Season 3, basically. I thought Dean was his happiest in a long time for much of season 8 (although now I realize they were building him up to tear him down), but many fans kept saying Dean had become a "housewife," so I wonder if fan response will ever allow Dean or Sam to not just drown in angst. Jensen and Misha can sing, and Mark can too, but it's going to be one of those moments that is going to be seen as shark-jumping, because it's so difficult to pull off. I didn't even like the Buffy one all that much. It's funny, because I've heard fans saying for years that they want this, yet I have a feeling they're probably going to tear it apart. The part that interests me most is about this person who is following Dean and Crowley. I wonder if it will be a hunter.

Television Vs. Book: Why'd They Make [Spoiler] Such A [Spoiler]?

I think part of the problem is that Jaime is not really that much of a character within the Lannister family unit, at least on the show. He certainly should be, but other than a few scenes with Tyrion near the end of the season, I felt like there was a disconnect in all of his interactions with everyone. One of the few times I felt something outside of the finale with Tyrion was his last scene with Cersei, and then early in the season, when Joffrey was humiliating him. The show sees Jaime as a good guy, but they don't seem to know how to write him as such. To them that means cardboard. And then there's the sept scene which has been dug up so many times that Aerys Targaryen will probably awake to haunt us all if I bring it up again, but...yeah. The end was chilling, and so impeccably acted. The leadup and the moment where Catelyn saw Roose's armor was also great. I think the whole thing with Talisa's stabbing was so terribly done that it took away a lot of the power. -
I know it will go next but I just can't vote against it. He's so far at the back of the photo I couldn't tell a huge difference. It reminds me of his early season 6 hair.

I meant the whole, "Sam saves the day because Gordon runs after them and the cops arrest him/stolen stuff is put in his car" ending. It just didn't jive for me.

To me that isn't sex, that's sexual assault. The show has always blurred that line (for instance, a lot of fans were turned on by the Dean/Abaddon scene where she held his head and spoke to him about possession), but I never took it as anything but power and violence. I don't think the show is going to have Dean do that, because demon or not, this is still Dean, and I don't think they would have Dean raping women. What worries me is that the show won't see the line and will sell Dean coercing a woman into sex as being hot.

Sam had his share of sex. It's just that the show got into the silly habit of implying that if Sam was having sex that meant something was wrong with him or he was going down a dark path (this started in season 4). That meant by the time of Soulless Sam, they were stuck on how to make him wilder than Sam was in season 4...and as a result they gave awful cliches like a prostitute refusing to take Sam's money. I'm disappointed they're going to have Dean having sex as a sign of the demon's wickedness because again I fear they will not know how to do it. I'm so afraid they will create a scene that looks like rape, even if they insist it's not.

Demons on this show aren't about sex, drinking, and drugs (most of the main demons on the show were rarely interested in any of these things, aside from rape threats) as much as they're about torture and death and finding pure joy in torture and death. That's what Dean would fear most.

The Winds Of Winter: Book 6 Will Arrive...Someday
PeteMartell replied to GreyBunny's topic in A Song Of Ice And Fire
I don't have all that much interest in Jon's ties to the Targaryens, but I want him to live because he's one of the only characters left who still has a Stark identity, and because for all the talk of how boring or annoying he is, I think they need one generally decent male character in a major role. I know the idea to many is that Tyrion is a sweetheart and the main hero, but I just don't see him that way. -

Television Vs. Book: Why'd They Make [Spoiler] Such A [Spoiler]?
PeteMartell replied to yellowfred's topic in Game Of Thrones
I haven't read all of the books yet, but I've read most of the first one, and I can't say I remember Catelyn being staunchly anti-vengeance. She didn't go after Tyrion because of vengeance, per se - she was backed into a corner when he recognized her at the Twins, and before that she just wanted to make sure her son and family were safe - but vengeance was definitely part of the process. I also remember reading that she wanted Theon brutally murdered for what he did to Bran and Rickon, whereas Robb was much more reluctant and just wanted to give his friend a quick death. I think the idea is supposed to be LS representing "be careful what you wish for." That wanting a character to return as a killing machine, smiting all those who did them or those they loved wrong, can have terrible consequences. I do agree that the show likely would not know how to handle this type of nuance, but I also think it's a mistake to read so much into a quote from a director who has already said very problematic things and who won't be working on the show next season anyway.
