  1. I loved the episode, but there was definitely some dialogue that I missed. Didn't Diana say on either twitter or facebook that some of the missing dialogue would turn up in later scenes? I agree that "there's the two of us now"is one of the best lines of the series. It needs to be on the show but I can wait.
  2. On the show, he's 23 but IRL Sam is 30. I'm 33 so I'm fine with it. I think I'm ruined for other fictional boyfriends. Darcy who?
  3. I literally just read the part of the book where Geillis tells Claire she controlled it through a blood sacrifice. Or at least that's what she believes.
  4. Thanks for the recs Medieval Girl. For me, I am generally interested in whether or not women get to do anything interesting. That's why I love Outlander so much! As for the referendum IDK. This could be only the beginning. Maybe I'm cynical, but I heard about sovereignty association and distinct societies way too much in my youth.
  5. LOL. I haven't gotten to that part yet, but it sounds worth keeping.
  6. Funniest tweet about the referendum tonight goes to Bob McKenzie, the king of hockey Twitter.https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/512818257070272512 I can't believe Bob McKenzie watches Outlander.
  7. Haha. Me either. I know what Jamie wants to give Claire.

Not yet, but training camps are starting soon which means we're that much closer to the start of the season. You can look at demographics all you want, but I'll never believe a time will come when hockey is not the #1 sport anywhere in Canada. As far as the Leafs effect goes, I think it's a problem in other markets too. I know it was in Vancouver for those two years when the Canucks were actually good. Now they can't sell tickets because Vancouver is not Toronto and they refuse to drop ticket prices. I can't believe ten years ago I was going to games for $30 or $40!
  9. You may be right about that. If so, they should have cast better because this show really is on the shoulders of Claire/Jamie. If either of those characters don't work this thing is dead in the water.
  10. And yet OTOH there are all the posts in the episode thread about Jamie and Claire getting married being stupid and contrived because Outlander is just a bodice ripper. I guess you really can't please everyone. I loved episode 106, but I still wish Jamie's character was more developed at this point. He's supposed to be the male lead, but BJR, Frank and Dougal are all more developed than Jaime.
  11. Wow. I thought they would go there but it sounds like they are really going to go there. I don't know if I can watch that. I mean, the flogging was bad enough. It also sounds like the mid season cliffhanger is BJR recapturing Claire during her aborted run toward Craig Na Dun.
  12. Protecting Claire is hardly Dougal's main concern here. By marrying her off to Jamie it ensures Jamie will be no threat to the McKenzie lairdship. It also means Claire cannot spill the beans about Dougal's traitorous Jacobite activities. Yes, it does protect Claire from BJR but that's hardly Dougal's primary concern.
  13. I loved the Lallybroach scenes too, but I don't they are necessary to advance the plot. Plotwise, the only important thing of note is Jamie's capture. I agree that the end of the book will be condensed, but at least one episode will be devoted to events at Wentworth prison. Which is going to be really hard to watch.
  14. Considering how gut wrenching the flogging scene was . . . how are we all going to survive the events at the end of book? Yeash. Poor Jamie indeed.
  15. Some of language/tone was a bit strong. Hopefully we're reaching that agree to disagree point and we can all move on to talking about something else. Of course if you really need to vent, that's what PMs are for.
  16. Although I am enjoying the show, the line for the We hate Ron Moore starts behind me. I do not trust the man. As far as not liking Claire goes, I don't think that is as unpopular as you think.I know a lot of people who read the book hated Claire.
  17. Jamie is supposed to be 22 and Claire 28. More than that, Claire is just more worldly having been a WW2 nurse. I think right now when she looks at Jamie she sees the boys who were her patients during the war.
  18. It just occurred to me today that the timing was all wrong for all the Robert Ford/Rob Ford jokes that could have been made. So close, yet so far away!
  19. For me, I was basically muttering this through the entire episode. As soon as she started making up her story, I KNEW Black Jack would ask for his name. This level of intensity is kind of what I was expecting from the show and yes it kind of descends into torture porn. However, I thought they did an excellent job of developing Black Jack's character and though he is terrifying and loathsome, I felt like I understood him. I didn't hate him any less but he was not a caricature. As much as I love Game of Thrones, I don't think the viewers ever get the same level of character development (outside of Tyrion of course). There are horrible people, but I don't understand why they are so horrible. Here, I do. They really hit it out of the ballpark when they cast Tobias Menzies in this role. Also, I did not find the depiction of the British to be heavy handed. It was this kind of cultural superiority that led them into colonial endeavors into the 20th century. I thought their reaction to the Highlanders was totally believable. It was, if anything, worse about one hundred years later during the scramble for Africa but I suppose that is another topic for another day. As for Claire, I admire her outspokenness. For one, it is something of a character flaw and keeps her from being totally perfect. For another, as someone who tends to keep her mouth shut and her opinions to herself I wish I was more like her. At times I feel like something of an Outlander myself. Claire lived through World War Two and knows about the Holocaust. There are greater danger to one's personal to safety if you keep your mouth shut. As an aside, I watched the latest video from ISIS about five minutes before watching this show. It probably influenced my viewing somewhat. The more things change, the more they stay the same. All those English teachers I had during High School who were harping on Man's Inhumanity to Man were onto something. But! Instead of ending this on a downer, Claire and Jamie. YES! This is when the good stuff starts happening. Jamie being a virgin and Claire wanting MORE ALCOHOL NOW PLEASE were perfect. I am so here for this. I'm also giving myself a mental pat on the back for understanding all of the French spoken in this episode. All of those years of reading cereal boxes actually paid off!
  20. Yeah. The moment Jamie said, "Well, then. I suppose that means you're coming with me," I squealed his name. At a pitch only dogs and 12 year old girls can hear.
  21. I keep getting video unavailable for the second clip. :(

Putting a second team in Toronto is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard of. The Leafs are pretty brutal, but they have the most loyal fans in the league. They aren't going to suddenly abandon an original six team for something new and shiny. Although, it's still a better idea than another team in the desert. Seattle and Quebec City are the only places I could see possibly working out. In general, however, I don't think the sport is popular enough outside of Canada to merit expansion.
  23. I would also sincerely hope that a television program wouldn't influence how someone votes. What a horrifying thought! I wonder how much most English people care about this vote. I know whenever there was a referendum in Canada I would get horribly upset about the thought of the country breaking up.
  24. "Dougal proposes a solution to a problem." Yes. I am so ready for this.
