Cutting It In The ATL - General Discussion

I found it interesting that Dedra kept saying she felt blindsided at the brunch about having to discuss business, when every message left by 50 dolla weave lady said she had a business proposition to discuss. Trying to start drama for no reason.

So funny how everyone brought extra people even though the lady said no plus ones. As Dwight would say, how dreadful!

Can't really stand Beauti. Is that her real name?? She's doing entirely too much.

I do love the owner from Congo. Love her hair, her style, her personality. She cracked me up when she stuck her pinky finger, instead of her middle one, up at the car behind them.

That must be the delicate way to flip someone off.

The 50 dollar weave lady cracked me up for some reason. I think the concept of getting a weave for that price is probably why. As one of them put it, there's weaves and then there's Kmart hair.

I'm not sure about the 50.00 weave. I'm not sure if it's for the hair. I order my hair from China (where most of the hair comes from),, I would gladly pay 50.00 to have my hair sewn in..

Wasn't paying that much attention. Only caught the past 2 episodes because they came on after "Braxton's Family Values."

So far, I like the Congo lady best. She's pretty, has outrageous style & is about business. I applauded her standing up for her charity & I shed a few tears when the one lady shared her story of abuse.

I don't know anything about weave, but I thought the spy girl's hair looked good. That might just be sheer ignorance on my part, though. However, I do know that the tracks are supposed to be sewn in tight, so not sure what was going on there.

I really love Mushiya and think her charity is brilliant and amazing.

"I know she has a dick resting face...." lol!!! Still chuckling about that.

Beauty's son was kinda cute. How old was he again? :-D

It sucks that Maja (?) Is having so many issues with her business. I have a feeling that this is stemming from her always reminding people that she made "1.4 million last year." If it is indeed an inside job, they probably feel like she can afford to be robbed.

seeing her price chart, i'm thinking very few get out with only paying 50.00 and no the hair is not included so if one wants to buy Kmart hair and pay 50.00 for it, they can.

You are probably getting the same hair sold at "hair weave sold store" that the other chicks are getting, they then jack up the prices and sewn in  .

it makes those who would rather call a "weave" , a "extension" (per Beauti) feel they are getting high-end when they are getting the same thing and paying high-end.

Wait a sec. There's a difference between weaves and extensions??

All weaves are a type of hair extensions, but all extensions are not weaves. its about the process, weaves are traditionally  sewn on to braided hair and can last for 6 to 8 weeks, extensions are hair being attached to the natural hair by adhesive,( which can be washed out, but is bad for the natural hair ),clip-ons and tape extensions are used to add fullness, length and is  usually short time, its a different look of your natural hair. Weaves do not add to the look of your natural hair because the natural hair is braided and hidden, and is meant to give a different look, color, style, without chemical.  So when Beauti made the comment a "classy lady would say extension and a ghetto lady would say weave". Is in her mind, one is better than  the other, I suspect beauti is wearing a weave, I'm not seeing any of her natural hair. If  a classy lady is getting a weave, she is having her natural hair braided and the hair is sewn onto the braid. If a ghetto lady is getting extensions , she is having synthetic or human  hair applied strand by strand, to give her natural hair a longer, fuller look, or her extensions are clipped or taped onto her natural hair.

Weaves AND extensions are universal.

Thanks for the explanation and clarification. I just lumped all of those different types you mentioned into "weaves". But it's like a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. I got ya.

I was really bothered by Beautii's disgust at the the thought of wearing natural hair. Its like girl, its just the hair that grew out of your head. Jus because Mushiya(sp?) wears  her hair in that style, doesn't mean you have to do the same. I wish more people understood that the word "natural" does not mean "looks like big dookie braids or dread locks". Natural hair is just hair! Without chemicals or alterations! If I didn't straighten my hair with relaxers or heat, it would most likely have a really great curl pattern, but I LIKE wearing my hair straight, mainly because Im lazy and it would take a lot of work to achieve the stye I prefer without using relaxers. But if I had the funds and the time (Pregnant with my first child and starting with a business with my husband) Id give it a fair shot. Relaxers are really not good for your hair, just convenient.

Dedra is a foul, foul woman.  Since when is being African and insult?  And why would she think it would be okay to say those things.  She couldn't even take responsibility for any of her part in the melee.  And using "I was standing up for my employee" as her defense was such a crop of bullshit.  Beautii didn't bring up the money again, you did.  And then you threw money in her face and were surprised she had a negative response to that?  Bitch please.

I thought it was nice that both LeKeisha(??) and Beautii were able to say what they had to say to each other without getting out of control.  I'm not sure where Dedra was trying to go with her "I love you all" spiel.  She was being so fake, and she lost her shit when she got some very valid criticism.  She has some serious issues.

I'm already tired of Maja and her coins.  If she's so much better than everyone else, then why is she working so hard to go into business with the other ladies?  And she needs to watch herself talking shit about people from Miami!!

I wear my hair natural but it's not like Mushiya doesn't wear fake hair. Her natural hair is a short 'fro (and she looks great with it) but she also wears wigs or weaves a lot of the time, so she's a little more holier than thou than I'd like. In general she's very extra. It did bug me that Beautii was like "Ew, natural" though.

Maja's affectations remind me of RHoA Sheree, which isn't a compliment.

I'm surprised there isn't more chatter about this show. It's my new guilty pleasure.

I adore the way Mushiya comports herself. She is feisty, ballsy, sassy, and confident. She doesn't let anyone railroad her, and she knows her worth. I always think she has a regal bearing, as she walks with her head up high. When she told Maja about Beautii's spy tricks, she knew it would cause palaver, but she followed her heart and what she thought was right. She didn't back down, and even though Beautii was in her feelings, she held firm. She has no problem keeping it real (no passive-aggressiveness here! ), and when Beauti or any of the other girls are being ridiculous, she just laughs and calls them out. I applaud her business sense and for cornering the natural hair market. I'm natural, and those styles make me wish I lived in ATL so I could visit her salon. She runs it like her mini-kingdom, and even though she is a tough boss, she is fair. Adore her relationship with her husband, I think she's the only one that is in a happy relationship. She's not modest (by any means), so I see how her confidence can be grating to those less secure.

The shade, the shade, the shade! These girls are all shady, and have so many issues, from Queen Maja all the way down. At this point I think everyone has talked smack about everyone else, no one is immune. I still don't understand why they have t been able to place an order of Pretty Hair this whole time. ..it's just plain ol crazy shenanigans every time they get together.

Maja is medicating her loneliness and violation of the robberies with pills and wine. She needs to stop bragging about her company's success or she will always be a target for theft. 2 robberies in 3 weeks? She needs to upgrade her security system, and perhaps even hire a Risk Management Specialist to help her streamline her business practices so employees don't have any knowledge of access to her sales and volumes. She should not be so trusting, it's obv to us that the thefts are an inside job. Did she even background check her employees? Does she have an HR person? For a successful entrepreneur with a healthy business portfolio and acumen, she really needs to step her business management game up.

Beautii (Patricia) is so insecure and immature, even for someone that is 40+ with a grown son. She hasn't matured at all and it seems like her maturity stopped when she got pregnant at 16. The reason she gets affronted and hurt by every single thing is that she is still that little girl on the inside seeking society's approval. She knows she was wrong for Spy-gate, so why is she then deflecting her actions on Mushiya spilling the beans? Childish, and she has no one around her to tell her the truth, it seems Ike everyone tells her what she wants to hear, hence the complete lack of self-awareness. She acted up everywhere they went, even at her own party! Shameless!

LaKenya has the potential to be a decent character (I first thought she showed maturity when wanting to nip issues in the bud and deal directly with affected parties). But now a few episodes in, she is so wishy washy and doesn't have her own voice, it just depends on who she is with at the time to get her mood and actions. I know she is trying to establish her own salon, but ass-kissing is not that way to do it. She needs to work and save up her money instead of allowing herself to be out in the middle of situations that have nothing to do with her.

I first sided with Dedra in the first few minutes of episode 1, but each episode makes me dislike her more and more. She is truly an unhappy, horrible person. She was so rude especially at Bugaloo. She feels so entitled and her attitude has been bitchy from day one. I get that her business is not as successful, but it's probably because of her enqergy and vibe. I wouldn't want that negative energy around my hair. Probably why her salon is always empty except for the 1 client she has. A salon with such a narrow niche....short hair only? That's another reason, her business model is awful. It's obvious that her anger arises from her being perceived as less-than, which will always happen until she is successful in her own right, and when she stops acting like a dog in public. She likes to push people's buttons, and it gives her some sort of twisted masochistic glee. Her caustic comments are meant to incite a reaction from her victims, and usually Beautii always falls for it. She can't figure Mushiya out...lol! And Maja just doesn't engage.

Her comments about Mushiya just reek with jealousy, envy, and haterade. I'm surprised that M even gave her the time of day by showing up at the dessert shop. Dedra said she was African (fool probably doesn't even realize Africa is a continent, not a country), illegal immigrant, looking for a Green Card, baby-popping, Mufasa. To me it just seems that Dedra wants to have what Mushiya does, (a successful marriage, thriving business, banging body, awesome charity, respect from her employees, etc.) and can't fathom how the "African" came to her country and is dominating. I love when M didn't take any of her baits at the dessert shop...comments about her dress (false flattery), her lipstick (create insecurity by pointing out a flaw), attempted worse non-apology ever. When Mushiya didn't succumb to her manipulations, then Dedra went into attack mode. Why jab about M having kids----???, why is that a thing?

Is anyone watching? What do you think of the episodes so far? Would appreciate some snarking!

I'm catching up on DVR stuff as I have been travelling. But I wholeheartedly agree with you about all the shade. These women have it DOWN pat!!

Agree with everything about Maja. Especially her lack of security or properly checking out her employees. First time it happened, I'd have everyone there interviewed by police, thoroughly. There would be no second time. I'd have a security system that only I had the code for, and make sure I was first in, last out each day. That sends a message to the employees that you're watching them, and the alarm will sound if they try any funny stuff.

I wouldn't want to be around Dedra. She's a nasty, nasty person. However, I appreciate that her nastiness is upfront. Maja, on the other hand, rubs me the wrong fucking way. She has this underlying hatefulness, that she's tries to cloak under her business woman veneer. Every comment she makes about the girls in her talking heads, and to other people behind their back, is mean, rude, and spiteful. And it bugs me that she always needs to bring up how much her things cost or how much she makes. We don't care! The decent person in me tried to feel bad about that cake being brought out at her party (because that was a fucking bitchy move on Dedra's part), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy watching her reaction to it and then her subsequent rationalization about why she has a mug shot. By the way, did anyone else make sense of that story?? Cause I sure as hell didn't.

Dedra sure is a fan of revisionist history, isn't she? She surely left out all the awful stuff she did/said when recounting her interactions with the other ladies. I also can't stand Lakenya. When she's with Dedra, she bad mouths the other ladies, vice versa. She's the worst kind of friend.

Beautii's son is so adorable. I love that as a high school junior/senior, he wants to spend more time with his mom.

Was the scene with Maja and the women at the adoption place for real? "How do I know what I'm getting? Is it one of those babies from Russia that grow up to be serial killers because they never been hugged? Can I bring it back if it's not right?"

WTF? What about your criminal past, background checks will find that stuff, girl.

Even if it was scripted, that's pretty shady toward all the people out there who are trying to adopt.

That was really a thing though. There was a very small trend of people getting babies from Russia and something was "wrong" with them, and the adopted parents would find ways of getting rid of them.  I can't remember if they just dropped them off at Safe Haven place or something, but Maja isn't making it up.

She did sound dumb as hell bringing it up though.

It was the way she asked the questions that made her seem like a bad choice to adopt anyone.

Then, there was that cake... I've never seen anyone so gleeful to hurt another person. And the thing with these women that makes it hard for me to keep straight who is who is that the hair changes on a whim. From curly to straight, to those outrageous huge weaves.

Dedra has no concept of self awareness. And Lakenya is such a pawn and has no spine to stand up for herself with Dedra. Dedra was even rude at the business meeting and LaKenya didn't say anything about it. It's obv that she gave the address of the party to dickhead Dedra. Taking a mugshot sheet cake to a party that you weren't invited to? Tacky.

Good thing it was a small party...even though it was her closest friends I still felt sorry for Maja. That explanation was long winded but they didn't let her finish so I didn't get the full gist of it. Maybe next week. I thought it was going to be something about her husband, but it was about her shifty, shady employees. Maja really needs to hire a good HR specialist and do background checks on all her employees. Enough already! It's probably the same person that is stealing from her...lol.

Funny about the phone convo where Maja was complaining about Beautii's ad. I did not like Mushiya's flat weave. She looks better with natural hair. I have natural hair and I've always wanted to rock natural weaves as well. She has cornered a niche market and it does have a high earning potential. She didn't need to go off on LaKenya but I understood why she did. I liked that she apologized right then and there.

I just watched this mess.  I'm sitting here trying to figure out who is still going into business with them, since they are all so damn unprofessional.  It's not even like they do this shit amongst themselves.  They do it at industry events...with absolutely no shame.  As my grandmother likes to say, "dem shame box mash up!"

The one who owns the 5-minute weaves, how has she not informed any of her investors that she's closing stores?

I love Mushiya's plan for rolling out her weave line by not only finding people to sell the hair, but also first ensuring that they all know how to use and apply the hair properly.  I also thought Lakenya looked good with her new hair.  Too bad she got bullied for it by that vile Maja and her lapdog Beautii.  Speaking of vile....Diedra and her new friends are horrendous.  I can't imagine being around them.  They must exude some really awful vibes/auras everywhere they go.

Mushiya's attitude and delivery leave much to be desired, but she does seem to know her way around natural hair. If the only way you know how to style natural hair is to straighten it, you can't do natural hair. I once had my head jacked up by a woman who swore she could trim my hair without heat (I told her I didn't want her to use heat when she plugged in the flat iron - in retrospect, I should have left) and she ... could not. It can be very hard to find natural stylists, particularly if you don't have locs.

Maja is the one who strikes me as the fakest - she seems to put on airs. You can see some of those affectations drop when she gets really angry. Her talking heads are really cultivated though.

Tonight's episode was too much. Pat and Dedra arriving to the  luncheon in a hearse and passing out expose brochures about Maja's businesses (or whatever it was she had printed up) made no sense. The same goes for  Mushiya's disruption of  the homecoming parade and Beautii's event last week.

They need to show more hairstyles and satisfied clients in their salons than so much of this drama.

Dedra's salon is always empty. I know reality shows aren't real and I certainly would not sign a release form to have my face shown while I was getting my hair done, but it makes it look as though all she does is sit around waiting for people to come in and gossip with her.

This show is about to be permanently deleted from my DVR.  I enjoyed the 1st season because it seemed like it was about doing hair.  We saw the occasional client.  Dont get me wrong I dont expect my reality shows to not be contrived but the hearse was a jump the shark moment for me.  I'll give it one more episode and then.....delete.

I feel the same way.  They are just doing waaaaaay too much.  A couple of them are doing it for TV, like Mushiya and Beautii.  But the rest, I think that's just how they are - nasty and demented people.  At least with Mushiya, Beautii, and the other one who keeps following behind Maja like a dog that doesn't know any better after being repeatedly kicked, they actually seem like decent, if not a bit dim (Mushiya excluded) people.  The rest of those fuckers (Maja, Diedra, Pam/Pat?, Diedra's new desperate male friend) can go kick rocks.

So....I'm not sure if my Google is biased but Runway Curls has so much more press and online presence than Pretty Hair. Their websites in comparison are also very distinct. Mushiya seems a bit wacky at times, but something she is doing is working...way more than Maja Sly, Beauti or any of the other side chicks. She has built a brand and an online presence....she has tapped into a market that has huge potential.
