entire post....but especially this paragraph. It took years to get that contract...with that new manager who was even tougher than the folks at RCA. I wished they had included the title song from the Dreamin' My Dreams with You. No one sang it with the poignancy that Waylon offered.
  2. The four in the Highwaymen group were Johnny, Willie, Kris and Waylon.
  3. As a die-hard country fan, I also am a PBS fan. And oddly, most of my friends fall into both categories. Is it possible Burns realized that true country fans would just love a chance to learn more about the genre they've followed for many years?
  4. Tonight features my favorite artists...Waylon. It really is not about the current country music at all.
  5. Billy Joe Royal and Johnny Rivers are probably considered too far into the pop genre to be included in this documentary. I know some of our favorites wont be included...impossible to feature them all. While I like Johnny Cash's music overall, I think they could have skipped a couple of the side clips (him singing that awful duet with Bob Dylan, which they showed a couple of times would be on example) and offered at least brief mentions of other great artists. One of my favorites was Don Williams. His career spanned decades...with many successful singles and albums...and plenty of awards. My theory they already had so many people from Texas highlighted, he fell in the cracks. His duet with Emmylou - If I Needed You - was just remarkable -- two beautiful voices blending so well: Also loved his Good Ole Boys Like Me. Another I wished had been mentioned more: Patty Loveless. But....they can't cover every artist. But my absolute favorite - Waylon --is getting his due.
  6. I also learned that the Cash biopic (Walk the Line) was even more inaccurate than I thought. Since I have PBS Passport, I am about about 1/3 of the way through episode 7. Will watch the rest of that episode tonight. However, I won't comment until next week when everyone has had a chance to see the entire documentary.
  7. Marty Stuart is a great entertainer. He organized a charity concert at the Ryman this past June. (Apparently, he's done it for several years.) One of the best live shows I've ever attended. Some of the artists: Old Crowe Medicine Show, Dierks Bentley, Sheryl Crow, Tyler Childers, Ricky Skaggs, Steve Miller,...plus many more bluegrass and Americana artists. Almost 4 hours....and I would have stayed a few more hours. Lots of stories as well as music. I figured he would be great on this documentary.
  8. Season 2 is available on Amazon Prime. Watched all 10 episodes in about 2 days. Very good.
  9. Yes, it was rude for Colin to throw the money on the counter...but I think Nicole throwing her money on the ground was far worse. (Brandon had the decency to pick it up and hand it to the driver.) Also, Nicole made the comment that their mosques were like Starbucks...one on every corner. I had forgotten that the Bowling Moms were taken aside by airport security -- after the taxi driver kept insisting on getting the fare. Sorry, Bowling Moms you should have clarified beforehand whether the service was free or not before hopping in your car.
  10. I just began rewatching this season. I spent much of the first episode calling out to my screen: that is MontayviDAYo...not Montee -video.
  11. Different strokes, etc. Yep, a few weak challenges....but most were tough and well-designed. I found Bates and Anthony funny -- and top racers. And I agree with the poster who found Connor's behavior (Conor? who cares) reprehensible. A couple of the early eliminations were surprising because they seemed to be promising competitors Overall, one of my favorite later races.
  12. I really disliked the Hippies...so have never rewatched the entire season...but the episodes I did rewatch reinforced my negative reaction to them. I felt they were phony throughout,
  13. I've often wondered how we could have a season of "normal" people -- when there are so many criteria for normal.
  14. Same here. OK, apparently there were texts quite a while back where she said they could go to rehab together, they needed help, etc. However, I think that was more proof of her wanting to establish power over him than a genuine desire to help him. What I found really appalling was her reaching out to his Mom and other family members after the suicide repeatedly offering condolences, etc....stressing she was his girlfriend. Plus, that charity event gave me the creeps....more attention-seeking b.s.
  15. I would be more comfortable with the God references....if they thanked God for giving her the strength/courage to endure her captivity and then escape.
  16. Actually, he also said Jayme was the hero -- that she was the one who had the courage to escape, find help, etc. While he (and his department) did not literally find her....they did spend months, never ceasing their search for her and any evidence. They kept the case in the public eye.
  17. I suspect James and Giles had totally different reactions to losing in their seasons. Hinch kept his sense of humor about it...while Giles apparently did not.
  18. Today is James Hinchcliffe's birthday. Just about my all time favorite celeb to appear on DWTS. I thought he and Sharna were a terrific team....and what great performances they created. Comparing Hinch to Sharna's last partner is painful. Neither Hinch nor Bobby had any dance experience at all...but that's where the similarity ends. Hinch loved to learn and spend many REAL hours rehearsing. He never went out on the dance floor unprepared, and brought joy and enthusiasm every night. Happy birthday, Hinch.
  19. Rachel tried to make it sound like the money was needed because they were going to be evicted from their apartment, etc. That was her ploy with the friend who eventually realized she was a liar, etc. anyway. She also conveniently was seen searching by that friend looking on line for jobs and other apartments....to stress how desperate they were. I believe it was for the "grander" wedding however.
  20. I think the two friends just decided that it was time for them to tell the full truth....because they both strongly believed Rachel was involved from the start. And I do believe the one friend who actually saw Dan with with Sam amd was witness to Dan's bringing home the $400 would have been killed if he'd gone back to their apartment. Apparently, after all the years of investigation, the motive was getting money to pay their apartment rent. Awful.
  21. I think you are unfairly lumping all country music fans into one generalized category. I am a staunch fan of that genre...and did not even consider voting for him. Yes, he had a huge block of fans who apparently did not care if he really learned to dance or not...and most did not even watch the show. BTW...Bobby backs (for the most part) music that is much more pop than country. They swallowed his story about working endless hours rehearsing...when, in fact, Sharna was doing the heavy lifting. She flew back and forth to Nashville constantly so that he could stay put in his hometown. Yes, he has an early morning radio show for a couple of hours each week day which he does in Nashville. He is hardly the first celeb who had to continue their work while doing the show....and most did not bitch nearly as much about it.
  22. At least they showed David's actual dance that night on the Jumbotron (during a rain delay)....so the fans in the stands actually understood that it was a DANCE competition. I don't think Bobby's fans cared one iota what the contest was...just that their "hero" won. The fact that most of Bobby's whining and nastiness was minimized during the packages...but emerged on his SM and radio show... proves only that TPTB were trying to create an image that made ABC happy. And, yes, I would guess most of Bobby's fans did not watch a minute of the show...nor will they in the future.
  23. Those two groups might not be torching Sharna.....but they are probably disgusted enough not to watch DWTS again...unles major changes are made.
  24. Bobby's fans got their wish: he won in spite of being a bad dancer, basically mocked the concept of actually learning, and left far better contestants having wasted their hard work. As many of us have said, we doubt 90% of Bobby's fans had ever watched the show before...and still haven't. Many long-time fans were truly disgusted by the outcome. And so were many casual fans...who enjoyed tuning in for the fun of watching a celeb learn to dance.
  25. I would suspect that 90% of the votes for Bobby were from fans who never watched the show the entire season. Bobby (his individual and show accounts) both tweeted the phone # constantly and instructed them on how to vote online. Every station that broadcasts his show did the same thing. Plus, there were people like Maddie Poppe (who I love) begging their fans to vote for him. And as others have posted, there were people on SM who never watched the show, but said Bobby should win because he promoted women, etc. DWTS was treated like one of those stupid polls stations post for listeners to vote for their favorite pizza, snack, whatever. I doubt many of the huge fanbase even considered for a moment that other contestants worked just as hard (if not harder), respected the show and their pro partners, and were actually FAR BETTER DANCERS. (P.S. If all of Bobby's fans were watching the show each week, wouldn't the ratings have reflected that?)
