Kevin Keller: Always First in Line for Kool-Aid

A thread to discuss Kevin and to an extent the actor that plays him Casey Cott (who in my opinion is going to be the breakout star of this show)

I don't know what to give as a subtitle for this thread so I'll let you guys come up with something awesome so don't let me down.......

I like him. It was so sad when he told his dad "there is a nice gay kid at school dad! ME!" And then he was so sad at the drive in...and when he gave his number ... "USE IT!" The desperation was sad but endearing!

I think the actor Casey Cott is doing a great job and I look forward to seeing where this whole story line with the South Side Gay Biker Gang Guy goes. I'm glad though the whole Moose thing and him seems to have blown away.

I had a good laugh at Kevin's dad telling him not to go cruising in the woods. As opposed to anywhere else.

I thought that was kind of inspired considering he's the sheriff and all.  Not only can he give good advice to gay males, it's good *professional* advice. Backed up by evidence over time, as well as experience. :)

Yeah, cruising in the woods for gay sex...just not a good idea.  Cruising in a university library during a stress-filled finals week though...you might have better luck. I'm sure Riverdale has a university somewhere that won't be mentioned until the kids are looking at college.

I thought this guy looked really familiar, and then I looked it up and realized he's the little brother of Corey Cott, who was Jeremy Jordan's replacement as Jack Kelly in Newsies. It's not a strong family resemblance (Casey has a stronger jawline than Corey) but you can see it around the eyes,  I think.

I wonder if Casey inherited a strong singing voice, too? Not that they would ever let Kevin sing on the show and theoretically upstage Archie.

Thanks for that. I've always had a hard-on for guys who can sing. In my fantasy life, I imagine myself as a would-be performer living in New York City trying to make it to Broadway. Preferably in 1990's New York City. I wonder if there's footage of Corey and Casey singing together?

It's a shame the show is never going to use Casey's voice, because then Archie would have competition.

So Casey Cott was on Law and Order: SVU tonight. It felt like a recycled, straightforward episode, and he was fine in it. The subject matter of the episode was uhhhh...well I've linked a promo and clip below

And for something completely different, Casey and Camila were at the EW/People Magazine Upfronts party and took some cute photos with Jaimie Alexander. I'm assuming it was only the two of them since I guess the party was in New York where they both of them happen to live.

I want to like Kevin so much! But so far, he has been completely reduced to a gay BFF stereotype and I find him more annoying than cute. Hopefully they can flesh out his relationship with Joaquin a little and give Kevin a storyline other than 'best gay'.

An observation about ShowKevin vs. BookKevin - it's kind of odd that (as far as i recall though i may be wrong), Kevin isn't part of the Blue and Gold staff, since in the books, the reporting business was Kevin's career aspiration.  (In Life With Archie, he instead goes into the military and runs for office upon his return home but in the new Life with Kevin, we follow him post high school as he goes to New York to work in TV News)

Then of course, there's Reggie, whose father was the newspaper publisher in the books as opposed to the Coopers...

I mentioned in another thread that i was actually kind of heartbroken when Jughead mentioned in ep10 that he probably wouldn't have anything to do with Kevin if he wasn't a friend of Betty/Archie's since i loved the Jughead/Kevin friendship in the books (Jug is Kevin's first Riverdale friend).  But the show could totally make it up to me if in Season 2, Jug and Kevin bond over a food eating challenge as they've done in the books.  This would actually accomplish a few things:

(1) Create more of a relationship/interaction between Jughead and Kevin

(2) Give Kevin some additional layers beyond "being the token gay stereotype" and elements to his personality that are rooted in the source material.

(3) I'm also all for anything that depicts Jughead bonding over his ultimate true love: Back to Burgers!

With Kevin being a regular next season, here's hoping the Jughead/Kevin Friendship happens. They do have Betty in common already though in different ways. And I'm hoping to see more of 2 and 3. Also selfishly I'm hoping Kevin changes his Betty/Archie are endgame stance lol

Wow, Kevin actually got something to do. I did find his angst pretty relatable- much like Kevin I wasn't gaybashed growing up (nothing more than namecalling) but the truth is, you just don't have the options that a straight high schooler will have. I did a lot of online chatting when I was his age, and later on, got into cruising during my early 20's circa 2006-2007. It was a pretty short period in my life, but I remember the excitement and addictive nature of it. Especially if you hit the cruising jackpot and hook up with a seriously hot guy that you would never get a chance to do in "real" life.

Although now it seems like most guys who are young and hot like Kevin are going to be on Grindr, anyway. I get he doesn't want to be catfished but he could have just demanded a Skype session beforehand.

When Kevin's Father as a Teen kissed Sierra as a Teen, I kept expecting Casey Cott to look into the camera and say, "See? I CAN kiss ladies on-screen! Please don't typecast me, pretty please!"
