Yeah, Homelander really doesn't have a good role model for how to be a parent so he is doing the best he knows how, it's just that his best is pretty horrible. It is very much how the cycle of abuse works, Homelander had a terrible childhood, he wants to do better but what was done to him so shaped who he is that he just doesn't have any clue what "better" actually means. That is what makes him truly scary to me. That he is the hero in the world of his head. He truly believes that we mere humans are like ants to us, there to be squished when they become intrusive, or just when the mood hits. He does truly believe he and Ryan are above humans, that they are gods.

It reads to me like she loved her husband more than her daughter which is heartbreaking. I can't imagine finding out someone I loved would do such a thing, but I also can't imagine loving someone who abused my child. I think that knowledge would supersede any love I felt, which would be replaced by the most profound sense of betrayal.

I agree, of the Seven he's probably one of the "nicer" ones (grading on a HUGE curve here). I do think he could be redeemed and that moment, as you said, might be his turning point. He felt what it's like to be an actual hero in that moment. Hopefully he liked it and wants more. I think he could be a big help to the Boys and they need it. Their plot armour will only get them so far (well, to the end of the shows run, but still, it's wearing thin).

I can understand people not liking the character of Oliver, he was kind of annoying, but the fact that people took it out on the actor is just, I mean, I can't imagine being hated by strangers because of a short job I had as a child. What the fuck is wrong with people? The fact that there are enough people out there who believe fiction is real explains a lot about the state of society.

I was thinking about this sort of thing the other day. In this case the animal carnage was so over the top I was okay with it, but in general, I can't stand violence, especially towards fluffy animals. If I see a punchy, kicky fight I tend to look away and mute it until I think it's over. But I love The Boys which is basically all violence all the time, except for short naked/sex breaks that also tend to involve violence so... Thing is, it's such over the top violence, I could watch a million heads blow up, or Hughie's dad rip hearts out left and right but I can't handle watching someone get punched in the face, or the worst, kicked when they are laying down. That, I just have the worst reaction to. Just writing about it is making me wince. I was disappointed to see Jeffrey Dean Morgan show up. I know he's a Kripke fave but I have never liked him. I've never seen The Walking Dead so it's not because of that character. He's just one of those people I don't like watching. I think it's partly because I know people adore him and I don't get why so I just dislike him more to compensate. lol (I'm not a rational person. I've come to terms with it.)

I will admit, I have written real person fanfic for people I thought had great chemistry, but only for my own amusement, never shared, never would, and I can't think of any where I actually thought anything was going on IRL, it was more, "oh, this is an interesting situation I'd like to explore". I may have a very vivid imagination but I do my best to separate the fact from the fiction, in public anyway ;)

Seriously. Finding out that Vance and Farley didn't like each other doesn't affect how I feel about I Love Lucy but it does raise my estimation of them as actors. I never had a clue they didn't get on. Same with Lucy and Vivienne, they did their job and played BFFs perfectly. There are co-workers I have that I love, and we have a blast working together and hang out outside of work. I also have co-workers I don't think anything about as soon as I leave the office. I'm still professional and even cordial to them as it just makes my life easier. We have this odd expectation that actors all have to be BFFs and adore hanging out outside of work. Sure, it's great if they're all friends, but it is fine if they aren't, so long as they are doing their job and not hostile towards one another. That is when I find it harder to watch them play nice. I am fine with working with someone you don't like, but not if that person is making your work day intolerable. It is scary how hard it is for some people to differentiate between fiction and reality. It is one of the reasons I don't like all these "fake" history shows that seem to be the trend. History is getting distorted enough without us actively lying about it.

It all depends on the situation for me. Nothing is black and white. I have a harder time giving up some things after finding out their creator was a dirtbag than others. But once I find out someone has done something that I personally am against (murder, rape, using their power to harm other people, harming animals, etc) I won't watch anything they do going forward. You can't miss what you don't watch in the first place. If they are dead then I have no problem watching their stuff as they can't profit from it any longer.

Wow, really? That's disappointing. When I went to see it they were both amazing. I thought her playfulness was perfect for Marion and he seemed like he was having the time of his life, they both did, the whole cast did really. It was just great fun all around. Maybe you caught them on a bad night. :(

That makes the CGI nightmare fuel of the movie even worse! The movie cats were terrifying mutants. I think just a recording of a stage performance of the show would have done much better. Speaking of, I would kill for a filmed version of Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster's Music Man. I have the music from the show and that gives me some serious warm fuzzies, but I'm a visual gal and would love to see Hugh and Sutton in those roles again.

I felt kind of dirty rooting for him, but yeah, I don't care if they were "just doing their job" their job was to torture a child who didn't ask to be born with super powers, they got what they deserved. Homelander is a horrible, horrible human being, but I will never stop feeling bad for the little child who was raised to become Homelander. He never asked for any of this, and by the time he was old enough to make decisions about who he wanted to be, he was so far gone there was no way he could choose good. You don't get treated like a monster/god your whole life and grow up to be compassionate. That just wasn't ever going to happen. Despite how pure evil Homelander is, he is still a fascinating and complex character. That's pretty impressive since most bad guys who are as unrepentantly evil as him feel incredibly one note. And as a testament to how good Anthony's acting is, I think if I ever ran into him IRL it would take all the strength I have not to run screaming in the other direction. lol

You watched Cats!??! Are the producers paying for your therapy? (sorry, the most I've seen of Cats was the "everything wrong with..." on YT and even that was too much. I still wonder what what kind of drugs made anyone think making that movie was a good idea, and where can I get some.

I'm So Disappointed In You: Celebrity Missteps
Mabinogia replied to OtterMommy's topic in Everything Else TV
Because of that very fact, JT could have really spun this into a positive if he took responsibility and used it as a jumping point to campaign for people to be more responsible. A whole "if it could happen to me, it could happen to you" sort of, be more careful when you drink and set up a "get home" plan before hand. Other than not drinking, the best way to avoid drunk driving is to have a plan to get home BEFORE you start drinking. Once you start drinking your ability to make the right choices dwindles. Instead he's denying it making himself look like a shit and doing no one any good. Good job you selfish dick! (that's directed at JT, in case that wasn't clear).- 1.4k replies

I'm So Disappointed In You: Celebrity Missteps
Mabinogia replied to OtterMommy's topic in Everything Else TV
Because I know that drunk driving kills, I'm all for an overzealous, stickler for the rules who doesn't give Timberlake a pass just because he's famous. You go copper! JT can suck it. I would have forgiven the lapse in judgement if he just owned up to it, took his very just punishment and learned from this. The fact he's fighting it means he is far more likely to learn nothing and get behind the wheel drunk again. He shouldn't be cancelled for this but he should be fined, do community service, take some kind of "don't drink and drive" classes, or whatever the normal punishment is for what he did.- 1.4k replies

I missed that. So it could be that Mum is really there and gave Dad the V. As much as I like the imagining mum theory because it parallels Butcher with his wife, I am also intrigued by the fact that Hughie's mum might actually know about V and gave it to his dad. Maybe as a way to make up for leaving Hughie, like she knows how much he needs his dad so she made the hard choice for him. Whatever happens, I hope it gives Simon Pegg more to do because I adore him.
-
They made a point of showing some blue fluid going through his tubes so it is most likely he was V'd. The question is, by who. It was either Hughie who has been imagining his mother was there for reasons, or it was his mother who really was there. If it was his mother, the question becomes how did she get the V if it was in Hughie's pocket, provided it was the same V and not that she had some from another source (unlikely, and rather contrived, but this is tv and I wouldn't put it past them to think it was a clever twist). I feel like the most likely is that Hughie is imagining his mom is there and that he gave his dad the V but his brain is "protecting" him think she did it. It is funny how the mom really being at the hospital and not a figment of his mind would now be more of a twist than her being imagined.
-
Have we seen his mom interact with anyone else? It could be that she is real, and does have POA it's just that she isn't actually at the hospital. I don't think her or Becca are meant to be ghosts so much as a manifestation of Butcher and Hughie's minds, so his mom can be around but just isn't who we are seeing him interact with in the hospital. I honestly hadn't considered she wasn't really there until this thread, but it does make sense to me and I like the idea of it.

Homelander being socially stunted is a given. I wonder if Sage was the smartest person alive, but each time she lobotomizes herself and her brain regenerates she loses a bit of intelligence. She might not realize it, but it would be very fascinating if she did, but she is so desperate to "turn off her brain" now and then that she has accepted it and masking the loss with manipulation and hubris. Honestly, if she's not playing some kind of long game that will end up with Homelander's destruction I do have a hard time buying her as the smartest person alive. Either way, though, she is pretty much a pscychopath as she doesn't care who dies in her quest for whatever her end game is.

I'm glad you found a better place. No one should be made to feel uncomfortable when they are just trying to do their job. I was about to say I've been lucky that I've not experienced something like that at work, and then I thought, it is so wrong that it would be considered "lucky" rather than normal that I haven't experienced sexual harassment at work. Ugh, this world.

Looking Dapper: Favorite Fashion From TV
Mabinogia replied to RealHousewife's topic in Everything Else TV
Yeah, she's totally thinking "Topanga wouldn't wear this". I loved early seasons Topanga. I agree that the longer the show went on the more conventional "pretty girl" she became. Sadly, probably to make her a "suitable" love interest. Shame. This is my Topanga: -

The only thing I don't like is the sleeves. They look itchy. -
The ABC promo people seem to take the worst pictures of the contestants. There is not one guy that I find appealing looking. They're all so generic.
