Are You The One? - General Discussion
zenithwit replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Are You The One?
Here is the official trailer for the upcoming season. Seems like they are trying to reign in the trashiness (which is a shame). -
I think what's going to happen is that Discovery+ and HBO Max will merge into one steaming platform. In the meantime, it looks like they are adding content from Discovery+ to HBO Max (and probably vice versa). Trixie Motel was probably an obvious candidate to add to HBO Max since HBO Max has had success with other shows featuring Drag queens (like We're Here). Back to the motel: my favorite room hands down was the Pink Flamingo room. This may be an unpopular opinion but I wasn't crazy about the honey bee honeymoon suite. Don't get me wrong, it was totally Trixie's aesthetic and fit the rest of the motel but... it didn't really feel like a room like I would want to spend my honeymoon in.

Finally caught this gem on HBO Max (thank you Warner Bros Discovery merger?) and really enjoyed it. Has anyone else watched this show?

Just finished the first four episodes and so far, I'm liking this season better than last season. My favorites so far are Raven (& Paris) and the British comedian dude. I kinda like that they are all playing single - it creates an even playing field in its own way. But it also weird how everyone was assumed to be straight. Clearly Grandpa Brittney got the boot because he wasn't willing or able to portray his daughter in a flirty/thirsty light. I really like Paris' interpretation style with Raven. You can tell that the way he speaks matches exactly what she is saying. Plus I love that they are BFF's. The hug towards the end of the first episode was so sweet.

Legendary has been canceled 😥 It was probably a result of the Warner Bros Discovery merger. https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/legendary-canceled-hbo-max-1235452027/

I think there is tension between Cameron and Daphne about their kids, specifically childcare. While the traumatic birth of their second child clearly bonded them, it's also clear that Cameron does not do much with their kids. Daphne more or less said that before they went into the child birth story. Plus, Daphne has been shown multiple times trying to check in with their kids while Cameron could care less and actually diverts Daphne's attention. Side note: it was kinda creepy how Cameron initially tried to claim Daphne's experience as his own even as a joke. I feel like something like that would bother the bubbliest person.

From what I can tell, "streetwear" is making basic clothes not basic? But in this show, that seems to manifest itself in a collection of oversized shirts, hoodies and pants. Not sure why there aren't more dresses and skirts in the mix. Though I did laugh in the first episode when they were stressed about only having 30 minutes to get ready. I'm lucky if I have 30 minutes to get ready some mornings. I finished the first three episodes and Offset seems kinda quiet so far. There were a couple of times that I forgot he was there. Maybe he was intimidated by Law Roach? (Who was an awesome guest judge) But so far I'm digging the challenges and I like the look book concept (vs last season's "Surprise! Your eight disjointed looks are now your finale collection! You have two extra looks to try and make it cohesive "). Hopefully the show will give the finalists this season some extra time/money to fix any hiccup looks in their lookbook. It's a bit of a bummer that three female contestants have already gone home - especially when there were so few to begin with. As for Vell, the show was fairly vague on why he was kicked off. They tried to make it look like he was in a physical altercation but I would be willing to bet that it was some technicality (like patterning in the hotel room, etc).

Woah! Calling the three other people who actually watched this show... somehow this show actually got a second season and the first three episodes are available on HBO Max. I have no idea how I missed that.

I love it. Bring on one of Larry King's older children (who are in their 50s/60s). That would be hilarious to see. Better yet bring on one of Larry King's older kids AND one of his younger kids (who are like in their early 20s) and watch the other contestants try to figure out that family. Actually, having two contestants related to the same person could be an interesting twist. Could led to some interesting strategies.

But if they managed to tie Lark to Kaia Gerber, wouldn't the next logical step be to think of Cindy Crawford? I mean I'm not sure Kaia would be as well known if it wasn't for her parents (and her mother in particular). I'm clearly wayyy older than the contestants but I have a hard imagining a world where they know who Kaia Gerber is but not her mother.

I don't think Manti is complicit either in the hoax. I genuinely believe that he was that naive and gullible. Now how could someone be that naive and gullible? That's a lingering question along with how could the media be that naive and gullible? It's crazy to think that not one reporter before the Deadspin article didn't think to google Lennay. We all know that the NFL sucks but it was frustrating to see how Manti's perceived sexuality impacted his career prospects- especially considering some of the people the NFL has opted to keep on its payroll. The media was pretty terrible on this topic as well. Regardless of the NFL shenanigans, I'm guessing Manti made decent enough money for himself and his family. Though i did feel for Manti about how his playing style changed after joining the NFL and how he lost that spark and determination on the field. That must tough for him to realize that he peaked professionally in college and no longer possessed that unbridled potential.

Logan: This palm leaf cowboy hat is the most obvious clue so far. Me: There's different types of cowboy hats??? I guess cowboy hats having different varieties is obvious but it just shows how far removed I am from the country scene. And it appears the other contestants are in a similar boat. It's pretty telling that they've almost figured out Pepper's relative before Logan's.

I think you're on to something. We know the celebrity relatives of the other three (Amara, LC and Louise) because they've already been revealed to us on the show (and Louise is a complete carbon copy of Simone). But maybe one or two of the other will be revealed in the next couple of episodes? Then we would have a mixed bag of some known and some unknown relatives going into the finale. I'm curious if they intentionally casted people connected to one celebrity relative. I'm not sure how they would handle someone from a celebrity family like Frankie Jonas. If Frankie was a contestant and not a host, he would have three well-known relatives (plus two very famous sister-in-laws). Would the show pick one or be like nah, all of your brothers are fair game?

Vampires Never Get Old: First Kill In The Media
zenithwit replied to Cranberry's topic in First Kill
Damn, that sucks. I thought this universe had a lot of potential but the show did a poor job showing/explaining it. Also, some of the acting performances were a bit rough. Maybe someone else will take a stab at adapting this story/universe at a later point? It would be cool to see the history and all of the different types of monsters laid out more clearly. -
S02.E01: I’m Coming Out: First Time in Drag
zenithwit replied to peachmangosteen's topic in RuPaul's Celebrity Drag Race
I could see Electra Owl being Kelly Ripa from a physique point of view. But I thought Kelly Ripa would be a bit nicer? I don't know. Also, Electra Owl was kinda stiff onstage and only had like 2 dance moves. Kelly is a seasoned performer so I would think she would be a bit more smooth onstage. Isn't Bethenny Frankel also super petite? Honestly, she was the first person I thought of when I saw Electra Owl but I wasn't sure if the face matched. But Bethenny would totallllllly be that shady to the judges. -

I had no idea that this was getting another season. So that's cool. Not sure I'm crazy about format but whatever, I can roll with it for now. When they started talking about all 9 celebrity queens performing, I thought we were almost going to get a regular season of Drag Race with workroom scenes, mini and maxi challenges and runway categories. But instead we got this weird Masked Singer rip off. Oh well... I thought Fabulosity/Loretta Devine did a better job embodying her character than some of the other queens. But maybe she was eliminated first due to the choreography limitations? (Plus it looks like next week is a dance focused challenge). I got strong Real Housewives vibes from her. I don't really watch those shows so I'm not sure which one but only a housewife would be willing to shade Ru that hard on her own show (which was hilarious btw). -
Indian Matchmaking - General Discussion
zenithwit replied to Mercolleen's topic in Indian Matchmaking
I'm only 4 episodes into season 2 but yeah, I hate to report that there's a lot of "here for the wrong reasons" going on. But the show isn't helping. They changed their format from focusing on Sima, her clients and their potential matches to your stereotypical reality show - at least with the older season 1 clients. Honestly, if Sima isn't trying to find them a match, I don't care. If they want to do updates on prior clients, they can have a dedicated episode or do a reunion show. Definitely agree on the cultural divide but I think both systems have the same end goal, just different methodologies. Both sides want to end up with a loving partner that they can spend every day with and potential start a family. But Sima's matchmaking/"arranged" marriage (not sure how relevant that term is nowadays), focuses on the more transactional nature of marriage and participants are expected to make a decision about marriage after one or two conversations. While the Western system does emphasize an initial physical attraction, it also gives more autonomy to the individuals actually in the relationship (i.e. not your parents) and allows you to learn from your mistakes. Though it does tend to get over-romanticized. (Soul mates, Prince Charming, etc). But it's not surprising that the Western participants are struggling with Sima and her matchmaking methods. It's hard to give up that autonomy. Though it would be hilarious if someone was actually honest with Sima and was like "sorry Sima Aunty but I just don't want to suck his d*** for the rest of my life". -

In a country like India, a million people would be considered a small city. India has at least 4 or 5 cities that are the size of NYC and several more in 5 - 10 million range. Plus, they heavily implied in the show that Nashik has a history of a more conservative culture. Which probably means that a wife would be expected to take on a more traditional role in the household. Now maybe the culture is changing in Nashik and Akshay wouldn't necessarily have those expectations but it may still be enough for several women to prefer to be in a larger, more progressive metropolitan area (especially when one like Mumbai is nearby). -
Instant Dream Home - General Discussion
zenithwit replied to CountryGirl's topic in Instant Dream Home
Just watched the first episode. Danielle felt more like a cheerleader than a team leader and she clearly only showed up for the makeover day. I recognized Adair from his other Netflix show with his husband and Paige from ANTM (pretty cool that she shifted into more carpentry/interior design). Overall, this fits the bill for a sappy, feel good background show but I can only imagine the corners they were cutting to get everything done in a day. -
How To Build A Sex Room - General Discussion
zenithwit replied to zenithwit's topic in How To Build A Sex Room
I'm now 7 episodes in and all of the spaces (while still beautiful) are starting to look the same to me. I think "sexy Vegas" (the term Melanie Rose used for one couple) fits her design aesthetic very well. It makes me wonder how much the redesigns will help or hurt the resale value of the home because a "sexy Vegas" room would definitely stand out in most houses. Maybe for the rooms that are more separated from the rest of the house (basement, shed, etc) it won't make much of a difference. But the master bedrooms and the porch would definitely stand out in a listing. Speaking of the porch/back room with the stripper pole... did she actually black out the windows there or was that just some sort of black cloth/curtain used just for the reveal? If they are actors, they're definitely bad actors. The awkwardness and stiffness that most of the couples had actually made me think that they were real couples. They're talking about really intimate stuff in front of a camera which not going to be easy for everyone. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the poly family were all actors. There seemed like a lack of connection in-between everyone. Actually, they seemed to all be connected to the first chick we met so maybe they are all her partners and they kinda played up the "family" aspect for the show? Yeah for someone promoting the types of kinks that require a lot of communication and boundary-setting beforehand, she sure seemed to ignore those very important pre-requisites. It definitely doesn't help with stereotypes around those kinks. I had a ton of respect for the couple who were very explicit that they didn't want any kink stuff, they just wanted a beautiful space. -
I think you are 100% correct. When Kai said the white dress was the clue, I thought it was completely obvious who her relative was. That white dress (the one her relative wore) did make the rounds on several high profile events. I think she even wore it when she was hosting some event (maybe it was the Oscars?). Part of it was social commentary on how celebrities pay so much money to wear a garment once and part of it was that she looked and felt good in the dress so why not wear it more than once. It's actually kinda suspect that Dom was so wrong on this. It makes me wonder if she intentionally misled Brittany. Though I guess they would have shown that if that was the case.
