  1. 6 hours ago, graybrown bird said: "... living under the tenants of Bill Gothard ..."? Who wrote that? Maybe that's the explanation for their mysterious LA living arrangement? Gothard's tenants are paying!
  2. Reaching for goldfish crackers. And then fell asleep while clutching them.
  3. I wonder who Jeremy roots for when his teams play? I guess it depends on if he's at the game at Dodger Stadium. Ohhhh I'd say he probably bases it on which gives him more attention/freebies....
  4. Lol. Not likely. I mean, I'm sure he was specifically selected for the honor of marrying whatshername because he, uh, has no feet.
  5. Now it's all making sense - if they don't eat, they look younger!!! Actually, no. Nothing about this family makes sense.....
  6. Searching for David's balls. Yeah, makes sense. Probably hard to find under all that gut. (I'M SORRY! I COULDN'T HELP IT!)
  7. I paid for private care for my dad in the last 3 years of his life (he had mild dementia, but was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end and lived 3 months after diagnosis). Up until his diagnosis, I hired "companions" (not medical personnel) that would drive him places (to swim class, museums, library, church, doctor appointments, and out to lunch every day). I had a "team" of companions so that he was never alone, but the schedule was somewhat flexible so that his companions could take days off as needed - they worked it out among themselves. We paid them $25/hour, and I based that on what the local agencies were charging for that service (except I hired the caretakers directly). There was no housework at all, just entertainment (although yard work was sometimes done simply because my dad loved flowers and plants and playing in the dirt). Sometimes they just played scrabble for hours. But, it was hands-on during the entire shift. He needed nursing care at the end, round-the-clock, which we opted for in lieu of a nursing home. For that we paid $35/hour, again, based on local agency fees. At that time there was little to do, as he was semi-conscious or sleeping much of the time. (The nurses administered morphine, treated bedsores, kept him clean/warm/dry, and made sure he didn't fall out of bed - he was restless at times). Probably 75% of the time the attendant had nothing to do. I didn't ask for any other services, especially since there were often family members visiting. For reference, this was in western Massachusetts. He passed away in March, before the recent dramatic rise in prices for everything. When I say "we" paid, it was cash and actually Dad's own money that would've gone to us (his children) as per his will. My siblings were slightly annoyed with me that I so generously spent their inheritance, but my feeling on this was "it's HIS money, HE earned it, and HE should be getting the fruits of his labor. YOU should not be basing your budgeting on a potential inheritance." I'm the oldest, and historically all these family management tasks have fallen to me; I know how to make them listen!
  8. Hard to imagine functioning in society in this day & age with no internet access. I mean, I even need internet access to get my medical records. That will certainly make life more complicated for him. Welp - ya play, ya pay!
  9. In another post, you mentioned that you collect nesting dolls. There is a HUGE nesting doll store right down the road from me! You would love it! The building is painted very garish colors, impossible to miss, so everyone uses it as a landmark. Hard to believe that they can stay in business with such a niche product, but it is a surprisingly busy place! I've only been there once - to buy a unique wedding present - and I was absolutely overwhelmed. Hundreds and hundreds - possibly thousands - of nesting dolls. They even have blank ones that you can paint yourself! If you're ever in NYC, this store is an hour and 15 minutes north on the commuter train. Very close to the train station. If you love nesting dolls, it is absolutely worth the trip! https://hvmag.com/life-style/nesting-dolls-brings-color-and-culture-to-wappingers-falls/ https://highlandscurrent.org/2017/12/17/from-russia-with-love/
  10. Carrots? There are carrots in there? I see an orange package, but I'm preeeeeetty sure it contains Reese's Pieces.... Maybe she meant for him to hop to the store?
  11. As you've probably guessed from my name, I skate a lot. Specifically, hockey. Last week, a new guy joined one of the leagues I'm in, and the name on the back of his jersey was "BOOKS". I automatically thought "Jeremy? Plays hockey?" Never mind that I'm about 3000 miles away from California - when I saw "BOOKS", that was the first thing that popped into my head!
  12. Does anyone here play the daily Spelling Bee game in the New York Times? Simple premise: come up with as many words as possible from the provided letters (which vary daily). Today the letters were G-R-A-T-I-F-Y (so obviously the word GRATIFY was among them), but, get this: it wouldn't accept GRIFTY!!! Obviously the editor doesn't know Jill.
  13. We have a fully electric car ('18 Chevy Bolt). My husband is an avid data-collector, and he's determined that, with strictly home-charging use, the cost of the added electricity has been approximately 1/4 the cost of gas we would've used. So, yes, our electric bill has gone up, but overall we're still paying considerably less. We installed a level-2 charger in our garage (so there was an up-front cost, of I think about $600) but we've long since "made that back". It takes a few hours to fully charge, but that's not noticeable since I plug it in at night and it's ready-to-go in the morning. We get about 250 miles on a full charge in the summer and 150 in the winter - which is more than adequate for the commuting & errands-around-town. I took two long trips in the Bolt - 300 miles to Montreal and 200 miles to Boston. I stopped at a rest area in Lake George on the way to Montreal, where it took about an hour to charge (that was a fast charger, and it cost 30c/minute, so, under $20). I stopped in Hartford on the way to Boston, "just in case", and charged for about 20 minutes - also 30c/minute, so $6. For each trip, I had to do some research to locate chargers on the way, but there are many websites with charger maps, so not a big deal. [and now you should be able to triangulate where I live.... !!] There are also many "free" places to charge. For 3 years, I drove weekly to western Massachusetts to visit my dad, and there was a public charger a mile away from his facility. I parked there and walked. Some might find that an inconvenience, but I enjoyed the walk - a way to "brace myself" on the way there, and "decompress" on the way back. In dad's final days, when I stayed at a hotel one town over from his facility, there was a free charger at a nearby supermarket. (I only charged there at night, and got all my food there, so I wouldn't feel like I was "stealing" from them or their other customers!) Some hotels also have free chargers. Overall, I LOVE the car. It's so peppy! It's hilarious when I pull up to a stoplight and a 20-something with a loud sportscar comes up beside me.... and I leave him in the dust when the light turns green! (What can I say, I'm easily amused). I'm also kind of attached to the car, because it's the first one we ever bought new - in fact, the first one (in almost 50 years of driving) that wasn't a stick shift! (It replaced my 90's-era Honda Civic). It has all these fancy features that are standard to everyone else, like push-button keys and push-button windows, and an Apple screen! Makes me feel so modern!
  14. If "Jesus our Lord and Saviour receives all the glory" for this miracle, not the medical professionals, then why go to the hospital?
  15. And I'm betting that they plucked the coins right back out as soon as the camera was off.
  16. Yeah. Just check the nostrils. The Forsyth gene is strong....
  17. Do they live in Wayne's World? 🤣😂 And she's probably just trying to "talk fancy" - I'll bet it's 70s-era paneling.
  18. Was it ever proven that potential suitors had to fill out an application? Or was it (possibly just) a storyline? Did Anna have to "apply"? Were females screened for housewifeability, or fertility?
  19. "It keeps us on track spiritually and our flesh cast down" What's a flesh cast, and how do you keep it down?!?
  20. Yes, well, those things do make me want to heave.... 🤪
