Interesting! They're going back to featuring patrol as well as Intel? I approve, although I expect her to be moved upstairs within a couple of episodes. I still miss the patrol aspect of the show.

‘Chicago P.D.’ Adds Shawn Hatosy — Scoop on His Character & Relationship With Voight

Quote

Hatosy has been cast in a recurring role in Chicago P.D. Season 12, beginning with the September 25 premiere. He’ll be playing Deputy Chief Charlie Reid—and this should be particularly interesting for Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe). His “exciting” character leads to a “new dynamic for the unit,” executive producer Gwen Sigan tells TV Insider. “I think he sees a lot of himself in Voight and identifies quite a bit with Voight and Voight’s philosophy as a police officer, and they have a really interesting relationship that will evolve as the season goes on.”

After Upton’s departure, Intelligence will bring patrol officer Kiana Cook (played by Warrior Nun’s Toya Turner) into the fold in Season 12. Of the newcomer, showrunner Gwen Sigan says we’ll meet her on an active case. “She has been through a lot within the police department and is looking for a place where she fits in… She’s going to find a family within the 21st,” the EP teases. We’ll also see Burgess and Ruzek’s bond “grow even closer” following their engagement last season, while Voight will contemplate his mortality after surviving that brutal basement torture. The harrowing experience forces him to “be a little bit introspective,” per Sigan, and realize he doesn’t have much time. Additionally, viewers can expect “a fast-paced Ruzek episode that is just an action ride,” as well as an impactful Torres installment which showcases him in a way we haven’t seen before.

BONUS SPOILER!: Atwater is getting a love interest! We hear that it’s someone who can “see him” and quickly understands who he is. “There’s a nice relationship that forms because of that,” Sigan notes. “There’s this more accepting openness to it.”

RETURN DATE: Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 10/9c (NBC)

Q: Will we be seeing Makayla (Kim/Adam’s daughter) on Chicago P.D. anytime soon?

Quote

“Yes, Makayla will be returning this season,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells Inside Line. “We’ll get to see a bit of her in a great Burgess episode coming up in Episode 6, and will also get further looks into the Burgess/Ruzek home life later this season.”

‘Chicago P.D.’ Boss Gives Update on Burzek Wedding Planning

Quote

"The wedding is “definitely going to happen. In our minds, it’s just been fun to sort of imagine the planning process and what the heck they’re talking about at home that we don’t get to see. So we do have some snippets of that coming up in a future episode that you’ll get in their heads about what they’re thinking about the wedding and how they’re planning it and how it’s all going.”

Q: Any scoop on Chicago P.D.‘s Burgess?

Quote

In fact, next Wednesday, Nov. 6, “marks her first big episode of the season, and we see her face a big challenge. It’s a fun ride for her,” showrunner Gwen Sigan previews. “It’s a lot about sort of ‘inside baseball’ policing. It presents good ethical dilemmas for her throughout the episode, and we get to see her be really resilient and to come out the other end of it a bit changed, which is always fun.”

Q: The serial killer last season on Chicago P.D. was really good. Are we going to have a big bad for multiple episodes this season?

Quote

“There are a couple, yes. I can tell you that one sort of big bad we sort of introduce a little bit in Episode 6 (airing Nov. 6) and then Episode 7 you get to know more,” showrunner Gwen Sigan reveals. “And then we’ve got another, I would say one of the darkest characters we’ve done is introduced in episode 10, which will also be for a few episodes of the season as well. So, yeah, we’ve got some really twisted big bads coming up.”

Seriously? They’ve come up with some “big bads” that are worse than a serial killer who staples people‘s eyes open? Did any of the writers used to work for Criminal Minds?

Q: Will we see more of ASA Chapman on Chicago P.D.?

Quote

“She will be back,” showrunner Gwen Sigan tells TVLine. “By the time she’s back, [Voight] is going to be very happy to see her, at least as far as needing that camaraderie that they have and that friendship and that peer. He’ll be sort of longing to have that sounding board back.” Speaking of….

Q: Any scoop about Voight’s romance on Chicago P.D.?

Quote

Coming off Chapman’s confession that she has feelings for Voight, “I think he has no idea how he feels about her,” showrunner Gwen Sigan says. “It was a shock to him, and I think it’s churning in his mind for quite some time. These next few episodes, it’s in the background of his mind. It’s something that I think he is avoiding and then thinking about it and not knowing what to do with, but the reality is in his subconscious and it’s setting the scene for this idea of, is there more? Is his life already made up or does he have more opportunities [like] Olinsky referred to at the end of last season that there is more. So for him, it’s percolating in his head.”

Chicago P.D.’s Benjamin Levy Aguilar Previews Torres’ ‘Worst-Case Scenario’ in ‘Very Tense’ Fall Finale

TVLINE | Do you think he still has feelings for Gloria?

Quote

Absolutely. I think there’s definitely love there. If not, he wouldn’t care, and it wouldn’t affect him. He just believed she could be different. He believed that she could find a new life. But it’s very interesting how we tend to go back to what we know, and he can’t wrap his head around it, but love is there. It’s just one of those loves that it’s past the point of no return. Like, the love has evolved. It’s no longer, like, a love thing. [It’s] not a healthy love anymore. It’s impossible.
