  1. This bugs me a lot too. but in this movie, like Bronx Babe, I was far more bothered by Amanda being so quick to dismiss and forgive her mother’s actions. Mother or not I would not have Done so. Interfering to the point of destroying her marriage and taking away choices about her future would have created an estrangement that would take far more time to heal and regain trust.
  2. So, interesting that there is repeated complaining about a lack of diversity on Hallmark, (which I disagree with somewhat) and then Mahogany is promoted ad nauseum (as are many previews), shown in prime time on 3 channels and yet nary a peep about it here. I didn’t watch it, despite being bi-racial I’m not their demographic. i finally watched the Yosemite one and it wasn’t as horrid as I expected. I spent a lot of my spring breaks and summer in Yosemite back in the 70’s anditwas nice to see it. I’ve hiked to the top of everyone of those waterfalls multiple times. Looks awful. I hate Jonathan Bennett as anything other than the gay best friend (and even then only in small doses) and barely tolerate the lady with the bouncy hair. i am looking forward to Marry go Round - I like the storyline I don’t care that it’s a rehash, Brennan Elliot is always enjoyable, and I lovedAmanda from Center Stage.
  3. I’m guessing Trevor Donovan because he’s the only one I can think of with the upturned nose. But he’s only been in a handful of movies that I recall.
  4. I finally got around to watching Romance in Style and color me surprised I really like it. The leads had great chemistry. She was a pretty and normal looking woman, with no mermaid waves. I didn’t find her bitchy, more that she was assertive and wasn’t going to take crap or pander to the new boss. I like that body positivity was correctly expressed as feeling good about yourself and being comfortable with ho you are, rather than the celebration of obesity that Lizzie and Tess promote. If they’re happy with themselves, great. But they are promoting a very unhealthy life all while demanding that we find them beautiful. Well sorry, I don’t. And don’t even go there with the fat phobia crap, i’m Not. Not fining it attractive isn’t the same as hating people. I have my own roll around the middle, cellulite ridden thighs and a jiggly ass. But I’m overweight not obese, I work out for heart health and to build stamina but you’d never know it by Loki g at me. I’m happy with myself, my boyfriend love vex me, and my doctor says I’m quite healthy despite the extra 40 pounds, which are hurting my knees more than impacting my health. But I don’t demand that other people find me beautiful, just that they leave me alone. The worst thing about the movie for me was the boss lady with the bad plastic surgery and weird lips. I’ve seen her in several of these moves and cringe every time. i guess I’m the only one that liked Dating the Delaneys, plot holes and all. Good chemistry, just a minor mis-understanding, and the ex was disappointing but not evil or a jerk. The peripheral romances were enjoyable too.
  5. Not all dogs are food motivated. I have 3 dogs and 1 of them is my problem child. He is a meat dog rescued from Korea, a breed called Jindo. He is neither food nor praise motivated. He will go several meals without eating at times until I jazz up the food to his liking; it’s been challenging to keep weight on him. I’ve had a professional trainer to work getting him better socialized, but after 4 years will not sit, stay, or come with any means. His only response is to negative stimuli such as a shock collar, which is a last resort. That said, he is a sweet and loving dog. But much more like a cat personality in that he does what he wants when he wants and comes to me on his terms, not mine. on a sad note, a Korean rescue organization just lost dozens of not 100 rescued meat dogs in a big fire earlier this week. It might have been where my dog was before he was brought over,
  6. I love Corbin Bleu, but this movie sucked in so many ways I only tolerated it because of him. You call it trying, I call it pandering it was overdone. The movie features 3 couples and all 3 are black/white interracial and one of them is gay. I know for some people on this board that seems not only realistic and under represented but for many of us, it’s just what TV wants us to believe everyone’s life is like. Talk about vocal fry, the gay black character was insufferable. The gay characters in Starlight Cafe (Paul Campbell’s exec asst) and the Sinatra-themed one from a couple of months ago were far more pleasant. If you’re going do 3 interracial couples maybe you could dig up someAsian or Hispanic actors. I did enjoy the PenaVega movie, it was different and I’ve never found their chemistry as lacking as many of you do. and in looking forward, I like the concept of the plus-size clothing designer movie, but could we please stop with the “body positivity” phrase it’s been over used to death and carries some negative connotations. If they say it more than twice in the movie I will change the channel.
  7. Agreed. But I thought Peter was great in the Hallmark December movie about two aging singers. From WYWS I also enjoyed the guy who played Joe Jr. i’ve Seen him in a few other things and can play something other than a schmuck. Not lead material but could play a Side character.
  8. I love the Dr. Rick where the guy is asking how you can sell enough candles to make overhead. I’m a Cost accountant so this is never in half the stores I go in to. I wonder how fast they turn their inventory? Do they own it, floor plan it, or consign it? None of these are things my parents asked, those are about me. But any time we went somewhere with my stepfather we’d get to the parking lot there would be a lengthy analysis of the lot exit patterns and the angle of the sun at our projected departure time, etc. I was 7, I just want to get in to the zoo and see the animals!
  9. Count me in with Bill Pullman love, pre-face lift. He can lean in on me anytime. also a fan of Sabrina remake, An Affair to aremember, While you Were Sleeping, and Sliding Doors. and......toe pick. Hallmark should get the guy from Cutting Edge, DB Sweeney. I wonder if he’s aged well. the older Hallmark actor I enjoy if Gregory Harrison. Far more handsome as he’s aged than when he was in MASH.
  10. I agree to the first part of your comment. Most cable channels cater to a specific group or demographic. Logo and BETexist because they can create and curate their content to a narrow and well defined audience and do it well. I o find it i interesting that Hallmark is derided as being Christian channel. Other than the Christmas movies they do, there is no reference to religion and I don’t recall even references to going to church. And even the Christmas movies are devoid of religious reference, save an occasional kid’s Xmas pageant done for comedy. I don’t consider flying reindeer nor egg laying Easter bunnies to be Christian. Fine with me, I’m an Atheist. If these movies were religious in nature I’d be watching less. as to why not being inclusive........ “fun fact”. For all the loud voices screaming for diversity, it doesnt result in better ratings. In fact, the opposite. I’m not saying there weren’t exclusionary practices under Abbott, but at the end of day,a lot of it is about ratings. Management knows it and is likely trying to balance demands from one end of the spectrum against resistance at the other end. There’s a strategy to making generic bland movies - they sell well. It’s not just lazy writing as purported by some on this site, some of it is intentional. The reality is that the more “ethnic” or demographically focused you make a movie, the fewer people will watch. Some people will tune in who wouldn’t normally engage while others will tune out finding it unrelateable or otherwise unpalatable. So maybe 10% more tune in but 40% tune out. I believe that gay romance stories will show huge audience loss, most temporary but some permanent. When ratings for Xmas movies were released late last year, CCB’s movie was #1. Movies with POC leads and stories were last, with an over 50% loss of audience. So why again does Hallmark need to be all things to all people? How many low rated movies do they have to make in the guise of “fairness” before ratings are allowed to guide their offerings? i will try to link correctly to the article and note these are hallmark released ratings not the usual “favorite” movies they often tout. https://www.yahoo.com/video/25-far-2021-hallmark-christmas-193000567.html?guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAI9Qp0DRFXooOqFvEFBgRU_vdWea8LndMFTEtPPEXsiQFdM0GYKvSC-6XQN4SQW_qmqi2aGifxracXA0pxAPsEqdcRuMKMYtDcCTh3cgSgvRXh1sjQFRjROaYD1aabhUQr-bsYyZAjEBxO5JRFb5_skKl2xaNZ9Dryxc5ExcoWvB&guccounter=1 sorry for the messy link... i’m Not skilled in this particular area.
  11. I don’t know specifically what the poster was referring to, but there are a lot of people who are not interested in gay romance for storylines. I don’t assume the post is about race. Anecdotally speaking, I’ve heard very little objection to the inclusion of POC and interracial romance but a lot with respect to the push for gay romance.
  12. To me there is a difference between snarkers and haters; love the former, loathe the latter. I post less on this board than I used to because I choose to not add to the chorus of vitriol and negativity, so I only post brief positive messages. It’s not that I don’t have plenty to criticize or things about the movies that I would change. But in a way, I like them for what they are at the core - predictable, sappy, full of plot holes, and poor footwear choices included. They are feel good movies for me that surprisingly aren’t the life I lead nor the life I desire but fulfill a part of me nonetheless. I’m for tweaking the movies but not changing what they are at the core They are rom coms, that is the Hallmark brand. I roll my eyes as much as anybody at the lack of pre-marital relations, but I don’t want them sexed up in the last. I agree that it’s unrealistic that nobody swears in the movies, but I vote for keeping the language squeaky clean. It’s been suggested that the women in these movies are out of the 1950’s. I disagree. The women in these movies are for the most part strong independent successful women. Doctors, authors, aspiring marketing executives, and entrepreneurs who live in nice houses with nice clothes and nice cars. Rarely a WALMart greeter or grocery store cashier living paycheck to paycheck. Even when the business they run is lame (e.g. a store that sells Santa hats), they are nonetheless not at home raising babies and sending the husband out the door in the morning with a brown bag a briefcase and a kiss on the cheek so they can go be as one with the vacuum cleaner. Just because they are looking for a loving meaningful committed relationship - which by the way is what most humans want - it doesn’t make them weak. It’s been suggested that once in a while the woman choose no one. Again, these are rom coms, not women empowerment movies. There are plenty of edgier alternatives on the tube for those who want it. Should Hallmark stray too far from the formula they have they will lose more viewers. Why does Hallmark have to be all things to all people? I came to this site from ones I PReVIOUSLY frequented with people who were WITHOUT PITY. I’ve enjoyed the wit and intellectual banter and insights that some many contribute, but I don’t appreciate the name calling. Referring to people as “pearl clutching hausfraus” and “nutty homophobes” does not encourage open dialogue and respectful debate. While I’m not the group being targeted, I also have choice words for those at the other end of the spectrum who shut down dissent and engage in virtue signaling. Keep the snark alive!
  13. I watched Just One Kiss and thoroughly enjoyed it. I can already guess all the negative things the usual haters will post. I liked not just the rom but this one had com too! And.the singing! And no mermaid waves. as to the exchange of money conversation, I often see someone order a coffee or ice cream bars from a cart and then hand over a folded bill. They never ask how much it is and no change is ever given. as for brands featured, I’ve seen Jergens, Walmart, and Nestles chocolate chips in addition to Folgers. I know there have been others but I don’t recall them at the moment. i am traumatized by Tyler Hines’ hair in the previews. I might dump him and go back to Wes Brown. I’d pick up Christopher Russel but he’s tainted from having kissed Cindy Busby. Ewww, yuck.
  14. When people move from doctor to doctor or one med group to another they don’t always transfer the records, so in many cases the current doctor only knows what you disclose on your medical history form. It’s a CYA thing that they make your fill out a history form over and over again instead of asking what changed since the last time you were there. My late husband had a wide range of medical issues and I was always amazed at the disconnect of info between his cardiologist and pulmonologist who were part of the same med group. Each one seemed to always be behind in knowing the more recents events from the other, often referencing information that was many months to a couple of years behind his current treatment plan. One of my annoyances is the requirement to fill out irrelevant questions. I’m in my sixties now so how is it important at this point to know the exact date I had my first period? And since both of my parents are dead, there has been no change to what they died from or when they died so why do I need to regurgitate this every time? To put the onus on the patient for providing complete information to reduce chances of lawsuits. and recently I went in for surgery and had to go to the lab to get a blood test to determine my blood type. After multiple surgeries and chemo I’m pretty sure my blood type is in my chart. But nope, they retest it every time just to make sure the record is correct. Not because they think it changed from O+ to AB- since last time I was there.
  15. Ugh I hate that part of the commercial, she is oddly dressed not to mention the damn lawnmower isn’t even running, it’s not cutting the grass as it moves. i do like the guy at the end, grilling in what I presume is football fan wear and face paint and slow jamming with his spatulas.
  16. This movie is based on a book. I listened to it on CD from my library. It was very well done, I “read it” at least twice on audio and then once the hard copy. The book had a longer story line about the daughter and unpleasant interactions with the snooty local girls. My recollection from the book that is that the lighthouse was on privately owned property that belonged to the dead wife’s family so it was his to restore as he wished, along its the beach house they called “the palace”. The movie was ok, I guess i’d Watch it again, if for no other reason that it’s the first time I found Sam Page to be smokin’ hot.
  17. So very bummed about losing WG. He was brilliant as Mozzie. I also loved his dancing scene in the Bo Sox movie with Jimmy’s Fallon, playing the bald anesthesiologist..
  18. Are we even allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving anymore? The wokie crowd implies that anyone who celebrates it is a racist person who should be consumed with white guilt and ashamed to celebrate it in any way. We all know the kumbaya story of the pilgrims and Indians feasting together is bullshit and no one (sane) denies how horrifically the were treated. but why does that mean I can’t make a fabulous dinner and enjoy family and be thankful for what I have? If Hallmark makes a traditional thanksgiving movie it will be soundly criticized. At this point it’s no wonder they phone it in, no matter what they do it’s wrong if it smacks of tradition.
  19. I was channel surfing one day and stopped on an older episode of Grey’s Anatomy. I recognized a voice, And it was a young Michael RAdy. He was kind of nerdy looking in his younger days and without facial hair. He’s definitely improved with age.
  20. The one exception for me is his pairing with Erin Cahill - who many consider to be the most wooden of the Hallmark actresses- in the faked Chopped show contest. i don’t generally care for Cindy Busby but I make an exception for the prince movie where James Brolin plays her dad a Montana rancher. The story line and other characters made her annoyingness less prevalent. And yes I did just make up my own word. i recently watched Dater’s handbook and wow Kristopher was super hot with his shaggy hair and I was surprised at how pretty Megan Markle is on screen. the other one who radiates chemistry is Marc Blucas. He could make me believe he’s in love with a telephone pole. A rock. Anything. I wish it was me.
  21. I knew I could count on this board to hate on Love for Real - this board finds fault with most things Hallmark. I for one thoroughly enjoyed this movie,I will rewatch today and record it for future viewings. The female didn’t bother me the way she did for this board, and I found it interesting that she was the least attractive of any of the women. My biggest complaint is the green dress Hayley wore at the pool party, it was hideous and inexcusable given that she is supposedly a fashion designer. It reminded me of the makeshift togas in Animal House. I thought Bree and Marco had smoking chemistry, Hayley and the lead good chemistry. I loved the parody of the Bachelorette - the scripted lines, the painting of one or more contestants as “the bitch” or “the favorite”. The interference of the producers in the outcome. I have no problem believing that was fairly close to how that show really gets made.
  22. I absolutely despise the Petco commercial where a man announces that it is now a health and wellness company, all said in a haughty, arrogant, snobby tone of voice. First of all saying you are an H & W company doesn’t make you one, and I’ve seen no evidence that you are one. Secondly doing it in a know-it-all voice doesn’t endear you to me. Contrast this with the PetSmart commercial where they sing a happy upbeat song about I’d do anything for you. given a choice I’d choose PetSmart in a heartbeat, but Petco is 10 minutes away and PetSmart is a hour and a half.
  23. I don’t know which one is the dark haired one but he was a recurring character on Veep with an incredibly dirty mind and foul mouth. To me that makes it funny to see him playing a “regular” guy in these commercials.
  24. I haven’t seen any one mention the horrific warbling that is the One A Day commercial. It’s short but long enough to send me up a wall. Followed by the woman “singing” about Prego sauce. (Maybe it’s Ragu, I don’t know or care). Just make her shut up. And I’m neither annoyed or outraged by seeing John Walsh for Jitterbug. I just don’t know where else to say it makes me sad to see how he’s aged. He went through a very tragic situation with his son. He turned it in to something that helped bring justice to other people. I know untold numbers of people have been through a lot, but for some reason his has always stuck with me.
  25. I love puppy bowl.. I liked the new announcer this year,, Steve Levy did a great job calling the “game” it sounded like a real football game. And the ref Dan always does a good job. i like cats but kitten bowl is just too boring for me. Cute kitties but I’m done after 5 minutes.
