I was so stoked when I saw Claire writing in a hunter's journal like John always kept. I was so bitterly disappointed when I discovered it was actually a teenage girl's diary.

So for people ordering the Frywalls and testing... does it make any more practical sense to use one of those than to fry things in a deep pot with high walls?

Grapefroots - where you get free fruit salad with every lap dance! We learned I think in the first episode that they also have a Montessori school there, so perfect place for the birthday party!

I think he can demand that equity for a few reasons. The business was in the red. Due to the way it was being run, it was hamstrung by Jeff having to be involved every process, so there was literally no way it could grow its revenues. And most importantly, his business was instantly going to boom due to being involved with Marcus' portfolio of other companies. Speaking of which, it's been fun and interesting to see more and more of his companies and the entrepreneur's he has partnered with come into new episodes to help out. This business nor the couple running it impressed me. The only one that did was the son who cleaned up the warehouse / factory and then disappeared. Aimee... while I think she's right that she is a people person, I don't think she's a good sales person. None of her pitches were very compelling, and they were sort of unclear. The only time I saw anything there was when she was rebutting Marcus about the toy display, and how it makes the room feel bigger. While it can be learned, she also lacks basic sales training. What Marcus told her, "get them in the habit of saying yes," is literally day 1 of sales training. While Marcus may be a sucker for crying, breaking down during a high-pressure situation is not a good quality for a sales person. And she did it twice, during literally the easiest pitches she is ever going to make. The coffee shop scene (which sort of felt a superhero training montage) made no sense to me. As in, the dialogue didn't go together at all. Either post-editing destroyed all coherence or I was dozing off, because Marcus would say something and then Aimee would say something completely different and off topic, and vice versa. This is not the first time I've noted this happening on the show either. The only display that I thought was any good was the final shoe & watch display, the high-end one. The low end one was super tacky and cheap looking, especially with its "mission statement" sign just thrown on the bottom that looked like a high-school student counsel poster.

The Wizard Fingers scene is still my favorite scene from this show!

Each segment had a black title card that said "if so and so called."

Yeah, just explain to the club that according to your customs you're a man and they'll let you in.

He was fired from both jobs before the episode aired. Rayjus released the statement while the episode was airing live. So it almost certainly wasn't due to backlash from the episode.
-
It's exceptionally silly. 1) everything he did was on public display, so it's not like they didn't know about it 2) him being fired from the radio and the company happened simultaneously with the episode, so it isn't like they are doing this because of customer/advertiser/general backlash The only thing I can figure is that Rayjus thought the segment would never make it to air, and the radio station didn't realize it was being aired until the promos started. And honestly, after seeing the promo for the episode did anyone think Marcus was going to make a deal with them? As for how he was "fired"... if they were truly 50/50 partners it makes it more difficult. I'm no lawyer or expert, but it's possibly that Justin was written into their articles of organization as the operating officer, which could make it easier to tell him to stop coming to work, but it wouldn't dissolve his ownership. Most likely Ray still owns half the company. I was sort of hoping Marcus would buy Ray's half of the business for way under its value and boot him, but even that could have been spun the wrong way.

Wanted to find a recording of some of his radio program, but came up empty. Rayjus "released a statement" yesterday.

They said it was the biggest Shark Tank exit. There could be other companies that have not sold or gone public and are worth more than the $300m that Plated sold for, but I can't think of any off top of my head. We don't know what Kevin agreed to with Plated, but if it's close to Mark's on-air deal of $500k for 5.5%, that's a pre-money valuation of ~ $9m. On air I think Kevin said it was a 3400% return on his investment which matches closely to the $9m valuation. My rough math shows that Kevin made $16m on that deal! Just for comparison, Groovebook sold for $14.5m.

Original Mythbusters started off low-budget too. As the show's popularity grew so did their budget. It still feels like 2.0 still have more budget than 1.0 did at the start, but it's almost nice to see them have to improvise and be creative again. I've warmed to the new team quite a bit more than I expected to.

Ahh I figured it had to be something like that, but I didn't recognize the first guy so it threw me off. Thanks!

S08.E11: The Great Christmas Bake Off

I loved that Selasi was already prepared to clap for Paul when the winner was still being teased. -
Was there more to those segments that I missed? They were like the short, funny customer segments but they weren't funny as far as I could tell. I must have missed something.
-
I like when shows push the boundaries and try things new. In theory the animated segment should have been amazing. In reality is was awful, dreadful, and cringe inducing. The story with the nurse was funny, especially her "you'll find my resignation letter in an orange in the breakroom." The neighbor story... eh. I'm just going to assume it was mostly setup for future, funnier plots.

Yeah, out of 7 episodes so far this season we've had 4 "normal" episodes. That's assuming you consider the Monica Potter episode a normal one. I guess it's nice for Marcus that he gets to explore interests outside the original format of the show. He presumably can't keep investing in new businesses forever, so this is a good way for him to keep the show alive longer. But as a viewer I have little interest in these specials. I would much rather spend more time with the businesses he has invested in. (Even if that results in less Marcus overall.)
-
And the love interest, of course. I'm also hoping we revisit the engaged girl who went off to be a stripper.
-
This didn't make me laugh as much as I expected it to, but the premise is a lot of fun and there's potential here. Many of the plots and the characters were sort of paint-by-numbers. Hopefully that's just pilot-itus and they get a little more creative. I really like the idea that there are regulars on the plane, but there's also room to bring in wacky new characters each week. My favorite moment was also the pilot taking down the passenger! Favorite line: "It's bad enough that Alan has to watch."

As someone who doesn't particularly like the drama in this show, this episode was surprisingly good. I don't have a lot to critique or say about it, other than... When talking to the guy who licensed their brand, Marcus said something like, "so they are doing all the hard work and only making 8%?" Um, no, Marcus, they are doing literally nothing and making 8%, that's the beauty of a licensing deal. (Also, why was the onus entirely on that guy to produce the contract? Cory's mom should have had a copy and given it to Marcus to review before the meeting.)

S08.E11: The Great Christmas Bake Off

Forgive my ignorance... but is Welsh still widely spoken? Wikipedia tells me that fewer than 20% of people in Wales can actually speak it. A Welsh cooking shows seems like very niche novelty. Really excited to see Paul & Selasi again! Paul's lion bread still may be the most beautiful thing to come out of GBBO. -
Definitely chill! But we've seen that in the past, so it's not out of character. I don't think there's anything wrong with what the teacher did - Tyler is of legal age (and maybe no longer a teenager now?), and she didn't realize that his little sister is one of her students. Stuff that happened after that is iffy, of course, but that was the point. John's brain is clearly turned to mush either by old age or alcohol. I've been waiting for them to address that in-universe since episode 1, so I'm not holding out much hope. I assumed the actress missed the previous few episodes because she just had her baby? I'm not sure about the filming schedule. With them talking about kids early in this season I expected them to write her pregnancy into the show. Maybe it's coming.
