Can someone tell me what Brett Gelman's character is? All I ever see him doing is lurking around bothering Chair.

According to wikipedia, he's an outwoodsman, which I take to mean some sort of groundskeeper. I think the point is that he has very low status, but also the freedom to come and go as he pleases, unlike the heavily supervised house servants.

As for his relationship to Chair, in the 2nd episode he expositions that he was once a successful music hall performer, but she, in her former life as a high class prostitute, took him for everything he had, and he took his current position out of desperation (before she arrived). So, they have a long, complicated history.

Thanks!  That explains why he's always so pissed at her.

Was that a real baby Natasha was yelling at?  I was kind of hoping they CGI'd it in.

Yes, this might have been my favorite episode so far.  Lillian and Victor actually teaming up to win the pageant, was actually a pretty good idea.  They obviously barely seem to stand each other, but I liked how each of them have their own motivation.  And, of course, even though Lillian won, she didn't fully, since she got a bucket of "feces" dumped on her Carrie-style, and lost out on that cover shot.  Ha!

Lillian chewing out the baby was so wrong, but hilarious.  I do wonder how they shot that because while I obviously don't think the baby understood a damn word of it, I would think having some lady up close and snarling at him/her, could freak the poor baby out.

The stuff involving Chair was brief, but a fun B-story.  Christina Hendricks seems to be having a blast in this role.  And Peepers would freak out over a little drop spilling on the tablecloth.

Beatrice and Frederick continue to amuse me more then they probably should.
