  1. Not long after I moved here, I saw a guy open carry in Walmart..... Apparently, that's a thing that's done here. I was so confused. But everyone runs around leaving their keys in the ignition, because it's so safe..... I don't get it. I feel like I need to get back, at least to WI. It's home, you know? I might not make it all the way back to Milwaukee, but I'll try to get close. On topic: I voted an hour and a half ago. I did my part as best I could. I can't stand that Orange Abomination.
  2. I'm from Milwaukee. The last place I lived was Bay View. But alas, last year I moved to a state farther inland and more isolated ( and more red) for a job. Meh. I expect I'll be back sooner rather than later.
  3. Another similar site to that is Out of Print Clothing. (outofprintclothing.com) A lot of their shirts look like the book covers. I think the library stamp shirt is cute. I liked the Outlander tote from the litograph site.
  4. My guess is that Romann is getting the Leap O the Cask scene. ;) So punny... That would have been my guess anyway. And like someone else said, I think we won't see Adult Fergus until Claire shows up.
  5. I saw that too in the Entertainment Weekly article. I guess they don't feel like dealing with the Fergus character marrying an underage character. I wonder if they'll switch the birth order of her daughters (Joan was older I think I remember) or leave out Joan altogether.
  6. So I haven't finished this book yet (because I had some library books on hold become available) so I can't really say if it's good overall, but I was interested in the beginning but anyway... Underground Airlines by Ben Winters. It's set in present times, but the Civil War never happened. There are 4 states that still have slavery. The main character, a black man, has made a deal with the federal government working as a bounty hunter.
  7. I think the height thing went out the window when they cast a tall Claire, but I think Cait does a great job so that's the important part. I think my coworker was like, after a tall Claire and a shorter Bree with 2 tall parents, John should be on the shorter side of things. So I had to burst her bubble on that, but I doubt she's really that fussed. I'm sure he'll be fine.
  8. If you have Netflix, you can catch his episode of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. It's the second episode of season one, Murder on the Ballarat Train. I can't remember which of the two college guys he plays, so I might have to rewatch to remind myself. I'm sure he'll be good. I'm never really good at imagining faces anyway so I'm never really too bothered by that. It's usually too hard to find a really good physical match anyway so I try not to think too much about that. As long as the acting is good I guess.
  9. So I put this in the media thread too, but I don't know how much discussion can happen in that one so since I want to see what people have to say..... Outlander finds its Lord John Grey.... http://www.ew.com/article/2016/08/29/outlander-lord-john-grey-voyager?xid=email-50scoops50days-20160829-readstory I've seen this actor on an episode of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries. Someone I work with is annoyed he's 6'1" (according to IMDB), but is withholding judgement until she see's him in action on the show.
  10. Outlander finds its Lord John Grey..... The article has some spoilers for the character and plot for the 3rd season, if people are looking to avoid that. http://www.ew.com/article/2016/08/29/outlander-lord-john-grey-voyager?xid=email-50scoops50days-20160829-readstory He seemed vaguely familiar and it's because I've seen him on episode of Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
  11. Yeah, and now Jamie knows she sent the note and to try to get Claire killed so how's that going to look later? :/ Oh well. I'm always in favor of the less is more approach with Laoghaire, but I can't always get what I want. Like ever :)
  12. The whole Grandpa, Colum, Claire pretending to be a witch, Laoghaire tangent kinda bugs me anyway. I figured he wouldn't sign it away here since he signs it away to his nephew later and not doing so would drastically change so much in the future, but it just seemed unnecessary to put it in this story line. Yeah, can we have season 3 now?!?! No? I guess I'll wait then. :( I thought I saw a book talk tag, but sometimes people must caper about so I guess better safe than sorry.
  13. My problem was the change from the book, not within the show. It's been awhile since I read the book, but I'm pretty sure it's his idea to name the baby after his father. I thought he said something like name him Brian, after my father. So it would be nice, to me, if he still could have name his child since he has such a rough time ahead. Besides, he doesn't think of tricking Lord John anymore, Claire does (there were some in the non-book thread that thought Jamie would be stupid to catch on. I guess because he never has any ideas of his own. It's almost always Claire) I'm okay with them being in it together though. He needs Claire to pretend to be a witch to get out of things with his Grandpa and was going to sign away Lallybroch?, but he does okay in the book. I think there were more, I just can't think of now. The change I did like involving cutting Jamie out was having him not be involved in the BJR wedding shenanigans.
  14. I don't have feelings really one way or the other about Sophie's acting, but since Bree kind of bugs me during this part of the story in the books and kind of bugged me during the episode, I guess she worked well enough for me. My dislike, I think, is mostly due to the Daddy's Little Girl character trait. I'm glad Bree and Frank had a nice relationship, but the constant Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! is grating. Even more so, having to hear it vocalized. (I'm self-reflecting enough to realize this is mostly personal baggage. I have a terrible relationship with my father and my ex-stepdad was kind of a piece of shit. He treated me differently than his own kids and my sisters were his Daddy's Little Girls so puke) Part of me was a tiny bit glad Claire yelled back a little. She let it roll and kept quiet when Bree said she wished Claire were dead instead of Frank so that was Claire enough for me. I usually feel bad for Claire when certain characters shit on her, when she hasn't done anything wrong to them, and she just takes it. (Marsali, Jenny) But I guess what Claire realizes is those times and the fight with Bree are coming from a place of hurt, anger, fear and not really malice or hate and it works out later. I think the actor did a good job with Roger, he's not how Roger looks to me, but that's not a big deal.To me, the styling of Roger is the bad point. Gah, why does he have that beard now, that goes up to his eyebrows, and why is he wearing those old grandpa sweaters?? He looks so old to me. Rik is a good looking guy, but they're hiding it or something. Save the beard for later. Too late now I guess. And in the inverse of how I feel about Bree, I don't mind Roger now in the story, but as the story goes on? Boooooo! Unpopular, I know!
  15. I didn't read it, but I was going to when my coworker was done with it. I decided not to because she would tell us about the characters and read parts to us and it sounded terrible. She didn't like it at all, but finished once she started it. On the other hand, she read it fairly quickly so it shouldn't be a huge time suck if you decided to read it.
  16. I had convinced myself for some reason that the end who be showing Jamie waking up at Culloden. I guess they wanted to save that for season 3. It's been bothering me a little that they take away Jame moments and give them to other characters..... well now Jamie doesn't even get to name his kid. :/ I did like the episode though. I liked Claire in her driving glasses for some reason. Bree and Roger aren't my favorite characters so meh. It does not start that way.
  17. Thanks! :) Aww, I would probably be sad about that too. I even have to try and not to let it bother me when coworkers won't read books I like and think they would enjoy. Haha, I can't imagine how I would be with my own family. I did eventually wear my one coworker down to read Outlander and then she read them all in about 8 weeks once she got started!! And I got her watching the show at the same time. I think she finished season 1 in a few days. She's current with season 2. Our other coworker decided she would get into it once we realized like 4 other work friends in different buildings have read them and watched the show besides us. She's on Voyager now and a few episodes into season 2.
  18. (Woo! Experiment successful! I was trying to see if I could quote from a different thread to another. I knew it was possible but I haven't done it yet. Next stop, spoiler tags, but I never post any) Thanks! I'm annoyed at myself for forgetting the hyphens. I should probably fix that. I've been a fan of those books since I was a wee lass and I was always jealous of people who had clever usernames from pop culture and I could never think of any. My middle name is Ann, but of course with no E. ;)
  19. She did know they were outgunned and outnumbered though. She tells Ned that back in season 1 when they're out collecting rents. I don't remember exactly what she says to him, but it was basically you can't beat the British because they have more men and cannons. So my guess is they were having Claire say, I don't know the strategy for how a pitchfork-wielding army with less men beats the British with cannons and whatnot when all she said was I don't know the strategy.
  20. I went and saw it this morning. I had to drive a bit to go to a different city because the small city I moved to a year ago suuuuucks! (They have 2 - 3 screen theaters and both are playing X-men and Ninja Turtles. Why? Seriously. Only one even played Star Wars. I think I'm being punked) Anyway, I really liked it. They stayed true to the book I thought while streamlining the story. I think they improved on Lou's family. Maybe it was because not as much time was spent with them, but I liked them more in the movie than I did in the book. I remember feeling like they would just shit on Lou constantly. They left a fair amount of the side stories out, but that makes sense. I don't feel like anything was taking away from the story by that though. I technically made it out without crying..... I teared up 3 times and had some serious sniffles though. They were close to spilling over! I cried once reading the book and I even knew how it ended.
  21. Deep down, I figured (or really, really hoped) Claire wouldn't burn that letter, but when she was contemplating it, I was like Guuuuuuuurl! And the whole "you owe me a life" Blech! I did not appreciate it in the book either. Claire, seriously! I didn't really need more Annalise in my life either. Annoying! "When I knew him, he was a boy" Yeah, so what? You chose someone else so don't worry about it, lady. You gave up your chance to pick him and keep him in arrested development. I just really don't know what she wanted to say to Claire about it. It's bad he grew up? Or wow, look at that man there. She bugs no matter what. And you have no idea what has happened to him since you knew him. A lot more than just marrying Claire, so shut it, Annalise!
  22. Yeah, that's how I was envisioning season 2 ending, or rather, "He didn't" and then show Jamie waking up at Culloden. End Scene/Season. But now with this talk about voice overs, I'm guessing it will be something like you guys are thinking with a Jamie voice over to mirror Claire's. Sad face!
  23. Can't say I'm a super fan of them finally getting it on after Jamie comes home with the bites. At least in the book they were intimate before and on better terms when this happened (as far as I remember)
  24. When I first heard people talking about it, I googled Compuserve Diana Gabaldon and found a forum that discusses the show and books. Mostly they talk about the books there (but I did look during the hiatus). Diana comments on threads from time to time. 99.9% of the threads run under the assumption that the people reading them have read the published books so it's not a good place for non-book readers who want to stay unspoiled. I can't remember if the show threads are show only or if they can talk about books. Even the thread titles could be spoilery since they mention characters and plots that haven't shown up yet.
