I've seen comments from someone who said that it made them angry. I haven't watched it yet, so I'm not in the episode thread.

It's a bad look for Pizzolatto.

I don't think he was known for anything until TD season 1.

There was great anticipation for more seasons but later seasons didn't live up to the first and one common observation was that maybe a lot of the brilliance of season 1 had to do with Cary  Fukunaga, the director, than Pizzolatto.

Now he's sniping when season 4, on which he didn't have any creative input, gets a little attention?

Curious if HBO took him off TD permanently.

He's had a couple of other projects since TD but not clear if he's EP or show runner or just a writer.

Specifically Issa Lopez will be show runner again.

So Nic Pizzolatto can bite it.

I don't know what the deal is with Nic. He invited people to criticize the show on his Instagram then seems to pretend he's not criticizing the show or creating controversy. Was he tired of past criticism and just decided to let people yell at him about the new season? It's just weird

Jodie Foster Says ‘True Detective’ Will Remain an Anthology in Season 5 and She’s Not Returning: ‘It’s One and Done’

Quote

It sounds like Lopez will be sticking with the anthology route for “True Detective” Season 5. Foster told Variety’s Marc Malkin that her time on the show was “one and done” and “it’s an anthology.” Asked if she’s coming back, Foster said point blank: “No.”

True Detective Boss Confirms Season 5 Will Have ‘Different Characters’ and ‘a Different Setting’ Than Night Country

Quote

The upcoming fifth season of HBO‘s crime drama anthology will feature “different characters,” a “different setting” and a “different story” than Season 4’s Night Country, showrunner Issa López confirms.

López adds that she is currently “in the writing” process on Season 5, “and it’s a blast… It’s a completely different adventure.” She won’t reveal much about where the new season is headed yet, but she doesn’t rule out a connection to Season 4 in some form: “I think you will be pleasantly surprised.”

Hmm, NY sounds interesting, would be the first urban setting for TD.

But Jamaica Bay is a wildlife refuge, bordering on the water and JFK Airport.

So it could still be relatively isolated locale and maybe involve immigrant communities who believe in voodoo or superstition, which would be in keeping with other TD seasons.

So you could have some more baroque crime scenes, with corpses dressed up or posed elaborately, as you've had with this series from the beginning.

Rather see a new season of Mindhunter.  The cases based on real-life serial murders are fascinating without the religious/occult overtones that shows like TD try to inject.
