Better football over on TCM - they're showing M*A*S*H tonight (part of their tribute to Donald Sutherland) and halftime coincided with the football scenes. They weren’t embarrassed like last year, and honestly this made Dallas look more pedestrian rather than an indictment on how bad the Giants may or may not be. I want to be this generous, because Dallas was indeed no winner here, they just escaped, but when one of the announcers - I was already too far into I hate everyone territory to register who - said Daniel Jones did great, my cat put her paws over her ears knowing what was coming, because my only reaction in the moment is to shout at the TV Great, how? He underthrows more times per game than I fart per night (ask the cat - it's a lot), and every single point the Giants managed was via FG because he and his offense can't find the fucking end zone. I'm sick of this. So many seasons of okay, it looks like they're addressing their problems, and then other than one hopeful year we're still a collection of problems, just maybe fewer from one year to the next. We'll see how this one shakes out, obviously, and I'm ride or die, but I'm also hella frustrated. 1 Link to comment

Pretty sure that call was made. Man that was a lot of laundry on the field as Al Michaels would say. And did comment about the penalties. That first quarter when the defense was playing 10 yards off Malik Nabors I yelled so loud at the tv my husband in another room came out to check on me. I told him I was fine just that Dallas had done something stupid -- AGAIN. Link to comment
Calvada September 27 Share September 27 I don't know if the league office gets involved, but I believe that the officials confer at halftime and often try to even out the calls. "Golly, we flagged the Lions 6 times and the Bears only once." And then in the 3rd quarter, the Bears get 3 penalties called on them. Link to comment

There are scrum tackles, the official runs in, spots the ball, and then we see the replay and they hit forward progress exactly. The other thing is how there's a bang/bang play on the sideline, they immediately signal either a catch or out of bounds, and they're usually right. 2 hours ago, baldryanr said: How quickly everyone forgets. Carey September 29 Share September 29 I never forgot either. At least I can make an excuse for the replacement officials. The ones that have been part of the NFL for a long time don't have that much of an excuse. However, I do side with merylinkid in that it's up to the players to line up right. The players error a lot, not just the officials. It still doesn't change the fact that the officials have blundered in big ways. The biggest issue for me is inconsistency. While it's unpopular to call everything or nothing, it's not cool for one team to benefit from all the calls in a game. Unless the one team getting penalized deserved it Link to comment

Carey October 3 Share October 3 I actually don't mind Swift coverage. However, I can do without "Swift Watch" like it's the celebrity version of TB12 watch or the Manning watch after the latter missed a year (and still avoided IR). As much as the media says, "Don't blame us, we're just the messenger," people blame you because it's unnecessary. (At this point) I will know whether she's there or not. They'll pan to her if she's there. Otherwise, if it doesn't happen, she's not at the game Link to comment
Bastet October 4 Share October 4 I had no rooting interest in tonight's game (last year, I'd have been all in for Atlanta just for hating Tom Brady, but without his rancid ass I don't much care; I liked the people of Atlanta more than the people of Tampa during my respective visits, but whatever), so I wasn't invested in the Falcons victory, but that was something. Inexplicably (maybe something has since been revealed?) standing around and making the tying FG five yards longer than it needed to be was nuts, but it still went to OT, and then a guy who hadn't played much was brought in due to injury and put the game away. That was a fun sequence even for someone who had no personal attachment to the game. Link to comment
Carey October 4 Share October 4 Other than picking Atlanta, I had no rooting interest either. I do admire Tampa, so either team winning would've been okay. I was just rooting for a good game, and (for a TNF broadcast), it delivered. While losing is not cool, especially to a division foe, this was probably an okay loss for the NFC South champions. Road game on a short week, and in overtime to end up 3-2 isn't a bad thing. Just try again next time, plus extra time to rest Link to comment

It doesn't exist & should never ever exist in the NFL. Speaking of losses, hopefully we will see a loss in London tomorrow for a certain crappy green team from New York. Hopefully, Davante Adams will wise up & not subject himself going from one crappy team (Raiders) into another crappy team (Jets). Besides, he wouldn't be much of a help for the Jets because the Jets suck, Aaron Rodgers suck, their coach suck, their owner suck, Fireman Ed suck, & the Jets will find a way to lose even more games with him there. Carey October 5 Share October 5 Fair enough Magog. While not totally clear, the point was that it was not the end of the world. So to the players: do not lose that game. The 55th Super Bowl is ancient history & it's about present time. Link to comment

In the grand scheme of things, I get what you're saying, and you're right! We hate to lose to Atlanta and New Orleans though. Our NFL team lost, and now our college team lost. It just wasn't our week with football. Having said all of that, I realize how unimportant football is compared to the damage the people have experienced from hurricane Helene, so my heart goes out to them. I wonder if any of the college or NFL teams thought to organize a food drive at their stadiums for the relief efforts. Imagine how much canned goods, etc. they could collect if each person just brought one can of food. 3 Link to comment

Calvada October 6 Share October 6 In addition, the Houston Texans donated $1 million, the Glazer family (owners of Bucs) donated $1 million, and the NFL Foundation donated $1 million. A total of $8 million when adding the Tepper and Blank Foundations' donations. Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins individually donated $50,000 each. I haven't heard of any other NFL players who have made donations, but I'm sure there are others. Other sports teams/groups have made donations, from the NBA, NASCAR, the NHL, Augusta National. Several colleges are coordinating donation drives. There's an NC State football player whose mother owns a moving company who has been coordinating donations of things like diapers, batteries, etc. that has resulted in 6+ truckloads of supplies being distributed. 7 Link to comment

Carey October 6 Share October 6 Although I'll disagree with Magog on the Adams to the Jets chance, there's no hoping for a loss because Minnesota will have to try to lose the game. Sure no two Sundays are the same & anything can happen. Other than the defense for New York (to some extent), what does the green actually do that's on the level of elite? Nothing is the answer. The only questions here is the aftermath. For instance, Aaron can have that stat of seeing everything all he wants, but Bradshaw has seen everything too. Doesn't mean he'd make a football team better. So following a pummeling from the Vikings, I'll wonder if Saleh will be on the flight out of London, but then wonder why the destination was moved to Egypt. Meanwhile, New York can settle with Hackett as their coach & tank for Travis Hunter or Ewers. Adams not going to the green, that means possibly Baltimore or Kansas City, but New Orleans would be nice Link to comment
