thuganomics85 February 7, 2018 Share February 7, 2018 Well then! I had been somewhat spoiled that there was going to be some big fight scene where someone took on a bunch of naked clones, but I wasn't expecting it to be Ortega vs. an entire army of Naked Rei ones! Credit to Dichen Lachman (and the stuntwomen) for going through with that: not just for the whole "being naked on camera for an extensive time", but obviously there couldn't have been any kind of padding or whatever to shield the blows and falls. Other then that, Rei's basically insane, right? She seems to have such an obsession with Kovacs that she automatically hates any woman he is romantically involved with, and basically threaten to kill those he cares for, if he didn't "solve the case" and run off with her. This isn't healthy, Rei! He's your brother, not your soulmate! I guess if you have to find a patsy, Prescott is the way to go. On one hand, she's originally from the ground/commoner, so it's easy for the Banecroft and the rest to assume the worst of her. On the other, she herself has been quite the asshole, so I doubt Kovacs will be losing any sleep over this. But since she's only being banished instead of killed, I'm going to guess she'll continue to play a part going forward. Hey, they got Vernon's wife out! But.... she's in a guy sleeve. Hey, to quote a great A.I., "Love triumphs all!" Classic Poe! 13 Link to comment
CaptainTightpants February 9, 2018 Share February 9, 2018 (edited) I think this is my least favorite episode. Maybe because it follows Nora Inu, which I think was the strongest episode so far. The reveal that Rei was bug nuts and a psycho killing puppet master could have been more drawn out. I think at least a full episode could have been devoted to Kovacs discovering that his sister was evil. Instead in the space of about 10 minutes she confesses that she killed everyone he knew 250 years ago. And then threatens that if he doesn't get on board she is going to do it again. Also the pocket sized mustache killer is an idiot. Kovacs is 100 percent right. The meths are literally just rich assholes with access to clones. How this mini fanatic comes up with the idea that they are actual gods is beyond me. And his monologue about his devotion to the greedy homicidal Rei doesn't make his philosophy any more believable. Ortega continues to be unreasonable and unlikable. She is going to get Mickey fired for sure. I can't even fathom why they are friends. All we see of their relationship is her demanding that he do illegal things for her. If this friendship was supposed to be believable it would have been worthwhile to see some scenes of camaraderie between them at some point. On the other hand Poe is amazing and he should absolutely be in charge of self defense classes in Bay City. I love this actor in every scene, but especially with Kovacs. They have great chemistry and timing together. The long awaited downfall of Prescott was oddly unsatisfying. I really wasn't expecting such a stone cold bitch to start getting weepy when she got burned. I was hoping for something more final, like gunshot to the head for her. Miriam's actions in that scene are definitely making her look guilty of her husband's murder, and Kovacs looks like he was realizing that too. If she didn't pull the trigger herself, she was involved somehow. The finale of the naked clone massacre was daring. And I have to give props to Dichen Lachman for doing god knows how many takes of that scene barefoot over broken glass. It was also past time to see Ortega actually be competent at something. Although her gun handling was atrocious, at least she is figuring out how to kick ass with her bionic arm. The ending definitely felt like "hurry up we only have 2 episodes left". It is unfortunate that the season couldn't have been 12 or 13 episodes long. The big Miss Marple reveal in Bancroft's drawing room could have used more time. As could a few more elements of the storyline. But now that evil-child Rei has got Ortega I'm guessing that the finale is devoted to her being the big bad. I swear if I ever come across an adorable crying child anywhere I am running the other way as fast as I can! Nothing good ever comes of it! Roaster February 13, 2018 Share February 13, 2018 I found the family reunion on the - um, holodeck - oddly touching. The only scene in this show I've found touching. 2 Link to comment
formerlyfreedom February 20, 2018 Author Share February 20, 2018 The conversation in the elevator between Kovacs and the minion? Is everything. "I believe you're my sister's bitch" and "I know better than to trust you in an elevator" and "Just attack me please, it will hurt less than listening to this"? I know it's not an opinion shared by all, but...I'm really enjoying Joel Kinnaman in the role. I think he has just the right amount of 'mildly confused' that works for the role. 1 10 Link to comment
tennisgurl February 20, 2018 Share February 20, 2018 Rei: "I mean, all I did was have everyone you ever loved slaughtered horribly and have continued killing anyone who you could care about besides me up until this very moment, big brother. Is that such a terrible crime crime?!?!" Kovacs: "...yes". 10 Link to comment
Clanstarling February 22, 2018 Share February 22, 2018 Rei grew up to be just like Daddy. Crazy and violent. I don't find the ghostwalker's devotion that unbelievable, there are, and have been, plenty of cults in our time who've believed their average human leader was a God. If anything, he has more reason to believe than them. I imagine Rei was double sleeved the whole time. So of course the child is her and Ortega should know better. I hate stories where the hard edged woman's maternal instinct dulls her intelligence. On the other hand, Ortega is pretty flawed in general. 4 Link to comment
bilgistic February 23, 2018 Share February 23, 2018 Help me out. The clone fight brought up a question I have. Each human has a stack, if implanted at the human's age of one. The stack stores the human consciousness, right? Clones are synthetic sleeves (synthetic human bodies), right? So how do they move and talk, etc., without the consciousness of the stack? We've seen that humans that have their stack removed cease to function, so I'm confused. Link to comment
AngelKitty February 23, 2018 Share February 23, 2018 I don't think you're supposed to think too much about those sorts of things. We really don't know enough about the cloning, but I don't think they are synthetic, they're real human bodies. I think in this case, Rei was controlling her clones. Link to comment

My guess with the clones, is that the meths, or Rei, at least, have a stack inserted when the clones are infant size or whatever age it is that they do it at, and then they just needle cast into the new clone. That way they avoid the surgery or whatever physical step it takes. I remember at least one or two times during the attack it seemed that Ray was needle casting, her eyes fluttered which is if I recall is the sign of that. 10 hours ago, AngelKitty said: I don't think you're supposed to think too much about those sorts of things. The son's clone of his father, was synthetic - it was a 3D by a biological print or something like that so it wasn't a true clone. At least that's my understanding of it may be in that age 3D printing is considered true cloning. Edited February 23, 2018 by Clanstarling Didn't make sense. 1 Link to comment

The fight in the cloning facility was really well done and Ortega looked like a badass there. She should have immediately suspected it was Rei and she inexplicably decides to get maternal instead. It really made her look foolish. I also can't blame that guy for not helping her anymore. She constantly asked and asked for him to get deeper and deeper into what she was investigating. 2 Link to comment
