Survivor Hall of Fame

Back in the day, this was a popular topic.  Xfinity.TV has a quasi-official Survivor Hall of Fame, with new members inducted each fall.  I just found out that they had opened this year's voting; it closes Saturday at noon Eastern time.  Rules are all at that link, but you can essentially vote by Facebook, Twitter, or email.  Voting is done Dancing with the Stars style, in that the votes of the public count for half, and the votes of the "Executive Committee," which consists of Holmes, other media members, Probst himself and at least one other producer (hence the quasi-officialness of the effort), and the current inductees, count for the other half.

Any Survivor castaway is eligible except for those who are or were part of Survivor:Cambodia and the current inductees.  Those current members are:

Parvati Shallow, “Boston” Rob Mariano, Richard Hatch, Russell Hantz, Sandra Diaz-Twine, Cirie Fields, Ozzy Lusth, Tom Westman, Rob Cesternino, Ethan Zohn, Amanda Kimmel, Kim Spradlin, John Cochran, and Jonny Fairplay.

Not everyone; it's not on the homepage yet, but the Twitter feed links to the post with John Kirhoffer's ballot. He has Rudy, Coach and Tyson.

Also, did you mean Fairplay's ballot? Didn't he and Rupert both start on Season 7? If he's in there as a "personality" pick, I can see Rupert for the same reason.

Surprised to not see Stephenie LaGrossa in there.

But I'm boycotting until they include Wanda Shirk and Judd Sergeant.  I assume Chicken Morris is a Hall of Famer Emeritus.

I think you have to nominate them to get them included. If they are already members then they can't be nominated again.

FairPlay picked Rupert which is strange since I would have thought that FairPlay liked smarter players. I'm surprised Rupert hasn't already been inducted since he is so popular

Yul should have been inducted. Hmm, if I can think of enough people and figure out their last names then I may try this out.

Sorry, I did indeed mean Fairplay's ballot.

Ugh. I find the HOF interesting, but in a car-crash kind of way. It's like an assembly of all the players I find overedited and overrated. If Rupert, Coach and Tyson make it in this year I will vomit. And I actually like Coach.

I'm pulling for Jerri and Natalie. I guess I could live with Tina if it means knocking out the other 3.

I agree, I mean I am a fan of Coach but he does not belong there and there is no way Tyson should be there.  After all he basically voted himself out so I cannot see how he could be in any kind of HOF.  As much as I hate to say this, I would consider Rupert a HOF player mainly because he was such a focal point of season seven and All-Stars.  That is probably enough for him to make it.  Heck I would put him in there just for that shit shelter he built in All-Stars, I never laughed at the show more than that.

They lost me at Fairplay.  He quit (technically asked to be voted out) on day 3 of his second season in 2008 and was the 14th inductee in 2013.  I don't get honoring him.

Even though he quit his second season to this day his lie about his grandma is still the greatest lie ever told on Survivor. Thats what earns him a Hall of Fame spot. IMHO.

I understand your point, but using that as a criterion opens the door for people like Dreamz to get in.

Maybe  hall of fame for Survivor moments instead of players would be fun.  Then you have the dead grandma, Parvati's double idol move in HvV,the look on Alex' face in Fiji when he realized the Three Amigos were screwed, and an extended montage of Russell's face during the Samoa reunion.

Don't forget Rupert and the shoes; purely in terms of entertainment value, one of my favorite game moments - and entirely appropriate to the pirate theme prevalent in Survivor: Cook Islands.  :)

My favorite moment from that first episode was actually Sandra considering selling one of her tribemates in the marketplace to get more supplies.

I see your point but I do think Fairplay's lie is kind of iconic because it was set up before the season even started and involved his friends compliance.

All Dreamz did really was break a promise.

The idea of iconic moments is great though.

I'm fine with FairPlay in the "hall of fame" because I think he played a good game his first time out. It's too bad his post show antics overshadow the game he played because I do think he is underrated. I also don't mind Rupert getting in because after all stars he was probably one of the most popular players to ever be on Survivor.

This was the only topic I started back in the old days of TWoP. Glad to see it resurrected here.

On Twitter, Gordon Holmes (the "curator" of the Hall of Fame and write for XfinityTV.com) said that he had received ballots from 19 of the 25 possible voters. So I've been trying to piece together who the 25 voters are -- some slack off, some have never voted, but Gordon has said before that once you're either inducted or have voted before, you're always welcomed back. So some slackers might fall in the "inducted" category (Hatch and Tom have never voted since they've been inducted) or the "voted before but haven't every year" (TV Guide's Rob Moynihan and executive producer David Burris are inaugural voters who have disappeared in the last couple years).

But anyway, I think this is the list (lapsed voters or never voted in italics):

Producers:

Jeff Probst

Jesse Jensen

Matt Van Wagenen

John Kirhoffer

David Burris

Press Corps:

Gordon Holmes

Dalton Ross

Drusilla Moorehouse

Mara Reinstein

Tom Santilli

Josh Wigler (confirmed on Twitter as added this year)

Rob Moynihan

Inductees:

Parvati Shallow

Rob Mariano

Russell Hantz

Richard Hatch

Sandra Diaz-Twine

Cirie Fields

Ozzy Lusth

Tom Westman

Rob Cesternino

Ethan Zohn

Amanda Kimmel

Kim Spradlin

John Cochran

Jonny Fairplay

That's 26 names. Let's see how it turns out.

Rudy, I can see. He was old but he was a badass. He openly told people he didn't like them and still would have won the game if he'd won that last IC. And I grew to love Jerri, but Hall of Fame? Eh. I guess she was the show's first femme fatale and because she did it partly to further her acting career, she was something of a pilgrim famewhore, but she never really did anything remarkable in the game.

Coach, though. Ugh. Let's not reward that nonsense.

Last year, instead of players they did Tribal Councils instead.  Those winners were: the Borneo FTC (I was hoping someone would give Kelly Wigglesworth a glass of water in tribute as she was voted out this season), Micronesia Episode 13 (Erik gives away immunity and gets voted out), and HvV Episode 10 (Parvati's double idol play).

Those are probably the three I would have picked as well.  Maybe also Tyson voting himself out in HvV.
