Galavant Spoilers and Spoiler Discussion

Recommended Posts

Dang, Izzy's ready for war. I hope Galavant and Richard are up to something equally as awesome. Although I can totally see them just getting into ridiculous hijinks while Izzy and others are involved in a bunch of epic stuff, only to later reunite and ask what she's been up to. "Oh, nothing much. just saved the kingdom and brought about world peace. that's all."

Basically like what happened during episode 4 with the pirates. Galavant going to get back to Izzy and the entire kingdom is going to be saved already--just like how he missed out on Izzy and Sid's epic sword fight.

Karen David has made it abundantly clear on her FB that Izzy's going to go through a lot this season and by the time the Battle of the Three Armies rolls around she's ready to kick ass and take names.

ETA -

2nd promo aired last night during the AMAs - https://t.co/qL0G0mjwD7

And, adding to the discussion about Izzy's situation...  There's a snippet of the big production # that is from either the 1st or 2nd episode and you can clearly see that Isabella is out of the pretty, pink prison but her legs are shackled.  Plus, we finally have the video evidence of that medieval twerking, lol.

There are a couple of frames of Gareth grabbing at Madalena's hand/wrist in which she's holding a dagger in the market square.  Oh, and one of Gal peering into a crystal ball.  Searching for Izzy perhaps?  (Okay, that's just wishful thinking from my #Galabella shipper heart, lol.)

Plus, another couple frames of King Richard slapping Gal - I'm almost wondering if Gal falls under the Queen of the Enchanted Forest's spell and the slap is Richard trying to bring Gal out of the spell - that's pure spec based on some of the other frames featuring Gal, Dick, and the QotEF (Kylie Minogue) in both promos - like shirtless Gal and the fact that the QotEF seems to have a harem of men.

Another new promo - 15 seconds but still another new character shows up - a Merlin-esque wizard type, from the looks of it.  Or, I suppose, possibly an "Ever After"-inspired DaVinci type? Hard to say but exciting nonetheless.  I'm a bit perturbed at the lack of Sid & Gareth. We've gotten a good dose of Izzy in this one and yesterday's promo.  Sooooooo excited for season 2!

That wizard guy looks hilarious. Maybe we'll get more Sid and Gareth if they do a 3rd promo.

That was the 3rd promo.  Two 30-second ones over the weekend and the 15-second one yesterday.  I can't imagine we won't get at least one more promo if not two.  It's not like the ABC Publicity department will have much to do during December to promote any of their other shows, what with them all going on an extended winter hiatus.

I am disappointed that there hasn't been a tiny sneak peek at the actual new songs in those trailers....is that Shake it Off song not way too old to be used in these promos anyway?

Well, remember, the promo aired during the AMAs, so using Shake It Off wasn't the worst choice in the world.  But, yes, it would be nice to get a sneak peek of some of the new songs, though I'm not sure they're ready for that yet.  Alan Menken only started the orchestral recording sessions at the beginning of the month.  Maybe we'll get something along those lines the first week of December.

My greatest wish is for them to make fun of the eagles from the Hobbit in this episode. I'll take anything, please.

I've studiously avoided all JRR Tolkein books and movies since I was a kid and someone gave me The Hobbit to read, which I didn't enjoy.  I was a voracious reader but Tolkein's never been of any interest to me.  So, may I ask for you to explain so that I can properly laugh if this particular cultural reference does indeed pop-up in my newest favorite show?  Thanks!

I suppose there's a few good reasons why they couldn't get a lift from the eagles to go destroy the ring, but the excuses don't really cut it for some people.

The eagles swooped in at the last minute to pretty much save the day and end the battle of 5 armies in the Hobbit. They also conveniently swoop in at the last minute and rescue Frodo and Sam from Mt. Doom in LotR (at least in the movies).

So yeah, people side-eye the eagles.

Promo featuring Kylie Minogue. Is that part of a new song I hear?

Thanks for the eagles explanation!  We'll definitely have to keep an eye out for them since the name of the battle definitely mirrors that of LOTR.  :-)

Sounds like a new song.  I hope it comes off better in the episode than it does in the promo.

I'll save my costume ravings for the costume thread, and for when this pic isn't considered spoilerish.

For now I'll just say: feast your eyes on some more costume porn!

I've been drooling over Izzy and Maddie's new togs for S2 for months now.  I'm so excited.  The costume porn is one of the best things about this show, even if it's a mishmash of historical eras and regions.

Which makes it no different from Once Upon a Time -- only it seems to work a lot better here than it does there, for some reason.

Honestly, I don't mind the mish-mash of historical eras in costuming on OUAT either.  I think that it places both shows firmly in the fantasy genre and that's a good choice from the production crews of both shows because it establishes, for the audience, the firm intention that they are playing with and/or embellishing familiar stories or tropes.  We wouldn't have the same expectations of either show if we were burdened with period costuming a la The Tudors or Downton Abbey.

The Road to Galavant tumblr page has the synopses for Episodes 1 & 2 up!

http://roadtogalavant.tumblr.com/post/135212852549/2x012x02-episode-synopsis-a-new-season-aka

2x01/2x02 Episode Synopsis’

“A New Season… aka Suck It Cancellation Bear” (8:00-8:30 p.m. EST) – Bad advice results in Galavant and the crew being shipwrecked, and they end up traveling by foot in order to get back to Richard’s kingdom. Later, Galavant and King Richard find themselves at The Enchanted Forest Pub in West Hollow-wood where they are forced into working there by the owner who sees Galavant in a different light. Meanwhile in Valencia, Madalena rules as Queen, and Gareth demands his due when he is announced as King, with Sid as his assistant.  Elsewhere in Hortensia, Isabella is imprisoned in her jewel box by her 12-year-old cousin as her parents prepare for their wedding.

“World’s Best Kiss” (8:30-9:01 p.m. EST) – Galavant and Richard see a fortune teller who is able to connect Galavant to Isabella using a crystal ball.  Isabella receives Galavant’s “call” as she is plotting her escape from Hortensia. Unfortunately, it’s a “bad connection,” and Isabella hears only every other word. She is devastated by the call, but Galavant believes it went well. He promises to return to her as soon as he drops Richard off at his castle. The only problem is that Richard’s castle seems to have disappeared.

Discuss!

A bad crystal ball connection? Lol, poor Izzy. I wonder if she'll smack Gal first thing when they reunite for whatever reason. I wonder if this is what spawns the changes Izzy apparently goes through this season. It was mentioned that she's gonna go through a lot (by the sounds of it).

Plot descriptions for 3 & 4 are out!  https://www.facebook.com/events/439334396262499/

“Aw, Hell, the King” – Desperate to raise an army and storm Hortensia, Galavant and King Richard return to his former castle to find the village thriving, now that they’ve found democracy. The discovery leads Richard to have an identity crisis now that his people don’t need him. Galavant uses a town hall meeting to recruit fighters from the village, but the volunteers are in short supply. In Hortensia, an evil wedding planner named Wormwood poisons Isabella’s mind with an enchanted tiara, intent on making her help him take over the kingdom. Meanwhile, Madalena threatens Sid with death unless he helps Gareth overcome his guilt-ridden nightmares about betraying Richard.

Guest stars Genevieve Allenbury as Queen of Valencia, Ben Presley as Jester, Stanley Townsend as King of Valencia, Clare Foster as Roberta, Muzz Khan as Barry, Robert Lindsay as Wormwood, Matt Lucas as Peasant John, Chris Bearne as Old Man Edward, Elaine Caulfield as Peasant Woman, Stuart Ramsay as Baker and Phil Zimmerman as Beggar.

----
“Bewitched, Bothered and Belittled” — While continuing their quest to gather an army, King Richard discovers that he has a connection to Roberta, the beautiful warrior who volunteered to help. Galavant plays matchmaker. Madalena is invited to the Basikobitcz party – the “it” girls of the kingdom – and can’t wait to be accepted into their group. The party is not what she expected, and, when she returns home, she discovers that she has feelings and does not like her new emotion. Gareth cheers her up with a present while Chef tries to convince Gwen that their lives are better in Hortencia. Under Wormwood’s spell, Isabella is in full wedding-planning mode.

Guest stars are Darren Evans as Chef, Ben Presley as Jester, Kemaal Deen-Ellis as Prince Harry, Clare Foster as Roberta, Sophie McShera as Gwynne, Robert Lindsay as Wormwood, Arybella Eddy as Young Catherine Falconberry, Darren Jelley as Mercenary Leader, Sarah Hadland as Catherine, Daniel Lander as Waiter, Sally Phillips as Ivana, Oliver Powell as Maitre d’ and James Bowman as Queen’s Servant.

All I have to say is I KNEW Wormwood was plotting to take over the throne of Hortensia!

Dammit, I am not looking forward to Isabella being brainwashed. I wanted her to bust out and kick some butt!

Am intrigued by Galavant being matchmaker for Richard. That should be good for some laughs.

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about her being trapped under an enchanted tiara.  I read a very spoilery review of the first 7 eps of S2 today that makes me even less happy about the amount of Galabella (or rather lack of) that we're getting, at least through the first 3.5 weeks.  On the one hand, I realize she's a medieval feminist and shouldn't NEED Galavant to come and rescue her, but I'm a hardcore Galabella shipper and I want them together, dammit!  On the other hand, Karen David & Kat Likkel, as well as the rest of the actors involved in the Hortensia plot, have pretty much raved about it, and the reviewer said that Karen does a great job as the only major cast member in carrying the Hortensia plot.  I'm torn, scared at the moment, at what is coming, but I'll probably end up loving it by the time we've seen the whole of S2.

I suspect that Galavant is just trying, at least at first, to shed Richard so he can set off for Hortensia ASAP, lol.  Richard, though, is apparently that obnoxious, younger sibling, that wants to tag along everywhere with the cool, teenaged, older sibling.

Link to comment

Thank you! Perhaps Isabella won't be under the tiara's control for long...

Well, at least episodes 3-4.  We'll see what next week's synopses for 5 & 6 say.  It does sound, from that spoilery article, that she'll have figured things out and will be on her way towards freedom, by 7, so I'm guessing that something happens in 6 to break the enchantment.

Any guess as to which cast member connects with Galavant & Richard mid-way through the season? If I had to guess, I'd go with Sid but the Jester might be a possibility.

It's Sid!!!!!  I was watching, for the umpteenth million time, the new "Fight" promo (which is probably the BEST promo for the show this season, I think), and at the 11-12 second mark, you see a group of three riders heading off across a meadow.  Pause it and take a close look at the riders - Richard is in the middle and the new character of Bobbi (Richard's love interest, played by Claire Foster) is obviously the rider on the right.  The rider on the left is a little harder to identify unless you look closely at the hair.  That's immediately followed by a brief flash of Sid, side profile, leading a line into battle. Comparing the side shot of Sid with the rider on the left, I'm pretty confident that Sid somehow escapes from Valencia and meets up with Galavant & Richard mid-season.

Thoughts?

'Giants vs. Dwarves' — Galavant is fed up with Richard after he trades the Jewel of Valencia for a dragon and travels to find the giants on his own. They are not at all what he expected but are willing to help under one condition – he must help them defeat the dwarves. When they met face to face, Galavant is in for not one but two surprises. Roberta steps in to help bring both men to their senses and attempts to resolve the issues between the dwarves and giants. Gareth tells Sid about his feelings for Madalena. Sid warns Gareth against confessing his feelings, but he is determined, which ultimately leads to a dangerous situation for one of the men. Wormwood sends Isabella to Princess Jubilee's palace to hand deliver her invitation to her wedding. Things don't go as planned especially when the crown on Isabella's head is accidentally broken, on 'Galavant' airing SUNDAY, JANUARY 17(8:00–8:30 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.

Madalena tries to make Gareth's birthday the best day ever, but his idea of a fun time is getting into a bar fight. Isabella returns to Hortensia and banishes Wormwood. Sid, now a wanted man in Valencia, flees to the Forest of Coincidence where he meets Wormwood. Their chance encounter sparks an evil plan. Sid stabs someone with his sword, on 'Galavant' airing SUNDAY, JANUARY 17 (8:30–9:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.

Guy, Aaron Turner as Valencian Peasant 3 and Joanna Wake as Old Lady.

I'm already looking VERY forward to Episode 5 - not only does it, obviously (at least to me) have the WSS Jets vs. Sharks homage in it but it also has that darned enchanted tiara of Isabella's broken and that's a great thing.  I'm also intrigued by what causes Sid to become a wanted man in Valencia.  It definitely appears that this is going to be one of the key episodes of the entire season.

I also notice that Galavant's dad isn't being played by Anthony Head this season.  I wonder what prompted the change of actor.

Maybe the combined awesomeness of Tony Head and Timothy Omundsen's hair is just too much for one single show? Seriously, though, it's a bummer he won't be back. Can't wait for Sunday!

I'm guessing it's tied to the episode 204 description

I'm thinking the "it" girls are mean/cruel to Madalena and Gareth tries to cheer her up by cutting off their ears

“Love and Death” – Richard, Roberta and Sid rush the fatally wounded Galavant to a healer named Neo of Sporin, who has a magic potion that could save Galavant’s life. While waiting for Galavant to recover, Roberta admits she likes Richard and they almost share a tender moment. Later, Neo produces an army for Galavant… but the soldiers turn out to be zombies. Meanwhile, Madalena finally shares her true feelings with Gareth, who is shocked. As they march on Hortensia, the unlikely duo make a decision about their relationship, on “Galavant,” airing SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 (8:00–8:30 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.  “Love and Death” was written by Robin Shorr and directed by Paul Murphy. Guest stars are Ben Presley as Jester, Stanley Townsend as King of Valencia, Kemaal Deen-Ellis as Prince Harry, Clare Foster as Roberta, Muzz Khan as Barry, Robert Lindsay as Wormwood, Eddie Marsan as Death, Reece Shearsmith as Neo.

“Do the D’Dew” – As the battle between Hortensia and Valencia begins, Isabella and the Jester are ready to surrender; but when Isabella hears Madalena’s demands, she can’t accept them. She returns to the Hortensia camp and rallies the troops to fight with whatever they can find. Against Gareth’s wishes, a frightened Madalena turns to Wormwood who teaches her the evil magic of the "Dark Dark Evil Way" or D’DEW. Meanwhile, Richard and Roberta finally take their relationship to the next level, but as they’re about to leave for battle, Roberta makes an important decision. Galavant finally figures out how to motivate his Zombie army while Sid runs away, on “Galavant,” airing SUNDAY, JANUARY 24 (8:30–9:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.  “Do the D’Dew” was written by Jeremy Hall and directed by Chris Koch. Guest stars are Ben Presley as Jester, Clare Foster as Roberta, Muzz Khan as Barry and Robert Lindsay as Wormwood.

Dying at the name of the healer! So great! I hope, if the show gets another season, that the writing staff can come up with another hilarious common medication to use as a name for a wizard/healer. One of the best running gags of the series.

Its going to annoy the shit out of the OUAT board how often I'll be using doing the D'DEW once Galavant is finished and OUAT is back.

I am more excited than is normal to find out exactly how Galavant will motivate his Zombie army.

And the episode descriptions for 209/210 are out this afternoon...  https://www.facebook.com/events/1694750864072488/

“Battle of the Three Armies”– In their war against Valencia, all hope seems lost for Isabella and the people of Hortensia until Galavant arrives with his zombie army. Meanwhile, Gareth abandons Madalena after he realizes that she betrayed him and is learning (and using) the Dark Dark Evil Way on “Galavant,” airing SUNDAY, JANUARY 31 (8:00–8:30 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.  “Battle of the Three Armies”was written by Rick Wiener & Kenny Schwartz and directed by John Fortenberry. Guest stars are Genevieve Allenbury as Queen of Valencia, Darren Evans as Chef, Ben Presley as Jester, Stanley Townsend as King of Valencia, Robert Lindsay as Wormwood and Sophie McShera as Gwynne.

“The One True King (To Unite Them All)” – Under Madalena and Wormwood’s spell, the zombie army revolt against Galavant and company, until Sid arrives with an unlikely army of his own. Galavant, Gareth, and Sid’s army battle the Zombies while Isabella fights Madalena. Meanwhile, Richard goes after Wormwood, who attacks Tad Cooper, which provokes Richard to perform a (nearly) heroic act. Elsewhere, Gareth tries to reason with Madalena, but she is driven to learn how to use her newly acquired dark magic. At the end of the day, who will get their happily ever after on “Galavant”? The episode airs SUNDAY, JANUARY 31 (8:30–9:00 p.m. EST) on the ABC Television Network.  “The One True King (To Unite Them All)”was written by Rick Wiener & Kenny Schwartz and directed by John Fortenberry. Guest stars are Genevieve Allenbury as Queen of Valencia, Darren Evans as Chef, Ben Presley as Jester, Stanley Townsend as King of Valencia, Clare Foster as Roberta, Muzz Khan as Barry, Robert Lindsay as Wormwood, Sophie McShera as Gwynne, Weird Al Yankovic as Monk, David Newman as Footman, Alfie Simmons as Young Richard, Sonnyboy Skelton as Young Gareth and Jacob William as Steward.

Well, this is going to be interesting...  There was a twitpic last week that had Galabella in what some fans thought could be a wedding scene but I dismissed it as a fantasy scene (apparently we're supposed to get at least one more of those either next week or the week after).  Now, I'm starting to wonder if maybe it those fans are right since Weird Al is back as Monk in the season finale.

Wow. So much for Madareth. We all knew it wouldn't last but still.

This had better not end on a cliffhanger again. If it does, I will be PISSED.

I've heard that they aren't leaving so much up in the air with cliffhangers as they did last season.  I'm guessing that Garalena/Madareth will be one of those potential storylines to explore/reunite if we get a S3.

Someone on Twitter suggested that the Monk and his brothers could be the unexpected army Sid brings in to save the day.  That seems far more likely than a possible wedding.  And, while I'd love a wedding between Galabella, I'd be fine if they just wind up reunited.

So much gold in those episode descriptions!

Neo of Sporin!!! Oh my gosh, can't stop laughing!!

Wormwood teaches Madalena dark magic? Sounds a lot like how Rumple taught Regina magic in ouat! D'DEW???! Yes, I will also be using that in the Ouat board!

So many Lotr/hobbit references too! Besides the title, A zombie army sound an awful lot like the ghost army in Return of the King. I always considered that cheating by the good guys. Never really liked that part of the movie.

Also, Sid shows up at the last minute with an army of his own?????

"Look to my coming on the first light of the fifth day, at dawn look to the east." -- Gandalf, Lotr

Is Sid going to be Gandalf????
