Kromm November 28, 2015 Share November 28, 2015 Brilliant super-fun episode. Even split into two separate interviews (based on the common movies between Depp/Cumberbatch and McAvoy/Radcliffe), it was still a great one. Of the two the Depp/Cumberbatch segment was the keeper though. Link to comment
dusang November 28, 2015 Share November 28, 2015 I must watch as, based on history, I would have guessed the reverse! 1 Link to comment
Kromm November 28, 2015 Author Share November 28, 2015 Depp just can't HELP being weird--it's who he is at his core--so he was of course very weird. But it worked because SlumberWatch and Graham played off of it. McAvoy just seemed kind of grumpy, and while Radcliffe did his level best to keep their segment interesting, it just wasn't as dynamic as the other half of the show. Link to comment
MissLucas November 28, 2015 Share November 28, 2015 Cumberbatch/Depp had more outrageous physical shenanigans mostly by Cumberbatch and as mentioned above that was probably in part to make Depp feel more at ease. He does not look comfortable in interviews - but what he said about kids and their parents in hospitals was extremely well put and had quite an impact on the audience. The McAvoy/Radcliffe segment was different but great fun - those two on set must be a riot. Loved the bit about being someone's 'allowance' and Channing Tatum. 1 Link to comment

SmithW6079 March 1, 2016 Share March 1, 2016 (edited) BBC America just showed this one. How stoned was Johnny Depp? The bear bit was funny, so good on Benedict Cumberbatch for having a sense of humor. James McAvoy and Daniel Radcliffe were hilarious. I thought they played off well against each other. If I recall, "Victor Frankenstein" got mediocre reviews, didn't it? Edited March 2, 2016 by SmithW6079 1 Link to comment
attica March 2, 2016 Share March 2, 2016 How stoned was Johnny Depp? I don't understand why he was speaking in a slightly Liverpudlian accent. Was he channeling Ringo? I preferred the McAvoy/Radcliffe set to the Depperbatch one; I like their senses of humor immensely. I felt like Cumby was trying to pull Depp out of his anesthetic state, and it made the segment lag for me. Link to comment
dubbel zout March 5, 2016 Share March 5, 2016 (edited) I think Depp is always low-energy when he does publicity. It makes it hard to understand him as well as get too interested in whatever he's promoting. I wish Graham had made Cumberbatch say "penguin" at least once. Hee. The McAvoy/Radcliffe segment was definitely the more entertaining, despite Cumberbatch beating up a gigantic bear. Edited March 5, 2016 by dubbel zout 3 Link to comment
peeayebee March 6, 2016 Share March 6, 2016 For me, it was excruciating every time Depp spoke. What a dud. Actually, I can't remember if I'd ever seen him on a talk show before, but I must have. Anyway, although Cumberbatch is always a terrific guest, I was so glad when their segment was over. I loved Cumberbatch doing the Otter poses. McAvoy and Radcliffe were much more enjoyable for me. 3 Link to comment
Ailianna March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 I absolutely love both Daniel Radcliff and James MacAvoy, so I loved their segment. I've only seen James in a few things, but I've loved him on Graham's couch. Daniel, on the other hand, I've seen in person on Broadway many times, and he is just amazing. When he was talking about fans coming up to him and only talking about some of his work (Harry Potter, cough cough), I was wondering what he would do if I went up to him gushing about How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying or Equus. 2 Link to comment

I have watched that segment about "meeting fans" so many times -- honestly every part of it makes me laugh. I love Jame's story of the "fancy dress party" (which I didn't understand in the British context the first several times I watched but I get it now) and being the woman's "allowance". I also love how knowingly Daniel nodded when James mentioned "a List." Every element of those stories amuses me. I also love that later in the episode (after the music) James mentions that he's Channing Tatum's boss in the X universe and he can just tell him to get fat. Pettiness FTW!! (And I'm pretty sure this is the ep where Daniel shows off his "Rear of the Year" award? I wish there were a way for me to fully convey my cackle of glee in text!) attica March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 (edited) Yeah, fancy dress is Brit-speak for costume party, not black tie. Black-tie is just, you know, Tuesday. (Or as Jack Donaghy would say when asked why he donned his tux at the office "It's six o'clock -- what am I, a farmer?") Edited March 7, 2016 by attica 2 Link to comment
