Am watching the episode where Deacon has a sandwich named after him (Sandwich Out). The episode is humorous as always but it looks like something happen that wouldn't usually take place. A customer just had a "Deacon", enjoyed it and told the guys that and wanted Deacon to autograph the menu. Now, does the customer plan on walking out with the menu? Sorry for nitpicking, but it just seemed weird.

Curb Your Enthusiasm also has an episode like that, and it's one of my least favourites.  I just don't care for that kind of storyline I guess!!   You're right the lack of realism has something to do with it.  It's not relatable.

Christmas episodes! KOQ has a lot. They must have done 3 Christmas episodes every season.

My favorite is Ovary Action. Where Doug & Carrie want to get pregnant and Carrie is ovulating on the weekend Doug's parents are staying at the house. It has Jane Lynch as the fertility doctor. And a hilarious scene at the kitchen table where Doug & Carrie try to delicately explain to Joe & Janet why they need a little privacy this weekend.

Janet: Dougie can't make love with us in the next room!

Joe: Why the hell not? He did it in high school!

Did anyone watch the "Dire Strayts" episode lately? At the beginning Doug and Ray are discussing how much Ray owes Doug for their golf bets and then they go inside. What gets me, is that they are still wearing their golf shoes. Back then they could have still had metal spikes on their golf shoes or even those plasitc spikes. Both could have made nasty scratches on a non-carpeted floor.

What also bothers me is that Ray and Kevin love to play golf and they should have caught this mistake, you only wear golf shoes on the golf course, in pro shop and or the designated areas.

I have seen every episode of King of Queens so many times I can't even guess. There is only one scene in the entire series that doesn't work, and here it is.

In Hi-Def Jam, when Doug finagles an invitation from Carrie's boss Pruzan to watch the Super Bowl on his hi-def TV set. The scene where Doug discovers hi-def TV, delivering a package to a harried housewife and see's her TV.

A kid's off-screen voice yells Mom where's the peanut butter, she yells in the pantry, the kid yells there isn't any, she yells then there isn't any. The kid asks again, the mother yells that if the kid doesn't shut up she's going to smack him. Then she is rude to Doug, saying "are we finished here?" when Doug is asking questions about the TV.

It doesn't work. Nothing is going on, why is she so stressed? The scene is just a dud, not Kevin James fault. That is a pretty good record though. Of all the thousands of scenes in the series, I can only say ONE didn't land.

I totally agree.  They could have had various other stressful things going on than just a kid asking for peanut butter.

I guess this one mom was having a bad day. Did it seem like many other small part characters seemed a little surly? I guess that is what NYC does to a person over the years. You can't be all smiles everyday.

I never noticed that one.  But as a big fan of the show who has seen each episode too many times, I still say that there's way more scenes than that that don't work!  LOL.  Some episodes I can watch 20 times, some episodes I can't even watch.

New to this board. I was watching KOQ last night and was looking for a forum and found this. Hubby has it on right now. Just watched the episode where Doug and Deacon were on strike and the wives arranged  for them to hang out together. I know Carrie was going to work but where was Kelly going with her? I thought she didn't have a job.

The episode before it was when Doug was a sub teacher at Stephanie's school. It's weird that in the beginning of the show Carrie had  sister who eventually dissappeared.  Doug didn't have a sibling and years later has a sister.

Yeah, and Carrie started out with a sister and then she (for some reason) disappeared or was written out.

The actress who played Carrie’s younger sister, Lisa Rieffel, was someone whom TV casting directors seemed to like in the 90s, but she never quite clicked on the shows she joined (or she wound up on series that were cancelled). She essentially replaced Kristy McNichol on Empty Nest as the never-before-seen sister Emily, but was gone after a half season. She replaced Julie Haggerty as the secretary on Delta Burke’s short lived series Women of the House (spinoff of Designing Women). She was Sharon Gless’ stepdaughter on her short lived Rosie O’Neill series (which Gless did after Cagney and Lacey). She was Ann Jillian’s daughter on the sitcom Jillian did after It’s a Living.

MrsEVH did say that in the post you are quoting.

You have just witness the Biggest Brain Fart  ever. If I can remember right from Sunday, I was thinking pf how Richie disappeared and how the actors name was Romano and then I thought about Carrie's sister without thinking of what I had just read and type out that stupid comment. Bottom line, my apologies to anyone that reads that and especially to MrsEVH!

Right now I am narrowing my top 3 episodes down to this:

Nocturnal Omission:  Deacon is separated from Kelly and meets a gorgeous flight attendant.  This one cracks me up because Doug unexpectedly shows up at his place.  I don't know. It always makes me laugh so much.

Food Fight:  Such a classic.  Doug and Spence's chef girlfriend are like soulmates.  She cooks for him, he gives her feedback on the food, Carrie can't stand it.

Offensive Fowl:  Doug falls in love with a chicken he almost crashes into and stops eating meat and becomes uber-pretentious and smart.  I love this plot so much.  It's so creative and I love anytime Doug does the glasses perched on his nose thing.

This is one that followed in the same format as some other episodes where Carrie forbids Doug from doing somethings, that either makes her jealous or upsets her for the most insignificant or outrageous reasons.

Carrie "banned" him from eating her food. Just like she banned him the Italian restaurant with the rude waiter and buying a motorcycle.

It is funny how Carrie gets stinky jealous at the stupidest things, like Spence's girlfriend's cooking, and Doug's hot hairdresser.

But the times when she has met someone Doug actually had sex with in the past, like his high-school girlfriend Margy, and the Saks girl played by Janeane Garofalo, she couldn't care less. Even Doug's hot trainee didn't phase her.

But let a waitress at Cooper's take a shine to Doug, Carrie goes ballistic!

LOL.

That reminds me of the episode where a woman with a VERY sexy voice leaves a voicemail thanking Doug for a wonderful time at the beach, and becomes obsessively in love with Doug and won't stop calling.  Carrie doesn't give a shit then either.

Love that one. So funny when Dr. Heffernan turns out to be this short bald headed guy. Another episode where Leah's husband is in. I think he's been in 3 or 4 episodes playing different characters.

Here's something I noticed.  In the beginning of each episode they show the outside of their house that has no porch at all.  However in a few episodes it's shown with a large porch where you could put patio furniture on it. I recently noticed it after the one where Doug and Deacon are on strike and hang out with Arthur.

Yeah, she cared. Only because she thought the fortune teller got him mixed up with the other Doug Heffernan

After this phone message, I think that Carrie assumed Dr. Heffernan was bisexual and probably left it as that

There have been a few people playing different characters, especially his wife, her husband and relatives.

"Arthur's" real life daughter was also in a few episodes but I think(?) she played the same character. Arthur kept ruining her life and getting her fired from various jobs.

I didn't say jealous, just that she cared, because it could have been her married to a Dr Heffernan and living in Manhatten.

I had to look up her husband. He's was in quite a few epsiodes.  Both of Nicole's pregnancies were written into the 2 shows she was on (King of Queens & Rita Rocks).

I was kind of disappointed in the way it was written in the KoQ episode. I know it's a comedy and all that, but having the guy dump her and playing comedy moments off that wasn't to my liking. I thought they could have ended it on a happier note for her.

I agree. At least on Rita Rocks she was married with a surprise pregnancy.

Just out of curiosity. Is this real true, that men really hate it when their wives or girlfriends wear their hair up in a bun, or was it just used as an excuse to make another funny episode, "Bun Dummy"?

Link to comment

I've had two guys in my life make fun of me when I put my hair up.  Never guys I was dating though, but a friend and a brother.  I think a lot of guys really do hate it.  They're raised to believe that long hair down is beautiful and that's about it.  I've dated guys that love ponytails though.  They probably find it girly.  I also know guys who love the Princess Leia buns.  This was also a subplot on "Friends".  LOL.

Yeah. that got Ross mad at Chandler when Chandler said that it reminded him of his mother and that got Ross thinking of his mom in his fantasy.

Did Ritchie disappear after they brought on Danny (Kevin's RL brother)?   I don't recall a show with both of them in the cast.  I know Spence was there when Ritchie was on.

I’m nearly certain I read the actor playing Ritchie asked to leave because he got a new show and that’s why he disappeared off. His new show didn’t work out so I was surprised he never came back for a guest appearance.

I thought he was actually Ray Ramano's brother or cousin, because the show was a spinoff from "Everybody Loves Raymond". I found out later they aren't related at all. I am one of the many thousands that thought wrong. I think Deacon and Spence were the only ones who didn't have family members that appeared on the show.

I meant real family members. Doug (Kevin) had his brother and wife on, Leah (Carrie) had her sisters and husband on, Jerry (Arthur) had his wife and daughters on, and Nicole (Holly) had her husband on.

This is one of the first things I notice about any show I watch...whether the real exterior they use matches up with the set design. It almost never does, and it drives me crazy, but that's probably the architect in me. Most other people seem to not even notice, lol.

I'd never seen KoQ before the pandemic started, and now it's one of my favorite sitcoms. I recently started watching the re-runs again. I think the single funniest storyline is the one where Doug pisses off the waitress and then she wants to fight him out in the parking lot. The visual of her pacing back and forth outside the window and then staring in at Doug with daggers in her eyes makes me howl every time. I think that actress playing the waitress was perfect in that part.

Someone upthread mentioned what they thought was the only scene in the series that doesn't work, but I think there are several. I just saw the episode where Doug lies to Carrie about having to work late when he really goes to play mudball with the guys. When he gets home all dirty, he tells Arthur he's going up to shower and not to tell Carrie he saw him. Carrie comes in seconds later and talks to Arthur for like a minute, pokes her head in the living room and hears the shower running, and less than a minute later Doug is back downstairs all cleaned up and in dry, clean clothes. How did he have time to do all that??

Another scene that doesn't work for me is when Doug shows up to Carrie's work function at some penthouse apartment and decides to change in the elevator because the front desk guy won't let him change in the back room or whatever. I get that they needed that to happen for the joke of the elevator door opening into the apartment while Doug's pants were down, but what kind of idiot thinks he has time to change clothes in an elevator?? I know he said he was expecting a hallway, but...what if someone had been in the hall? It just doesn't work as a joke for me. Doug could've just changed in his truck.

Does anyone else get CMT?  Country Music Channel?  They are playing King of Queens, The Office, Frasier, and some other sitcoms I don't care about, which is great.

This week, they're airing the finales of KoQ and The Office, which again  -- great.

You'd think after that, they'd re-start everything with the pilot, right?  Nope!  They're going to some random episodes in like, Season 5!  Who makes these decisions?!

I think if I had to pick a favorite episode it would be the New Orleans one, where Doug and Carrie receive a $1,500 check for a wedding gift and want to use it for a trip to N.O.  The couple who gave them the gift want to go also since N.O. is their favorite place.  Doug and Carrie lie to them about going to N.O. because they don't want them along.  The second half of the episode involves Doug's increasing paranoia that they will bump into the other couple at any moment, from him leaping across the bed yelling, "Caller I.D.!" to hurling Carrie's cell phone into the Mississippi River as a jazz band starts playing "When the Saints Go Marching In."

I think when networks order these sitcoms they have special prices. When they get them in chronological order they are paying a higher price, but they get more episodes or seasons. Some seasons may be at higher prices also because they were more popular. I.E. the Seinfeld tv series. Many people didn't think season 1 or even most of season 2 weren't popular and thought the series would get cancelled. But season 3 was a blockbuster and Seinfeld became one of the most popular sitcoms of all time.

Lol, I just watched that episode tonight for the first time.  You're right--it was about one minute.  So, Doug went upstairs, undressed, showered, dried off, got re-dressed, and was back downstairs in one minute.  Now maybe there's a bit of dialog between Carrie and Authur that was edited out in syndication.  But even with an extra minute, it would still be the fastest shower in history.  Lol.

I always assumed that they took advantage of that all too familiar " dramatic license that allows little certain things to happen w/o proper explanations

Today I was thinking about the episode where Carrie wants to stay at a hotel instead of Doug's parents while visiting. I totally agree with her, even though they dragged their friends into the mess and the hotel was taken over by spring-breakers. When I'm on vacation, I want to eat what I want and come and go where/when I want. Carrie and Doug had an actual curfew! LOL.

If that happen to me I would go buy a camera take a few pictures of that giant bat (as Doug refers to it) and then demand a complete refund or a free two weeks stay.
