I like the Double-racer Roadblock Speed-Bump.  They should formalize this as the standard for the future.  There is no extra cost involved in setup, and everyone will know what to expect.

A Speed Bump that's a double-racer Road Block feels like the Road Block version of a U-Turn. That's a change: ever since its first use, the Speed Bump has been, for the most part, a gussied-up time penalty: not always the same amount of time, but generally less time than it takes to complete a Road Block or Detour task. So as others have said, it's served as a handicap, but less of a kiss of death than a U-Turn unless it's the kind of leg where there's no bunching and very little chance to claw back time from the main tasks.

Still, I'd be okay with that -- with the second RB racer not being added to the overall RB count -- but only in legs that don't have a U-Turn. Theoretically, a leg with two "task-sized" handicaps might get very interesting if different teams had to face them, but in practice the smart choice would be to kick the team that's down. That in turn reminds me that there are not many legs in the Race in its current form that don't include either a U-Turn or a Speed Bump.

Anyway, India and Emmy-leg territory, with KF and culture shock, especially heading eastwards from the relative orderliness of Europe. I still think Justin's an interesting reflection of... well, the kind of people who have watched since TAR Classic and post here and probably have an ideal gameplan in their heads even if they'd never apply. I certainly feel that. You'd like to think that a superfan team that's also a successful team could be so while being unassuming and humble, but... maybe that wouldn't happen once you're on the race.

When I first heard that they would both have to do the Roadblock, I assumed they'd have to do it concurrently!  They wouldn't help each other, but they'd both have to complete the task on their own.  That way, the penalty was that the slower of the two of them, would determine how long they took to complete the task.  If they both raced through it quickly, then they'd move on earlier.  If one did it well, but the other performed poorly, then they would be delayed.  Essentially, they were being forced to pick their worst player for the task.

I think that would have been less of a deathblow than having to do it consecutively.

But if we must have a Speed Bump (and I'm dead against punishing a team for not doing anything wrong) it needs to be consistent.  Not consistent in duration or difficulty, but consistent in that everybody knows exactly what they will be facing.  And if this results in a cost-saving which helps TAR stay in business, I'm OK with it.

I still think concurrently might be better than consecutively, though!

I think concurrently would have been fine.  Not only would the weaker team member determine the time, but they would face a disadvantage of both parties being tired instead of just one.  But if they didn't want to have them do that, they could have given the second team member a smaller load of laundry.  Or they could have made the speedbump having to fold all the laundry or deliver it somewhere.  Something that isn't as difficult as the initial task, but is still a challenge.

I don't think Kelsie meant to imply that Catholics are not Christians.  To me, it's like saying, "I'm vegetarian and he's vegan."  I think her point was 'I'm Christian and he's really Christian' and we're cool with the blessing.'

Exactly! I don't see why her statement is taken as somehow being mis-informed about the overlap between Catholic and Christian. She was just stating their religions (possibly in response to a crew member's question) And that they were now getting a blessing from someone of a different faith.

Amen, lost in all the quibbling about her failure to use the term "Protestant" is the crux of the matter, that she as a non-Hindu was appreciative of a native religious tradition - paired with a masterful U-Turn play that would've made Kautilya* proud, Miss Gerckens and her boytoy earned quite a bit of respect.

No he was from Season 6 and is from LA and his wife (Victoria) was a former Playboy bunny.  He was verbally abusive to her on some legs culminating at the Berlin pitstop where he physically shoved her on the mat in frustration over something.  Phil called him a little at the time that added to the controversy.

I agree with you totally about Justin.  He's is just a highly excitable yet appreciative geek he goes over the top at times.

Oh my.  Junk punches all around then.

Phil called him a little...what? lol.   Sorry, I have to know this.

I'm starting to see the mom as an ageing Blanche du Bois who's game for tough stuff, and frankly that's endeareing her to me - it's not often that we see moms with mascara/false eyelashes? in place here and me? I love it! Plus I love the southern accent, and hers is lovely.

She does not miss putting on her full face for every leg of the race.  I appreciate it, even if that lipstick is a little dated.

I know right!  Although, I think you're much too classy to watch all the shows I watch :)

For a minute I thought you were making a Golden Girls joke, and then I would have just assumed I was so tired that you were an alternate personality!

Who knows? Let's see where we meet again. (Nice of you to think me classy, but my watching is all over the board, as you may discover when we meet again. Until then, all the best to you, you made my day by responding "in real time" and by deeming me classy - shrieking in the most unclassiest way!!).

You've referenced a high end photographer and a Tennessee Williams play casually in your posts.  You can't fool me, you're oozing class all over!

I'm actually a bit of an ass :)  So, you know I'm being honest.  However, I think you're in good company, there are some other pretty classy, funny posters here.

I'm okay with this as well.  Justin is annoying and irritating, but he and Diana do know how to race.

I think the Green Team does decently in the tasks and (as you point out) also do a very good job getting between tasks.  Those two skills together (task competence and usually not losing time in between tasks) are a tough combination to beat.  They're in first place leg after leg because they're overwhelmingly competent.

Enjoyed your complete post but regards this I think we can both agree to add a third talent to Green Team as well.  They actually seem to READ THE CLUE.

The FF in Rio is the only gray area regards clue reading with then I think.  But my take is it wasn't a mistake in clue reading either.  I just think at sea level the breeze didn't seem that strong until they got up on the cliffs and experienced the difference.  That or super fan Justin wanted to do his Peggy impression from Season 2 so badly ("We'll fall off the cliff and die!!!!"). that he became oblivious of the wind until too late, heh.

Sorry, I missed a word when I was typing. Phil called him a little ON it.  No calling of names.  Phil seemed more worried about comforting Victoria at the time who had broken down crying if I recall.  I got to admit Season 6 isn't my favorite so I haven't re-watched it since it's original broadcast years back so could be a bit foggy on what exactly Phil did.

I didn't watch that season, but I just watched the Youtube clip of Jonathan pushing Victoria and I think the poster meant that Phil calls him out a little on the mat.  Basically, Victoria has walked away, crying.  Phil tells Jonathan that he should go talk to her.  He walks over and yells at her again.  She tells him to go away.  And he says that it is a race and that there is no need for compassion.

After seeing the little of him that I saw, I am glad I didn't watch that season.  Jonathan makes Justin look like the world's most likable guy.

Oh yeah. I can't stand Justin, and I don't especially care for the way he often speaks to and treats Diana, but I would take him over Jonathan in a heartbeat.

I'm not a huge fan of the Green Team but I was a little relieved they got to the U-Turn first.  It's interesting they didn't U-Turn the Boys out of spite.  I guess Justin can surprise you.

I felt a bit badly for Team Texas since they did acknowledge their mistakes in the end and it would be nice to have some eyecandy until the end.  But still, they lost because of their vendetta against Justin, stretching all the way back to the episode of the last U-Turn.

I'm so ready to see the Paparazzi go.  I hope they're next, but the Mother/son team and the Cheerleaders are always floundering, so they may be the next two.

The reporters did use the U-Turn as intended, but since I've never liked the U-Turn concept, they've lost my support.  I guess I'll be cheering Team Green to win the whole thing.  I guess it isn't the worst thing to have a Superfan win even if he's arrogant as hell.

I would have liked to see someone beat the Green Team and U-turn them because that would have been more interesting. But Justin wasn't too annoying this leg.

Tanner and Josh got annoying at times but they also had their moments. I think I like the tall one better. Anyway, I wouldn't object to them coming back for an All-Stars season. They were never the worst.

Paparazzi are the worst. WHEN will they leave?
