Bort October 22, 2018 Share October 22, 2018 Quote When Bell makes the executive call to utilize Julian Booth's medical devices, rather than the hospital's usual products, Kit and AJ must stop their momentary feuding in order to team up against him. Elsewhere in the hospital, Conrad and Nic work to make a child's dreams come true after finding out his cancer has returned and the rest of the staff takes notice of Julian and Devon's new friendship. cathmed October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 First, a rather melancholy episode with the little brother dying; nice gesture to help him realize his policeman dream of capturing The Germ. I was relieved that his dying wasn't the last scene of the episode. Poor Conrad, he's lost two patients now--through no fault of his own (Lilly and now the little boy)--so how will this affect his and Nic's relationship? Will they possibly think of trying again (another child?) or does this resurface the too painful memories of their loss? I thought the "flying through skylight" doctor (can't remember his name) might have worked for Quo Vadis as who else will forgive a medical student loan AND command a 6- figures salary?! It wasn't revealed in this episode and maybe he simply works for another marketing firm. Interesting if he'll return for another episode. Of course, there will be problems with the Quo Vadis product and no surprise that Dr. Austin's mentor, Dr. Benedict--as in Benedict Arnold, lol--is as unethical, greedy, immoral and unprofessional as HODAD. Bell has not moral compass as long as he makes more money (and profit for hospital). He was bought just like Dr. Benedict. How disappointed will Dr. Austin be when he learns his mentor has sold out for good old-fashioned avarice? I'm not sure what this relationship is brewing between Dr. Bell and Kit; I wonder if she will become another casualty/adversary of Bell's by trying to do the right thing? I don't like the Dr. Pravish and Julian "connection/budding friendship". There's clearly more undercurrent to the story and it doesn't make sense that he'd be interested in another woman. He's always worked long hours, been faithful to an understanding fiance, and suddenly, he can't resist the sales woman? So, for him to possibly/potentially take that step, with Julian, makes me lose respect for his character/him.. 1 2 Link to comment
Jlina October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 Hmmmm, yeah brought tears out of my eyes. But, no doctor, ever, hugs all over his patient like Conrad did. That would freak me out. So maybe he returns the baseball mitt and falls into a ready made family? I hope the show doesn't gloss it over, or doesn't do that again. I took the end scene to mean Bell caved and did not do the deal, wow! That woman surgeon is elegantly ruthless. I like her! Link to comment

Giuseppe October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 Sooo...nobody else lost the dialogue for the last act of the show? I got the background noise track, but couldn't hear anybody speaking when they came back from the last commercial break. Had to turn the closed captioning on. Was back to normal by the time 9-1-1 came on. Weird. I liked this episode, though. The Germ sequence was really cute and the two brothers were adorable. 3 Link to comment
twoods October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 Damn it, show. You haven’t had a death in a while and then go full fledged killing a kid with leukemia. That last scene was so heartbreaking. I’ve seen the mom in other stuff and have always liked her acting, and thought she sold the heartbreak of a parent perfectly. I liked the brother as well. i like that this show is showing the ugly side of medicine, with doctors selling themselves out for big pharma and medical devices. It’s a big problem and one of the reasons why medical costs are so freaking high. I wonder if ex resident is going to come back with a valve complication, and Dr. Austin will find out that his mentor sold his soul to a device company. Kit continues to kick ass and hope to see more of her. Glad she’s not making a pass at Bell. Dont go there, Devon! 1 8 Link to comment
Happy Harpy October 23, 2018 Share October 23, 2018 (edited) I loved most of the episode, except the COTW. I regret they went too tearjerker this season so far (except last week) because I FF'ed most of the kids' storyline in spite of no miracle save at the end; since my melodrama tolerance which isn't high to start with is now extremely low. Moreover, it was merely a COTW therefore it felt as if there was no other goal but make the audience cry, unlike Lily's death which was part of a bigger storyline and had all the more strength. All this lessened the impact for me and what I watched I found well done and well acted but predictable and cliché. If this case has lasting consequences, I'll change my mind. It did allow for the residents to have scenes together, which was nice. I had some Mina/Nic friendship, yay. So Nurse Whatsername and Feldman are a thing. The way things are going, they're going to come back from Vegas one day for shift as husband and wife, before Devon or Priya or Nic and Conrad get married (why do I see a proposal somewhere this season?). Is it me or Austin and Dr Nice Butcher have a kind of opposites attract chemistry? I wasn't sure last week because their scene was so short but I definitely would love to see them interacting more as frenemies anyway and I wouldn't mind if it was headed to more. I actually did like how they portrayed Austin here. Many TV characters who are supposed to be insufferable in universe aren't that bad or are villains, so kudos to the writers for not shying away from the unsavory sides of the character while giving him some believable good sides. He's truly an egotist, truly a jerk, but he's truly brilliant and he isn't unfeeling either, he's able to trust some people enough to be betrayed. Still saw zero spark between Kit and Bell in spite of the innuendo, but I do like them as "buddies" who manipulate each other, although in her case it's for the greater good. She's smart but not unfeeling, she doesn't take any BS while not being unreasonable, I like it. She could be an older Mina, with a temper more rounded by age and experience. I officially can't stand the She-Raptor and I love whenever Conrad or Austin call her out upon what she truly is, a vulture. I do hope she's truly a BISC and she'll reveal as evil as Lane or I'll ask the writers to put their sob story and the sympathy card they're trying to play where the sun doesn't shine. Devon, if you can't weather a few months of administrative annoyance and party planning with your GF, how are you going to weather actual life crises for years? I knew this storyline had the potential to hurt his character and here it is, he sounds shallow and immature. I wish I shared Mina's optimism but the writers used Bradley's return to throw a flight of anvils re: doomed Devon/Priya. I start, like last year, to see some threads shaping up into a big storyline, a Kit/Austin/Conrad alliance vs Bell/She-Raptor/Elon Musk Proxy with Marshall and his unknown motivations in the middle. I'm interested to see where this is going. Edited October 23, 2018 by Happy Harpy 1 3 Link to comment

I thought they were going for some kind of tense, no speaking, communicate with your eyes and hand gestures only type of scene. Glad I wasn't the only one that happened to. 1 Link to comment

Nicole Leah October 25, 2018 Share October 25, 2018 I really thought they were going somewhere with the seizures that the (non-dying) kid had. I mean, there didn't seem to be any reason to put it in the plot if they aren't going to do anything with it. My question was what was the significance of Conrad with the baseball glove near the end? That didn't make sense to me but maybe i missed something. I've only wstched a few episodes. Link to comment
twoods October 26, 2018 Share October 26, 2018 The older brother left his glove in the room and Conrad found it. He loves that glove, but figured it wasn’t important to him anymore since his brother passed away. At least, that’s what I think they were going with that scene. 1 Link to comment

The dialogue between him and Conrad pretty much confirms that interpretation. Quote HENRY: Do you know what I wanna be when I grow up? DR. HAWKINS: A baseball player? HENRY: Not anymore. Now I wanna be a scientist or doctor or something. Find a cure for cancer that could save Jasper. 1 Link to comment
