I'll be at peace with whatever happens in tonight's Ravens/Steelers game.  It's unfortunate (for me) that, similar to last year, Pittsburgh went into the postseason with a significant flaw or two.  Last year they rallied (or had to) but needed to win in Week 18 & get help.  Go figure an injury occurred to Watt.  Add that to the snowstorm, and the motivation ended.

No big injuries headed into the postseason, but what a pathetic showing to wrap up the season.  Coach Mike Tomlin treated the Eagles loss like it's no big deal AND that it's just one game & can happen.  Problem is that they've already lost 3 times already to teams that didn't make the playoffs at all, and since that postgame conference post-Philly they haven't won yet.  Probably will not until the summer or fall.

I guess I was a bit salty with the take that Cincinnati and Pittsburgh should swap.  I think it's fair to mojoween to say as much outright, but also say that she's right.  At least based on what would be worth it.  While I'd disagree due to the Bengals horrific start to the season & having an inferior record, I wouldn't know who would win the game.  Maybe the league will go down the path of choosing the best team and disregard records (unless you won the division).  However, it would be tough putting them over Pittsburgh since they're in the same division and PIT has a better record.  The SOS for the Steelers is super superior, even more than Baltimore's, especially looking at the 3 games in 11 days win/loss %.

Anyway, you know I couldn't care less when I have come to terms that a Cincy/Baltimore game would be better for the NFL.  The 10 point margin in favor of Baltimore could have been twice as much, and I'd still pick the Ravens.  Despite hell on Earth for the Black & Gold, they didn't cancel the game, which I suppose means that a road win is possible.  Doubtful, but not impossible.

After all, the Steelers have never lost a road playoff game to anyone within its division.  Lamar's postseason success isn't very good, and other than Kansas City, Pittsburgh has had a lot of success against the Ravens.  The problem is, recently it's been more luck than not.  Barely winning this year at Acrisure, and in the same venue, the WRs kept dropping the damn ball.  Also a backdoor win for PIT.  Flowers out is not good but it may not matter because I don't know how Pittsburgh is going to score.  28-24 Ravens over Steelers makes sense if the offense can show up along with the defense.  Otherwise 35-10 in favor of the AFC North Champions (at least 35 points) shows that trends matter.  Baltimore has been playing great football, the Steelers seasons end when they clinch a non-losing season.  That's it.

For me it’s anyone but the Chiefs. I don’t care who it is, I just want a new champion. I know it probably wont be any of my teams, but I don’t care.

Despite my jokes and/or comments in the past, I actually don't hate the Chiefs.  I think their success puts a smile to my face because the fans on the East of a dynasty that lasted a fifth of a century are stressed out by it.  They think that Kansas City will do more in less time, and that the league is aiding them in the process.

Plus, I still admire a guy named Andy Reid.  Him and Spags are 2 individuals that I respect big time.  So seeing them as big parts of something special is decent for me.

Still, I think it's more that I'd like to see something different than what I've seen for about a half dozen years.  This pretty much happened during the 90s with Dallas (anybody but Dallas).  I guess I got my "wish" though I don't recall asking for it to last 3 decades, but oh well

I have more in the dislike column than the like at this point with the Chiefs, but, yeah, Andy Reid and Steve Spagnuolo are big likes.

I'm sick of the Chiefs, but the AFC team I'd least like to see in the SB is the Ravens.

The only one of "my" teams in the playoffs is the Rams, and I doubt they're getting past the wild card; they are certainly not going the distance.  I usually root for the NFC team in the SB (although, it's hard if it's the Eagles), and hope it winds up being the Lions this year.

And I'm not sure the NFL isn't.

My Raven hate is well noted.  It's personal for me because my team is in their division but the fact so many others dislike them validates my feelings.

Every successful team is always being accused of getting an unfair advantage by TPTB.  It kind of makes me wish Brady had been involved with someone as popular as Swift - the complaining from other teams' fans (the NFL wants her groupies to tune in!) would have been epic.

IIRC, I think Bundchen was more epic, possibly had more money, and might have been better looking/more attractive than Brady Taylor.  I think there was less complaining and more pure jealously from everywhere else outside of New England.

Still baldryanr is spot on.  Everyone that's been successful is going to be the target of being the beneficiary of legacy treatment.  Not just in the NFL, in the NBA and in the other major sports.  It's top notch for Major League Baseball in not so much of a pleasant way, and in College Hoops & College Football, it's the worst (at least until the TP & NIL Era but not really at the end of the day).  Kansas City, like New England has been fortunate a ton.  However, there are a lot of bad teams in sports.  On an annual level.  I think it's more fortune & less luck.  After everyone complains about officiating I guess I can understand the frustration, but the fact is your teams suck & were destined to lose anyway.

I don't know what to think of when it comes to Baltimore.  It's a hard pass but Jackson is an angel compared to many of the players in the past.  That 2000 team: Well, it disdain was worth it since it helped make the rivalry that damn epic.  OTOH, LJ's predecessor was so much more quiet, but I'll be odd if he doesn't hoist the title.  Even Trent won.  Actually, others helped win while he was on the team starting.

No.  No no no no no NO.  Sub-.500 teams hosting playoff games is hilarious.  Don’t want to travel?  Win your division.  Beastquake was one of the funniest things that has ever happened in the playoffs in any sport.

They said this before when the NFC South winner didn't have a winning record.

This Houston LA game suddenly got more fun to watch.

Looks like the Chargers offense decided not to show up. Oh well, two more teams to go. Hope they all don’t lose this weekend.

I think I know what you mean, but otherwise, that's technically impossible.  With my luck, those teams that are destined to lose will do just that, but not by much.

You know, it's a waste of time saying that "I'm not gonna watch the NFL ever again!"  Because A: That's totally not true; 2: The league ain't going nowhere over one's departure from its viewing, and D: I think it's not a super big deal about that postseason change.  Which will be proven when fans still tune in.

The issue is that the fans will be as happy as they'll be when they move the Super Bowl to the Sunday before President's Day.  EXCEPT?  They'll instead waste their breath & energy whining, crying, and complaining about something else.  In lieu of a simple "Thank You Mister Commissioner!"

I hate it because while it's ideal, having division winners travel devalues the part of having divisions in the first place.  Which is a problem the NFL created themselves.  The 2002 structure was neat, no thanks to the Houston Texans.  However, there are way too many divisions in the league.  And they've looked the same for nearly a quarter century.  Maybe reshape things, and rather 4 teams per division, have 8 teams (4 divisions of 8 teams).  Also, stop adding so many teams to the playoffs.

As bluegirl147 mentioned, they've revisited this in the past.  Nothing has changed, period.  It didn't change 2 years ago after Dallas pounded Tampa, and even with the Rams/Vikings outcome it's not a lock to change the format.  Plus it needs 24 votes to pass, and while things usually get approved, I don't think this one is a lock

I think this occurred between the Chiefs and Falcons a long time ago  (2 point defensive TD)

Google tells me Philly did it against TB earlier this season.

Is this a new ish rule.  I swear I've seen points after being blocked and ran back for TDs.  Or am I remembering blocked FGs?

I've heard people say Sreeler fans are just spoiled from all their previous success but that is not it.  It's the seeming of being content with the mediocrity that happens every season when we get to the last 5 or 6 games.  Just having a winning season isn't enough.  We always finish just well enough to get mid range draft picks. As much as it would suck maybe they need to have a losing season.  Might be a wake up call for the whole organization.

Is Mike Tomlin the Doc Rivers of the NFL?

No.  I do see why there would be a comparison, but no he is not.  For one, I think Doc has been fired a quarter dozen times since Mike Tomlin became the head coach 18 years ago.  Whatever the number is would match the number of times he lost his job in that time frame.  Mike Tomlin is more Marty than anyone else.

In response to the thoughts of a wake up call that bluegirl147 made (and I feel bad that you opted to watch the game): those calls have been make for over a half decade.  You would have to lay odds to profit if you were to bet on the same conclusion each year at this time of a calendar year over the next 2-3 years.

IMO, I think the worry might not stop with the head coach.  I'd speculate on whether the current owners will still be owning the team when all is said and done

Were the Steelers even supposed to make it to the playoffs this year? I feel like they outperformed, but I can see the annoyance from fans for always crapping out in the playoffs. Welcome to being a Bills fan!

No they were not.  By the way, I should say, "I now know what the Bills went through for 20 years."  However, this is familiar territory.  No one in your area had 20 years of losing.  That's 20 years with a professional franchise ending with a losing record consecutively.  Doesn't help that the same team has emulated that drought & started a new streak (save for 2018) around the same time Pittsburgh won it's last NFL playoff game.

As mentioned, they were not expected to make the playoffs.  In fact, they were supposed to finish 4th in the AFC North and have its first losing season in over 20 years.  That back nine was the most brutal thing I've ever seen in my life (Steelers schedule).  However, they have been in more impossible spots (2013, even 2022, and 2019 to some degree), and somehow, they find ways to win those games.  Therefore, there is no reason to have a slump like this.  I'll give my thoughts on this later, as it's now time to focus on what hopefully will be much better action with 3 awesome games & six decent teams.  To be brief, they play for .500 ball.  There was a meme somewhere that had Mike Tomlin turning into Hue Jackson, which stated, "Mike Tomlin after he gets over 8 wins."

Per Adam Schefter this morning, Mike Vrabel and the Patriots have reached a deal where he becomes the new HC.  I think it's a great fit.

But could Rex Ryan be anymore embarrassing?  On NFL Sunday when asked his opinion he stated, "Hopefully I beat him two times a year.".  We know you want the Jets job, we get it.  But geez tone it down.  Won't you be embarrassed if you don't get it, after the blatant public self promotion?

The steelers have a change in ownership?   The Rooneys are one of the original owners.   That team is not up for sale.  I don't think they will even shuffle "ownership" amongst family members.

I never said anything about the Rooneys selling the team.  I am aware that owners can't get fired.

Unless I'm missing something, I do not think there is a favorable history of an owner or owners maintaining control of a team, business, or company if a ton of sponsors pull out & stop doing business with TPTB.

Again, I'm not saying that's expected to happen, but nothing's for sure.

I agree about that.  I wouldn't bet that Rooney or Mara are exiting I'm just saying that nothing's 100& (or 0%).  Just like the weather. I never thought the Bowlen Family was going to exit the Denver Broncos (with ease).  Dan Snyder? Ditto, but I had optimism that I'd be proven wrong.

Speaking of who's not going anyway (albeit on less certain terms): The Steelers fans might want to shut up about organizational change.  Until proven otherwise, Mike Tomlin isn't expected to go anywhere.  He's there for a very long time (he's only 52 & not for long), and get used to being just another team in the National Football League.

I don't know what the standards are for the New York Giants, but who knows if they'll win another playoff game.  At least they're not loyal to a fault.  If a change is needed they'll make it & have.  That's the issue for the Black and Gold.  It's too bad that Pittsburgh gives its thanks with a middle finger, but it's just a game at the end of the day.

Finally, IMO, there are some days that I'd rather have Jerry Jones as the owner of the team I admire over Art II.
