How sad.  I remember when Nick Benedict took over the role of Phil Brent.  Richard Hatch had left the role, his character being declared missing, resumed dead in Vietnam.  At first, Nick playing Phil was sort of shocking, the physical difference between him and Richard Hatch being so obvious, but he made that part his own.

Long ago days now.  I'm sorry to hear of his death.

I loved Peter White, and I LOVED Kitty and Linc, and later, Kelly and Linc.  He was the perfect man to play son to Phoebe and Charles - the best of all who had been in the role previously - and his romance with Kitty/Kelly was such a touching and adult relationship.  Perfect pairing with those two actors.

Also, he seemed like a good man, all around.

ETA - He was also excellent in the first filmed version of Boys in the Band.

AMC loses another alum - Alec Musser, who took over the role of Del Henry from Windsor Harmon in 2005, has passed away at age 50. He landed his AMC contract by winning the reality show I Wanna Be A Soap Star. After leaving the show in 2007, Musser acted in a few other projects including an episode of Desperate Housewives, and went on to become a popular fitness model. No cause of death is noted in the TVLine article.

Sadly Alec died by suicide

Thanks for posting this.  I loved Barbara Rush in all her films and remember how thrilled I was when she appeared on All My Children.

She had such presence.

Esta Terblanche, who played Gillian Andrassy, passed away on July 19, 2024. She was my favourite character from the late 1990s / early 2000 era.  Sadly, all of the actors of her onscreen family have all now passed away: Eugenia, Dmitry and Edmund.

Sad news indeed. At least Rudolf Marin (who played Dmitry's son Anton) is still alive, even if he and Esta were never on the show at the same time.

I genuinely cannot imagine Maria and Trevor together as a romantic couple - and I say that as someone who willingly suspended all disbelief in order to accept that Trevor would fall for Robin Mattson's Janet.

I loved the chemistry between Kiberd and Mattson, and despite Janet's past, Robin played Janet's redemption wonderfully and I loved them as a couple, until the writers first backburned them, and then decided to have Janet lose it again.

I quit watching after they left.  I preferred Robin's version of Janet over Kate, but I don't deny Kate is a very talented actress too, I just loathed how the writers trashed all the character development that had happened with Janet and threw it away for camp and Janet would never have killed Trevor.

This was so sad when I heard about this, I care give for one of her high school class mates, we watch a lot of Turner Classic Movies', and whenever Barbara pops up in a film, she mentions they went school together in Santa Barbara, and how nice she was .

I have been missing All My Children something terrible. So I have been watching past episodes on youtube. I have fallen in love all over again with Brooke and Edmund.  Those two were just so wonderful and dynamic together.  I never understood why the show put Edmund with Maria.  Edmund lost himself in that pairing, he became lifeless and dull by Saint Maria's side.

Edmund brought so much happiness adventure and joie de vivre to Brooke's life. I truly felt that she was truly happy with him and that he along with her son Jamie made life worth living after he beloved daughter Laura died. I just wish that Brooke was not so unforgiving when it came to Edmund's vendetta against Dimitri.

Does anybody know why the writers went from Edmund/Brooke to Edmund/Maria? Did the show change writers who decided to jettison the Brooke/Edmund love story. It was just jarring to me because Maria was clearly a rebound for Edmund. His heart was with Brooke period..

I'm a bit mixed. I liked Edmund with Brooke, but I also liked Edmund with Maria as well. Then again, I also liked Brooke when she was paired with Adam and also with Jackson. I think Brooke's weakest pairing was with Tad. IMO, they worked better as friends than as a couple.

I agree.   It's not that I didn't enjoy them but as you say, they worked best as friends.

I also loved her with Tom.  Those two were terrific together, especially in the early days when they uncovered the identity of Cobra, Brooke's drug-dealing, mobster mother, who turned out not to be Mommie after all.  Great story!

I think it was because once they got Michael E. Knight back, the show decided that Brooke was more valuable as an obstacle for Tad and Dixie. As someone who never particularly liked Tad and Dixie (and to this day is salty that the show decided not to pursue a Tad/Liza pairing during Marcy Walker's second run) I can't say I agree with the decision.

I also really liked Brooke with Edmund.  Pretty sure he was her only major love interest that wasn't Erica's sloppy seconds. I ended up rooting for Edmund and Maria. At some point they stopped treating Brooke as a lead and when they did gave her some gross stories like falling in love with Laura's killer and all the stuff with Roscoe Born.

Brooke and Tad were better as friends and I just did not like How desperate Brooke was with Tad when he came back from the dead since she had Edmund wanting to be with her. She was so unforgiving when it came to Edmund's determination to prove that he was Hugo's son.

He was an abused and neglected child and that does not go away just because you are now an adult.  Could Edmund have handled it better, of course. Brooke was so inflexible.  It has always been a character flaw of Brooke, once she feels betrayed by a man it is hard for her to trust him again.  Even Erica told her that she needed to get over herself and go back to Edmund.. Erica who was not Brooke's biggest fan told her that her marriage to Tad was doomed to fail.

Tad was a selfish man child and did not deserve a woman like Brooke. Brooke's needy side came out when she was married to him.  Brooke has had great pairings on the show. I adored her and Tom together. I liked her with Adam but her treated her too much like she was a possession. Not to mention that he betrayed her with Dixie. Brooke was the best thing that ever happened to Adam and he knew this. Whereas Edmund was the best thing to have ever happened to Brooke. He called Brooke his one true love after he left everything to her after disinheriting Saint Maria in his will after he died. Brooke was not ready emotionally to give Mark what he needed in a relationship.  Brooke and Natalie were my favorites on the show.  I also loved their respective rivalries with Erica.

Brooke has ALWAYS been a very intelligent woman and she has proven that she will not be treated any less than the best by a man and that is why I love Brooke. She loved Adam with all of her heart  and it hurt her deeply to walk away from him but she did it anyway after he betrayed her with Dixie. She is strong beautiful smart capable and classy.   Julia Barr is a fantastic actress every time she cries, especially when Brooke is longing for her daughter Laura, I cry.. A parent's grief for their child that has passed away is eternal. It never leaves you..

There was also Pierce, although since I've always considered Pierce to basically be Jeremy without the accent (painter with a tortured history, introduced living in seclusion, had a mercenary past with Trevor) maybe that doesn't count.

I never really understood why Edmund's determination to prove his parentage was such a line in the sand for Brooke. I mean, yes, Edmund went to extreme lengths, but he was also up against all of Dimitri's wealth and power in trying to prove his claim. He needed to be extreme so as not to be crushed.

So very well said, Pearson80, thank you.

Brooke was one of my overall AMC favorites, definitely my favorite of her age group and when Show let her go, even though her role had been so diminished, things never felt good again.  So many reasons for that, I know, but Show finding a female character of that quality portrayed by an actress of that caliber unnecessary was indicative of how far the show had fallen from Agnes Nixon's vision.

But, when it was good, it was the best, and Julia Barr was, for me, always the best.
