I usually end up disliking the players on this show, they are so OTT and SNS (So Not Smart) plus obnoxious IMO so I am pleased when they leave with no money. But this week was so different for me. First, they were from Montana, my favorite state, and Evalyna is Blackfeet and lives on the reservation. That made her golden in my book for a multitude of reasons.

She met Shawn in the military where both of them served ... more pluses. And now he's a sheriff in Montana ... add another plus. The adopted kids didn't need to be mentioned IMO, that had no bearing on how much I liked this couple.

So I was happy that whatever Shawn's choice, they were going home with a nice paycheck. It was just a bonus that they ended up with the larger amount. FINALLY, an episode I got invested in. When Shawn said he tore up the contract, I exhaled an "Ohhhh" and actually teared up.

In other news, what's up with Chris Hardwick's hair. I don't even know this guy any more. He was the only irritating (to me) part of this episode. Otherwise, five stars out of five.

Oh: And it was so funny that the family had just watched Titanic yet Shawn didn't know how Jack got the tickets, demonstrating how much attention men pay to chick flicks. That put a cherry on top of this ice-cream-sundae treat of an episode.

We have Episode 12 of the 4th season with Shawn and Evalyna, husband and wife and both army vets from Montana.  Interesting fact -- they adopted 4 girls within a 6-month span, ages 1, 2, 3 and 4.

They get the first Freefall question right and hit the Freefall+ button -- only to win $201.  Which doubled to $402.  But then score much bigger on the last 4 Freefall questions accumulating $25,001 + $15,100 + $65,000 + $20,002 for a total of $125,505.

Shawn heads to the isolation booth.  Loved the confidence in their speeches -- we're here to have fun, and might make some money.

Round 2

The Green Superdrop gets them $405,100 -- they hit the $150K slot twice -- giving them a total of $530,605.

Loved Shawn badly singing the lyrics to Marvin Gaye's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" -- to get him to the right answer.

Shawn goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $50K + $1 + -$100K -- adding up -$49,999 and giving them a total of $480,606.  The Red Superdrop is pretty easy on Shawn and Evalyna, deducting $140,201 and giving them a total of $340,405.

On to Round 3

Evalyna gets $100 + $1 + $300K + $400K with the first 4 green balls -- adding $700,101 and producing a total of $1,040,506.

Shawn goes 1 for 3 in questions -- $10 + -$10 + -$10 -- netting -$10 and leaving them with $1,040,896.

Overall Shawn got 3 out of 6 questions correct -- bumping up the guarantee to $185,505.

The final 4 red balls were pretty easy on them -- -$1 + -$200K + -$50K + -$1 -- adding up to -$250,002 and giving them a final total of $790,404.

A female contestant ditches her high heels so she can properly celebrate by jumping up and down.  Finally !!!  Of course, Chris has to get in on that action and ditches his shoes too.

Shawn's and Evalyna's final speeches were really good too.  Shawn tore up the contract and they go home with nearly $800K.  Yay for them !!!

@saber5055 -- you're right, something is definitely off with Chris Hardwick's hair.  I'm starting to think it's a hairpiece.  :)

Yay guessed what the question was going to be based on the answers. As soon as I saw 50mph I thought, that's the speed of the bus in Speed.

She was doing so well up to that point. Didn't help that he kept doubling and tripling up ultimately wiping them out. Glad she signed.

LOL! And right away I knew the question was abut Pop Tarts when I saw those answers. Not sure what that says about me.

We have Episode 13 of the 4th season with Mikail and Shakira, brother and sister from Atlanta, Georgia and North Carolina.  He's a Fedex driver and she's an ICU nurse.
Interesting fun fact -- Mikail had a viral video on Youtube involving a kid on his delivery route and Tony Hawk.

They get the first Freefall question right and hit the Freefall+ button -- gaining $20,202.
They get the other 4 Freefall questions right accumulating $111 + $50,000 + $40,001 + $5,020 for a total of $115,334.

Shakira heads to the isolation booth.  For family in attendance they have Mikail's wife, Clarice, and his daughter, Victoria.

Round 2

The Green Superdrop gets them $181,121 -- giving them a total of $295,455.

Shakira goes 3 for 3 in questions -- $1 + $175K (doubled up) + $10,101 (tripled up) -- adding up $185,102 and giving them a total of $480,467.

The Red Superdrop removed more than 50% of their total, deducting $260,004 and giving them a total of $220,463.

On to Round 3

Mikail gets $200K + $100 (that ball was like a missile headed for the $100 slot) + $400K + $300K with the first 4 green balls -- adding $900,100 to the pot producing a total of $1,120,563.

Shakira goes 1 for 3 in questions -- $10 + -$700K (doubled up, can't believe she missed that Speed bus question) + -$500,011 (tripled up)-- netting -$1,200,021 and zeroing them out.

Overall Shakira got 4 out of 6 questions correct -- bumping up the guarantee to $195,334.

At least we don't need to watch the last 4 red balls.

Thankfully, Shakira tore up the contract and they go home with nearly $200K.  Good for them.

It seems that if whatever pair is constantly doubling and tripling they have agreed to be aggressive and go for it and will rip up the contact. If they keep playing it safe and don’t double and triple, most likely they are risk adverse and have signed the contract.

Playing catch-up from the last couple of weeks (hey, I've been busy).

We have Episode 14 of the 4th season with AnnaLee and Lily, sisters from Southern California.  AnnaLee is a school teacher and Lily is a flight attendant.
Interesting fun facts -- their mom is from Mexico, and their dad is from the Philippines and was an E-7 in the US Navy.

Both of the sisters are wearing high, high heels which are really not appropriate for jumping up and down in front of the Wall.

They got the first Freefall question wrong, collecting -$40K, but since this the Freefall round they remain at zero.  They got the remaining 4 questions correct collecting $15,010 + $40,002 (used FreeFall+) + $55,000 + $25,100 for a total of $135,112.

The Freefall questions were pretty easy this time.  For example, question 5 was:

"Famed wizard Harry Potter has a scar on his forehead shaped like what ? "
A. Star
B: Lightning Bolt

On to Round 2 -- Lily heads to the isolation booth.  For supporters in attendance they have AnnaLee/Lily's mom Lilia, and AnnaLee's son DJ.

Their mom is a real hoot, shouting out encouragement from the support section -- and she's an Elvis fan.

The Green Superdrop gets them $205,111 giving them a total of $340,223.

Lily goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $100 + $10,001 (doubled up) + -$105,000 (tripled up) -- adding up to -$94,899 and giving them a total of $245,324.

The Red Superdrop removes over 2/3 of their total, deducting $180,103 and giving them a total of $65,221.

On to Round 3

AnnaLee gets $500K + $1 + $500K + $10 with the first 4 green balls -- adding $1,000,011 to the pot producing a total of $1,065,232.

Lily goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $1 + $400K + -$50K -- netting $350,001 and leaving them with a total of $1,415,233.

Overall Lily got 4 out of 6 questions correct -- bumping up the guarantee to $215,112.

The first three red balls hit $1 + $1 + $100 -- they hit the $1 and $100 slots on either side of the $1 million slot, which was pretty nerve-wracking -- and the 4th red ball hit the $1 million totaling $1,000,102 from the 4 red balls and leaving them with $415,131.

Lily signed the contract and they went home with $215,112.

AnnaLee and Lily (and their mom) were really entertaining -- glad that they got some cash.

We have Episode 15 of the 4th season with Jordan and Maurcus, newlyweds from Atlanta, Georgia.  Jordan works in real estate and Maurcus works for an non-profit that helps high school graduates get internships.

Interesting fun fact -- about 5 years ago, Jordan went on a 11 month, 11 country overseas humanitarian mission.

They got all 5 Freefall questions correct accumulating $5,002 + $25,101 + $10,011 + $90,002 (used FreeFall+) + $10,011 for a total of $140,118.

But the questions were pretty easy this time too.  For example, question 5 was:

"On websites that use a security feature called ReCaptcha, one of the tests is a checkbox for the user to declare 'I'm not a' what ?"
A. Robot
B: Martian

On to Round 2 -- Maurcus heads to the isolation booth.  For supporters in attendance they have Jordan's friend Holly, Jordan's mom Debra, Clarice, and Maurcus' mom Jackie.

The Green Superdrop is really stingy and only gets them $20,004 -- 4 of the 7 balls went into the $1 slot -- giving them a total of $160,122.

Maurcus goes 3 for 3 in questions -- $150K + $100K (doubled up) + $1 -- adding up $250,001 and giving them a total of $410,123.

The Red Superdrop removed nearly half of their total, deducting $180,112 and giving them a total of $230,011.

On to Round 3

Jordan gets $200K + $200K + $100 + 1 with the first 4 green balls -- adding $400,101 to the pot producing a total of $630,111.

Maurcus goes 0 for 3 in questions -- -$100K + -$300,001 (doubled up) + -$100 -- netting -$400,101 and leaving them with a total of $230,011.

Overall Maurcus got 3 out of 6 questions correct -- bumping up the guarantee to $200,118.

The first red ball hits the $300K slot and zeroes them out. At least we don't need to watch the last 3 red balls.

Maurcus ripped up the contract, and they went home with nothing.

The 5th question is always a gimme since the game ends if they have 0 on the wall.

The show is starting to get old as no one plays with a strategy. Every move is just a random call.

For instance the last couple on their final question. The wall was nearly identical to their guarantee. They should have triple upped on that question as they really had nothing to lose. If he got the question right it would have been the only way to build up a good cushion before the 4 red balls. In the end it didn't matter since he got it wrong.

The show, and a lot of other sob story shows, are just modern day versions of Queen For a Day.  This is the wrong show for anyone looking for actual strategy from the teams.

We have Episode 16 of the 4th season (which aired on Sept. 13) with Ted and Hayden, father and son from Akron, Ohio.  Ted is a youth sports coach and not sure what Hayden does for a living.

Interesting fun facts -- Ted has 9 kids, including 5 adopted kids all from the same family. Hayden recently got married where Ted officiated.  Hayden saved a young girl from a creek, and won an American Red Cross Hometown Hero award.

For some reason, Hardwick thinks that Hayden's voice sounds like Tom Cruise, but I don't really hear it.

They got the first Freefall question wrong, collecting -$5,002, but since this is the Freefall round they remain at zero.  The Freefall Mulligan, if you will.
They got the next 4 Freefall questions correct accumulating $20,004 + $3 (the bare minimum that you can win on any Freefall question) + $5,011 + $45,000 for a total of $70,018.  Freefall+ button was not used.
Before the final Freefall question, they only had $25,018 and could have easily zeroed out if they got the question wrong.

Good thing question 5 was super super easy:

"Which of these boxers made millions of dollars by endorsing an electric grill ?"
A. George Foreman
B: Mike Tyson

Hardwick confirms that he has a George Foreman grill, and says that he uses it all the time.

On to Round 2 -- Hayden heads to the isolation booth.  For supporters in attendance they have Hayden's wife Paige, and Ted's wife Lisa.

The Green Superdrop gets them $85,113 -- 3 of the 7 balls went into the $1 slot -- giving them a total of $155,131.

Hayden goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $1 + $11 (doubled up) + -$250K (tripled up)-- adding up to -$249,989 and zeroing them out.
So there was no need for the Red Superdrop.

On to Round 3

Ted gets $10 + $100 + $1 + $100 with the first 4 green balls -- adding up to $211. That does not bode well.

Hayden goes 0 for 3 in questions -- -$1 + -$200,010 (doubled up) + -$1,500,001 (tripled up) -- netting -$1,700,012 and, of course, zeroing them out.
If Hayden was going to get any question correct, he really needed to have got that final question right.

Overall Hayden got 2 out of 6 questions correct -- bumping up the guarantee to $110,118.

And once again there is no need for the 4 final red balls.

Thankfully Hayden signed the contract so at least they went home with something despite luck really not being on their side during this episode.

We have Episode 17 of the 4th season with Carmen and Toni, an engaged couple from Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Carmen is a special education social worker and Toni is a Google account executive and they are moms to 3 kids.

Interesting fun fact -- Toni was named Citizen of the Year in Ann Arbor for her volunteer work at a teen center servicing the LGBTQ+ community.

They got the first Freefall question wrong, collecting -$5,110, but since this is the Freefall round they remain at zero. And it was a pretty easy question about Matthew McConaughey.
Then they got the 2nd FreeFall question wrong too -- -$40,000 -- but they get another FreeFall mulligan.
Finally they get a question right, and they used the FreeFall+ button on the 3rd FreeFall question totalling $20,220.
They get Freefall question 4 correct, but only get $30 -- bringing them to $20,250.
So the pressure is on to get Question 5 right, but it was super easy and they add $5,011 -- bringing their total to $25,261.

FreeFall Question 5:

"Which planet shares its name with a carnivorous 'flytrap' that feeds on insects it catches in its leaves ?"
A. Venus
B: Neptune

On to Round 2 -- Toni heads to the isolation booth.  For supporters in attendance they have family friend Penny, and their middle son Zion.

The Green Superdrop gets them $125,122 -- giving them a total of $150,383.

Toni goes 1 for 3 in questions -- -$10 + $125,000 (doubled up) + -$15,001 (tripled up)-- adding up to $109,989 and giving them a total of $260,372.
Time for the Red Superdrop, and the Red Superdrop was not kind -- adding up to $450,002 and zeroing them out.

On to Round 3

Carmen gets $1 + $10 + $100 + $1 with the first 4 green balls -- adding up to $112. Yikes !!

Toni goes 1 for 3 in questions -- -$1 + $700,000 (doubled up) + -$10 -- netting -$699,989 and giving them a total of $700,101.  Not a bad recovery from Round 2 and the 4 green balls of this round.

Overall Toni got 2 out of 6 questions correct -- making the guarantee worth $65,261.

Seems like we haven't seen the final 4 red balls in several episodes.
The 4 final red balls removed over 70% of their money -- -$300,000 + -$10 + -$100 + -$200,000 -- adding up to -$500,110 and leaving them with $199,991.

Toni first signed and then ripped up the contract -- sending them home with $199,991.

Playing catch up on the last couple of episodes.

We have Episode 18 of the 4th season that aired on Nov. 19 with Melvin and Meredith, father and daughter from Escanaba, Michigan -- Melvin is a Fedex driver and Meredith is a respiratory therapist.   I suspect Meredith is pretty busy these days what with Covid.  Melvin is quite a character -- come for the really creative body motions while the balls are falling, stay for the cocktail-themed shirt.

They got the first Freefall question right collecting $10,011.
Then they got remaining 4 FreeFall questions all correct -- adding $10,101, $25,002, $60,020 (used FreeFall+), and $20,011 for a FreeFall total of $125,145.

The FreeFall questions were super easy.  Take FreeFall question #4.

In chess, a player wins when they have checkmated which of their opponent's pieces ?
A: King
B: Queen

On to Round 2 -- Meredith heads to the isolation booth. For supporters they brought Melvin's wife/Meredith's mom Emily and Melvin's daughter/Meredith's sister Claire.

The Green Superdrop gets them $115,013 -- giving them a total of $240,158.

Meredith goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $25,000 + -$75,000 + $201 (tripled up)-- adding up to -$49,799 and giving them a total of $190,359.
Time for the Red Superdrop -- and it does not go well, adding up to -$225,014, and zeroing them out.

On to Round 3

Melvin gets $100,000 + $100,000 + $1 + $10 with the first 4 green balls -- adding up to $200,011.  A decent recovery from zeroing out, but Meredith needs to get all the questions right.

Meredith goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $10 + $220 (doubled up) + -$100,001 (tripled up) -- netting -$99,771 and giving them a total of $100,130.

Overall Meredith got 4 out of 6 questions correct -- making the guarantee worth $205,145.

The 4 final red balls were really harsh (in fact they didn't even need the 4th ball) -- -$1 + -$10 + -$1,000,000 -- zeroing them out.

Meredith really wanted to "risk it for the biscuit" and go for the big money on the Wall, but thankfully she signed the contract and they went home with $205,145.  Good for them !!

We have Episode 19 of the 4th season that aired on Dec. 10 with Andrea and Terry, married couple from Rancho Cucamonga, California -- Andrea's a fire captain and Terry is a stay at home dad with their 3 kids.

They got the first Freefall question right, and used the FreeFall+ button collecting $20,220.
Then they got remaining 4 FreeFall questions all correct -- adding $5,110, $102, $55,000, and $10,011 for a FreeFall total of $90,443

On to Round 2 -- Terry heads to the isolation booth.

The Green Superdrop is rather stingy and only gets them $5,123 -- giving them a total of $95,566.

Terry goes 2 for 3 in questions -- -$1 + $225,000 (doubled up) + $100,011 (tripled up)-- adding up to $325,010 and giving them a total of $420,576.
Time for the Red Superdrop -- adding up to -$115,013, giving them a total of $305,563

On to Round 3

Andrea gets $500,000 + $10 + $100 + $100 with the first 4 green balls -- adding up to $500,210, giving them a total of $805,773.

Terry goes 1 for 3 in questions -- -$1 + -$300,000 + $100,000 -- netting -$200,001 and giving them a total of $605,772.

Overall Terry got 4 out of 6 questions correct -- making the guarantee worth $150,443.

The 4 final red balls were really kind -- -$10 + -$100 + -$100 + -$1 -- adding up to -$211.  That has to be one of the lowest totals for the 4 final red balls we've seen in a while -- leaving them with $605,561.

Terry tore up the contract and they went home with $605,561.  I think they can afford a new water heater now -- as Terry had mentioned that their water heater broke right before they came to the show.

After watching Jeopardy when that champion Matt was kicking butt, a show like this is night and day. I still find myself rooting against players because the backstories and filler are all so cringe. Shameful spite I guess.

But I do like the trivia and find that even with 7 episodes recorded, we can fast forward and knock them all out in like 2 hours. It is a bit sad that I was able to predict the question content after they reveal the choices.

Yup that’s what helps make the show a little more interesting on a premise that is already painful to watch.  Sometimes I won’t even come close but it is a neat little accomplishment if you can guess right a few of them per episode.

We have Episode 20 of the 4th season that aired on Feb. 1 with Amber and Chelsea, sisters from Wasilla, Alaska -- Amber is a mom and 911 operator and Chelsea works for a construction company.   And they are Irish twins which Chelsea thinks will bring them a lot of luck -- I'm not sure Chelsea knows what the term 'Irish twins' really means.

They got the first Freefall question right collecting $30,001.
Then they got the 2nd FreeFall question wrong -- deducting $10,011
They proceeded to get the 3 remaining FreeFall questions correct -- added $5,011, $40,222 (FreeFall+ used) and $20,110 for a FreeFall total of $85,313.

Amber should have worn flats for all that jumping that will ensue in front of the wall.

On to Round 2 -- Chelsea heads to the isolation booth. For supporters they brought Amber's husband Stephen and Chelsea's husband Chris.
Still no audience, but plenty of fake crowd noise.

The Green Superdrop gets them $135,004 -- giving them a total of $220,317.

Chelsea goes 1 for 3 in questions -- $1 + -$50,200 (doubled up) + -$1 -- adding up to -$50,200 and giving them a total of $195,217.
Time for the Red Superdrop -- -$75,033 -- giving them a total of $120,184.  They really lucked out with 3 red balls hitting $1 and 3 red balls hitting $10.

On to Round 3

And we get our first dead relative reference as part of the first green ball placement discussion.

Amber gets $1 (I guess Grandma Wanda wasn't that lucky) + $400,000 + $1 + $1 with the first 4 green balls -- giving them $520,187.

Chelsea goes 0 for 3 in questions -- -$400k + -$11 (doubled up) + -$1,100,001 (tripled up) -- zeroing them out.  And not requiring the final 4 red balls be dropped.

Overall Chelsea got 1 out of 6 questions correct -- making the guarantee worth $105,313.
Chelsea gets kind of weepy while deliberating to sign the contract or not.

It appears that they brought Chelsea out right after she returned the contract -- which is kind of a tell they didn't go through the last 4 red balls -- of course that could have just been edited to look that way.

Chelsea signed the contract -- and they go home with $105,313.

And that is all for Season 4 of 'The Wall'.

We have Episode 1 of the 5th season of The Wall that aired on April 12 with Christiana and Nic, a married couple from Door County, Wisconsin -- they are candle company owners who raised over $800,000 for Ukrainian relief efforts by making/selling blue and yellow candles.

Lebron shows up again during the intro, stating "obviously you want to go big" -- though they have never acknowledged during any of the shows why Lebron shows up in the intros (sure, he's an executive producer, but they don't even state that fact).  So it just comes off as odd that he just shows up.

And then Lebron voiceovers "Welcome to The Wall on NBC".

Chris Hardwick's hair is surprisingly ... normal looking.

FreeFall+ is back again this season.

They got the first Freefall question right collecting $40,000.
Then they got the 2nd FreeFall question right using FreeFall+ -- adding $40,220.
They proceeded to get the 3 remaining FreeFall questions correct -- added $55,000, $10,101 and $20,110 for a FreeFall total of $135,521.

Here's a sample Freefall question, specifically question 5.

Question: "The first book published in C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia" series was title "The Lion, The Witch, and the" what piece of furniture ?
Answers:  A: Wardrobe
                 B: Cupboard

On to Round 2 -- Nic heads to the isolation booth. For supporters they brought Christiana's mom and dad -- Natalie and George.  Still no audience, but lots of fake crowd noise.

The Green Superdrop gets them $160,103 -- giving them a total of $295,624.

Largest amount on The Wall during Round 1 remains at $150K.

There's a new option this season called Wall-to-Wall during the 3rd question -- basically triggers another superdrop which can be either red or green depending on whether they get the question right. And it is only an option during Round 2.

Nic goes 2 for 3 in questions -- -$1 + $75,100 (doubled up) + $165,200 (used Wall-to-Wall) -- adding up to $240,299 and giving them a total of $535,923.
Time for the Red Superdrop -- -$35,301 -- giving them a total of $500,622.

On to Round 3

And we get our first dead relative reference as part of the first green ball placement discussion.

Christiana gets $1,000,000 + $500,000 + $10 + $1 with the first 4 green balls -- adding up to 1,500,011 and giving them a total of $2,000,633.

Nic goes 2 for 3 in questions -- $1 + $10 + -$50,000 -- adding up to -$49,989 and giving them a total of $1,950,644.

Overall Nic got 4 out of 6 questions correct -- making the guarantee worth $215,521.

The red balls get -$1 + -$500,000 + -$100,000 + -$10 -- adding up to -$600,011 giving them a final total of $1,350,633.

Nic ripped up the contract -- and they go home with big money.  $1,350,633.

Christiana and Nic seem nice -- I hope they do more good work with the money.

If someone ended up negative in Freefall, would they just not air it? I, personally, would enjoy seeing it.

That has not happened yet on an episode that ha aired, but there have been a few close calls.

There have been about 3 or 4 episodes where contestants were at $0 after Q4 of Freefall only to get Q5 correct.

It bugs me a little that some couples can answer most things correctly but get screwed by the wall, and then this week the couple answers almost everything incorrectly and still walks away with a decent sum of money. I understand that that's the nature of the game, but still...
