I don't know what it is about Justin, but I just cannot stand him, and I'm afraid that the previouslytv staffer who wrote the initial article about All Stars and claimed that TPTB will have Justin crowned the winner of this season, was correct. Alyssa even referred to Justin tonight as the "comeback kid" and he's getting a lot of screen time in the talking heads. I liked him well enough on his season, but never thought he designed anything especially original then. With this All Stars show, I feel pretty much the same way about his designs...some have been good, but most have been forgettable or something one can already buy. Tonight was no exception, while the straps on his swimsuit were nicely placed and the blue cover up had a nice stripe in the fabric, I felt like it wasn't anything I haven't seen before. I liked Sonji's tonight although I agreed with Isaac that the top of the cover up didn't need those wide denim panels. I hate a bandeau bikini top, but I did like the zig zag black across the top of her swimsuit. It drew the eye up and balanced out the boy cut bottom. It was very unique and original looking. I would have given the win to Dimitry with Sonji in 2nd place and Justin in 3rd. Dimitry still hasn't won a challenge? That seems deliberate on the judges part considering how many times he's been in the top. His swimsuit had the best fit of any of the swimsuits. It wasn't too low cut, and it covered her bottom and stayed in place, and I've not seen one like it before. How can Zanna be a mentor? If she picks her own clothing to wear on the show, than I wouldn't let her near a fashion magazine. Her clothing choices make Alyssa's look brilliant. At least Alyssa has the excuse of being very pregnant.

Loved the episode even though I'm way too old to be a NKOTB fan. As a mom who also had a hard time getting rid of any of my childrens' "art", I could totally relate to Beverly. My husband thinks its bad that I have several plastic storage containers full of old drawings, report cards, handmade birthday cards, etc. I should tell him he should be glad I didn't rent out a storage facility! I had to laugh when Adam narrates at the beginning of the episode..."new kids on the block--the original boy band." I think the Osmond Brothers and Jackson 5 might disagree with him on that one!

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
lark37 replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
Yikes, I used to LOVE this show and barely watched SYTTD Atlanta since I couldn't stand the goofy interchanges between Lori and Monty, but now I've done a 180. Whenever a bride comes into Kleinfelds and says I have a budget of $5k or up, they immediately pull out the hideous Pnina gowns. SYTTD Atlanta shows brides many different designers regardless of budget, and they seem to have cut back on the Lori/Monty cornball shtick. I am so sick of Pnina and Mark Zunino gowns! Aren't there any other big name designers who allow their bridal gowns to be sold at Kleinfelds? I personally love Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta's bridal gowns. I don't think Kleinfelds carries their gowns or Monique Lullihier another designer who's gowns I really love. I see more of a variety of bridal gown designers work on Something Borrowed when they shop for something new than I do on SYTTD and definitely see more variety of designer's work on I Found the Gown. Plus, as much as I enjoy Randy, I'm really getting tired of him being involved with every bride. Remember back when Diane, Sarah, Camille, Jessica, and the one (oh shoot, I've forgotten her name Audrey maybe?) got to do more than go get Randy for advice? I'm about to stop watching this one and stick with SYTTD Atlanta, I Found the Gown, and Something Borrowed. This makes me sad :( -
Agree about the skirt of the new gown. The top of it was lovely and very vintage 60's, but the bottom was like a modern mermaid gown but out of vintage looking satin. It looked like two different gowns stuck together. I thought the borrowed gown was one of the prettiest ones Kelly has produced, but then I'm a sucker for a bridal gown with sleeves! I'm sure the unevenness was fixed before the wedding. They didn't show any video or photos of the actual wedding for that one did they? I think Kelly only has a limited amount of time to redo the borrowed dress. I noticed last season that sometimes when they would show the actual wedding if the bride chose the borrowed dress, there would be slight alterations from how it was on the show. I thought the Hawaiian bride would choose the new gown, but after seeing how the borrowed one looked on the beach, I think she chose wisely.

Death Comes To Pemberley - General Discussion
lark37 replied to photo fox's topic in Death Comes To Pemberley
Matthew Rhys is a terrific actor in my opinion. His portrayals of Edwin Drood and the main character in The Scapegoat were excellent, and he gets rave reviews from critics for his role as an Russian/American spy on The Americans. I think the problem with this production was that the leads were ten years older than they should have been and had no chemistry together. Call me shallow but, but as others have said, I don't get Anna Maxwell Martin's appeal at all. She seems to be a good actress and likely a wonderful person, but she's not attractive enough to be a sidekick character in most films/TV let alone be given the hard to live up to role of Elizabeth Bennett. These two actors had about as much chemistry as my dog and my neighbor's cat. Also, I agree about Lizzie's clothes and styling. She didn't look any different in styling from Louisa who supposed to be her housemaid. I haven't read this particular PD James book, although I'm a huge mystery fan and have read several of her other books. I'll definitely not be reading this one. I actually hate any author's attempts to recreate the world of Jane Austen. There's another series of mysteries set in the P&P world that I have deliberately avoided for that reason. I was looking forward to this, though, because of my love for period productions and Matthew Rhys and Matthew Goode, but this production was very disappointing and a waste of the talents of all involved. -
There is no concrete eveidence that drinking alcohol while pregnant causes miscarriages or birth defects. Lots of women have a drink or two before realizing they are pregnant with no harmful results. Mary had a miscarriage because . . . Mary, Queen of Scots, did not have any children by Francis. I knew as soon as Mary said she was pregnant that she would lose the child somehow. While they mess around quite a bit with history, I was pretty sure they wouldn't change that fact because Mary's first child, James, by her next husband, succeeded Queen Elizabeth I and became King James I of England. If she'd had a child first by the King of France, it would have changed not only the history of Scotland and England, but also the history of France. I think I'm done with this show. I was intrigued by it last season as I love historical fiction. But, they boxed themselves into a corner. They can only do so many things with the storyline without as I said above, changing history. Therefore, they are having to focus too much on fictional characters like Mary's ladies in waiting and their love lives. They probably should have set the series in the same time period but in a fictional kingdom (like GOT) so that they could do whatever they wanted with Francis and Mary and not had to adhere to the real characters and their history. Hope all of you enjoy watching it though! I'll just stop in here once in awhile to get updated :)

As someone who was bulemic in my teens, I'm very sensitive to the subject of eating disorders. As a music teacher, I work mainly with children 8-14. I see many girls (and a few boys too) as young as 9 or 10 that are way too self conscious about their weight. Children as young as 7-8 are now struggling with body image and eating disorders. When Deb and Hannah chose to be on this television program, they knew they would be exposing much of their lives to a national audience. I think its very brave of Hannah to admit something that is so painful and in some peoples' view, shameful. From what we've seen of Hannah and her personality, I think she must truly think that telling others about her problem might help those who have the same problem. What I do question is whether or not the pageant world is a good place to inhabit if struggling with an eating disorder. Models and dancers are high risk for eating disorders, and since pageants emphasize physical beauty and oftentimes feature swimsuit competitions, if I were Hannah's parents, I would perhaps steer her away from a competitive world where staying thin is important.

S21.E09: The Guy Who Wows Betsey Johnson
lark37 replied to Tara Ariano's topic in America's Next Top Model [V]
So true! A few weeks back Mirjana was wearing a large-brimmed black hat at judging, and I remember thinking Tyra would make her take it off and give her a lecture on "looking like a model.". But, I guess I was thinking of the Tyra from ten seasons ago and how she used to make them remove it if they wore inappropriate clothing or too much makeup to judging. I've noticed Tyra always ups her score for Mirjana if Kelly and Miss Jay score her too low. It has been so obvious that Tyra wanted to keep the drama of Mirjana and Denzel. Now that Denzel is gone, let's see how Mirjana gets scored next week. Maybe, if we're lucky, we'll see the last of her. -

I agree. While I think Denzel's comments were stupid, they were not made directly to Will, and if Will had such a hard time growing up in a conservative town in Texas, you would think he would have developed a thicker skin by now and be totally used to people talking about him. Tyra was right (definitely a sentence rarely written) about Denzel's attitude towards the LGBT community being a problem in the industry he's trying to be a part of though. He needs to work on that attitude big time. But, Will needs to stop with the sob stories about how rough it was for him growing up too. Its not like he's the first openly gay contestant on ANTM or on TV in general. I'm tired of hearing about it in every talking head - own who you are Will and move on. Also, did Kari ever have a chance at all once she got that awful brassy blonde hair and brows? Tyra completely did her in with that makeover. And, Mirjana is just gross! I felt sorry for Raelia. I didn't think her photo was that bad. -
After last week's episode, I posted that if producers were going to turn Kim of Queens into another Dance Moms by having Angie and Marah leave and come back, leave and come back, etc that I would stop watching. This is the second episode after Kim letting them go that Angie and Marah have come back in some way. I'm going to give it another episode or two before bailing especially as I realized after posting last week that Angie/Marah may have some sort of contractual agreement to the show to fulfill. As much as I despise Angie, I have to agree with her regarding Addison's new and improved dance--it was truly terrible! My favorite moment of this episode was when Addison in her talking head, imitated the freeze model's pageant talent, then said "what the what?!" That had me rolling. Addison continues to amaze me with how beautiful and poised she is in the pageants compared to how she is any other time. That girl's a born actress but I'm wishing there was less focus on her and the "new girl of the week" and more of the pageant place regulars like Hannah.

Agree completely that this show is too heavily produced this season. After watching Dance Moms the first couple of seasons, I quit watching when it became obvious that all of the drama over Kelly leaving and taking her girls and getting angry with Abby was producer driven. Its not like its difficult these days to look things up on the internet and find out who is really winning these dance competitions or pageants. The producer/writer driven storylines are so unnecessary. One of the reasons I enjoyed Kim of Queens last season was because not only is Kim the total opposite of Abby Lee Miller and genuinely seems to care about these girls and wants to help them win pageants, but I didn't see as much manufactured drama in the show. Oh I know that Addison wasn't really a newbie to the pageant world and that her redneck personality was being played up for the cameras and that much of the Allysin schtick was written in, but it didn't feel so obviously manipulated as Dance Moms or Project Runway. Now, I'm truly seeing the heavy handed manipulation of Lifetime in the show. Kim & Co coaching the girls is entertaining enough for me. I truly hope that we don't ever have to see Marah and Angie again, but I fear we will and it will be Dance Moms and Kelly all over again. If that happens, I'm out.
