S04.E06: Witches

Do people have apartments where they don't have a thermostat. I mean, most places I lived it had terrible if no insulation, so it was always cold and there was terrible heat loss, but we still had a thermostat.

The faces Ilana was making and the therapist shining the huge flashlight killed me.

I went through the shock of my first grey hair when I was in fifth grade. Luckily it was just one! Since then, I find a stray one every once in a while. But I get Abbi freaking out about it because I think it's a shock no matter what age you are when it happens. Ha, I totally laughed when the dermatologist said she was 51 and Abbi said, "NO WAY! FUCK YOU!"

I also cracked up after Ilana left and the therapist said she needed to get a new carpet.

I have definitely lived in buildings where the building management decided when the heat got turned on in the winter, and that didn't have a thermostat. Happened to me in both Chicago and Milwaukee, and it's always been in places where the heat is part of the rent (and no AC in unit), so I have 100% been where Abbi's been. In fact, now that I think about it, I still know people that live in units like that - I'm sure it's more popular in some cities than others though.

I have never wanted to join a coven of witches more after this episode. I freaking love Abbi and Ilana.

I do, and it's been previously posted, it's because my heat is included in my rent.  The town I live in has a set date by which the heat must be turned on, and it's TODAY.  This morning I heard the familiar rumble of my bedroom radiator, it sounds like a cappucino machine.  Time to open the top of my windows just a crack so I don't swelter.

By the way, who played Ilana's therapist?  She looked very familiar to me.

Marcella Lowery, and she has been in everything. Ghostwriter was it for me too, but also Cosby and City Guys. It was a weird type of sex therapy, but Abbi said the character is based on a real sex therapist. Marcella looks exactly like one of my aunts, so I felt very uncomfortable watching her talk Ilana through to orgasm.

I recognized her as the Grandma from Ghostwriter, but she's also been on original recipe Law and Order and SVU a lot.

That’s where I recognized her from, too, and it kind of threw me for a loop to see Grandma talking about orgasms here, and then I clicked on BoogieBurns’ link and saw that Marcella was around 40 when she was doing Ghostwriter and playing a Grandma and now my whole world feels unsettled.  (Not that it doesn’t happen, but she was so young!)

That was my old apartment building as well. Heat was included in the rent, and it was radiator heating. I always had to brace myself for that precarious moment in October where the temps outdoors dropped before the designated date the building turned over to winter heating. I own so many leg warmers now because I'd use them to keep warm at night.

The apartment I'm in now has central heating and AC, which I pay for, but I like that I can control my indoor thermostat.
