  1. I was going to say the same thing. A professional show-dog handler told me she could groom four Wire Fox Terriers in the same time it took her to do one Airedale. I was thinking of that watching this episode, especially with the comments about "Gosh, so much hair," and "Drying all this hair is going to take the whole three hours." I had forgotten they showed the Valentine dog being dyed red all over. I was just disappointed that all it had was a heart on its butt and that's all. So much more could have been done. I was stumped about why that big white dog had a blue stomach. i think if I were the groomer, I would have incorporated that into my color scheme and not given a second full bath/blow dry. I like the before/after pictures but wish they would show the finished dogs more instead of so much judge and peanut gallery. I haven't heard Lisa say much more than she wishes she were being paid in dogs instead of dollars, and the other woman, I don't know if we've heard from her at all. Oh, wait: She did say the Tetris dog looked like an allergy test, so i guess we did hear from her. Everyone seems to be all about the Celebrity Groomer Judge though. I'd like to know what celebrity dogs he does groom. If it's Lisa's, he's got nothing to brag about.
  2. @Prevailing Wind, for some reason this Onion story made me think of you.
  3. I agree with this, but the show only let us see the fire ant dog for a split second. It had antenna and other attributes that made it more interesting and well done, we just weren't allowed to see them. I guess the judges just thought "fire ant, WTH is that" so sent that person home. I do like the one guy groomer (I can't tell them apart yet) who has a very nice hand with a dog when presenting his final groom. I can tell some of these people are also show-dog people.
  4. It is unfortunate that last night we were subjected to a very not funny opening vignette of Rebel waiting to pee on a fire hydrant. Has society progressed so far backward that anyone would find that remotely funny? I was disappointed about the losers who went home ... I couldn't remember any of her grooms so don't know if I agreed or not. I wish they would give a quick recap of the loser's grooms, show some fast photos as she walked out, so we could see why judges decided that way, and if we agree. The geometric groom, I didn't have a favorite, but I had to laugh at the rhombus groom because I had just heard this yesterday: "I was late for my geometry class, I got on the rhombus." I liked the Chinese New Year groom, and the Christmas Elf groom was good too, but the Halloween groom was indeed spectacular and deserved to win this entire competition and take home the $100,000. The others, not so much. Cinco de Mayo (my fav holiday) was disappointing as were so many others. I'm getting a kick out of the one groomer's son (I think he is) flirting with Rebel. For anyone thinking some of these contestants are OTT or "extra," while I don't know these people personally, I know many, many people just like them in the dog show world. These people aren't making it up, that's how they really are. And I love them for it.
  5. Aaron Rodgers is getting some very special press coverage.
  6. Once again Toot Toot Tuesday has rolled around, and it's my pleasure to shine the FJ Contest spotlight on the Master Contest Player known as PERFECT @M. Darcy, the only player to score a Perfect Five this week. M.Darcy did it twice before, but that was way back in weeks 9 and 16, so to be the only one to top the score in Week 29 was an achievement indeed. Congratulations and use those bragging rights for as long as you wish. You earned it! And you also earned this trophy. Or at least your smarty brain did! (Honorable mention goes to @theartandsound for an amazing consecutive SIX WEEKS, yes SIX WEEKS ! in a row of the same score. Outstanding -- if not mind boggling!)
  7. No. I don't remember sackbut being a TS in any of its previous appearances. When it first appeared, we had a long discussion here about it. That could have been as many as three or four seasons ago. But I don't remember it being a TS until yesterday. I believe one time it was the clue and the answer was trombone. That was "before your time," shapeshifter! Of course, my mind is like a trap door ... sometimes it's open and things fall out. You are one of the Old Crocks here, Clanstarling. Sackbut should have been easy for you!
  8. Any long-time poster here who missed the TS of sackbut hasn't been paying attention since sackbut has made multiple appearances on this show over the past several seasons. For a minute I thought the show might have been trolling us with Dr. Oz being the FJ answer.
  9. Excellent story @j5cochran and worthy of a GFY. So, GFY!
  10. However, this show does offer an explanation for where Lizzie is/went.
  11. I have a dog named Buddy. But then, who doesn't.
  12. Don't hate me that this made me laugh. More than once. Excellent story, @bybrandy. Thanks.
  13. To make some of you players feel better ... I didn't even know Mary Poppins was a book. Monday = fail. Tuesday = I actually answered that one right away. Yeay me, back at the T41! Wednesday = What, that's a freaking LOGO? But again, who knew Glaser ran Push Pin Studio. Extra credit doesn't count, so sad. Thursday = I thought antidisestablishmentarianism was some fake-o word like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious -- shout out to Monday's clue! so I pulled Nazi out of the air, even though that was a decade later. At least I wrote down something for everyone to make fun of. Friday = What? WHO? There was a Jimmie Angel? Who knew. Maybe his brother Johnny did. ("Johnny Angel, how I love him He's got something that I can't resist ...") And that should make everyone's day a bit brighter. Happy Easter to everyone who observes that. Happy Sunday to everyone else.
  14. Good news/bad news: Not to harsh your mellow, but I have you down for asterisks in Weeks 4 and 17.
  15. Hopefully, the coming week will be kinder to you with a Happy Cheesehead Host. Unless you are a Bears fan, then you are doomed once again. Me, I am comfortably back at the T41.
  16. And right away I think the singer Pink, I love her. Except she was born in 1979. Where does the time go! Did you get to see Frijid Pink?
  17. WEEK 29 • March 29, 2021 — TWO asterisk ** 141. Authors: Book to Screen. Horrified by the 1964 movie musical from her work, she okayed a U.K. stage version as long as “no Americans” were involved. 142. American History. While performing in Philadelphia, the future father of this man sent a letter threatening to slit Andrew Jackson’s throat. *143. Logos. After 9/11, designer Milton Glaser modified this iconic logo of his, adding a bruise & the words “more than ever.” * *144. Antidisestablishmentarianism. A real-life antidisestablishmentarian, William Bridgeman opposed the 1920 disestablishment of this in Wales. * 145. Eponymous Landmarks: In 1960 the ashes of this aviator were spread over the Venezuela natural wonder he famously sighted decades earlier.
  18. Wow PW, what a great story. I didn't know any of that (well, except that Julie married David). So I looked up the photo and did some reading about that Miami event. I'm not sure if politics were covered so much back then or they just weren't in my area of thinking. People went to vote and that was about all the political talk there was in my world. I had no idea Nixon was an outright racist. So yeah, that photo went around the world. How exciting you were there to see it. I got a laugh that the free lunch was KFC. That at least is a step up from Trump-era White House catered dinners. KFC is delicious! I found the photo. It's credited to AP, but no photographer's name. Those were the days of Speed Graflex 4x5 cameras. It was a one-shot-and-you-got-it (or not) so those photogs had to be good. Thanks for a great story. So fun and interesting!
  19. That Julie married David or that @laredhead is the same age?
  20. Okay, this made me LOL and I am still LOL-ing as I type this.
  21. You're killin' me Clan, killin' me I say!
  22. Yes, California writers. Like the ones who wrote the plot of the X-Files movie that centered around bees pollinating corn.
  23. I live in tornado land so was positive that was the answer. Trailer parks are tornado magnets, and those mobile homes are always sucked off their foundations and demolished. Always. So that was a no brainer for me, I was stunned it was not tornado, which means it had to be hurricane. Earthquake ... eh, who knew.
  24. Totally agree. And they weren't the least bit distracting for me, I found them fascinating. A while back another contestant (I think he made it to ToC) would "write" his answers or do figuring in the air in front of him. I posted at that time that he fascinated me, I loved watching him. I feel the same about Bryce. As someone posted at TJF, the FedEx "joke" is stale. Beyond stale IMO.
  25. NOOoo! Say it ain't so, Joe! Danged Chicago radio host spreading fake information. Sending email correction to WGN morning host now. Thanks Browncoat. Eh. I think.
