kassygreene August 3, 2018 Share August 3, 2018 Discovery seems to have reset early previews to the moment of the live broadcast; I'll update with a link when it is available. And heeerrrreee'ssss the link! Sig pushes Mandy to invade the Cornelia Marie's ground, sparking a battle; as the Cornelia Marie's pots get tangled with the Northwestern's, Casey takes extreme measures to defend his turf; a Saga distress signal sends panic across the fleet. millennium August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 Something about this episode was seriously off kilter. I don't buy for a second that Sig would suddenly go against the unwritten laws of the sea and disrupt another ship's catch like that. His expletive-laced call with Casey was also highly uncharacteristic. It all felt contrived The weirdness with Jakes epirb was suspect too. It was a joke? The whole fleet and the Coast Guard go on high alert over a rumor? It doesn't seem very likely. The one good thing about the epirb false alarm is that it confirmed the continued existence of the Brenna A. It's a shame that Sean was muscled out of this season so that the producers could continue to fawn over the Harris brat. 8 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4565106
merylinkid August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 I commented that Sig gets all worked up when someone sets near his pots, he wouldn't go and do it to someone else. My husband looked at me and said "it's in the script, honey." 3 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4565364
walnutqueen August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 (edited) Yeah, The Bait was far more interesting (and "authentic") than the episode this week. I caught a look at Casey's douche-face when the deckhand was being honest about how Casey's captaining style made it more dangerous for the crew. Keith is telling the poor slob that he's safe to speak his mind & nobody will hold it against him; I'm thinking "Danger, danger, Will Robinson! Abort! Abort!". That deckhand is going to pay ... Funny that almost everyone chose Wild Bill as the guy they'd most like to party with. ;-) I think Sig got really upset with Casey over the radio because Casey dissed Mandy - he'd normally engage in the spat, but is extremely protective of his daughter (which, I must admit, is not necessarily a bad thing). That was pure chickenshit. It was on the scale of a businessman blaming his secretary for his own malfeasance -- but worse. Because Sig dishonestly blamed a young woman making a diligent effort to learn a traditionally male profession and cast her as an idiot in the eyes of a male colleague. And worst of all, he did it to his own daughter. I don't even know who that Sig was. 5 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4565880

The EPIRB (Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon) thing was annoying too. I certainly don't want anyone to get hurt but it felt like tease to get people watching, but I guess the incident showed what a gossipy bunch these guys are. An EPIRB is a device that sits in a kind of capsule like housing that's hooked up to a railing, usually up higher on the boat. You use them when you are in BIG trouble, such as when you are sinking. They send out an emergency beacon and some have GPS, too. You can manually activate one or some have an auto function that turns on when goes below a certain depth in the water, around 6-10 feet if I recall correctly. You usually put them up higher on the boat so that they aren't whacked by waves and so forth. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4565967
tiredofwork August 9, 2018 Share August 9, 2018 Tried watching but I'm done, not a likable human on this show, we have pedophiles, assaulter's, phonies, posers. Dont care to watch them anymore. Shame on Disco for keeping Edgar and Sig on the show, 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4567851
brgjoe August 9, 2018 Share August 9, 2018 I also called shenanigans on both the Sig potting over thing and the emergency distress signal gossip. Both of those just had to be scripted. Are that that out of ideas that they have to pull crap like that? Assuming I am totally wrong (which of course, is entirely plausible), both incidents are just highly bizarre. You KNOW Sig would have screamed and yelled and cursed if someone were potting over HIM. And then put the blame on his daughter for doing it? Really, Sig? What a smarmy thing to do. And then who would start a rumor about another vessel in trouble like that? You know that sort of thing would cause all sorts of anxiety with all the families that were on that boat. Not to mention a possible wasted trip by the Coast Guard. So either it was someone with a very sick sense of humor or....the whole thing was made up for us TV viewers. I choose the latter scenario. 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4568576
Libby August 15, 2018 Share August 15, 2018 Wow, what is happening with the Hansen's? Edgar is an admitted child molester and Sig who I distinctly remember saying how inappropriate it was to lay over other boat's pots, did it to two young captains without blinking his eyes. I don't believe that Sig molested his daughter. Maybe I'm wrong though. This family's integrity seems to be falling apart. I do think that either that family is showing their true colors or they are losing their minds. Even if TLC told them to lay over the Cornilla's pots, in the past, I would have bet my house that Sig wouldn't have agreed to do it. Yet Sig happily did it. The Edgar thing is beyond imagination, but true. Like I said, what is going on with the Hansens???? Have they always been scum or are they losing it? 2 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/72976-s14e16-turf-wars/#findComment-4590081
Lonesome Rhodes August 22, 2018 Share August 22, 2018 Either Jake A. is a complete and utter tool, or Disco pulled an unforgivable stunt around the EPIRB. If this was an organic/real situation, Jake displayed the worst attitude and judgment I have ever seen. he has a bunch of captains frantically contacting him thinking something was crazy wrong, and he just smirks and does not think to reply with gratitude for the concern? He just carries on like it ain't no thang?! Screw you, Jake. OR The hell with Disco for creating the phony "alarm" and standing by as it played out. The Coast Guard has not investigated? Messing with emergency frequencies is typically frowned upon. Big time. This really might be it for the series.
