Ghost of TWOP Past February 21 Share February 21 As another librarian I can tell you that it's quite likely your library bought full sets but the disks were rapidly rendered unusable and had to be discarded. People are shockingly hard on our DVDs. We get things back that look like they've been dragged across asphalt. 1 Link to comment

As a lifelong library patron and former library employee, I understand how terribly people can treat books, DVDs, etc. (the time a patron returned a book with several pages soaked in what we all agreed was blood is etched in my memory), so I agree these disks may have become damaged or worn. But it is odd that the 2 libraries in my library system that have the PM DVDs are both missing Volume 2 of Season 9 and only those from the entire series. Perhaps they were faulty from the manufacturer? I'm now into the early part of season 8. I cannot believe they never updated the decor (if one can call it that) of Perry's office. His desk looks like a project from a high school shop class. And the walls - ugh. Link to comment

My theory is based on experiences such as: Before The Chicago Defender newspaper archives were digitized, the college library where I was employed had to move the microfilm reels to a locked cabinet because of theft issues. WorldCat shows just 18 libraries currently hold the Defender microfilm, and my former library is no longer one of them. Anyhoo — Amazon is showing volume 2 of season 9 for 15 bucks, which is kind of a “steal,” heh: amazon.com/Perry-Mason-Ninth-Final-Season/dp/B00CL0MCN0 1 Link to comment
dttruman March 31 Share March 31 Perry Mason apparently is becoming real popular, especially with my cable service and three networks that will carry this show. We all know that MeTV carries it twice, once in the morning and once at night, and the JUSTICE channel shows 4 consecutive episodes than repeats them late night. Now the GFAM channel will carry Perry Mason starting April 1st at around 2 pm 3 Link to comment
chessiegal March 31 Share March 31 I've noticed there are multiple channels showing Perry on any given day. I haven't found one episode I haven't seen before. There are some shows I can watch more than once. As much as I like Perry, he isn't one of them. 1 Link to comment

Especially the ones where you see the side of these special characters as in the "Weary Watchdog". It's not the case itself, but at the beginning when Della asks Perry how far would he go for a friend. Watch Della's reaction the next time it comes on. Link to comment

Yes, Della's reaction is good. 3 Link to comment

I'd much rather watch Perry, even it I've seen it a million times than MSW. Something about dragging eighties fashions into the nineties bugs the crap out of me. Link to comment

Anyway, I missed the denouement of a Perry Mason episode that aired this morning on MeTV, 9.23 "The Case of the Tsarina's Tiara," so I was able to find it on FreeVee and Pluto (apps on my Roku TVs). I too always use closed captioning, and was surprised to see at about the 45 minute mark on both FreeVee and Pluto: [VYACHESLAV GERZNOV] She never told me about this bullshit Dorrow which was a miss-translation for: [VYACHESLAV GERZNOV] She never told me about this Bolshevik Dorrow Character Gerznov was played by Russian émigré and character actor Leonid Kinskey, whose accent may have confused the transcriber (human or machine) and/or "Bolshevik" was not in the word list used by the transcriber. I guess it will be many months before it airs again on MeTV, so I won't get to see how it is transcribed into closed captions there. 😒 On 8/26/2023 at 11:45 AM, GHScorpiosRule said: From the Retro thread. This episode aired on feTV last Saturday night. Watching it now and I doubt that this channel will show “bullshit” in the closed captioning as it edits out innocuous words. But will return and state what was used at the 45 minute mark. ETA: it’s at the 52 minute mark and closed captioning spelled the name “Boleshevik” so fetv got it right. We’ll see if iMeTV does to when season nine airs. 9.23, "The Case of the Tsarina's Tiara," did air on MeTV July 4 at 9am EDT. Caption on MeTV: Caption on FreeTV: It's linguistically interesting that the captioning that incorrectly interpreted "Bolshevik" as "bullshit" added the word "with," which means the character of Dorow was not being described as "bullshit," but rather the scheme with Dorow was "bullshit." dttruman September 20 Share September 20 For what it is worth, I thought they could have done a better job of casting in the "Case of the Fancy Figures". Frank Silvera played Jonathan Hyett and Joan Banks played his daughter Valerie Brewster. Here is the discrepancy, Frank is only 4 years older than Joan. IMO, either Frank or Joan was a last second replacement for the character they played. 1 Link to comment
