auntieminem January 25, 2017 Share January 25, 2017 I think the article covered my thoughts, mostly that his living situation spared him from resorting to some of the things others do to get money for drugs. I felt so bad for his mother, she was so frail. Good thing he is staying in Tn for now. 2 Link to comment

I had a couple of friends whose parents would put you to work if you came over, and I admit it slowed down on the number of times I'd go to that friend's house. "Oh good, you can help Elizabeth clean her room!" Uh, no, I don't even clean my own room. But on the scale of Parental Crimes, that's pretty low. 2 Link to comment
Aw my lahgs January 26, 2017 Share January 26, 2017 Boring episode. Boring dude. Normal, boring family. Link to comment
artemiseast January 26, 2017 Share January 26, 2017 I do not understand why they picked this guy and his family. He story was uninteresting and his family can afford to get him any treatment he needs. It seems a shame not to provide this gift to someone who does not have such easy access to help, should they want it. 10 Link to comment
MarylandGirl January 28, 2017 Share January 28, 2017 OK, I feel better that I wasn't the only one bored by this episode. I just didn't feel invested in him at all. On a production note, what was up with the music during the end of the intervention itself and during the followup? It seemed much more obtrusive than usual. Then again, maybe it's always that way, and I noticed it more because I wasn't that interested in the subject? 1 Link to comment

I was thinking that myself. On the other hand, Intervention isn't a charity. It's a for-profit entertainment enterprise. The free luxury rehabs are kind of a bonus. They must have thought that this family was going to bring more drama than they turned out to bring. It could have gone that way with the sick, enabling mom, the selfish rich kid, etc. Turns out they all really love each other. The whole family was super good-looking and that gorgeous house/estate made for excellent eye candy; that may have influenced the producers, too. Talk about a telegenic cast and set. Sister Molly looks like Erin Andrews. I would never want to move away from home if home were a restored Victorian mansion on 18 wooded acres by a river. (Though I like to think I'd be canoeing and hiking, not smoking meth in the barn.) I hope the crew got to jump in the pool at some point. It's hot in Sacramento in July. 7 Link to comment

I don't think that people with the ability to pay for treatment should be excluded. The show is not a charity. It's kind of a strange thought, that only the very poor "deserve" to be on this show and it's totally wrong! If anything, it's good they show well off people too. Addiction can happen to anyone and no one is excluded. 8 Link to comment

The parents are doing the co-dependnt dance just like they do in less affluent families. And a person can become an addict without suffering major life trauma. One thing Todd said that struck me, when he first used OxyContin, he felt okay, normal. Edited January 31, 2017 by Neurochick 8 Link to comment

Pers February 1, 2017 Share February 1, 2017 I totally understand where the people who didn't like the episode are coming from. For me, this one was like a bit of a palate cleanser: no falling down in the street, pooping on cars, crazy freakouts, etc... Of course, I'll be watching for all the craziness and f*ckery in future episodes, but I liked this one and the people involved in this story. 4 Link to comment
