  1. With regard to the Texas movie, I didn’t enjoy it but didn’t think it was as awful as all y’all do. We all find different things that annoy and for me it was those damn pearls! We get it, classy women wear pearls! Snooty North easterners are soooooooo refined unlike us backwards western folk. The rest of her wardrobe was awful. I haven’t spent much time in Texas but have on ranches in Wyoming and Idaho and she looked ridiculous. I don’t care how long you’ve been away, if you were raised on a ranch you’d know better.
  2. What is this, a tribute to royal baby watch? All day today has been a marathon of royal movies. Blech. They are all cringe worthy, with the exception of two. The chocolate one with Will Kemp and Lacey, saved from the shit pile by WK. And the Montana rancher one. I find James Brolin spewing cowboy wisdom in John Wayne vocal inflections is campy enough to be funny, which is probably not their intention.
  3. I didn’t follow GG when it originally aired, but my channel is often turned to Hallmark so I catch episodes here and there. I just watched early episodes for the first time, episodes 1-4. First of all, Coco the gay cook from episode 1, I’m glad he disappeared because really, how bad can you screw up a stereotypical Miami gay character? I am confused about Rose’s first boyfriend after 15 years. His name is Arnie and is played by Harold Gould. Years later he is Rose’s boyfriend Miles. Same character with a different name? Evil twin? Just one of those things?
  4. Grammar, people! There is more than one commercial where they say “do things different”. No. NO! Do different things, or do things differently. Gah! SMH.
  5. I loved Love Takes Flight. Despite the realism factors mentioned, which are par for the course, I enjoyed the drama rather than the rom com. I found Walter’s grief to be both palpable and well balanced. Maybe it’s because I lost my spouse 3 1/2 years ago and it resonated with me, but it rang true without being very the top. Quinn was well played for a child of her age, cute as a button without being cutesy. It was also refreshing to see a child character living with a medical issue; the only other one I recall was a Halloween one with a boy in a wheelchair who of course (insert eye roll) was able to walk and stand by the end of the movie. My nit pick beyond those mentioned was a phrase Charlie used towards the end. He talked about the airplane being full of gas, or gassed up, I can’t remember which. Anyway, I work in the aviation industry and I’ve been around pilots every work day for 25+ years. I have never heard a single one talk about gas. Whether talking about Avgas or Jet fuel for the plane, diesel for ground equipment or their pickup truck, or gasoline in their wife’s car, it is always “fuel.” Always. Lizzie’s attire was inappropriate for the workplace. Hallmark has a habit of overdressing women (high heels in the farm fields) or underdressing as in this case. nonethless it’s on my re-watch list. It was good for a cathartic cry.
  6. Emgality? its just letter salad at this point. Random strings of consonants with vowels strategically placed to make it almost pronounceable.
  7. The GG theme song.....the first time I heard it, I thought they said “and the heart attack” when it really is “and the card attached”. And now I can’t hear it any other way.
  8. I love me some Dennis Quaid. Not enough to buy his insurance, but I think he’s McYummy. as for John Cusack, I was never a Lloyd Dobler fan, but Martin Blank is my ideal fantasy man. and no, I don’t mind sitting on this couch all alone making faces at the rest of you!
  9. Fact: we all love video doorbells. Fact: we all hate the Scott brothers.
  10. This one has me confused for a long time. I think it’s Cesar dog food. There’s a man in a conference room of a high rise office building. He’s sitting by the window snacking, and he’s wearing makeup shirt that has epaulets. There’s a small dog on the sill eating. i don’t understand why the dog is there. I don’t understand who the man is. Airline pilot? Security guard? Why are they in an office building? and more importantly, why do I care?
  11. And who came up with Jardiance? It sounds like giardia which leads to a lot of diarrhea. and Rexulti sounds like retching. and Latuda sounds like you have a ‘tude. And Otezla is too much like Ozempic. but at the end of the day, I don’t know what most of these drugs are for and I guess in this case their failure to make that impression doesn’t matter. Normally I’d say if I don’t remember your product it’s a marketing failure, but I suppose not in this case. If I had any of the issues they are needed for, I’d remember.
  12. I also like the “$25,000 Pyramid” version. I watched that show incessantly as a kid, and I gotta say, they nailed the look perfectly. The set, the costumes, the gestures, it’s perfectky executed.
  13. I don’t know who comes up with the drug names, but there’s apparently extra credit for using the lesser common letters. Xeljanz, Ozempic, Farxiga, Xarelto, Myrbetriq, etc. it’s like there’s a pharmaceutical version of a Scrabble where they’re trying to get a double letter score for the Z or X and then a triple word score.
  14. During kitten bowl they showed an adopted cat with paralyzed back legs who was very active and running all around dragging her rear legs behind her. So sweet and damn you Hallmark you made me SOB.
  15. For me, as cheesy as most of these movies are, I can usually find something redeemable. Pretty people, chemistry, good cinematography, one or two enjoyable sidekicks even if I don’t like the stars. In the cookie cutter movie I hated the bitchy woman, but Erin’s relationship with the dad and kid, and the Alan Thicke and Erin’s mom budding relationship saved it. There was a mediocre PenaVega couple movie that was boring, but in the last 10 minutes the kids danced dressed up in little reindeer costumes and makeup and it was adorable! Didn’t love the movie but just 3 minutes of cuteness made this one redeemable. Didn’t save it to DVR, but didn’t hate it. Sweeter Side had nothing. Unpleasant people, bad story line, bad acting, I just couldn’t find any reason to like it and every reason to hate it. My most recent pet peeve is footwear. After watching endless Christmas movies of women tromping through the snow in heels or cute non-winter boots, i’m Now subjected to women in high heels strolling through uneven cobblestone streets, farms and vineyards, and even African safari lands. There are so many things to nit pick on and I can let most of it go but this is the one triggering me now.
  16. I always thought that I was knowledgeable in geography. Not Ken Jennings level, but I know a thing or two. But apparently I missed a few classes because unbeknownst to me, there are a significant number of small European countries, all of which have a handsome young prince poised to assume the throne imminently. And open to marrying lowly American women. I’m turning 60 soon. Do you think I’m out of the running? Or maybe I should make a play for the retiring king. There seem to be 30 or 40 of these countries, there must be one that would work for me.
  17. I can’t stand hearing them pronounce turmeric as toomeric. My dictionary does list it as an alternative pronunciation but it still makes me want to throw things.
  18. I enjoyed it. It didn’t rock my world but it was a refreshingly different story line than the typical tropes. But I was distracted by Carlos’ haircut. It looked military and I dont like that style.
  19. Argggh! I am getting really irritated with them repeatedly singing “bells on bobtails ring”. It’s Bobtail. That’s the name of the horse. Maybe it’s a canned song used in multiple movies but it’s seriously pissing me off.
  20. I’ve seen it both ways, but IMDB lists Hermey so I’ll stand corrected. P
  21. I’m sure someone has done a drinking game, but has anybody done a cliche scorecard? Let’s say we start with a common trope, such as big city girl with semi-jerk boyfriend goes home to a small town and encounters her high school flame. then we add points for each of the following cliches: a town square tree lighting stranded at the airport in a winter storm parents died in a car crash when she was young making gingerbread houses ice skating A festival or craft booths kissing under the mistletoe a town factory closing (toys, cookies, hats, whatever) etc. What did I miss? edit: I missed a character with a Christmas name such as Holly
  22. Funny, I didn’t like the Rudolph movie as a kid but now I love it. I have a disturbing amount of RtR-NR decor including 2 sets of stuffed TIOMT toys. Also lit porch decorations, including the spotted elephant who is my favorite. The best part of the movie is when he says “i’m Cute! She thinks I’m cute” My nitpicks are two mentioned above, leaving the door open and only 6 not 8 tiny reindeer pulling the sleigh. My other nitpick, (sorry to call you out, voiceover) is when people call Hermie “Herbie”. It’s Hermie. Don’t get me started on Smokey Bear being called a Smokey the Bear. I have never understood the appeal of Frosty. At all.
  23. Upthread I read there are ~150 Hallmark Christmas movies. I made my checklist off the website, where I found 94 movies listed as being shown this year. So far, I have watched 52 of them since early November! I’m not sure whether to be proud or ashamed. in any case, my favorites movies so far are the following, in no particular order: Switched for Christmas A Gift to Remember The Christmas Cottage Marry Me at Christmas A Christmas Detour On the Twelfth Day of Christmas A Very Merry Mix Up 12 Gifts of Christmas The Nine Lives of Christmas Christmas Cookies Ice Sculpture Christmas Snow Bride Christmas Connection I am looking to watch Fir Crazy since a few people mentioned that as a favorite. i am surprised that people didnt like Christmas Connection. I’ve watched it twice and cried both times. I liked the easy going relationship between the two instead of the forced romance. One of the things I like to watch for or the older male supporting characters. You know, the guy who might be CCB’s dad in one movie, and Lacey’s evil boss in another, then a weather caster, maybe an inn keeper, in Alicia’s. We see several of the same actors over and over as I try to figure out which other ones they were in. I do find myself being turned off by some of the plastic faces. The one with Mariah Carey is quite notable for that, and there’s a few others that really bother. Also, something about Jessica Lowndes bugs me. The long hair with the long face and the excessive make up, especially in her wedding at the end of December Bride.
