Kromm August 13, 2015 Share August 13, 2015 Yay. I know Capaldi and Coleman both have their detractors, but that happens with every cast, every combo. I'm on board. 4 Link to comment

Kalliste August 13, 2015 Share August 13, 2015 "Same old, same old.. just the Doctor and Clara Oswald in the tardis!" ... great, because "same old" was just super last season. To quote another traveller of space: "Wubba lubba dub dub" - Rick Sanchez, Rick and Morty (a show that is doing decent sci fi this season) Trans: "I am in great pain, please help me" /snark 1 Link to comment
truther August 13, 2015 Share August 13, 2015 Color me underwhelmed. Sorry. It's the exact same trailer they use for every Hollywood blockbuster and since Clara's in it it's the exact same flawed show I grew to dread watching last season. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope everyone else enjoys Season 9, but personally I'm waiting to hear good reviews from the actual episodes before getting excited about any of this. 1 Link to comment
Dave in Chicago August 13, 2015 Share August 13, 2015 I don't have anything against Clara specifically, but I think it's contrary to the spirit of the show to have any one companion hang around for too long. Another full series seems to be pushing it - I want change, reinvention, surprises. 1 Link to comment

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't companions like Sarah Jane, Jamie, and Tegan hang out for quite a bit longer than that (either in terms of years or episodes)? 1 Link to comment
Dave in Chicago August 13, 2015 Share August 13, 2015 (edited) It's not a record, no, but: 1/2 of season 7 + premiere and XMas; anniversary & Smith's farewell; season 8 + Xmas; presumably all of series 9. Not the most, but a lot.Maybe my larger concern is that they've already written such complicated arcs for her (some of which didn't make sense, but nevermind), as well as multiple ideal exit points - I just don't see much else to be done with her at this point. Hope they prove me wrong. Edited August 13, 2015 by DS1077 Link to comment
Kalliste August 14, 2015 Share August 14, 2015 Also in earlier times The Doctor had less control of the Tardis so in theory it was harder to get rid of companions. He has Clara's trips down to the second so we should be easily able to say goodbye to her Link to comment

The problem is that she's had numerous Big Episodes, plus story arcs for two seasons written around her to the detriment of the Doctor himself, and she still hasn't made a positive impression on at least 99% of viewers. She's an even bigger failure than pre-Big-Finish Six was. Link to comment

She's an even bigger failure than pre-Big-Finish Six was. Agree to disagree, she's wonderful. I loved her story arc this season. While not as great a reveal as the Impossible Girl in Matt Smith's time, I thought she was great in Flatline, Time Heist, Listen (one of my favorites) and The Caretaker. As far as taking away from the Doctor, I think she adds a great deal, and Donna, who was NOT one of my favorite companions, also became Time Lordyish and had to lose her memories because of it. Clara has had many big episodes, but all the companions have. I'm in!!! For the season!!! 3 Link to comment

The vast majority of viewers get on with Clara just fine. 1 Link to comment

EC Amber August 20, 2015 Share August 20, 2015 (edited) Missy! Yay!I love me some Daleks. I love me some confused Daleks even more. Truth: Ever since I was young I had a thing for older men (and I'm now old enough to have children could legally drink). Capaldi Does. It. For. Me. Putting him in glasses and pulling a rock star? Icing. And yes, I am happy to see Clara. I've been enjoying their evolution since the regen into 12 and I'm curious to see where it goes now that Pink is gone and not a distraction. But mostly I'm hoping we get some answers to questions from season 8. Edited August 20, 2015 by EC Amber 2 Link to comment
