S09.04: Captain Sandy Shits on her Team (Yet Again)
Zaffy replied to snarts's topic in Below Deck Mediterranean
Why they had the picnic on such a crowded beach? They have done this before (not sure in which BD) and I always wonder why. The advantage of having your own boat and dingey is that you can go to your own empty beach that usually has no access except by the sea. I was surprised about the red tape between the trees isolating the part of the beach for the BD guests. I am not sure this can happen legally except if you have asked permission from police. Which is probably what the production did so they could have space for the volley ball game, etc etc. Actually without the police permission or even presence the owners of the beach chairs/cafe would had kicked crew and guests back to the sea. Organized beaches in Greece is like owned by Mafia. In any case, this is no way a setting for a luxurious vacation. Nor the food is nor those two pathetic fellas that played (a wedding song at the beginning, lol) and sang and smashed the plates. As ZettaK already said, we do NOT smash plates anymore, except for tourists. Instead we throw a bazillion of flowers, usually taken the night before from cemeteries. Has the production cut the budget? They don't really care anymore? Both? :) P.s. Who ever invented the "portable" slide for boats is a big big sadist! p.s.2 Bosun honey, you really need to change hairstylist, it is like if your forehead will explode and an Alien baby will come from inside! Hmm..actually that would be quite watchable, an Alien eating guests and crew one by one and of course Sandy playing "Ripley". Hah! I vote yes! -
This True Crime story uses real names of real victims from a real case. So it has the responsibility to treat the victim and her family with respect. If they wanted to make a fictional different story inspired by real events, they should had changed the names of the victim, the town etc etc. There are people in social media, who do not care to read the facts of the real case and blame Reena because this is what the show does, it focuses on Reena and her family's wrong actions (or whatever the show thinks they did wrong). And to answer your previous replies to my posts, victims are victims and no matter how flawed they can be it doesn't change the fact that they are well.. victims. And no flaws can justify what happened to her. But the worst is that Reena is not able to answer to whatever this show thinks about her, because she was murdered in the most brutal way. Not that the show cares about the victim, it seems to care and sympathize more with one of her murderers.

I can reassure you that this kind of yachts guests do go on shore to visit places. It doesn't matter how luxurious their yacht can be, they do explore outside their boat as well. Especially passengers that come from another country. What is the point to visit a country for the first time only to stay on board 24/7? Even in the huge cruise ships (that are like floating cities and offer everything) people visit the islands. In Santorini for example, they disembark by the thousands for a few hours in the island.

I used to stay in Poros Xenia Hotel, cause my father used to work there. Now the hotel is renovated and called Xenia Poros Image. It has the view the boat had in their second anchorage. If you book there, you have to ask for a room with that view. Dunno if they are more expensive, I have never been in the hotel after it changed ownership. This is the view. Simply amazing.

I have spent so many summers in Poros.. I love it so much. Apart from the error Zettak mentioned (actually there is a Poros in Cefallonia which means the producers just googled it and chose the wrong result, lol!) they treated the "Russian Bay" like a different location, when it is actually located a mile or so away from where they anchored next. I like Gigi, she and friends are quite the non-drama type, my kind of guests. So imagine how mediocre the food was to complain about it. This again looks scripted or "scripted". You are in Poros. You are in Greece, you have to serve fish. Fish. FISH! (ok, except if the guests do not like fish). Rachel and Ben would go to the island and buy fresh fish and seafood. In any case, you do not make chicken. I cannot believe this is random. Is the Chef less skilled (and chosen exactly for this reason) or the production has asked him to make mediocre food? Could be probably both. I remember quite a few Chefs being really unfit for this job, cooking average to bad food and I suspect they were chosen for the drama of it. One thing I have noticed in recent BDs, is that the Guests do not go out. Poros is majestic.. every guest would love to visit the town for a couple of hours. When I was in Poros, guests from these kind of yachts kept visiting the town. Maybe our guests did as well and the production decided not to show us to spend more time with the artificial drama. Next week they have a beach party? in a Greek crowded beach? I think the crew will end up preferring to be thrown in the middle of the ocean surrounded by sharks.

Well, overall we enjoyed this one. I am not into podcasts, true crime or not, so I might have missed something from the show's message, but still I liked the scenery and the acting. Hopefully they did not do too much typecasting as Ireland and Irish people concern. Not sure how the trio bonded with each other at the end.. nothing really justified that.. Anyway, I would give it a 6.5/10, which is quite a lot for something you find in Netflix nowadays.
-
Favoritism just because we need drama? At this point I am not even sure if they follow any of the yachting regulations or not (like that crew members must sleep for minimum hours). I wonder what the status of the boat is, does it count for a proper yacht and the crew (the one we see not the the invisible 1st officers and mechanics) for a proper crew? or they have been listed as extras/actors/tv production members?
-
I remember is some BD, they mentioned that the crew must have a minimum of hours to sleep. Maybe that is why they shouldn't wake the Chef? On the other hand it was his fault.. Now, if you want to visit Greece, I really suggest to do during Greek Easter, especially if it is in late April or beginning of May. Athens is relatively empty during easter week. There are plenty of customs, even if you are not religious, and the food is amazing (as long as you are not vegeterian). I know swimming could be tough cause the water would be still cold, but when the water is warm there are a bazillion of tourists in it! Something you gain, something you loose.
-
Of course, we can always be a tad cautious...cause the production can edit what the crew say, so we might not really know what words those two exchanged. The whole provisions... This time the boat docked in the inner spot of the Marina, it was so obvious how many shops, bars, cafe, etc are in the proximity. Actually, there is at least yachting provider in the area, that delivers 24/7. And when I say area I mean 5-10 mins walking away from the boat. Even in the Temple where they asked wine from the other boat, there are big hotels and tavernas and restaurants they could have sent the crew to buy wine from.
-
No too much drama, and I like it this way. I am surprised they didn't stay at the Temple of Poseidon till sunset, this is supposed to be one of the best sunset spots in the world. I guess they are strict on when the guests have to check out. So, that is why they kept the "no provisions" charade, so they could do the "buy wine from the other boat" thingy. That was kind of sweet. The Chef drama was well "meh". The guests had "late night snacks" in their preferences, so the Chef kind of screw up this one. I am with the stew. The restaurant the crew had dinner at, is located in Lycabettus hill. I always tell people who visit the city to eat in one of the restaurants there. Food is decent, but it is the amazing view that makes the difference. And if you wonder why there are no high buildings and a high skyline in Athens, it is because nothing should be higher than the Acropolis rock. Which has made the city expanded horizontally instead of vertically. As for the sex shenanigans.. well "yawn". Although I did laugh loud when they said "where are no cameras?" in front of cameras!

Another season I quite enjoyed! I think their best so far. And it was nice (and a tad sad) that we got to know how Alexa's hubby died. Hopefully another season will follow. I will not complain if it will have a couple of episodes more.

I am in Athens. I am related and worked in the tourism industry. And you are still in denial. Let's say this is a show about a small hotel in Manhattan, New York. The provisioner of the hotel tells the manager that he can bring him champaign tomorrow, but the guests arrive today and have specifically asked for champaign. The first thing the manager will do is to run to the nearest liquor store (which is located 5mins walk away) and buy champaign to have his clients satisfied until the actual provisions arrive. And if he can't run, he will order. If the next day the provisioner keeps failing to provide, the manager stops working with him, and searches for a new provisioner, buys more liquor from local shops, orders on line, etc. It is the same thing with our boat. Zea might not be Manhattan, but probably has more shops that sell liquor. You think it is a schedule issue for Sandy to send two crew people away for 30mins to buy champaign from a shop VERY near by? The Micromanaging-everything Sandy? We even have Wolt here, you know the delivery service? They could have ordered from Wolt and had enough liquor in less than 60 mins. This is Athens, (I attach a picture to realize about how big this city is). Provisions are not an issue except you want it to be an issue. These provisioners work with yachts exactly because they provide in time. And if provisioners face a sudden lack of products, they usually ask from a fellow provisioner to cover up for them. You keep saying it is a TV show. Well this TV show claims to show a real charter yacht. Maybe it used to be real, personally I do not think it is anymore. As for the "scripting". Maybe they do not give their "crew" pages to read and act , but they can certainly lead them on how to behave or create the "drama" conditions with "shady" provisioners, badly maintained boats, leaking cabins, green crew that have never finished a season, etc etc. Or even give them certain guidance, like "do not buy provisions, leave your guests hungry and thirsty". And as someone already wrote here, in at least one episode the Chef went on shore to buy provisions. The commentator remembered Ben, I remember Rachel doing so. In any case, of course you can believe what you want and enjoy this reality the way that pleases you. But I can reassure you 100% the provisioner drama was fake. p.s. Have you watched the series Unreal? it is about a different kind of reality, but exhibits very well how the production can actually "script" a reality. -

Why you think Sandy was not aware of the shenanigans? Or even the guests? or even the rest of the crew? I am surprised after watching BD for many seasons you still believe this kind of drama is genuine (or any drama in these BD boats). Look, you have to trust me on this, THERE IS NO WAY the boat would leave for the charter without all the provisions needed on board. You do not offer luxury services and sail "empty handed". With no wine and no champaign at all. 5mins walk from the Marina, there are plenty of shops that sell Dom and good Rose and Red wine. You send your crew to buy some till your production provisioner decides to provide you with. Even in the island they went, there are plenty of sources to buy good liquor. In any case, in this industry you do not just wait when and if your provisioner would do his job, you have to keep the client happy. So this is just artificial drama. Like the rest of little dramas in episode one. A good Stewardess, like Aesha is, would tell the noobie exactly what to do with the cloths and not wait for 5h and after the guest's complaints to do so. An average Bosun would have the tab ready for the guests. As for "wake the chef" drama, they are always prepared for some late snacks and the stew in charge should know how to handle the situation. There was plenty of toast bread in the galley, I have the same brand in my kitchen, lol. All of this, are "scripted" one way or another. Either the crew is completely ignorant (Aesha is not) or the production leads them on how to act. -

Trust me, I am in Greece and related to tourism industry, the whole provisions thingy is a fake crisis. It is just a small yacht in a city of 5millions that lives and provides for tourism and there are plenty of suppliers to cover the demand. Hell, if it was such an emergency they could have gone and shop in the dozens of shops around the Marina or order online. This is not a location in a small island in the middle of nowhere. I can't remember which BD and when, but I do recall the Chef going out to shop for the needs of the boat.- 48 replies

Well I thought I would never watch BD Med again (or any BD), but they are in my hometown, they go to islands I have spend whole summers in and Aesha is back and I love Aesha. So I will try. Not sure for how long I will cope. We had the usual fake emergency, this time with provisions. Of course this is an artificial crisis scripted by the production. We are in Athens. There is NO WAY the provisioner would leave the boat without drinks. Even if the provisioner had a stock issue, there are a bazillions of other places to buy alcohol for your client. And If it was such a problem, Sandy, the micromanagement queen, could go and shop around the Marina to temporarily cover the needs of the guests. Even in Aegina island, the boat's first destination which is basically an Athens suburb, you can buy some good Rose or Red Wine. The other crisis seems to be waking up the Chef in the middle of the night to make grilled cheese toasts. Lol. To be honest I prefer provisions crisis than the usual "sex on boat" ones. Although I am sure the later will also occur sooner or later. This year it seems we will have Sandy's wedding, I saw the proposal on the preview, not sure if the actual ceremony will happen on this yacht. So far, I cannot tell much on the crew. Sandy is Sandy (personally I do not mind her, except when she is starts talking in that frustrating motivational tone - meh) And its kind of a surreal fun to see products in the galley that I have in my own fridge :D -

I would appreciate more the scene between the mother and the murderer if it wasn't made up and forced. It took years for Warren to admit his crime and for the Virks to forgive him. It was another attempt of making Warren likeable, you know the cute boy who killed someone unknown in cold blood because he felt angry. And of course it was Rebecca who brought those two together. The Rebecca Story with little big of Cam into it. After all, those two are in the series poster. Not Reena, not her family, not even cute Warren.
-
Well on the positive side I won't have to see Rebecca again. And her cutie little sad face.. 🤮 The creator(s) of this show should be ashamed. I can't know what they had in their mind, but the result was an insult to the victim and her family. They showed all of Reena's wrong choices and that was it really. Nothing more than her obsession to belong with the cool kids. Or her family's need to belong. Like if Reena never existed before the months that led to her murder. Not that they really bothered with the guilty ones either, except from Warren who they decided to humanize because.. I dunno... because WHY? because he was sweeter than Kelly and less sociopath? He killed a person he did not even know. But he is cute when he looks sad... They manage to made the killer cute and the victim unsympathetic. And then came Rebecca.. that poor tormented soul.. dragging her sad existence around with that constant depressed/stoned/constipated expression in her face, desperately needy for attention and forgiveness. A fictional character that contributed nothing to the story. A story about the murder of a brown girl that hijacked by the sad story of an irrelevant white woman. The worse scripted show I have ever watched. I felt insulted... I am not even sure how I would feel if I was a member of the Virk family. Everyone who wrote this should apologize to Reena, her family and her friends.
-
I think the purpose was to see a horrible crime from a non "black or white" perspective, which in our case is a completely stupid approach (and I am very kind with my words here). We cannot know what the real Rebecca had in mind when she talked with the show's creators, maybe the later simply failed to execute her idea properly.
-
I think they represented all races by painting their faces in the race color. Like blackface. I mean...really they didn't know/think this is the epitome of racism?
-
I really liked this finale, I think it had the most "Kings" feeling than any other episode of the season. I did not expect to enjoy this show so much, mostly because even If I loved Elsbeth, I thought she was good only in small doses. Well, I am glad I was wrong! I just hope "Evil" wasn't ending so Elsbeth could do a cameo killing daemons with Sister Andrea!

Parasite!!! Best Rebecca description ever!

The Rookie's writing stuff preparing the AI machine to create this episode's script: Writers: Make everyone a "Bailey". AI: ✅ Writers: Add Mission Impossible Vibes AI: 😮 Writers: ok ok.. at least bit of a Rambo touch then? AI: ✅ Writers: Add some exotic location outside US AI: ✅ Writers: How many Villains against Nolan can we gather? AI: yes Writers: with at least one red head. AI: ✅ Writers: and add Elija.... AI: 🤬 P.S. The stupidity of this show's villains cracks me up. Like the laundromat-death-trap with only two exits! And this dude wanted to blackmail Monica, lol! p.s.2 I am trying to understand Monica's master plan, blackmail cops so her "clients" escape them. I mean TR LAPD version is stupid, but that stupid not to realize what is going on after a while? yeah, that stupid, lol!
-
I have watched a bazillion of TV series, some really bad, but I am not sure I have ever been frustrated as much as I am with this #@%#%@ show. WTF this is? Why Rebecca has hijacked Reena's story? Why? why? why and why? How many times are we gonna listen to this psychopath confusing murder with a "mistake"? This whole sh**show is such an insult to the victim... p.s. Why the Reena Virk Murder Page in Wikipedia has been so much heavily edited the last few weeks? Whole parts are missing, if you see the revisions you will understand.
