Masterchef Junior (US) - General Discussion
whinewithwine replied to Lisin's topic in Masterchef Junior (US)
She and Grayson are definitely the most smug. Maclain gets the award for silliest designated outfit. And how long before Ramsey refers to Freddy as "big boy"? At least on this show they refer to these kids as home cooks as opposed to another kids cooking show that calls them chefs. And that show has insufferable parents as well as smug kids. -
If you like cooking shows with competition, try Top Chef. Very accomplished chefs with acclaimed judges.....assuming Blais has worn out his welcome there. The new season starts 3-3.
-
I wonder if that works for <ahem> certain medical procedure preps.

The show airs at 3:30 Central in Chicago, hours earlier than almost anyone else It's on at 11:30 CST, Houston.

S01.E01: Welcome to the Next Level
whinewithwine replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Next Level Chef
Hell's Kitchen and MasterChef are my guilty pleasures, but this one doesn't make the cut. Not much focus on cooking....too much on inane comments by the chefs and Blais and his stupid hair...bleh. -
Not at all. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) does not apply here. I'm recently retired 50 year medical field worker and thought with my free time, I would catch up on some shows. I think I watched the first episode of the first season of this...uh....mess. Now I remember why I deleted it from the queue. No relation to reality and crappy actors. That being said, I'll watch again just for the "campy" aspect. What's up with giving compressions but no ventilation to someone who's been down eight minutes? Flying in a transplant organ....I think I'll just pull it out of the ice and take a look...........LOL I gave up on The Resident for just this reason, but this is so stupid it's fun to watch with a glass of wine.

Just saw in the local paper that they are filming today in Houston. The weather is glorious. I live just north of Houston, and I really hated the Texas season. It was the hottest summer in many years, and they avoided going anywhere near the coast. It's not like we eat chili/barbeque every meal.

Agree with all of the above about taking too long to give out aprons. About all I look forward to in this competition is Joe and Aaron's various malapropisms, like when they call a perfectly prepared pork belly "unctuous". I just happened to finish a novel this week in which the author used that term to describe a particularly nasty mobster. unctuous 2a : fatty, oily. b : smooth and greasy in texture or appearance But that's good eats to Joe and Aaron. They are always good for a few of these as the season progresses. -
I'm thinking it was John Besh, but you're right. No way to edit around Gabe.

Exactly how I felt when Gabe used the catfish skin.

I thought Ken was very good. And his closing, "Thank you, Alex" was very classy.

Absolutely. Would have been funny if Gordon had gotten that piece of fish and thrown it against the wall. -

Totally agree on all points. I thought the plate was creepy. You gonna serve food on THAT plate in your restaurant, Joe? Guess they had to keep with the "you on a plate" theme. And cheering for someone other than your wife, doesn't make you a "hater". One last point would somebody tell Joe that it's "yin/yang", not ying/yang. That just bugs me. -

Dorian lost me by the way she treated Subha. Why would any of the three amazing judges pick her over Sarah to train in their restaurants? -

But you missed Aaron's first pearl of the night about the appetizers...."you'll make one for each judge, that's THREE total." And he held up 3 fingers, in case they missed it. Wine, I need wine.- 3.4k replies

I got it right away, but then I'm still celebrating...-) Hope Alex appreciated the "Camus" answer today.

Ah, the only category I could possibly do well in. In Houston, Ed was on at 7 and Bonanza at 8. I was (ahem) 14 years old then. I have seen Paul three times in the past 10 years. ....never gets old.

Aaron spoiled my drinking game tonight...didn't use "unctuous" one time. But he did refer to grains of rice as "granules".....close enough Drink! Rawrrr fish and there's even a discussion? -

I was waiting for him to say "unctuous". OT. First saw The Four Tops in 1968. One of my all time favorite groups. Thanks for the memory. -
