I find her rather irritating, and the "redeeming" moment she gets every episode is never earned. Her character seems to follow a classic sitcom routine - lovable but wacky character messes up something big every episode, but always manages to pull together so things work out for the happy ending. The rest of the show is more satirical or farcical, with quick, witty banter and biting humor. Both types of show are fine, and I've certainly enjoyed my fair share of both, but I don't think they are meshing well here. Carol is getting in the way of the satire I want, and everyone else is getting in the way of the Carol show that you want :)

Really curious how this show is perceived by NBC. They played the 10 episode first season all as back-to-back episodes and quickly renewed it for a 13 episode season 2. The ratings weren't phenomenal, though they did manage to play most of the season during sweeps month. Usually when a show gets a 10 episode order to start, then they pick up 13 more episodes they play it as the continuation of season 1. Maybe the weird/late April start for the show, and the trend toward shorter seasons has changed things. It looks like S2 will air in the fall though, which means we'll probably get 8-9 weeks of episodes, an annoyingly long 8-9 week holiday "break" where we can forget everything that happened, then the final 4-5 episodes airing in January. (a la The Good Place)

Really? I love everything about the show except Carol :) She annoys me to no end! I've liked the show since the start, but I think it really won me over when it started tying episodes together with all the little callbacks, and eventually an actual plot to the season. Hopefully they keep that up in S2! Gene doing Chuck Pierce's voice was hilarious. And then getting all the credit for the scheme!

Watch The First Trailer For Star Trek: Discovery
ae2 replied to Primetimer's topic in Star Trek: Discovery
Can you expound upon this? I've never heard anyone make this case before, and I'm not really seeing it at first grasp. -
Agree on all points! Was that Jon Cryer that randomly appeared during this episode? It happened so fast. I was expecting it to be the employee from the first half of the season who was always in a tent or scuba gear. (They've ignored him, unless I mentioned a resolution to that thread.) Of all the new, "classic sitcom" shows this season that I've watched - Great Indoors, Man with a Plan, American Housewife, Kevin Can Wait - this one is by far the best and has the most potential. If it's renewed I'd like to see some small cast changes, and for them to add a little variety to their locales.

I understand why people might hate it, but I rather enjoyed it. When I get around to my re-read I may hold off on it until the end (or begin with it). Would love to hear what in particular you disliked about it so much!

I'm thinking this movie will be all about Jake, Roland, and the man in Black, and they're saving Eddie and Susannah (and maybe Oy?) for the TV show they still want to do if the movie is a success. Maybe bring Jake in, and an occasional visit from Idris Elba.

Just caught a first season episode for the first time in probably 10 years. I couldn't for the life of me remember who Ford was, and I kept wondering what Ronin was doing this episode. Completely forgot that he didn't show up until season 2. For some reason I never warmed to most of the cast like I did SG1. I like Sheppard a lot, Ronin is fun, the rest are just okay. Maybe it's time for a rewatch to see if any of them resonate more with me 10 years older.

It's not typical King horror at all. There are a few moments throughout the book series that could be described that way, but 80% of the story would best be described as a fantasy-western mashup. (And about 15% weird meta-fiction that makes complete sense in context, sort of.) You nailed the music. Much of Roland's character (Idris Elba) is based on Clint Eastwood westerns, and the influence in the book series is very prevalent.

I've spent two seasons trying to pin down who the older daughter reminded me of and I think you just nailed it! That's been driving me crazy. (The best I could come up with before is she resembles a young Scarlett Johansson.)

"Intern" in large parts of the corporate world really means "assistant." And by "assistant" I really mean "grunt." Fetching coffee and running errands is par for the course. I assume it's the same in the news world? Maybe in future episodes we'll see her doing something resembling news work. These two episodes got a handful of chuckles out of me and a few big laughs. I'm in for a few more episodes. I really like Briga Heelan from two of her past shows, and John Michael Higgins brings laughter and absurdity to everything he does. We're only 44 minutes into the show, so I'm not too upset that the daughter hasn't quite found the gumption to stand up to her overbearing mother yet.

The wheel on wheelie shoes clicks into the sole when not in use. You couldn't do that with your typical high heel because the sole is exceptionally thin, but I could see it working with the more boot style heels that are popular. Would love to see it in a cop show where you're about to ask "how the heck is she going to chase that guy in those stiletos?", only to have her click the heal up and run after him in flats. Meh. Wait... how did I miss a Forrest Gump impression??

S08.E20: Apollo Peak, Under the Weather, Seedsheet, Cropsticks

To me it sure looked like the pod was smoking as it dissolved, and not like dust from the peat. My biggest question was what the pods were made from so I went digging. This is what their website says: -
This happened the other way around. Juli's poster had the most votes from people, beating Erin out by a half dozen or so. But Marcus declared Erin the winner because he took a risk and understood what the challenge was all about.
-
Welp, went to CNBC's website to watch the finale and right on the page for the show is "this underdog beat the odds to become the Partner" with a screenshot of Juli. Not like I was super into this show, but it would have been nice to have watched the finale spoiler free. Oh well, they saved me an hour of my time. This is what I've been most curious about during the entire show, but they've given precious few details. (I'm not even sure we heard about the salary/equity until episode 3.) Will the "partner" help manage existing investments? A sort of executive liaison. Does this mean the Profit will begin to focus more on his existing businesses? Or will they work with Marcus to vet and invest in new investments? Or work "independently" to invest his money into new businesses?

The Comics: Same, Yet Different
ae2 replied to KarateKate's topic in The Walking Dead Franchise Shows
Since nearly all of the show "plot" happens within the first, last, and mid-season episodes, they have about 12-13 episodes that would be perfect for this stuff. I expect we'll see these things happening throughout the second half of next season (with the first whisperings as the mid-season cliff hanger), or the first half of the following. I could see them killing off Show-Negan. It's just harder to show the slow character arc he has on a TV show where you're paying actors to appear. And it seems he's been pretty well hated by the fan base. I don't expect it to happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. -
I know Marcus loves a good sob story, but if it were me and you called me up to whine how the other competitors said that you should be the one to go home and how that hurt your feelings so bad, you'd be gone right then. The only thing that saved Erin this week was Buffie's ineptitude. He should have sent them both home.

Eh, HIMYM is special. The retroactive storytelling format of the series allowed a single episode to completely alter the purpose and value of every other episode. (Not to argue how good/bad of a finale it was. And let's not pretend we didn't see it coming!) The only way Bones could have maybe had that same impact... maybe Booth dies and Bones announces that she never actually loved him, and only pretended in order to bear the perfectly gifted child to raise as the ultimate serial killer? Not saying I didn't enjoy the series ending, because I did, but there was no sense of closure. No conclusion, and nothing to bookend the series. Really, you could insert this at the end of say, season 9 or 10, and it wouldn't change anything. (Bones has had a couple of great series finale episodes when they didn't know if they were renewed or not.) Some people like closure, and some people like to know life goes on as usual even when their show is over. I guess I just wanted a tiny bit of conclusion here.

Also... maybe when they rebuild the lab they'll actually install some real security. Maybe... Ahhh that's what the plaque was! I couldn't read it and I couldn't remember what it was from. Thanks!

"And whatsyername, you taught me how to chirp." Perfectly describes how important and useful her character has been. I mean, no one died :) Otherwise it was an okay finale. Personally, I'm kind of tired of finales that don't actually commit and change anything. They make US feel good, but there is nothing final about them. All the cutesiness and callbacks were done with out being overly cheesy. Even the "interns unite" scene was sort of sensible and relevant. Glad they FINALLY remembered Parker (and that it was Bones that had a Parker moment). They've always paid respect to Sweets since he died, and did so here. Did I miss a Vincent Nigel Murray reference? Was really hoping for one. Didn't expect a Dr. Goodman mention but that would have been nice too. Fare ye well, Bones, Booth, and team. Hopefully all the people from your past that want to kill you are gone now and the rest of your cases go better. Let's not even discuss how much Hodgins wouldn't want to be the lab administrator. KING OF THE LAB!!

I'm not too fond of Mateo - he's okay as a background character but I rarely like his stories. But I'm 100% with you about Jeff. The actor really nailed that role. I'll be disappointed if we don't see him again. (I could see him becoming a sort of spiteful bad guy making life difficult for the store.) Put me down for co-jerker. I mean, as my preferred name for the Dina-Garrett situation.
-
I accept your feelings, and anxiously await the conclusion!
-
Try telling that to Vincent Nigel Murray. Or Sweets. Or Max. Or Jared Booth. I'm not certain someone is going to die, but it would totally fit with the show. Also, it occurs to me that if Caroline is indeed the linchpin of the group, that her death would be the perfect way to let them all move on to the next stage of their lives. I'd be more upset at Caroline dying than Bones or Booth.
-
Is anyone buying into the Bones is going to die thing? I've felt like it has to be Booth that dies up until this episode where they really put the shade on Bones. But maybe they're trying to give us a pump fake before actually killing off Booth. I don't think ANYONE on the team would make a good administrator for the Jeffersonian. No way would/could Bones do it. I could see Edison taking over, or them throwing the viewers a bone (heh) and bringing back Dr. Goodman for a surprise appearance in the finale.

Did the one guy (Michael?) actually say in his talking head, "There's going to be 70 bitches up in there"??? There was far less drama than I expected. But cutting it from 10 to 5 in one episode was dumb. Completely agree with the person above who said the editing is awful. The curly haired blonde woman (Juli?) was okay and probably a front runner, but I can't get past her exclaiming, "I don't think I've had any epic fails. Maybe this is my first one?"
