So much hate for Goodbye Stranger I see. Just wondering why?

I'll make my plea now. So much goodness here. Dean is killed repeatedly by Cas to freak us out at the beginning. Poor Cas. Dean then talks Cas down from actually killing him. Naomi is being the worst. And the closing scene features Cas on a bus whilst they play Supertramp. And whilst I didn't like Meg being killed, I thought she had a good exit.

I pretty much can't stand the Great Escapist because we meet Metatron who I hated from the moment I laid eyes on him. Bah!

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me, it's not about hate.  I have to down vote episodes and it's not the best of the season for me.  I'm not sure what the "best" is, but I know what my favorite is, so I'm up voting it.

Eh, except for the top two, the rest of the episodes are pretty even to me. I don't love 'em, really have little interest in them one way or another. I don't hate Goodbye Stranger, but I find it like most of S8--mostly meh.

I think I liked having some Sam point of view I kind of liked, and I thought Jared played it well even if we did get stuck with Metatron - though for a while there I did love to hate him. I don't mind "Goodbye Stranger" either, except for that I agree with whoever it was who said there were like 345,000 other things Sam and Meg should/could have been talking about, but of course they had to bring up stupid Amelia again instead of giving them something meaty or interesting to discuss. Because of course Sam was still lamenting that "normal life" he couldn't have and the fact that that didn't even make sense in the first place I guess didn't mean that somehow it couldn't make sense now, right?. *le sigh* But since you asked so nicely (and I have :: Clem (from Buffy) voice :: "issues" with "As Time Goes By")...

***There's plenty I like! The creepy town model with all those bags of dirt, the lady with the hair curlers, some things about Meg.

 

But Meg was too soft for my taste, there was too much angel stuff (I will never care about angels, not even about Cas, sorry. I've tried), and I'm a softie so I didn't actually like seeing Cas stabbing Dean to death and then seeing the warehouse littered with stabbed-to-death Deans, even though it was fake.

 

They really have no worries about making Cas look bad or do bad things, do they? I wonder if they keep trying to turn fans against him with all this stuff (making him evil!God, ManchurianCandidate!Cas, a Grace Vampire, etc etc etc), and are frustrated that it seems to have been to no avail. Even I don't hate him and I don't care at all about him.

Well I liked LARP and I guess that's what happens when you miss a day.  I liked the end moment when Dean is sure that Sam won't let him play and instead Sam agrees and surprises Dean by saying "I think it will be good for both of us."  Dean of course acts like he doesn't really want to but will do it since Sam declares it would be good for them both. 

 

I liked some of the bits and it was fun.  Plus I really like stuff that deals with medieval stuff.  LOL>

 

As Time Goes By, I liked Henry.  Is there some issues, sure but I understood Dean being upset to learn that Henry felt the job was more important than family and Dean would never choose family over the job.  Even though John basically did the same thing, I think it really hits Dean in the face. 

 

Do I agree with where they ended up, NO, but alas my vote couldn't save them. 

 

I'm really clear that my votes of the best for this season doesn't agree with what has happened.  But hopefully I will agree more in season 9.

Hey, just had an idea:  when the survival game is over for S10, how would you guys feel about doing a game with the writers instead of the episodes? Either divided up by season, or not. Or is that weird? A close friend is into fantasy football (won her league again this season!) and I'm thinking of it in the context of that sort of thing.

I was actually kind of hoping we could so a "best of" round once we got through the seasons -- pitting the top-voted episodes from each season's round against each other for an "ultimate winner" sort-of thing.

My thoughts on the next rounds....  Season 10 won't have finished all it's eps before we finish season 9, which will be starting in the next couple of days.  My suggestion, therefore, is once we're done 9, we do writers, directors, guest stars, etc until season 10 finishes broadcasting, then do season 10, then do a battle combining the last surviving five eps from each season's game for the epic showdown for the Supernatural soul survivor.

In memorializing What's Up, Tiger Mommy?, all I can really say is Mrs. Tran was one of their better characters, but she never would have been in jeopardy if Kevin had just left her alone, like Dean told him to.  Goodbye Stranger was one of the few Season 8 eps which didn't suck, and had one of the most jaw dropping opening scenes of the series, with Killer Castiel the warehouse full of Dead Deans.  Misha and Jensen absolutely killed it in the scene where mindfucked Castiel beats Dean to a bloody pulp and then....stops.

Well, in my defense I did try to help you save "Goodbye Stranger" for a bit longer - so it even gets to be in the super duper fight (since it's in the top 5 episodes)... so try not to want to kill me too much for what I'm about to do now. I kinda like "Pac Man Fever" though too (I've been consistently throwing votes its way), but it'll get enough love from those voting after me...

But...I LIKE The Great Escapist! (I'm just moving the game along). And Edlund apologized for the Grand Canyon screw-up.  So, bygones.  I was more distracted by the Jake Gyllenhall Angel.  OTOH, I loved how clever Cas was with the Biggerson's gambit.  And Kevin being a BadAss in the face of death.  But my favorite part was some of the stuff delirious Sammy said.  Not everyone loves whacked-out Sam but I do.  For me, these are the moments when an unguarded Sam just lets it rip (I mean his opinions, apparently the gas is a constant issue...from Jared).  I COMPLETELY bought that Sam never felt clean enough to be the hero. I loved that he felt he was having the demon taint burnt out of him.  I hope it actually was (burnt out of him, that is).  I'm also a fan of Robert Duncan McNeill (as an actor and a director). This episode was sooooo Robbie.  I liked Sam saying "W-We're the freakin' Winchesters!" and getting pissed at Metatron for sticking his head in the sand. And finally, I like that at least this ONE time, Metatron brought up that it was TFW's choice to do the trials but had they thought through all the consequence?  I still, to this day, think closing the gates may not have been a good idea.  So, I like that it was brought up and something to consider.

Well no tie this round.  I'll give hunter one last upvote for the idea of cartoons. 

 

Sobs, Sniff I couldn't save you Pac Man...lol on one hand I laugh because it was the first game I played, not great I never really got into the video game.  But the hug with Dean & Charlie...Lucky girl!  I know there is so much more to say but too choked up right now to give a proper goodbye. 

 

I don't know how to do gif's but maybe @Catrox 14 can find the perfect one.

 

@Sue B I too Love Robbie McNeil and think he is a strong director which got his training ground on Voyager.  I wished he had continued acting but alas he went behind the camera.  Jensen's story of how he got into directing is very similar.
