  1. Where can I read their response? I’ll watch Emily Baker break it down later, but I’d like to read some of it too since I read the defense’s motions. ETA: Nevermind. I found the responses for each defense motion. I think and hope Josh is going to jail. None of the other three Josh is trying to pin this on were on the car lot in May 2019. Josh was the only one there. He should take the plea deal. I especially enjoy the part when investigators ask Josh, “Have you ever seen x,” x being a very specific image of CP, and Josh, the absolute moron, says “I’d prefer not to answer.” I mean, what an idiot. If someone asked me if I had ever seen a very specific graphic image of CP, I would automatically say “God, no! Who would look at that!” In other words, Josh saying “I’d prefer not to answer” tells me he knew exactly what they were talking about and that yes, he absolutely had seen this image.
  2. Kittens are not toys. These people are idiots.
  3. My favorite part is that by following Calvinism, Jinger, Ben, and Jeremy are basically Puritans. They just don’t care about the “purifying “ the Church of England because it’s 2021, not 1630. Still, I’m sure they are quite concerned with purifying other modern Christian churches. And no, predestination doesn’t mean you can just be an ass on earth because you’re predestined to be saved. It just means that your “good works” won’t save you. You should still do all things that glorify God. Calvinism is at its core a Protestant based theology that separates itself from the Catholic Church and upholds the five “solas” of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (“Scripture alone”): The Bible alone is our highest authority. Sola Fide (“faith alone”): We are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ. Sola Gratia (“grace alone”): We are saved by the grace of God alone. Solus Christus (“Christ alone”): Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King. Soli Deo Gloria (“to the glory of God alone”): We live for the glory of God alone. Source: https://www.christianity.com/church/church-history/the-five-solas-of-the-protestant-reformation.html Thus, I can see no reason why Jim Bob and Michelle would have a problem with Jinger or even Jessa embracing Calvinism. I’m sure all Duggars believe in the five solos because independent Baptists are Protestant. The debate about predestination versus free will is a minor theological difference in the big picture of their basic belief system. I know this post is mostly about religion, but I think it is interesting to discuss exactly what these folks believe outside of their abhorrent homophobic, transphobic bigotry.
  4. Yes he is. The only big difference is that Calvinists believe that before God created Adam, He, in his infinite wisdom, pre-selected every single soul that would ever be born that could be saved. He then sent his son Jesus to die on the cross to atone for the sins of those God had “elected” to be made clean and worthy. In other words, Jesus didn’t die for everyone. He only died for the “elect.” You know you are part of the elect because you will be unable to resist God’s call. I think many folks mistakenly assume that those who think they are part of the “elect” must be really arrogant to presume that God chose them special over others to be saved, but that’s not how it works. Nothing about humans makes them worthy of being saved. God just knew somehow which souls would heed his call. In contrast, the Duggars likely believe that humans have free will and that anyone can choose to accept Christ as their savior, be saved, and go to heaven. It’s a theological difference that boils down to predestination versus free will. My guess is Jim Bob doesn’t care as long as the kids believe in Jesus, read their Bibles, and submit to God’s authority (aka Jim Bob’s authority unless married).
  5. I know Calvinist theology fairly well because I teach Puritan literature, and yes, Jinger has gone full on Calvinism. Her post even includes one of the five solas of Calvinism, and her “testimony” also included references to unconditional election and limited atonement, that make up the letters U and L in what Calvinists call the TULIP. It’s fascinating stuff and it does differ some from most modern non-denomination Christian churches and other Protestant based theology, which is basically Arminianism. This site has a chart that compares the two: https://eljasib.com/en/calvinism-vs-arminianism-five-points/
  6. It literally never occurred to me to not post pictures of my kids swimming in a bathing suit or without their shirt on, but then again, I knew all of my friends on social media. I get that Joy is a bit different than me because Joy and her sisters have millions of followers and thus are more likely to have one of those followers be a predator, but I just don’t know that Joy should be actively worried about that slim possibility. I don’t think the existence of predators should stop people from posting what is a perfectly normal picture of their child. But that’s my opinion. Everyone doesn’t have to agree.
  7. It’s not just that she doesn’t like BLM. She favorited a series of videos on TikTok with racist, homophobic, and transphobic messaging, and yes, I watched five of the videos in question. They were deeply offensive, and there were more on her page than those five. Unfortunately, you can no longer view any of these videos because Olivia has now scrubbed her TikTok. Clearly someone explained to her why those videos are a problem, so she deleted all evidence of them. As a result, I can’t present you with the evidence to prove that she is a bigot, so you can think she’s not if you’d like. Regardless, I’m sure we will all forget about Olivia in about a week.
  8. Racism, homophobia, and transphobia are not beliefs and values. To me, Olivia appears to be an ignorant bigot, and I’m disappointed that she won. At least Korey got his 50K.
  9. I hate that Olivia and Corey won, and not just because Olivia’s social media posts. They have zero chemistry. They’re just friends who said all the right things to win. I doubt they will see each other outside of other random Love Island cast gatherings. In contrast, I do think Will and Kyra will continue to date, and if Bailey and Jeremey lived as close together as Charlie and Alana seemingly do, I think they would also go on a few dates back on the mainland. If Bailey ever takes a trip to New York, I’m sure she’d stop by Jeremy’s place for some off camera fun. Realistically though, they’re a cute summer fling only. Still, I’d love it if they proved me wrong because they’re a beautiful couple who make the most gorgeous babies. Of course, as always, only time will tell. My rule is that if a couple lasts three months or longer off the show, then they were likely genuine on the show. They don’t have to get married and live happily after, but they at least have to put in some effort to continue seeing each other for awhile off the show for me to believe they had a real connection on the show.
  10. Tell me more please. I’ve seen the picture of Shannon in a MAGA hat, so now I’m curious what Olivia posted in the past. ETA: Nevermind. The person above me answered my question as I was writing it. I went and watched some of the TikTok videos Olivia liked in the past, and holy hell is she not someone I would ever want to know. The videos she likes are just awful. If she wins, I will be so mad now that I know who she is beyond just being a fake wannabe famewhore. Why are producers casting these type of people anyway? If Jeremy and Bailey Will, I will be content. This season was a dumpster fire. I like my Love Island to have at least two couples who seem to genuinely like each other equally, and if at least one couple has fallen madly in love, that’s even better. Will and Kyra come closest now that Shannon and Josh are long gone, but I don’t see them as equally invested in each other like season 1 winners Zac and Elizabeth. Zac and Elizabeth were adorable, and even though they eventually broke up, their feelings for each other at the time were real. I get that all the islanders are young, dumb, Instagram famewhores, but every once in awhile, true feelings develop and it’s cute to watch. This season, I expected Will and Kyra to be that couple, but he blew it at Casa, and I hope Kyra realizes someday that he screwed her out of her share of the prize with his late night make out sessions with Flora.
  11. I wonder how much of the distrust about Will comes down to a language barrier. As was rightfully pointed out to me, Will didn’t actually cheat on Kyra with Flora. He made out with Flora a few times but ultimately chose Kyra because he liked Kyra more. The romantic in me wishes he didn’t explore his options at Casa, but he didn’t really do anything wrong there. Bottom line, I think Kyra and Will are into each other, and they will likely last longer than any other couple on the show, but they won’t win because he made out with Flora and because the other girls, particularly Olivia, have done a great job painting Will as the villain to increase their own chances of winning. I’m just bitter that Olivia and Korey will likely win because I think they are lying their asses off about their relationship. Unfortunately, the show clearly wants them to win too as evidenced by the clips of other islanders talking about how “genuine” their connection is. For some reason, the producers have decided to tank Will and Kyra and go all in on Olivia and Korey. I assume that’s because the producers noted how much the fans had turned on Will after Casa, so they want to give the fans what they want, a happy ending for Olivia and Korey. My last hope is that Jeremy and Bailey win because they do seem equally attracted to each other and self-aware enough to know that they will likely never see each other again. I’d take them as the winners over Olivia an Korey because I don’t feel like they’re trying to sell me a bullshit story of their “love.”
  12. Least surprising news ever. ;) I want to root for Will and Kyra over Shannon and Corey because it’s so obvious how desperate Olivia and Corey are to sell themselves as the stronger couple, but I think Will being unable to make that official commitment may keep them from winning. Olivia just keeps repeating over and over how her and Corey had to grow as individuals first to become this strong couple, and I don’t buy any of it for a second. At least Will and Kyra genuinely have the hots for each other even if Will is not ready to settle into a relationship. Bailey and Jeremy have cute chemistry together, but she seems too young for him. Alana and Charlie won’t last, and Andrea and Trina will just be friends. At this point, I don’t want any of them to win, so I think this season has been a total bust.
  13. Cash readily admitted that she wanted Cinco more than Charlie, so I don’t understand how anyone on Twitter can be mad at Charlie for moving on when he did. Every conversation with Cash involved Cinco, so of course he moved on. I think if he was smart and in it for the money, he would have stuck with Cash, but the fact that he didn’t makes me respect him a bit more.
  14. I watched the entire video, and it’s not clear if it’s an existing house or a model home in the pictures. The kitchen makes me think it’s a model, and the narrator did say that Jessa is asking for “some changes” to the home before they close, which to me suggests that Jessa is asking for some changes to the builder’s plan. Who knows for sure. Either way, it’s a lovely home, and I have no doubt that Jessa and Ben will be paying cash for it. The long closing has to be either because it’s a new build or because Jessa wants to wait several months so Fern is at least sleeping through the night when they move. Of course, this video may be total bullshit. That’s also a very good possibility.
  15. Poor Josh. I never warmed up to Josh and Shannon on the show, but he’s going through hell right now, and I appreciate that Shannon left with him. I don’t think she had a choice though. There is zero chance she could still win the show if she stayed without him, so the cynic in me doesn’t give her that much credit for leaving with him. She knew she had to go with him or look like the most cold-hearted person to ever grace Love Island. Now if she stays with him outside of the villa as he grieves, I might start to support their relationship a bit more. Either way, I cried for Josh while watching the show. Weirdly, I’m hoping the new guy goes for Trina over the new girl whose name I can’t remember. New Brazilian man is hot, and if Olivia still stays with Korey over him, she’s doing so for the money only. She may decide she has a better chance at winning the show if she stays loyal to an OG. There is zero chance Olivia and Korey work on the outside. Of course, the hot Brazilian will also dump Olivia immediately after leaving the villa. He knows that Olivia is popular with voters, so he’s hoping to charm her enough to pick him so he can at least make the final three if not win the show.
  16. Not if it’s a new build. I think Jessa and Ben can easily afford 300K with their tv money.
  17. In the Shannon versus Will situation, I think both sides could be true. Shannon is likely trying to take down Will and Kyra because she knows they are the competition to win the money. However, Will did go too far with Flo on Casa Amor, so Shannon is right that it is his fault that he and Kyra were in the bottom 3 to begin with. Still, Shannon only cares because taking down Will increases her chances of winning the money. She doesn’t care about Kyra at all. I wonder how much the producers pushed Will to “explore” things with Flo. To me, he often looked uncomfortable after their kisses, and I think he knew after the first day that he was going back to Kyra. His mistake was not kicking Flo out of his bed after the first night and telling the boys that he was debating his options. Both of those choices are now being used against him by Shannon (and the viewing audience). In other obvious news, Korey is not into Olivia, Olivia is desperate to stay, Cash keeps talking about Cinco in every conversation with Charlie but is somehow shocked that he’s sick of her bullshit, and all three new girls are more interesting than all five original girls who have managed to stay in the villa well past their time.
  18. What I noticed in that video is how much Ivy looks like Spurgeon. With that towel on her head, her face is near identical to Spurgeon’s at the same age. Super cute. I hate Jessa’s religious beliefs, but her and Ben do make pretty babies.
  19. Out of sheer boredom, I watched the full weddings of Jill and Derrick and Jessa and Ben. The sermons in both were near identical in the message: wives submit to the authority of your husband who is god appointed leader of the family. Basically both sermons relied heavily on the writings of Paul to describe the proper position of wives under the authority of their husbands. Of course, both dressed that up nicely by explaining just how much the husband must love their wives and sacrifice for them as Christ loved the church and sacrificed even his own life for it. But it was still gross how much both sermons focused on wifely submission.
  20. I still like Amber and Barnett. I think they’re hilarious and authentic. I also think Amber is 100% correct that Jessica was just virtue signaling with that gift attempt. If Jessica took one ounce of responsibility for her actions and words, then I might have had some sympathy for her and her crocodile tears at this reunion. Instead she was like “what did I do besides date your man once” as if she didn’t attempt to break up Amber and Barnett after they were engaged. I still don’t get Damien and Gianna at all. They are both a total mess, who clearly need a whole lot of professional help. I can’t imagine why Damien thought it would be perfectly fine to bring another woman to this reunion party when he’s still with Gianna. Then he acted all shocked and offended that his actions bothered her. He’s a passive aggressive jerk. I’d say she could do better, but she so clearly has her own issues. I also did not need to hear about how Mark “cheated” on LC with another woman, who is now pregnant with his child, and gave them both COVID. Again, I think Amber was right. I don’t think Mark was ever exclusive with LC and while it’s sucks that she ended up with COVID, that was a risk for everyone who was out there dating during this pandemic. It makes total sense though why Diamond was upset, having only heard LC’s version of events. And I don’t think either Amber or Diamond communicated effectively or appropriately during that conversation, but at least Amber acknowledged that she understood why Diamond was upset. Diamond was clearly not interested in hearing Mark’s version as presented by Amber. Finally, Carlton once again proved that he is incapable of having a conversation with someone who doesn’t 100% agree with his point of view. Poor Lauren only said that Diamond was upset that he didn’t tell her that he was bisexual in the pods. Carlton is not wrong that there is homophobia and biphobia in the black community, but he’s still not willing to concede that he should have told the truth from the start. A person’s sexuality is a huge part of his or her identity, so not disclosing that critical information is just wrong. Instead, he continues to blame Diamond for being a bigot. And I don’t think he’s even wrong about that. Diamond would have rejected him for being bisexual no matter when he told her the truth, but because he waited until after they were engaged to tell her, everyone blames him for the break up. However, none of that is Lauren’s fault, so his rudeness towards her was just wrong too.
  21. I can’t wait to watch Will give his nonsense explanation of his behavior with Flo. We all know Kyra is going to cry a bunch but ultimately forgive him and agree that it was just a “test” that they passed in the end. Vomit. I also think Josh happily made out with as many girls as he could, but that will get brushed under the rug as the show sells us the story line that Josh and Shannon are madly in love and loyal to each other since day 1. You just know they’re going to break up within in 90 days of leaving the island. I’m looking forward to the Cinco and Cash drama. Poor Trina is going to quickly realize that Cinco didn’t really pick her. He picked Cash. I loved watching his sad face when Cash came back all glowing with Charlie. Serves him right. But I have a feeling Cash will pick Cinco in the end. For whatever reason, Cash seems convinced Cinco is her future husband. Basically, this show is all about young, hot people making out and making bad decisions, which to be fair, is what young people do in real life anyway.
  22. Will was my favorite, but even he knows he went too far. It’s fine for him to pick Flo over Kyra if that’s what he wants, but he said it himself: he was being disrespectful. He also clearly made an agreement with Kyra to only kiss other women in the challenges, which is why he attempted to create a bullshit loophole by playing truth and dare with Flo on that porch swing. He’s not fooling anyone, and even if he does ultimately choose Kyra, he knows damn right well that watching those scenes is going to break her heart. And Korey was strongly encouraging all the guys to act like it was a bachelor’s party, which I guess in his mind means make out and grind on all the women you want. Newsflash Korey, most women are not okay with their partner cheating on them before the wedding. There are no free passes. I hate to say it but I get why all the women want to make out with Cinco. He’s not relationship material at all, but he’s sexy. He just has that charisma and machismo combination that is very sexy at face value. Of course, long term, he’s a total player who will likely won’t be faithful until he’s at least 40.
  23. That conversation between Will and Olivia was just as awkward as I anticipated. Will flat out gave her the “I’m flattered but” speech. 😄😄 I do think the relationship between Cash and Cinco is more complicated though because they are friends and because they had some pretty heated make out sessions in bed before he left her for Trina. I have yet to see him making out with Trina like that. And now that Cinco knows his coupling with Trina isn’t popular with the fans, I expect him to have another change of heart and run back to Cash. I’d feel bad for Trina, but karma is a bitch sometimes. I’m not happy that they left us with that cliffhanger though. I’m going to guess that the girls save Jovanny, and the boys save Aimee. I have no idea though. I just don’t think anyone is particularly interested in saving Jeremy or new boy Wes. Usually, they save the person they’ve known the longest, so for the boys, it comes down to Jovanny and Jeremy, and I’m sure everyone likes Jovanny more. For the girls, it comes down to Aimee and Olivia, and this one is tougher to predict, I think.
  24. That pact is going to backfire badly. There is zero chance Will is leaving Kyra for Olivia. And Cinco made his choice awhile ago, so I don’t know why Cashay wants to humiliate herself further. They both seem delusional at this point, particularly Olivia. At least Cash has a history with Cinco. As I recall, Cash and Cinco had several make out sessions in bed at night when they were coupled up, so I get why she thinks he still might be into her. However, I’ve never seen Will do anything but hang all over Kyra, so Olivia’s hope seems to come out of nowhere. I’m just glad I no longer have to watch Olivia pretend to be at all interested in Jiovanni. As a couple, they are painfully boring to watch.
  25. Jessa’s birth videos both trended on YouTube. The last time I looked, Part 2 was the fifth most popular video with 1M views. That kind of view count makes her a successful content creator with far higher numbers than any Bates girl has achieved. In other words, there is plenty of interest in Jessa and baby #4’s gender and name. Jesse will end up making more money independently on YouTube and Instagram than she ever did on TLC where we assume her daddy was doling out stipends. Also, I like the name Fern. It’s trendy, but not too trendy, and it’s cute. I wish Jessa was done now that she has two boys and two girls, but we all know that’s unlikely.
